How about no one update their client nor restart it.

What will be the starting difficulty Jackie Chan?
17163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: September 7th - 10pm GMT on: August 31, 2011, 09:48:49 PM
Aaaah. A completely broken, non-functional block chain. Smiley

(No, not trolling, correcting. Blockchain requires a genesis block. So at least one block is pre-mined...)

Actually you can tell the genesis block to generate 0 coins.

Exactly a Genesis block with zero coins in it.

No, it won't be 'yet another'
Then generally what is "it" that we are talking about?

Yeah, unit tests, test suites, ... who needs that shit for a network handling $M of transactions daily? Just focus on adding features to the GUI! *facepalm*

lol

+1 Yeah looks matter much more than content.

$825 not including shipping? Huh
17170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 30, 2011, 06:52:27 AM
CoinHunter, honestly, I think SolidCoin has potential to be a decent alternative currency. Much more than the joke that was Ixcoin and I0coin. But, please don't try to sound like you are so great and the bitcoin developers all suck. And claim that your SolidCoin will kill off Bitcoin in a few weeks because it's so much better.

Could SolidCoin eventually catch up to and replace Bitcoin as the dominant crypto-currency. I guess... it's possible though I don't think likely. But in order for that to happen, you need to work hard on making SolidCoin much better than it currently is. Currently, SolidCoin fixes a few things that are crucial for a secondary currency. But those problems don't currently exist with bitcoins. It's true that maybe 10% of the bitcoin miners were mining these alternative currencies the past few weeks, and thanks to that the difficulty has decreased twice. But once it has started to become unprofitable compared to Bitcoins, miners will just go back to Bitcoins. Mining SolidCoins will not stay more profitable than mining Bitcoins forever even with your new difficulty retargeting algorithm. And thinking that SolidCoins will be so successful that all of a sudden, 50% of the Bitcoin miners will jump ship is just delusion of grandeur.

So, my advice is to give less rhetoric and do more. Go and actually add real improvements to the SolidCoin codebase and let the software do the talking.

+1 Less talk more action.

Based purely on the way coinhunter responds to postings put here on this thread is giving me doubt in his ability to not let his thoughts or feelings get in the way of producing/maintaining (over long periods of time) a reliable network from a development point of view.

Coinhunter you would gain more respect by myself and probably the community if you just address issues concerning the technical aspect of solidcoins and not your personal investment or feelings.

Geez we're just having a bit of fun, stop being a buzz kill. If you don't want to use SolidCoin because I have a personality then you don't have to, you're move, BAM. Smiley

Honestly I would think as the point person for solidcoin you would have more important things to do than try to one-up every person that disagrees with you on this thread.

EDIT: Oh and about your comment about using solidcoin I've used it quite well thus far taking the 32 BTC I got for my 25,000 solidcoins then turning that 32 BTC into 205 BTC in less than 48 hours.

So I'll use solidcoin when I see the profitability portion of it. I've commended you in the past on your efforts, BUT fyi you don't have to be a jackass to have fun or to have a personality.

100-more people with more coins is irrelevant to your profit.  Bad argument.
Need is not the same as want.  Bad argument.
If you couldn't care less, prove it and give them all to me sMXyNRxFVBBUANn2Zt51kb1AkDkY7B3VN8
That isn't all you did.  False argument.

Why would I give SolidCoins to someone who is awful at handling money like yourself?

I will hold SolidCoins to support people and businesses as time dictates, because unlike most people, I want a global currency that works. I've already tried supporting Bitcoin, it's not good enough. I'm not the only one with that opinion.

Awful at handling money?  Where did that come from?

If you want a real reason, and if you truly don't care less, you should give them to me because 1.)  I am ethical in the sense that I am a fair seller/buyer/participant in any economy who will not scam others and 2.)  I devote my time (even for a living) to try to help people.  I do social work.  Giving money to me will allow me to spend less cumulative time trying to secure my financial future so I can spend more of the remaining time helping others.

In 2 1/2 months I've made over 400% profit trading Bitcoins.  And that's with $100 initial investment.  The less money you have, the less money you make trading because of the fees even though the fee is a percentage.

No global currency will ever be entirely just.  It can't be.  Global currencies displace peoples' values onto something they otherwise wouldn't care less about -- a piece of paper, or a number in a computer.  Otherwise, these things would be meaningless to us.  But when it can suddenly buy you shit (only because everyone agrees that it can buy shit), it becomes associated with your identity (class system?).

Keep in mind, this applies to Bitcoin too.  I'm not saying Bitcoin is perfect, or even that SolidCoin isn't better than Bitcoin.  In fact, I actually think SolidCoin is better than Bitcoin.  But Bitcoin right now is bigger.  Too much competition before any one single currency thrives can make them all fail.  Think of an ecosystem with too few resources (akin to a thin economy) where you have already-weak creatures trying to survive.  They will all die.  That is why I think people should focus and commit to Bitcoin to make it strong before any other digital currencies come along.

If AOL, yahoo, google, bing, etc. all sprang up at once, all fighting with the other, it is likely that none would have thrived the way they did.  They thrived because they built off the SUCCESS of the previous ones. This was demonstrated through increased simplicity.  AOL was the most complex to use, and Google, the current king, is the least complex to use (seriously, check out the Google homepage and tell me that isn't genius in simplicity).  I'm not saying it's impossible that a winner cant emerge from a small pack of infant currencies.  But the successor to Bitcoin will have a much better chance if they wait for Bitcoin to become successful and prove that the free market can work.  Otherwise, there will always be traditional fiat currency.

If you donate a large portion of SC to me, I will even donate 50% of them to other SC users.  I will tell you who I sent them to and they can vouch for me that they received them.

Never thought I'd see the day we would have someone begging for solidcoins. LOL

Ya send me a bunch of solidcoins so I can distribute them for you. Send all of them so I can make sure everyone gets a fair share.

*wink* LAWL

The price is dropping because Bitcoin is king, Solidcoin was made by a jealous dude (jealous of Satoshi) and wanted to make a quick buck.  He did.  So did a few other people.

Way to go free market.  Nice idea...too bad the intention is way off.

As quickly as the price went up earlier this year there is the possibility that the price could drop just as fast.

Bitcoin is not king. Bitcoin is the first of its kind to get to this point.

I have my suspicions that bitcoin will not be the "king" in the end (i.e. 3 to 4 yaers from now).

just think when myspace was popular...then came facebook.

Bitcoin is king until some other digital currency dethrones it.  Otherwise, Ross Perot is President, not Obama.
"Will not be king?"  Did you just go from saying it isn't king to it is king in two lines?

Perception. You read it that way so it is that way to you. I was saying that it won't be "king" in the end, not implying it is "king" right now.

Your definition of king and mine are different.

Yup that's how the pros do it! Wink
17177  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: HD5970 new in stock newegg 499$ ! on: August 29, 2011, 11:12:11 PM
wait, people are still buying GPUs for mining?

Yes, and with what seems like a new block chain being introduced every week, it's not hard to have a new card paid off in less than a week.  In some cases a few hours.  In fact I bought this 5970 out of profits I made off of 8 HOURS worth of mining Ixcoins Smiley  178 days my ass! Tongue

Now that's what I'm talking about! Mine for 5 min and make 200 BTC lol.

None of this 100-200 days of bitcoin mining.

That sounds great, except it's too good to be true.

That's a recipe for hyperinflation. I thought BTC were limited in production so hyperinflation wouldn't occur?

Apparently creating new blockchains is a workaround for this limitation -- a limitation which was put there for the stability of Bitcoin.

That 200 BTC * $8.00 *had* to come from somewhere -- maybe partially from me, when I sell my 10 BTC for $85 instead of $115? It's gotta be. For every extra dollar gained *someone* is losing a dollar.

I don't think many people understand this whole *coin universe is a closed system. 100% closed. As in, only so much money sloshing around.

John, Mike, Frank, Sally, Alice, and Tom are playing "economy" with seashells and buttons. There are only so many of either, so the economy is stable. They trade them in exchange for US Dollars, too. Sure, once in a while one of the kids begs his/her mom for a few bucks of their next allowance...but basically there is only $5 from each kid in "the system" sloshing around. One person's windfall is another person's wipeout. And if Tom starts another currency, "Acorns" and starts trading them for buttons/seashells, it's bound to bring down the value of the existing 2 currencies. Sure, once in a while one of the 5 kids might convince their parents to give them a buck or two, but that would be pretty rare. The fact is that only $25 is sloshing around the kids' "economy", which would have to be the total value of the various "currencies" they're trading. Now what if the seashells and buttons were limited, but the acorns weren't? In other words, the value of their existing currency(ies) were stable, but then a second or third currency comes along, and causes the value of the STABLE currency to drop, because demand is divided up.

I think the key point here is: Even if the quantity of Seashells is carefully monitored to prevent hyperinflation, the introduction of a second currency (Acorns) can cause hyperinflation IF two conditions are met: A) the citizens use both currencies, B) the price of Acorns is pegged to Seashells

Zimbabwe experienced hyperinflation, but it didn't affect us here in the US, because no one here uses Zim dollars. Moreover, we don't peg the dollar's value to "how many Zim dollars" it's worth. The same can't be said for Bitcoin and other *coins. The latter are easily traded for BTC, BY THE SAME SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE.

Anyone holding their wealth (or a portion of it) today in "solidcoins" or "IXcoins" means that much less demand for BTC. No wonder BTC is $8.50 instead of $11.50 like last week.

You forget that there is an infinite amount of fiat money out there that can come into bitcoin and these other currencies.

Yes the money I gained came from someone. that's the risk.
17178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining SolidCoins is now 4 times more profitable than Bitcoins !!! on: August 29, 2011, 10:29:36 PM
And now it's less profitable.  Solidcoin sucks.

LOL. Price dropped nicely.
17179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate cryptocurrencies exchange on TradeHill and MtGox !!! on: August 29, 2011, 10:26:23 PM
Let's let these new currencies establish themselves first then when it is time they will be added for trading on those exchanges.

Until then let's just enjoy the mining and profit =) Grin
It's going to take more than just mining to make any of these currency's viable alternatives to Bitcoin. We have to be very realistic with ourselves and understand that it is going to take much work and perseverance to make any secondary block chain a viable alternative. We don't do ourselves any favors by pretending that everything will just happen on it's own. There needs to be a community effort, and all Bitcoin related technology's.

Right. I only consider these new currencies experiments or what-if scenarios.

It is healthy for the overall movement.

Yes....

Everyone I know is complaining about the current state of this forum..... which has made it almost useless....  with the children who are all about vandalizing the forum with viscous comments and attacking everyone.

So I finally decided to start a new forum again...    so we can get back to the "good old days" of discussing Bitcoin as adults...  without trolling  ( or, as I call it, forum vandalism ).

The link will remain in my signature line below.....   which is:    http://tinyurl.com/bitcoinpeople

Please come join me there for a breath of fresh air.....    Free and open discussion of All Things Bitcoin....  without all the junk posts.

Personally, I will no longer be posting in this forum.....   except to link to a post in this New forum.

I have to say that running away will not do anything but show that you are a coward.

Just because people post things that disagree with you does not mean that they are doing anything wrong. In my personal observation your show and your attitude has changed since your first bitcoin episode.

Yes i admit I could not have done a better job than you, but that is not my talent/strength. I do know that those are your strengths and the current situation with the bitcoin show, I would expect better from you.
