Hi this is my first post, i've been watchin this forum for a while and started trading alts, mainly digibyte. I have a question i cant find an answer anywhere just hope someone can clear it up. Is the price of an altcoin affected by the price of bitcoin? Or is it like pegged to bitcoin?

At the moment the only way to buy most alt coins is using bitcoins, so yes the real world dollar/pound/euro value is related directly to the price of bitcoin.

Not much activity yet. Why, nobody interested?

Seems ico isnt running hard as well. Its finished the 25th right?

I will see what happens during last day of ico and follow this topic. Idea does sounds interesting to me..

ICOs put people off because there have been so many scam ICOs. It might be more successful with a different distribution method.
what other distribution model do you have in mind?

I think using Bittrex as a place to have an ICO is a mistake - the fact that they allow people to make underpriced bids (when it is a fixed price ICO) just looks unprofessional.

Also Bittrex and other exchanges were the place that most of the scam coins/abandonware ICOs occurred and it's hard to dissociate from that taint.

Block trust or a custom website would have been better for credibility.

You could also have gone round attending conferences for a year talking about SMAC before allowing people to buy anything.  Seems that that is the way to get people to fund an ICO.

Ok, devil's advocate here, it won't work. Paid email has been suggested and, in some cases, tried since the Internet was the ARPANET. One immediate problem is users. 25 years ago, there weren't many choices available to communicate online and maybe, just maybe you could have gotten away with it then but as the Internet has grown and communications technology in general has exploded, there are hundreds of ways to communicate for free, or for the illusion of free (texting from phones) that a paid email service would struggle to survive.

I see you all saying how you would welcome it but, think about the logistics involved. How would charges be collected? What email program is capable and what software companies are willing to take on the challange of adding the infrastructure to their software? What happens if Digibyte is used and it's value raises because of it? Competiton would be enormous at first but as soon as someone (Microsoft?) decides free email is better and offers a competing service, we are back to square one.

I run an IT division and we have several spam filters that do a great job of keeping the junk out. Now, consider this, of the 20,000 or so email they process daily, only about 300 to 500 are legitimate! Pretty sad huh? So when you base your argument that the system would help DBG is that really true? Spammers are not going to pay anything, they will find a new way or jump in some loop hole or another to get around it. A couple percent of todays Email worldwide is real, how much money will be changing hands? Factor into this the number of people who will no longer use Email and what do you have left? What kind of volume for the coin associated with it?

Also consider public computers, school computers etc. Are these institutions going to pay for others to use email on their systems? Not likely. Anyway, perhaps, just perhaps, a private email system that people could join MIGHT work but, is the value great enough to entice someone to pay for something that has, and for the most part, always will be free?

Arguments?

I don't think you understand the concept as your arguments seem to completely miss the point.

It would be a bespoke email client.  Nobody is suggesting trying to retrofit this to gmail etc.

The people that understand and value such a service will pay.  There is no guarantee it will be a success but it is a good idea.  I would use it and suspect there are plenty of other people like me.  It might not completely replace regular email but if enough people adopt it then it doesn't really matter.

It provides a solution to a problem and is a perfect use for a micro currency.  BOTH things that are relevant to DGB.
1784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMAC - Social Media Advertising, Digital Asset, Crowdfunding NOW live! on: February 21, 2015, 05:53:06 PM
These things are always a gamble.  SMAC will probably fail as pretty much everything in crypto does.

Anyone who thinks of buying cryptos as anything other than a form of gambling is deluding themselves.

There is a tiny minuscule possibility that some crypto endeavour somewhere will succeed and SMAC seems to have a slightly higher possibility than your average shitcoin because it has a slightly different idea for building value/utility and a real team behind it.  I still hate the name though.

I trust that Boxxa would not involve himself in any scam and have no doubt that this is a genuine attempt at building something new.  It will probably still fail but I will hope for a positive outcome.

I would rather invest in this (for ethical reasons) than investing in the latest P&D schemes where the only way to make money is by ripping off more gullible and inexperienced buyers with insane ideas for growth - essentially the modified Ponzi scheme that 99% of projects since the end of 2013 have been.

So in summary:

Buy this:
- If you like to gamble and have the balls to accept its probable failure
- You like the idea
- You like to invest in reputable people (not 12 year olds looking to buy a new IPAD with their ill gotten gains)
- You don't enjoy feeding off the gullible
- To stick two fingers (yes 2 because I do it UK style) up to the MegaCorp Coins like Ripple that are designed purely to enrich those who are already privileged and their bottom feeding pets

Don't Buy This:
- If you got into a silly playground argument with one of the developers over your own coin and now want playground revenge
- You don't like gambling (- Why the hell are you in crypto?)
- You lost your balls in a previous gambling accident
- You really believe this will make you rich and want to invest your life savings, university/retirement funds, food for money or anything else that is really important
- You have one of those beards without a moustache (- that's not a beard that's a fake shell of annoyingness - a FEARD)

Interesting post (here : http://wp.me/p1Xmbd-S0 ) on someone creating a paid email system as a means of dealing with spam.

Even tiny payments would basically make spamming unfeasibly expensive and a micro-currency like DGB would be perfect for this.  I agree with the writer that this could be one potential "killer-app" for any cryptocurrency and would strongly urge the DGB team to look into this ASAP.

DGB has a powerful advantage over BTC in this respect as whole coin payments are much easier for people to deal with than decimals.

One way to do this would be to create a standalone or online DGB email client which charges a variable amount depending on the number of recipients of an email (according to the market price this could be adjusted from time to time), perhaps starting with 1 DGB per recipient.

This would be paid by the sender.

Just as important it should also be possible to add extra features that make use of the blockchain such as consensus timestamps and even notary type services to take this beyond just being an email client that charges.  The sending fees could be used to pay for further development of the DGB mail client to add these features.

I for one would love a means of sending email where I don't have to face the daily deluge of crap that seems to elude my spam filters.  For people with the right skills putting this together should be fairly simple and straightforward.

I would love to hear other's opinions on this and hope that the DGB team can look into this.  Somebody will implement this correctly and whoever does will have a substantial advantage in taking their cryptocurrency forward.

(Just to add: This could also open up a new way for people to create paid newsletters (I know they already exist bust this could streamline it) where transactions could occur in both directions, although it should be a basic principle that the sender should always pay at the point of sending to prevent anyone taking advantage of it for spamming purposes.)

Anyone mining DGB-Qubit on AMD cards? If so, what hashrates do you get, and do you notice instability in the hashrate - that is, it may go up or down by .25MH/s or .5MH/s, or even more?

Yes that seems to be quite normal.  I'm mining on a 260X just as an experiment and am getting between 4-5 MH/s.

What miner?

sph-sgminer : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475795.0

And you got between 4 and 5MH/s out of an R9 260X? Wut?

4.2MH/s right now although it still isn't really worth it.

Screenshot? You sure that's a 260X? This says a 290X gets only 6.2MH/s or so out of DGB-Qubit: http://digibytewiki.com/index.php/Mining_hardware_comparison

Yes I'm sure but I'm really not bothered if you believe me or not.  That's what I'm getting and I don't give a shit what some mining guide says.  Also I'm not taking a screenshot.  If you have a 260X try it yourself.

Sorry - I didn't mean to imply I think you're lying, I just assumed you were getting major amounts of HW errors or something.

I should apologise.  I just double checked - I'd been mining Digibyte-Groestle!  Re-configured for Qubit I only get about 1.2 MH/s.  Should wear my spectacles before I post!

1792  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bter Exchange Cold Wallet return to zero.... on: February 15, 2015, 06:41:25 PM

At least we know that the alts are in place therefore we should at least get those back.  Angry

That's not guaranteed.  It didn't happen with Mintpal - some people got their other coins back but many didn't.  For all we know the thieves may have access to other hot or "cold" wallets and just may be shifting the bitcoins first.  Or the people at BTER may be desperately selling what they have left in other wallets so they can get away with some money and start again (assuming it wasn't an inside job anyway).  Would be interesting to know how long they knew something was wrong.
1793  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bter Exchange Cold Wallet return to zero.... on: February 15, 2015, 06:36:34 PM

How the fuck can you lose 7000 bitcoins from a cold storage, and why on earth would you keep all the funds in 1 wallet ? who taught them to do security ?

Someone went in and stole the piece of paper with the private key for their cold storage on it:)

Might have to rethink getting Uno on Bter.
I just tried to log into Bter today and was greeted with this message.
They had that big NXT hack, the BAY controversy, now this.
---

7170 BTC got stolen from our cold wallet in this transaction:

720 BTC bounty for chasing it back.

All wallets have been shut down and withdrawals of the unaffected coins will be arranged later.

Yes BTER is dead now and it's not coming back.

Actually that doesn't make sense.  It's more logical to buy a coin when it's on the way down than on the way up (unless you have some kind of insider trading information).

I personally think DGB as a micro transaction currency is perfectly suited to new media like podcasts.

If anyone is a big podcast listener like me please tell the people who make your favourite podcasts about Digibyte and how useful it could be for them - even someone in tight financial circumstances might consider making a small micro donation.  I'm already doing this but if it's just me then it probably won't get very far.

One thing that would really help would be if the Digibytetipbot allowed tipping people before they had actually signed up with the service and informs them via a tweet if someone tips them (PinkCoinLottery which is essentially a tipbot too already allows this).

Another thing that would really help would be the ability to set up repeat payments for subscriptions etc. from within the wallet.  I'm surprised no other coin has implemented this yet and it would really give DGB a useful and practical advantage and not just for podcast subscriptions.

Also it might be useful to have specific guides for different use cases on the main website.  For example we could have a "Quick Start Guide for Podcasters" page detailing exactly how they could start getting payments/subscriptions in DGB quickly and with the least fuss.

I'm looking to buy some more in a few days so will be very glad if people can bring the price down further.  I'm holding for the long term so don't care what the current price is (as long as it stays low).  Thanks to all that have discussed Coinomi - I'll be donating 0.1 BTC (all I have in BTC right now) when I get a moment for DGB.  I'd urge everyone else to try to donate something too as it would be another big plus for DGB.

Hey Guys, new to this thread, used the forums for a bit, having a bit of trouble with my  UNO Sad((

I bought some on bittrex, opened my handy uno wallet, v0.9.5.0

created a new address , then sent my uno so my address all 7.8ish of them... bittrex gave me txid and i waiting , watching wallet.... and nothing.... did I just loose my uno stash?!!

TxId: dea85e0b0629ed82a6881e4a68f43feaddb1e411074fd67e203eeb951ae0615b

wallet ue9dWMFcmsHt6oXmXtzuKqTNK7HoBW1P8M

please help, Bryce or who ever. Thanks.

Check to see on Bittrex if the withdrawal was authorised or not.  Also double check the wallet address.  If the address is wrong and it's been authorised then you have lost your UNO.
