Hi Everyone, ive been working hard on the graphics for the new wallet dashboard, and its by no means complete.
Below is a screenshot of a concept im working on at present.

As you can appreciate, there is alot of work involved in this and im currently working on new buttons and tweaking the transparency settings/fonts/colours etc to make it clear and readable. I want to use this concept for the rest of the wallet eventually, since some of the pages look like windows 95 still, but parts will need some re-coding and new form objects/design added in Qt, so im concentrating on the dashboard first and foremost.

I hope you like this desert coloured theme ive got so far:
We welcome your feedback Smiley

Used version : v1.1.0.0-g32a928e (win64)

General

A graphic designer would be great right now (not me). The Wallet as a whole looks like it's made up of different pieces.
1 For instance the Transactions an Adress book tabs look like Windows 95 compared to the Dashboard wich is fresh and crispy
2 On almost every tab the name of the tab is in the top middle except on the Send/Recieve tab (i think the buttons are blocking it so they should be a bit lower)
Also on the Market Data tab it's not on the top but below the Main and Graphs buttons so switch that (not just Overview but also Bittrex, Mintpal and Cryptsy) . More important; it's not the same font as on the other tabs!!
3 Restyle ALL the buttons in the same manner. Now there are square (on Actions and Send/Recieve), semi rounded (Dashboard) and rounded (on Market Data) buttons
4 consequent color scheme. I dont's care if it's ancient silk road themed (desert ocre and yellows combined with bright colors)
http://www.washingtoninst.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/desert.jpg
http://travelioo.com/img/Grand-Bazaar-Istanbul-Photo1.jpg

or a more modern color scheme with black/grey and just a few brighter colors to highlight

Dashboard

Main colors (nav bar and background) look ok

Send / Receive

When Recieve is active, i can see a letter behind the send and recieve buttons (look closely i'ts right in the middle of the 2 buttons). Looks like there's old text behind the buttons.

Transactions

OK
but looks OLD

Address book

OK
but looks OLD

Statistics

Market Cap at 0$
OK but could also use some color/contrast

Block explorer

OK but could also use some color/contrast

Market data

shape and place of buttons

Social

OK but a bit dull (colored social media buttons?)

Actions

Colors, shape of buttons

Settings

OK (possibly a more modern window?)

Wallet interface

Reduce (to taskbar / to tray) as mentioned before
Maximize button possible?
May be a small bezel around the interface?

Conclusion

I really like the taskbar/tray icon !!
And since this looks like a camel from outer space i vote for a modern crisp wallet

Just my 2 SC

Hi Shovelcoin,
Im working on the graphics and am aware of the issues raised, your right about some pages looking like windows 95, im in the progress of working on each thing one page at a time. Interesting that you are happy with the taskbar icon, i didnt think it was that crash hot and am working on making it better (16x16 pixels is hard to work with!)
I think that the taskbar/tray buttons can be improved, and thats something we will look at.
The send/recieve button does have a gap in the middle and im looking into that.
But for now im concentrating on getting the dashboard right.
The old devs really slapped this thing together, and left it in a mess, but we will get there Smiley

Dashboard

  • Colors (Balances, Details, Transactions) are ugly, please restore previous
Colors were meant to be a change symbolizing new development - scheme can be made different, but under no circumstances restored exactly to previous.
Perhaps we can all look into color schemes.  Was done ninja for need to separate from old development team visually.

I'm fine with makeover, but previous colors are the best. Maybe focus on fix/adding functionalities, but changing colors was the worst thing of this update (my2cents).

im not the only one that feels this way. Style is lost on the new wallet, gabage.

Dont worry about the colour scheme, I'm working on a few changes, ive been busy this week and didnt have as much time as id like to finish things. Im going to overlay a background image on the dashboard and tweak the colours. The logo on the top left was just one concept i had, i will put a few concepts up here that people can choose if you like.

The main thing is i wanted to get rid of all the old branding that had been made by the old devs.

If only you knew how much mess the old devs had left everything in. We have cleaned out a ton of old graphics from the repository, and are cleaning everything up.

This release is not going to do well for the price of the coin. The coin is all about visual athletics. I know you had no choice, but this is the outcome. And the code can be sloppy and bloated as long as it works(fix that crap later, no wonder its taking so long). Maybe you can fix the look maybe you can't, but never should there ever have been any doubt placed in public eyes. I would only release a polished product and get someone, a designer to help. You will never match the old designer, that guy was one of a kind.

I didn't care for the colors on the original wallet #2 either(too blain & feminine). The original wallet #1 with the moving camel on the front had the best color scheme.

Maybe im wrong and just impatient and you did say its a beta. May the camel be with you. Camel speed.

Dont worry, we wont let you down.
There is alot of work that has to be done and i only changed the colours because some people said it was too pale and pastel like, i thought i would brighten it up a bit.

Im going to concentrate on the dashboard for now, since thats the first thing people see and progressively improve the rest of the GUI over the next few releases.
Im confident we will have the best looking wallet around when im done Smiley

Guys, here are two ideas for the next wallet release that will go a LONG way to making it clear Silkcoin has turned a major corner in its development and professionalism:

1. Change the release number to 1.1.0.0 instead of 1.0.9.4 ... or even just 1.1!
Is there any reason that our devs needs four levels of demarcation?
When people think "Do I have the latest version installed?", it's easier to manage if the version numbers are simpler.

2. Change the wallet's loading splash screen. That "stock market" image is tied in people's minds with the old/scammy team.
I think the grey sand dunes photo (with triumphant person in the background) from the new website by Moniq would be a great image to use.
This goes towards building on our brand's consistency at the same time .

Ben

I agree on both accounts, especially changing the wallet loading splash screen. Def reminds me of old team!!

Ill have a new Splash screen ready soon

Also
about the POW phase
I guess a new beginning of this lovely coin would deserve a bit of work as well
A lot of miners don't really understand the POS phase and consider a dead coin if they cannot mine it the hard way
Inflation.....hard to say the outcome of that
But a bit of excitement would do good I guess

It can still be mined on a multipool though, and since silkcoin is so cheap right now, its not been a better time to get some.

Should we register some domains for a multipool?
Such as silkpool.org or something along those lines?
1909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 08, 2014, 10:37:55 AM

Yes i saw hive wallet mentioned on trello, i think this is a very good idea if we can get on board with that.
1910  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 08, 2014, 10:15:40 AM
Your right, probably no real advantage in adding another POW stage,  perhaps we can tweak the POS phase to increase the reward slightly for a few blocks as an incentive to get people staking and keeping the network going strong.
1911  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 08, 2014, 08:42:17 AM
[...]
We can consider to implement the new PoW phase at block 105000-110000, that gives us 8000-13000 blocks to implement the new code and hardfork the coin. that is 5 days-9 days

#Just some ideas

Yeah i would be OK with that, it would spark interest back in the coin i think, the key may be in setting the right block reward, to spread this POW phase over a month i reckon, not a week like last time.

Interest only for getting coins in the cheap and dumping them. Care to explain how it sparks other interest in the project?

It just gives a chance for people to get into the coin as a relaunch, but i do agree that a multipool is probably a better option at the current prices, i think there are advantages and disadvantages to both options.
Either way, a multipool is a must.
1912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 08, 2014, 08:25:57 AM
But what amount are you going to make the PoW phase?

How many blocks?

You also need to hardfork the chain again.

If we are planning to add a 3rd PoW phase, I would like to propose a PoW phase of 7 million coins. (that will give us approx 50 million coins total)

Maybe 7000 blocks, that gives us 1000 coins per block.

in 24 hours we are passing 1500 blocks.

We can consider to implement the new PoW phase at block 105000-110000, that gives us 8000-13000 blocks to implement the new code and hardfork the coin. that is 5 days-9 days

Listen Everyone - If you read all my posts you can see I am PRO XC - I am not troll or fudder - people should know this by now.

Anyway, I DO believe XC will get there.  IT will surpass dark and possibly LTC @ some point... but for the love of crypto and satoshis ball sack.. do not OVERPROMISE THINGS anymore.

Always UNDERPROMISE.  This way u can OVER DELIVER and WOW everyone.

anyway thats my last words on this.

I will be back.  When I see XC is working, and when someone can answer my AMA questions.

XC will get there, its got far more than DRK to offer, but i dont like to hype things up to gain value, its good for a coin to reflect its true value by itself, XC will do that, no one should be in for a quick buck, although that is indeed possible, you have to be in it for the long run.

LTC and DRK will be long forgotten in 12 months, in another year, BTC, NXT, XC, NEM, RDD will be in the top 10 list, i can almost guarantee this.

Ill try and give trello a bit of a tidy up tomorrow, ive been busy with work this week, but will try and get round to it.

I will refine the final logo artwork and upload some high res vector images in SVG format that the devs can work with and incorporate into the wallet.

Keep up the good work guys, remember that we need to come back better and stronger than before, and im confident that we will!
 Grin

Over and out for me on this side of the earth, see you in the morning!
1916  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 07, 2014, 04:23:52 AM
1) I have  Silkcoin.co
2) I can't post on trello
3) I need our official webmaster/designer to contact me....somehow.
4) I need our official task manager/director to contact me to regarding #1
5) There is no 5.  I just really like the number.

Oh, and for what it's worth, my wife who has a M.A. in Fine Arts has a suggestion concerning the camel logo (s).  She suggests that the camel be made to face left instead of right.  Since we (english lang) read left to right and it is an ingrained pattern for eye movement, pointing the camel left generates (subconsciously) a forward movement and creates a more positve symbolic relationship blah...blah...blah....instead of our eyes first seeing his ass which suggests he is running away from something.

Me? I think he looks a lot like the Camel cigarette logo, and now I suddenly want to drive down to Mapco and buy a pack of cigs.

Interesting to read that, when i designed the logo, i actually turned the camel around so it pointed to the right, as it didnt look right pointing towards the left, anyway, camel cigarettes have the camel pointing left, so its all the better to have it pointing right, the camel on the cigarette packet has only one hump, so i think its safe to say we look alot different Smiley

Development Update

Hi,

Work on the API/exchanges has been going steady and is working GREAT for UNIX! , sadly windows is another story: as we are having multiple serious issues, not to mention being unable to build SC on Qt 5 at all on win32. This may require large code re-writes.

I know everyone wants to see daily progress but stabilizing the client was priority one, and now work can continue on fixing quality of life issues like APIs, in client function, etc.

Thanks!

Ps also each client/update must be tested and work on multiple operating systems (this adds more lead time on any new development)

Makes me feel better knowing that im not the reason that I couldn't get it to build on QT 5 Win32.

I'm sure bholzer knows how to deal with hatred and fud, It's everywhere and commonplace. Let's try and move forward and ignore everything else. Investors require regular updates at least once a week or they will start to have weak knees.

Focus should be put on the ecosystem. A public representative / marketing manager should put together a roadmap plan.

Maybe we should all just contribute graphics, coding, marketing, coins, support and let the best rise to the top.

Im happy to help with marketing, we can discuss more on trello, and i think there is now an irc channel too.
1919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 06, 2014, 09:46:28 PM
I'm going to continue to get caught up on everything here and sift through the additional PMs I have received. As has been mentioned, I have never requested any funds be sent my way nor have I chosen to mislead anybody in any way. MEGAman and JudgeCrypto each voluntarily sent me 0.5 BTC which I will gladly return to them in the event that I cannot pull my weight here.

The bottom line is that I am extremely busy (I am a very hands-on co-founder of an Internet startup with tens of thousands of customers) and, unfortunately, that has to take priority over everything else. Beyond that, I have my own coin which I have been neglecting a bit due to the work I've been putting into SilkCoin. I was pulled away for travel for several days and I did pass along some info to MEGAman to report in the thread on my behalf (unfortunately, his update wasn't very complete). As soon as I returned, I made a post here announcing my return and my intention to fulfill my promise to deliver an all-new client. I have dedicated over 12 hours just to the development of the new client - keep in mind that nobody has successfully built a PoS coin on the latest Bitcoin Core source (at least not to my knowldege). After catching up on over 50 PMs (many of them with an angry/violent tone) and reading through the thread to get caught up I saw that there is a repaired client in-place and a team had been assembled in my absence. I figured you guys had it under control and could hold down the fort while I took my time to finish the new client (the emergency before was to get something out and get the exchanges back online - now that it has been handled by other members of the community, the urgency is somewhat lessened). I understand members of the crypto community tend to have short attention spans and need to continue to see progress - I'm doing what I can. As I mentioned in my "return" note, this is a holiday weekend (I live in the United States - July 4th is Independence Day here) and I wanted to spend it with my family.

I have a number of obligations (hence the reason I only ever intended to lead this takeover temporarily) and it's absolutely important to me to get this thing up and rolling. I attached my name to this project for no other reason than wanting to help save this (primarily) awesome community. The hatred that continues to be sent in my direction is both ridiculous and irritating. I have put a lot of time and energy into reading all of your messages, getting this comeback rolling, and writing code for the new client and I have asked for nothing in return.

Yes - I deleted an inflammatory post in the Murraycoin thread by "psychocoin" which accused me of being a liar/etc. The post had nothing to do with Murraycoin and was the first thing I saw when I returned from my trip. Negative attitudes and jerks certainly cast a dark shadow over the altcoin world but they aren't going away and sometimes the best way to handle them is to just ignore them and push forward. I left town for 4 days and returned to an entire inbox full of hate mail; this is crazy.

Now I'm working on determining the best way to assist the team and trying to get a feel on the direction the community wants to go with this. If it doesn't make sense for me to be on board or if it's decided I'm not a good fit that's fine - I'm not looking to get in the way here. All I know is that people like "psychocoin" do nothing but incite panic, kill motivation, and just create a toxic environment where the optimism and enthusiasm begins to vaporize. It's important to keep things on-point, productive, and keep making progress.

I intend to follow through on everything I promised and, like I said, if that doesn't work out for whatever reason I will certainly return the funds I received to the two individuals that voluntarily sent them to me. I cannot stress enough that I never asked for anything here - my intentions were (and still are) 100% genuine, for what it's worth.

Dont worry bholzer, you are doing a great job, and your welcome to stay here!
Dont let any hurtful comments/messages turn you off. I guess we can all expect this to happen, and some people dont seem to appreciate that this is all volunteer work and that people like you have full time jobs you have to attend to.

Im really looking forward to seeing the new wallet, its only onwards and upwards from now on guys!  Grin

I believe Beholzer can do it. He's putting in the time and effort and thats shows a lot.
Just to clear this up.  Bholzer is not working on this project currently to anyones knowledge.

He was working on it according to all the other threads he made and posted in 2 days ago. Is he no longer part of it???

From what i understand, he will be working on it, i just dont know when he has started, i think he said in his last post he hoped to have the new wallet wrapped up by monday.
