What do you mean by "gatherings"? And in what way does it affect the election? I don't know how it works in Florida but I'm in one of the battleground-ish states and there isn't any great enthusiasm for crowds, mainly due to the pandemic, but the turnout in early voting is still massive on both sides.

I work for a living so I commute. I drive past people that gather by the side of the highway with Trump signs. One such gathering has easily upwards of 100 people. And it happens all the time. These people have votes and they're going to use them.

It's also completely possible that the Biden crowds are not dumb enough to congregate during a pandemic, but there is still a big difference in the amount of Trump signs versus Biden signs.

Also I've talked to people and there really are a lot of passionate Trump people even right now. People who believe all that right wing propaganda about Antifa and BLM and that if Biden becomes president it's over for America and all that nonsense.

LOL everyone's so feisty with the bets... If Twitchy accepts could you please take it to a new thread - better for you two to hash it out and less distraction here.

Yep, if Twitchy accepts we PM, get our own thread, I wouldn't dream of hijacking yours.  I'm just putting some BTC on the line to show I'm serious.
182  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Elections 2020 - very self such moderated on: October 27, 2020, 03:34:49 AM
I look at all the material that has Biden winning but then I look outside at all the Trump people. I haven't seen people gather for Biden anywhere here. I believe Florida at least is going to Trump.

There are some houses with Biden/Harris stuff on them though. It's not as one sided as 2016.

The real question is who do you think is more qualified to figure out the opinion of ~150 million people?  Polling companies with a proven track record over thousands of elections  - some spanning more than 5 decades, or you when you look outside?

I mentioned that I look at the polling material. I know that it's 87/100 a Biden win. And for the record I'm an independent that was leaning heavily towards Bernie. I don't have a horse in this race.

I live in the densest county in Florida. I see pro-trump gatherings all the time. I don't see any Biden people. My place in the state of Florida is kind of important. It would be a fair assessment that any place north of where I am goes to trump. If you add that to my area also going to Trump I'm really confident that he will win Florida.

So if you only trust that the polls are accurate than Trump should lose florida 2/3 times. Are you willing to bet BTC0.02 that Biden wins florida? Because I am willing to bet that it goes to Trump. I certainly can't call the whole election, it's more than likely that Biden wins, but if you're in that camp you can't get complacent. Remember in 2016 Hillary was supposed to win (and even though she won the popular vote), she lost.

I never claimed I'm more qualified than the experts, but if it's raining outside and the weatherman says it's not and I'm wearing clothes made out of newspaper, I'm not stepping out and getting arrested for public nudity.

183  Other / Off-topic / The amount of people older than you never goes up! on: October 27, 2020, 03:02:11 AM
Just a fact I wanted to share.

It's kind of like a big battle royale game, where the number of competitors for oldest person just keeps going down. And you never know, maybe you're going to win, or in the future we'll all just live forever or for centuries.

Pretty crazy huh?

185  Other / Off-topic / Re: I drank 1.5 gallons of beer yesterday on: October 18, 2020, 05:55:56 AM
I used to drink a lot in the past but I don't do it anymore.
I had some bad hangovers with led me rethink if it is fun to drink alcohol.
You are having a great time at the time you are drinking but you waste the other day as you don't have the mood to do anything due to this weird feeling of wanting to vomit.

That's pretty much how overdrinking goes.

The best thing for health is probably not drinking alcohol at all. But just a little bit -on occasion- can be a lot of fun, anything more and you'll quickly learn about hangovers.

Maybe I can ask some of the people in my life that went to parties and regularly got black-out drunk what they got out of it. I honestly just don't see how that would be any fun.

There was one such party I was at, and there was this girl that was almost passing out (she was hanging out on the floor at that point) and was being really flirty with everyone despite having a boyfriend it was really embarrassing and un-fun, I helped her (with some other people) down the stairs and into her boyfriends car. Kind of a nightmare. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't there she would have been taken advantage of.

I also have this friend that never drinks but in the past, on the rare times I got a little drunk she was all over me, just wanted to talk to me when my guard was a little down I guess. I thought that was endearing but I don't want my guard to be even a little down so I avoided doing just that.
186  Other / Off-topic / I drank 1.5 gallons of beer yesterday on: October 16, 2020, 03:58:58 AM
It was fun for about half of it. I drank it over the course of the afternoon. Just the alcohol content of all that beer was about 280ml or about 220 grams of alcohol.

I puked afterwards. And last night wasn't great. Not really a hangover just a general feeling of malaise. I don't often drink and I've found that a good limit for me to stop at is somewhere under 100mls of pure alcohol content. 75ml is a pretty good amount for a drinking session.

Some of the people I drank with were super sketch. There was this vet that clearly had some PTSD. He said worst thing about being in iraq is when his commander told him to shoot anyone that approached a certain position and he had to kill a little girl with a backpack. No explosives in the backpack just books.

His friend that was there comforted him telling him that it's not his fault that terrorists used kids. The guy himself seemed very tortured by it. Not a ringing endorsement about joining the military.

And also killed a little boy. And then he also said that the good times were about killing a bunch of "bitches" hiding behind a wall with some sort of 50cal. At that point I was pretty sure he was super sketch.

All of the alcohol is out of my system now and in all probability I'm not drinking anything else for the rest of the year. That's probably the most alcohol I've ever consumed. I wanted to see if I'd get any sort of special effects out of it and there was nothing remarkable.

I don't think drinking more than a moderate amount is ever worth it. I don't understand why people do it at parties. There's nothing glamorous about puking in a toilet and feeling bad.

Drinking within your limits is a fun time though.
187  Other / Off-topic / Re: Nikola Tesla - One & Only on: October 14, 2020, 06:02:22 AM
Tesla was a genius, no doubt.

But he was also crazy. If you read his autobiography you'll see he had delusions of grandeur galore. Perhaps he was bipolar and a little bit of a schizo.

He's my role model nonetheless. I really identify with the man.

As for all the incredible stuff that's claimed, study it and occam's razor it. Don't just throw statements out with no knowledge and please show your work. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Edit: Tesla was listened to so the world we have today is a world that was influenced by Tesla.

Thanks to his amazing AC we have electricity everywhere.
188  Other / Serious discussion / Let's talk severe depression on: September 27, 2020, 02:50:43 AM
Before we get in to this I feel it's important that everyone understands the subject a little bit.

I'll find a case that will make it clear for everyone what living with depression is like, especially as compared to not having to live with it.

Ok. I remember watching a documentary that had the perfect case. But I can't find it.
My recollection of it follows. (I watched it 8+ years ago)
We see twin girls, one started showing signs of depression at a young age. While the other twin lead a normal happy existence the other couldn't even get out of bed.

Depression is not simply being sad for a while, not even being sad for a long after someone dies. Depression can steal away years of productivity and growth. It can lead to suicidal thoughts thousands of times a day for months on end. I'm not an expert medical professional so I can't define it much more concisely than that.

I trust that many of us on this forum have struggled with depression at one time or another. Some chronically. It also doesn't seem like there is an easy fix for it.

I've heard it called the black dog. I'm really fond of that expression. Right now, looks like I'm getting another extended visit from him.

The biggest problem I face is that I let things pile on. Everything. I'll let the dishes pile on. My room will just become dirtier and dirtier. Car maintenance to the absolute minimum. I'll even leave some funds on exchanges. So even if I can snap out of it for a little bit it's not easy for me to be happy because I can't put things to normal in that short time.

Sometimes I hope a natural disaster will come and wipe the slate clean, so that when I'm ready to be happy again, I won't have to deal with the mess I've made in my life.

Edit:

One thing I keep up is work. I will use a lot of energy to work hard and keep at it. I give it my all. Being depressed makes social situations more difficult. I can't find the words or keep up a conversation or connect to people while in this state. Not easily.

189  Other / Off-topic / Re: Prominent Christian caught in Sex Scandal, Hillarious and completely expected! on: September 25, 2020, 06:26:39 AM
All I wanted to do was share a laugh about another hypocrite.

Edit: And yes, the case is absolutely hilarious, it involves a pool boy named Carlos and cuckoldry.
It also involves some hypocrisy on the "victim's" side. It's just a good case to think about. /edit

OP, your surprise is even surprising (no pun intended) to me. Haven't read in the Bible about how false prophets will arise in the last days? Even Jesus said it that on the last day He will say to them, "I know ye not. Depart from me you workers of iniquity. So, it doesn't really bother me again whenever I hear how the clergy have made a mess of the gospel through their lasciviousness and materialism. Most of these people are agents of Satan

How convenient!

I guess all those catholic priests, including the pope where false prophets. And I guess the last days have lasted for about the entirety of Christianity.

Third-rate religious arguments aren't what I wanted to get here. Religion is something humans should have shed about 2000 years ago, everyone who still believes is.... well wrong.

All I wanted was to share this. It's funny.

Your definition of a false prophet is anyone who has failed.

You have to accept there is no true Christianity it's all false. They are all false prophets.

The bible always makes these useless predictions. There will be earthquakes, there will be hunger and starvation. Water will sometimes be wet .

Well, here are some bible style predictions from me, proving that atheism is correct (if the false logic that bullshit predictions make an argument correct)
Christians (of all denominations) will be raping and molesting children and be shielded by their congregation. And that is how we know there is no god.

On whether god exists, it's truly irrelevant. I mean if you believe in a parallel universe who is to say there isn't a universe where Middle earth exists? Or Hogwarts? Or Westeros from Game of Thrones? And yes, that is how far fetched god is.

the thing with religion. is the loopholes/clauses.

take any sin.
those in the religion will get forgiven for their sin whilst if your not religious your sin is seen as nasty and harmful.
de-code that and its saying if your in the religion do whatever the f**k you want and no trouble will come to you.

so the real question is. are sins actually harmful. or are they like saying 'you cant breath air unless you join our group and attend our meetings and make donations, so if you want to live, donate donate donate'

when christians use this 'sins will be forgiven' clause. they really use it. and do many hypocritical things

Yup. That's a +10 right there.

191  Other / Ivory Tower / Is Google different now? on: September 25, 2020, 05:40:54 AM
I remember back when I first started using the Internet. You could google something and it would give you back the most surprising results. Surfing through google felt like a journey of discovery.

But nowadays it feels like you get nothing interesting. Like there's something that muds everything up. Like all the content you want to get to is filtered out, and content that is pushed on you is added in.

Is it just me, or did Google really transform over the years? I don't use google to find anything original anymore. In fact it feels like google buries original thought as much as it can, even within the websites that it does own (like YouTube for example).
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation DisrupTor: Over $6.5m in cash and crypto seized by FBI on: September 25, 2020, 04:19:52 AM
Police can always order the drugs themselves and try to trace them. The criminals just need to think smarter. Maybe they  need a decentralized shipping service.

Can't you just drop off stuff at USPS boxes and have them shipped that way? So maybe you do that and ship to a remote post office, have someone unrelated to the deal pick it up and deliver to the final destination. The buyer then assumes most of the risk of getting caught, but since it's only a buyer they get a lesser sentence anyway.

And yeah, this is just the surface. DisruptTor is such a grandiose name. I bet they didn't even take 1% of what's going on out there. But I don't really know the extent of what's happening I don't even check out the dark web for fun. There's really no reason for me to even look.

When silk road came out though the darkweb seemed so alive.

I wonder if there are more drugs for crypto deals going on using traditional communication channels between drug traffickers around the world. Money will be one less thing they'll have to worry about shipping.

But the truth of the matter is banks have always turned a blind eye. I'm sure the biggest drug traffickers just use the banks like you or me.
193  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 4% APY on Bitcoin on: September 22, 2020, 05:15:54 AM
Not your keys Not your Bitcoin.

There's no reason why they couldn't loan out and lose everything and credit you 4% and then when you try to get back your funds it all goes bust.

It's just a financial incentive for you to not hold your own money. It's one of the most common ways people have lost their money in this space.

You want control of your Bitcoin keys at all times. While it's being held by a third party you have nothing but promises.

I for one I'm glad he's not around. We have enough to deal with with all the FUD, a living person has vulnerabilities. If Satoshi's identity was known and he got sick we'd see bitcoin tumble.

Also just like other people the powers that be hate he'd either have a car "accident" or he'd be caught for the made up rape of some women (like assange).

It's best both for Satoshi and for the Bitcoin community that his identity is not known.

196  Other / Off-topic / Re: do you think Healthcare and College should be free for all in the US? If so, how on: September 16, 2020, 05:11:05 AM
Here's why health care is so expensive in the US. I'm quoting Kyle from "Secular Talk"
Quote from: Secular Talk (Kyle Kulinski)
The US healthcare system is a scam, on top of a scam within a scam. Like, there's multiple levels and degrees of scamming going on.

Video title: Doctor Charged $10,984 For $8 Covid Test
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g9coGWppYg
https://www.propublica.org/article/a-doctor-went-to-his-own-employer-for-a-covid-19-antibody-test-it-cost-10-984
the insurance do not actually pay the $10k
they say its $10k. if the person was uninsured. because they know that a third of uninsured people default so they ramp up the cost to cover those that default
also to get the real money from people via the co-pay. they have to ramp up the fake cost to make it look like they are getting a great deal on it

what actually happens is that although there is a $10k charge. they actually settle for only a couple hundred to cover the doctors 20 minute consultation the receptionists 10 minutes check-in. and the costs of PPE and test

yep when people have a $10k debt for not having insurance they could actually negociate a pennies on the dollar settlement or claim bankrupcy.
insurance companies are happy to sell $10k of 'debt' to debt collectors for just $200 as its a break even amount
and thats how insurance companies never lose
the pennies on the dollar selloff of unclaimed debt covers their cost.

There's no reason to doubt that the health insurance actually paid the 10k in that case. And since it was covered there's no debt either, so that's irrelevant.

What insurance does when throwing out a little of their blood money (in that case 10k) is demonstrate its power and its usefulness. In all likelihood they've already made 10k in premiums from that client alone already.

They need that image that without us you're lost. They could even afford to lose money on 3 clients out of 10 and just because of the amounts involved they'd still be making out like bandits.

Healthcare should be one of the pillars of a society. I grew up in Greece. Hospitals felt sacred. A place for people to heal. The atmosphere of a strong social institution.

And private practices had a different character too. You'd have doctors work in both their private practice and the state hospital.

I had the privilege to visit a doctor in both settings.

The character of private practices in a country were healthcare is not a scam is similar to getting a hair cut or any other service. But doctors command more respect. And they also appreciate you more.

Here in the states you're made to wait inordinate amounts of times and people try to fleece you. Hidden charges. Extra charges that come in the mail. People not being able to tell you what your bill will be for simple things like fucking vaccines or STD checks.

Interacting with the healthcare system in the US is so unpleasant, I gave myself some stitches with a needle I bent to a hook like shape all bymyself. Even though I had health insurance.

College should also be free. Where I come from both college and trade schools are free and as long as you qualify to get in you only have to pay for books. It's the least a society can do as every dollar spent on keeping people healthy and allowing them to get a good education probably brings 10 dollars back to society. We're infinitely worse off without offering these things to the population. I'm glad that the military at least is not privately run for profit.

OP, the fact that you asked that shows that you don't truly understand what actually Bitcoin is. It's not merely a cheap consumer product, plus if it doesn't solve an inefficiency, then it wouldn't be used.

If you want to insult me like that, at least quote me, and then do it.

I don't understand bitcoin? Really?

Well, I've only been here since 2012. I clearly don't understand bitcoin. In all that time, I've been faking it.
I don't understand that bitcoin, as a protocol and currency is completely decentralized.

I also don't understand that bitcoin gets distributed through a proof of work algorithm and that there is no central authority. I don't understand that it works using cryptography.

I don't understand the mantra "not your keys, not your bitcoin"

Given all that my post is clearly stupid and I was waiting for you to enlighten me. Now you have shown me the error of my ways.

If you want to post on a thread, please make an effort to follow what has already been said, just skimming it is fine

I've already made my points clear so I won't re-iterate them. But you can have another crack at me if you'd like.

If this becomes a pattern they will definitely far surpass the US in deaths. Maybe that's gonna help Trump with the 2020 election if it happens fast enough.

Also here's something interesting. I was under the impression that the health system of India is very robust. However I just checked the doctors per 1000 people.

India only has 0.9, whereas the US has 2.6

Greece, a country that handled it's shit during the pandemic has 5.5

Then again, San Marino has 6.1 but with a population of only 33,000 that doesn't really mean much. Maybe all 204 of them got sick!
Anyway, San Marino only has 42 deaths. Really puts things into perspective.
