17901  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Low-Impact Mining? (10-20% CPU) on: June 25, 2011, 10:48:32 PM
Your idea, although interesting, is still bound by the principles of probability. Just because you have 1,000 cpus running at 2MH/s doesn't make it any more likely to produce a block with a set of rigs putting out the same 2,000 MH/s.

Probability is scalable into small increments as well as large portions of anything that's regarding chance.
17902  Other / Beginners & Help / Namecoin Mining Pool on: June 25, 2011, 10:43:26 PM
I just wanted to see how many people have even thought about mining namecoins.

The current difficulty is 55880 (up 3.5 times the last difficulty of 15000).

Currently it is not profitable to mine at this difficulty. It appears that the difficulty based on the 2016 block set for this difficulty period will not be met in the average period of 6 blocks per hour.

Blocks were being generated at like 10 to 15 an hour at difficulty 15000 now because it isn't profitable the blocks per hour have slowed to like 1.5 to maybe 2 per hour.

I will likely start a namecoin mining pool soon. Hopefully by then the difficulty has come down to a more reasonable level.

Anyone interested in joining once I start? Might not be for a couple of weeks though.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input.

Well if some don't care to adhere to the rules put in place you are always welcome to go to another forum and post your complaints.

Who would throw their laptop into the water if it wasn't broken?

Sell it to me for BTC!
17905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solo vs. Pooled Mining Network Traffic? on: June 25, 2011, 09:51:44 PM
I've been doing both solo and pooled mining and I have not noticed any significant difference in the bandwidth usage.

Seems to be negligible.
17906  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can you run the linux client in console only mode - i.e. no gui? on: June 25, 2011, 09:35:27 PM
If a GUI program for linux were to emerge it would make many bitcoin users more apt to want to move from mac/windows to linux/ubuntu.

I think we can all agree that whomever creates this will get quite a bit of donations.

DECENTRALIZED. Enough said.
17908  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make it 100 posts to get out of here. on: June 25, 2011, 09:32:55 PM
Yeah 75 would be a decent number. Anyone agree?

You are spot on. Simply put, make a copy/backup of your wallet file and store it on another medium (i.e. hard drive, flash drive, separate pc, etc.).
17910  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2x Radeon 6970s (guiminer settings) on: June 25, 2011, 09:30:14 PM
Anyone know how to unlock shaders of 6950s to get the same settings that of a 6970?

I've tried several online tutorials to no avail.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe we should continue to encourage people to use linux/ubuntu?

What exactly is "grandma style"?
17913  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 25, 2011, 08:40:36 PM
Hmm I can't see why someone who is new to the forum would need to be rushed into a particular status. That wouldn't seem fair.
17914  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started! on: June 25, 2011, 08:38:34 PM
I will be starting a namecoin mining pool in the next two weeks or so.

I will post the link in multiple forums once it is up and tested well.

Feel free to contact me to learn how to join the pool. Will be charging 1% of blocks generated to jump start the pool then we'll see where we go from there.

Anyways...just a heads up!

This was a good idea to go with. It shows who are legit users and who are the trolls.
