No I thought he wanted .035 so I sent that. I didn't notice he wanted .35 so I asked for him to send it back. It's 1:30 in texas so I guess he went to bed. I'll update in the morning
hmm atleast your error made to send him less btc Cheesy  lets see if it returns to you

Roll Eyes Hopefully he didn't get scammed. Why would he even lend that guy any money, anyway? He won't even come on the thread.

That's fairly simple. Looking through his post history its clear he is a contributing forum member and trying his hand at becoming a miner. He had tons of posts trying to help people. An ebay account for raptor2213 had a 98% rating w/ one bad feedback about a 3$ item and most of the volume was for mining equipment. I'm brand new to the bitcoin community but I am from the online poker community and one thing I've learned is that a man's reputation is all you have online and it's worth a damn more than 20$. If you weed out a rat for 20 bucks you got a big win lol. Anyway this is terrible all around since my mistake ended up derailing his loan request and obv I feel bad but I'd eat my own shirt if barring his account getting hacked he really did scam me.

He was trying to scam $220, but you sent him $22 and his greed overcame him, he grabbed it and ran.
jk, but it doesn't look good at all. ebay rating means nothing, and also, reputation is considered, but reputation on Bitcointalk.

I disagree with that/  Ebay rating DOES mean something IMO when it comes to trading here, or at least for me.  It gives you a bit more hope that it's legit.  But then again, I wouldn't take any "accounts' reputations" as collateral.

We don't know that he was scamming, but it does seem suspicious.

A wide range of ebay rating means something. If there's only a few trades recently, it means nothing, since he could've sold his account, or he could've been hacked. He only has 4 trades in the past month, which is very little compared to a few years back.
1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted Public Key/Double Encrypted Private Key on: June 07, 2014, 04:37:36 PM
Scenario:
Mercenaries break into your house and force you to hand over your paper wallets. Easy for them to see how much you have simply by looking at the bitcoin address. From there they only have to torture you to obtain your BIP38 passphrase and sweep the funds.

Solution:

A) Encrypted Public Key. Thieves will have no way of knowing how much BTC is stored at any given address.

B) Encrypted Private Key with two possible outcomes for plausible deniability. One password reveals a small amount of BTC, enough to satisfy your attackers. Another password reveals a different private key where you have stored the majority of your funds. Is this possible?

You can simply make a paper wallet that doesn't contain the address, so your "attackers" don't know how much you have, and you say that you were about to buy some btc to put in there.
Private keys can only generate 1 bitcoin address, and if you try and decrypt it with an incorrect passphrase it would be very noticeable. You'd have to come up with a new encryption method for what you suggested.

1605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pre-existing SHA256 hardware project? on: June 07, 2014, 03:48:20 PM
Why not research Curecoin it is very intriguing. Not so much the sha 256 stuff but the paid folding for medical research. Rumour has it the pay isn't bad at all. Hence why nobody is talking about it much probably Smiley

Steve

I love the idea behind curecoin, and I think it's a great crypto, but it's not that innovative in regards to its algorithm. SHA256 has been around for a while. Since we were on the topic of pre-existing ASIC mining hardware, I was wondering if Structured ASIC's are still in use?

I doubt that asics are developed just to encrypt data.
I don't understand curecoin. How the heck does the protein folding thing even work?

I would like to buy BTC value of 80 EUR. How much do I get for it?

Use preev.com to calculate, and open a new thread if you want to buy.
1607  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan 0.017BTC on: June 07, 2014, 03:23:47 PM
Purpose: I'm going to buy a 10$ Gift card for iTunes of a friend.
Amount Needed: 0.017 BTC
Paying Back: 0.025 BTC
BTC Address: 1Xuk66KAyQSovJ8pLVfFxwaxomqZ8D8pi
Repayment Time: At max 24 hours.
Assurance of me paying back as borrower: You can add me on Facebook if you want to.

I posted this on another thread, but don't have any success so far.

I don't have any collateral. But i'm willing to let the lender add me on Facebook

Well it is obviously for a friend, that friend will probably default the loan FOR you... oh well, not your fault Roll Eyes
Right, because your facebook is just so important. Tongue

Maybe your Facebook is important for you, but we can't know if it's a real facebook lr no...
Hi,
I have at least 5 facebook accounts which has at least 500 friends also several with 3000-5000 friends. This cannot be a collateral i can block you any minute i want.
BR

That's not the point, the point is that collateral is something of equal or more value that can be sold easily, in case the borrower defaults the loan. Facebooks account might be worth something to you, but they cannot be sold, so it's not collateral.
1608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to exploit the different prices for BTC on different exchanges? on: June 07, 2014, 12:03:59 PM
I don't know much about this, but I always figured the fees to withdaw and deposit and the entie process etc etc sort of evens out.
otheriwse everyone would do it... err right lol ??

Not really, fees don't even out, for example, at ANXPRO our fees are as low as 0.05%, so you could take advantage of that.
It just requires a lot of money to make a small profit. If you try and arbitrage with like 0.001BTC, you wouldn't make much.
1609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what btc exchange on: June 07, 2014, 12:31:58 AM
I suggest ANXPRO. We are based in Hong Kong, we have direct Hong Kong and Australian Banking, and also SEPA deposits and withdrawals. Our fees are as low as 0.05%, and no verification is needed for trading.
1610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pre-existing SHA256 hardware project? on: June 07, 2014, 12:22:15 AM
Hmm...what about SHA-3? I know there isn't a specific SHA3 algo, but I feel like a company or some business might have implemented SHA3. And even if no security encryption hardware exists for it, I'm pretty sure other algo ASIC's already exist, SHA variants possibly? It's worth a shot  Tongue

if you want to use pre existing hardware to mine. May I suggest almost any amd graphics cards and I suggest you mine x11 or x13 for now at least. Also nvidia 750ti is also a good choice ( or even better) if you want to mine x11 and x13. Hope this was a bit more helpfull.

Steve

I'm also aware of the presence of GPU's although I feel that X11, despite its security, feels like Quark. Just another chain-hash algo. I've got a bit of hope that pre-existing ASIC's are out there with the possibility for mining although I'm aware chances are slim.

As I said, it's pretty much the same. There is an algo for SHA-3, called Keccack or something, but I've seen like only 2 coins that use it.
x11 is supposed to be innovative because its 11 algos, but darkcoin is a scam anyway.
1611  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why bitcoin is going nowhere on: June 07, 2014, 12:18:33 AM
well you can always go to https://localbitcoins.com/instant-bitcoins/
And select the city you live in, and maybe there are people near your area who you can meet to buy bitcoins.
Or you open your own australian exhange, to sell people bitcoins easier then the other websites in your country!

Lets say if i were to open an exchange in a country where bitcoins were not available easily.
What would i require for that ?

Regards

Duke

You would need a huge budget, to employ people, educate them about bitcoin and then make them learn what to do.
Seriously, you're much better off using an existing exchange.
1612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pre-existing SHA256 hardware project? on: June 07, 2014, 12:07:59 AM
Is there any other cryptographic encryption hardware that might be profitable but uses a different algo besides SHA256?

Maybe some scrypt ASICs from GAWMiners?

Well, the goal of the "project" is to use already existing cryptographic encryption hardware. Some computers and devices have SHA256 ASIC's already installed for security purposes. It was within my interest to see if they were capable of being utilized for mining. Now that I see it is probably unprofitable, I was wondering if there were other encryption ASIC's that used a different algo that some other cryptocurrency already uses and see if it was more profitable. I am however, familiar with GAWminers and I've always wanted to buy a Scrypt miner although I'm tight on money  Wink. I'm waiting for the day dirt-cheap USB miners become a reality  Tongue

As far as I know, a simple CPU can hash a simple piece of data into an SHA256 hash. scrypt and x11 and scrypt-n and all that never existed before cryptocurrencies, so there probably isn't any.
1613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to exploit the different prices for BTC on different exchanges? on: June 07, 2014, 12:02:15 AM
Feel free to use our ANXPRO platform for arbitrage today, our price is currently a bit higher than Bitstamp, and we charge fees as low as 0.05%, and we also support SEPA withdrawals.

Thanks for telling me about anxpro, byt411. Love the UI, looks a lot better then some of the other exchanges I've seen. I'll keep Anxpro at the back of my mind, as of now, I'm looking at some other altcoins to arbitrage.

Our Platform supports many fiat currencies and a few cryptocurrencies, so you might want to check that out! Wink

Ok, so I want some bitcoin in Australia.

What are my choices? I can meet the local drug dealers on the corner and do a shady deal, or I can provide detailed personal information to some unknown company. I have a credit card account and I can buy $1000 products online anywhere in the world, but I can't buy bitcoin.

Here is the registration questionnaire (https://anxbtc.com/#setting_verification) for ANXBTC bitcoin exchange before I can purchase bitcoin:

Admittedly, that questionnaire is ridiculous, but there are quite a few other options for you as people have pointed out in this thread. Personally , I wouldn't give that company my business after seeing what information they require. I know that they are just attempting to cover their ass legally speaking, but I still find a company asking that much of a single person offensive.

Hello, ANX here. May I ask how is our questionnaire ridiculous? They are simple questions. BitStamp will suddenly freeze your funds and require you to complete a longer questionnaire, including how you got your bitcoins and why you are selling them for fiat, or vice-versa.
We'd love to hear your feedback.
1617  Economy / Lending / Re: need loan of about .5btc - i have collateral. on: June 06, 2014, 11:16:06 PM
right, i understand that the value has gone up. i only need 300$ worth. a little less than .5BTC

it was my understand that its easier to trade money packs, if they were paid with cash for BTC than adding the mp to my paypal as people don't like trading paypal for BTC. i have exceeded my virwox limits for the month and i thought it would be easy for me to get btc with mp. i was hoping someone would trade, but in the trading section i haven't been getting any messages other than scammers.

Before trying for a loan, look for traders that accept MoneyPaks, there's quite a few.
If you don't get anything, then come here. Don't really think that anyone will loan though, it's been a while since I saw a big loan.
1618  Other / Meta / Re: Securing my forum account on: June 06, 2014, 05:28:36 PM
Add it to your signature and the bitcoin address section. Even if the hacker changes it, theymos can check.
1619  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: June 06, 2014, 05:25:42 PM
is it possible to take profit with buy in btc-e and send it to bitstamp?
there's $10 price difference
It takes time for withdraws and deposits to confirm, so not really. Unless you try with a large amount of money, you won't profit.

90% LTC profitability? Can anyone explain why one should stay with this pool and not straight mine LTC currently? No flaming, thanks!

Variance. I will not repeat this again.
