1661  Economy / Economics / Re: Is NOW the best time to buy or enter in bitcoin? on: September 22, 2017, 07:55:09 PM
It's always a bad and good time to get in.

Have some spare cash? (yep thats money lying around and won't be missed in the next 10 years) Welcome to the club!!
You could ease in by buying a small bit every week or day to get an average price.

However Bitcoin should be seen like a lottery ticket. Don't expect returns, just sit back en enjoy the ride Cheesy

1662  Economy / Speculation / Re: What was the reason behind Bitcoin bear market of 2014-2015? on: September 21, 2017, 12:32:01 PM
Psychological barriers (It cant be worth more than gold)
Too much growth (Bubble-fear)
Political uncertainty (China ban)
Technology untested/untrusted (How does it work.. what if hard fork...)
Big whales (Pump&dumps)

and mostly

People got burnt and wanted out!

1663  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to hit the $30.000 mark before 2020 on: September 20, 2017, 10:06:40 PM
Let's circle jerk ourselves billionaires in threads like this Grin

$1M/BTC in 2030 !!!!
1664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Short term investment on: September 20, 2017, 05:05:30 PM
If you go short term (done it myself) here are some tips/warnings.

NEVER USE A STOP LOSS
You see the dumps-out-of-nowhere, yep every once in a while you will get caught by it.
This is called a stop-out if I am not mistaken.

WATCH OUT WITH LEVERAGE AND GOING SHORT
You think you can go lower but you suddenly end up with a market order execution and no money.
Can also be caused by a dump-out-of-nowhere.

CHECK YOUR RATES
Putting in a buy or sell order costs money and you get a crappy rate.
Short term you will have a hard time to get it back.
Never use market orders even if you want to get on the train Smiley If the orderbook is thin you might end up paying 5% more.

MULTI-CULTURE, VOLATILITY, RULES
Bitcoin is traded in many countries 24x7. This means that traditional trading doesn't apply. You can get hit hard at night. Stock never closes.
Analysis is hard if it is volatile, you have no good indicators. Any whale can kill you in a heartbeat.
There is no one that will prevent a whale from pumping and dumping. It is not regulated whatsoever.

AND BUY LOW SELL HIGH  Cool Roll Eyes

I ended up thinking ... Why risk my shit short term .... HODL makes me sleep better at night.
1665  Economy / Speculation / Re: How do you guys think the November Split will affect price? on: September 20, 2017, 04:55:45 PM
I think that the forks will only show that Bitcoin can survive anything.
Having my own keys in hand I don't care ... more splits = more cash.

Splits do make Bitcoin more problematic. It's like being in a maze not knowing what is what and which to follow.

Splits/forks should be kept to an absolute minimum to protect the image of Bitcoin and make it easier on people.

I get the feeling that some people are going to try and create splits so they can sell the split and buy back bitcoin for it.
This is just like the shitcoin pump&dump get-rich schemes.
1666  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin vs Mortgage on: September 20, 2017, 04:48:44 PM
My initial investment was $25,000 for 100BTC, so if BTC plummets to $500, I'm out. Conversely, if BTC hits $10,000 I'm paying off my mortgage with 5BTC and HODLing the rest. Again, thanks for the info, guys!

The correct answer for your personal situation depends heavily on your jurisdiction
and especially the terms of your mortgage provider. There may be obstacles that
you currently donīt see at all, like penalties for early repayment of your outstanding mortgage
or other legal issues.

In my country there are several mortgage providers where you arenīt allowed to
repay your mortgage before completion of a fixed time-length.

Where I come from there are also penalties on early repayment unless you pay off the full sum and terminate the mortgage all together.
But yes having a financial expert look into your specific situation is advisable.
1667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin vs Mortgage on: September 19, 2017, 10:43:24 PM
Three options + 1 bonus option

The Safe Path
Pay off now and be done with it.

The HODL Path
Wait until 2020 and pay off the mortgage (chance BTC will be lower).

The Phase out path (RECOMMENDED)
Every month pay off the mortgage with a fixed amount of BTC (let's say 0.2BTC) until finished.
Recommended because you get an average sell rate. BTC is generally on the rise.

The YOLO Path
Wait until 2040 or later and buy the whole friggin' bank and crash a few Veyrons for fun while you're at it.  Cool (or end up a bum under a bridge telling old stories about owning BTC)
1668  Economy / Speculation / Re: But if China gov say mining is illegal, we are fucked. Haipo Yang‏ ViaBTC CEO on: September 19, 2017, 10:36:31 PM
Blah, blah, blah chinise miners mafia cry,Japanise miners are coming, one of his mining company has 90mln budget,Russia is going to launch his.Thay will have hash from nuclear plant,There is Australia with his solar energy,we dont need you China and you know about it,so stop to scream

Lol you're so right .... so much FUD Cheesy
1669  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think about the future of bitcoin? on: September 19, 2017, 10:31:42 PM
China just want's to keep monetary stability and is pushing on the brake... (for now)
US is basically doing the same.

All those new ICO and ICO scams are financially disrupting countries and peoples lives. The scams need to stop.
People are hitting on Bitcoin like it's a casino ... all or nothing.... It's not healthy investing!

For now countries are just protecting their economy which is basically a good thing.

Give it time and crypto will get it's place in the economy ....

1670  Economy / Speculation / Re: LOWEST PRICE BITCOIN WILL GET TO on: September 19, 2017, 10:21:01 PM
Looking at the Bollinger Bands on the 1w charts we cannot go below $1400
We are only half way to  the median so no panic yet.
Looking at Bitcoin history we have only hit the lower Bollinger Band 3 times or so.

My guess is that the BB median could get tested again which is now $3000.

So $3000 is the lowest for now.
If we pass that point we could hit a lowest point at $1400
1671  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to hit the $30.000 mark before 2020 on: September 19, 2017, 03:47:24 PM
I always have a hard time with people entering this forum and launching a topic on their first post with these kinds of statements and no backing.

It's feels so much like a religious statement "I'm here to help you all ... GOD told me personally that <xxxx> .... and I'm here to tell you the good news."

Anyway I'll take the 30k in 2020 with pleasure ... Tongue
1672  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin without China on: September 19, 2017, 03:38:10 PM
There is so many people involved in  bitcoin from China that it has been reflected on bitcoin price directly. So my answer is Yes on the pol.

And there are so many people manipulating bitcoin from China, that is a good thing they are "controlled" at this time.

There are hundreds of countries, billions of people outside China, so my answer is no.

This. We've been plagued with "China bans bitcoin" stories since 2014. It will be lovely when the ban finally comes into effect and the world can move on!

+1

To everyone here...

IMO China will never ban or allow Bitcoin. They will keep a low profile and stop the Chinese economy getting burnt on this volatile "currency" by regulating it.
They cannot stop it but directly allowing it is not a good thing either. Bitcoin needs time to blend in to the economy without hurting it. THAT is what they are doing in my opnion.

Why are the exchanges shutting down? Is it a ban? ..... exactly you have no clue ... then stop the FUD or post the evidence

There are many more plausible reasons why those exchanges could be shutting down
I also have no clue but can think of many non-ban reasons

1. Haven't registered themselves correctly as a financial institution
2. Don't adhere to rules and regulations for financial institutions within China
3. Not profitable or they cannot pay their taxes
4. Tax evasion or other criminal reasons to shut down a company
5. No good auditing in place so their business must stop
6. Insurance requirements?
7. etc.

Remember: Bitcoin is transitioning from a novelty to a real currency ....
1673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Short term investment on: September 16, 2017, 05:45:30 PM
If China supports bitcoin them it will negatively impact their economy so they will never say that.
1674  Economy / Speculation / Re: This was inevitable - But BTC's future still bright on: September 14, 2017, 10:00:31 PM
As Wham sang....

I should have known better than to sell dem coins
And waste a chance that I'd been given
So I'm never gonna sell again
The way I sold to you!!
1675  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: September 14, 2017, 09:57:11 PM
I caught a falling knife and made 0.1 btc (not much) lol

Anyway I am holding as well  Smiley

Some knives fly up .... trust me Bitcoin doesn't obey gravity

Therefore HODL!!!
1676  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and altcoin to fall further? on: September 14, 2017, 09:53:21 PM
I read that the dump is due to a chinese exchange closing it's doors.
The FUD spread is that the government is stopping Bitcoin again.

We have seen this before.... Chinese sell... weak hands sell.... price dumps .... recovery comes eventually .... Bitcoin lives to see another ATH

You're right, and I think a lot of people are so concerned with the drops because they came in when Bitcoin was at a high. They maybe purchased at 4,000 and so to them, seeing a 25% drop in their investment in hours is very scary. For the long term holders, there is more experience with this type of situation.

What we are seeing is the same effect as a fire at a festival .... people run for the door killing each other....other people see people running and follow even though they have no clue why they are running..... people die due to hysteria not due to the actual threat....

We are the guys remaining and drinking the free beers at the end Tongue

That said I don't blame the chinaman from protecting his assets ... China can be quite a controlling and unpredictable country (for us to understand)....
1677  Economy / Speculation / Re: End of bubble, recovery impossible. on: September 14, 2017, 09:46:56 PM
Forget about all the other times I was wrong. This time... this time it's for sure.  Cheesy

I cannot understand for what you have said as sure. Will it recover back in value or price will decline to lowest value. I expect bitcoin should recover with in a week of time. I have some money for personal commitment. If this runs like this badly I cannot able to manage the situation also. Exactly bitcoin price is started falling when the time 00.01 UTC. We need to identify the cause of this.

Look at the post history of kwukduck for the punchline.  Wink

A broken clock is right twice a day, remember that! ...

Then I guess this proves Duck is not a clock. He has been predicting the imminent desth of bitcoin for years and has yet to be right once. Much less twice a day.

Actually, the analogy seems good here. A broken clock is only accurate for 2 minutes every 24 hours (or once every 720 minutes). I'm guessing kwukduck hasn't made 720 price predictions in his time on Bitcointalk, so he might actually be more accurate than a broken clock. Tongue

Holding out some hope that the long term top hasn't been established. But this is very ugly. China ban + dumping right through the last flag/consolidation? That's brutal. Many new bagholders were just created. Undecided

To sound Matrixy "There is no China Bitcoin ban"

As far as I know ...
- There are other Chinese exchanges still operating (Huobi and OKCoin).
- There has not been any official statement towards Bitcoin being banned.
- We have seen this before ... FUD FUD FUD

1679  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN = TULIP BULB MANIA? on: August 20, 2017, 12:06:55 AM
THIS THREAD AGAIN!!! Cry Cry

Tulip mania was one bubble and crash in a few months. (Nov. 1636 - May 1637)

Bitcoin has proven to withstand multiple bubbles and dips.
Initially people had a point with the comparison but that is no longer the case.

So the answer is NO
1680  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin cash become the true bitcoin ? on: August 20, 2017, 12:00:38 AM
Who cares ... The fork gave me both  Cool

Bitcoin still has the VHS vs Betamax edge .... all bad shit is still done through Bitcoin
