1921  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buying bitcoins by paypal on: August 29, 2018, 09:34:46 PM
You can't be sure that whatever funds you receive from anyone are safe until rougly 180 days after you've received the funds, so make sure you're doing transactions with trusted members and sites whenever possible to ensure you're minimizing the risk of someone disputing a transaction.

I tend to do transactions from BTC to PP on this site. It's fast and easy, and rates are decent if you trade with the right people. I haven't really had significant uses yet trading on these forums, and I don't expect to find any in the future.
1922  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: XBTFreelancer Down on: August 29, 2018, 04:12:25 PM
The most odd part about all of this is that the XBTFreelancer Twitter account seems to still be tweeting about potential offers even while their entire platform is down. Seems like most things they tweet about are automated; If I were them, I'd consider at least stopping these tweets during the time the site is down, and providing updates to the situation. Doesn't seem like they're too dedicated to that at the moment to me.
1923  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SHA-256 Contracts - No Payouts on: August 29, 2018, 04:08:30 PM
Yep, some ops do claim to own miners and some actually do, while others don't. By investing in a cloudmining contract, you're effectively offsetting the risk taken by the mining provider to you, from them buying miners and mining with them. Only the service provider actually gains from this in the end, and if you do manage to get your money out of one of these schemes, you're getting the short end of the stick.
1924  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1 year after Segwit. Have things improved for casinos and gambling sites? on: August 28, 2018, 02:34:56 PM
I, too, have only mainly seen P2SH addresses (3 prefix), and I don't recall ever seeing a native SegWit address on any gambling sites recently, nor really any ecommerce sites now that I think about it.

Fees for withdrawal may have dropped somewhat from what they were at the height of the spam attack, but I haven't noticed a significant decrease in withdrawal fees either. I don't have a problem with withdrawal on most sites though, and I started lowering the amount of withdrawals I made during the spam attacks to lower whatever fees were charged then. I still support SegWit even with fees where they are right now, though.
1925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why martingale is PURE SHIT. on: August 28, 2018, 01:57:15 PM
This is why I tend to shy away from games like dice and roulette. Some people may try strategies to make things a bit more interesting, but they will never work due to house edge in play, and there's really nothing fun about the games themselves to me, which is also a big factor to why I enjoy eSports betting. I watch the matches, I learn new strategies from the streams from analyzing players, and this helps me with predicting winners.

Unless a game has technical flaws and isn't implemented correctly somehow, strategies such as martingale will never work.
1926  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: IF PAYPAL BANNED YOU on: August 28, 2018, 01:52:35 PM
PayPal doesn't own eBay anymore but they still work together pretty tightly, though they're slowly cutting ties with each other.

I absolutely agree with 1Referee's statement about OpenBazaar not advertising themselves a whole lot- I only recently heard about them from this forum and one cryptocurrency subreddit I was browsing a few months back. Additionally, I honestly don't think Openbazaar is too difficult to navigate for a newbie. It's really just the small inconvenience of having to install software to view the marketplace that turns most people away.
1927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which altcoin are easy to mineable? on: August 24, 2018, 12:48:18 AM
To be completely honest, it's really not even worth mining on most CPUs even if you do have a cheap or free electrical rate. You're just not making a whole lot on most CPU-based algorithms, even with high core-count chips like with Ryzen or older Opteron and Xeon processors, and I'd suggest saving for a GPU or ASIC for the future if you don't already have the money. You're making more by mining with a GPU, and a 470 (which can now be found around $120) will do the job just fine.

If you're looking for the most easy way to mine and you don't care about fees or anything like that, Nicehash is a foolproof program you can run on any machine capable of mining that will get the job done. You just click a few clearly labeled buttons, and you're off. Nicehash may not be the greatest, but it does the job.
1928  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain now requiring KYC documentation to buy hardware on: August 23, 2018, 11:29:07 PM
I like eBay, but you get charged a pretty hefty premium for buying ASICs most of the time compared to buying direct or from this forum, especially when the market's going upwards.

That brings me to another point- in Computer Hardware, it's possible to buy all kinds of computer parts and ASICs. I've done lots of deals there, and you'll be safe as long as you use a trusted escrow while purchasing miners. I often find great deals for miners and parts there, and the only potential downside is that most sellers only accept BTC or alts as payment.

From what i've noticed, and I shouldn't be saying this because this is what I'm planning on doing, you can get miners pretty cheap if you buy them in multiples. 1 miner on it's own might sell for £550 in an auction, ten miners together recently sold on there for only £4100 which is a massive discount on what it could be and 10 antminter S9s for £4100 which were seven months old in my mind is a bargain.

You can afford for two miners to fail at that price.

There looks to be other miners like the dragonmint which look promising (providing they actually work as advertised)...
I don't have the money to invest in multiple miners at once, but from the few bulk listings I've seen on eBay, your observations seem correct. Only thing is I don't see a lot of bulk sales on eBay for miners in the US, but that may just be me not filtering through single-miner and spam listings enough.

As for the Dragonmints (at least for the T1s), they seem reasonably reliable according to this thread, and MyRig's offering repair and servicing for them. I've used MyRig for repairs in the past, and they've always done their job quick, and I had around 99.7% uptime for the hosted S7 I had with them a while back that mined with Kano's pool. One downside with the T1s is that they only work on pools supporting Asicboost, such as Slushpool, Ckpool and Bitminter, so you're limited on the number of pools you can use. Other than that, they're a decent alternative to Bitmain miners.

I can only infer it's IPO related, really the only thing that comes to my mind. I don't want to send them my passport either (though it's a Chinese ID) as of yet, and I hate seeing KYC popping up everywhere in crypto.

Here's the email that was sent to me in code, for better formatting and reading:

1931  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why after all this time is 'crypto journalism' so shit? on: August 23, 2018, 06:22:41 PM
Most sites also hire cheap and shoddy writers just so they can get paid by whoever's sponsoring their articles with minimum effort. I often see this happening with half-assed articles that only show a part of the story (sometimes even on larger crypto news outlets!) and look like they took five minutes to research; it sucks, but almost all articles nowadays are crap and simply just well SEO optimized for clicks and views. It truly pays to do your own research with crypto, and this is also why I enjoy browsing this site and Reddit more to find news about crypto. You get real information most of the time here.

1932  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Short term trading altcoin on: August 23, 2018, 06:17:37 PM
Volatility could mean either profit and success, and nobody's going to simply give you instructions on what coins to invest in- that's where expertise and learning comes in. Sure, there is definitely luck in picking a coin, but if you do research and don't invest in shitcoins that are clearly poorly made or have little potential, you have a good chance to turn a profit.

Always remember to never invest more than you can afford to lose. You're not completely gambling here, but with the bear market we're currently in, it's easy to lose a portion of your money while trading in just a few hours.

I typically go for longer-term trading, as it's always been my strong point, and I try to stay away from short-term altcoin trading. However, if you're executing your strategies correctly, there is profit to be found.
1933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do these gambling sites make good money? on: August 23, 2018, 05:04:30 PM
They absolutely do, and the bigger ones like Nitrogensports and Fortunejack likely make quite a bit, as these sites have started large signature campaigns costing them thousands of dollars per week in the past for advertising purposes, and they still advertise on many crypto sites, which would take a good amount of money to do.

High betting volume on bigger sites plus house edge means they're raking in the money.

As for starting a new site, it'll be extremely difficult as there's just so many sites out there that aren't terribly active or receiving lots of traffic. You'd need to stand out one way or another, such as in games or support speed/site layout for a site to be successful. It's not impossible, but it's just difficult nowadays. You'd also need financing for a decent bankroll to begin, and there's been lots of discussion regarding how big your bankroll should be for a starting casino (there's no definitive number).
1934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New NVIDIA 20 series cards available for pre-order, shipping 9/20/18 on: August 23, 2018, 04:25:20 PM
If you're using a reshipping service like UsGoBuy or Reship.com, etc, be prepared to go through identification if needed and you'll be fine. Reshippers usually do this for higher-value orders from bigger retailers to prevent reshipping fraud, and it can be a bit of a hassle if you're not prepared for it.

As for what's cheapest and works best, I have found MyUS and Shipito have been the best. Still costs a bit to ship to a few countries, but you'll generally still save over buying in your own country if you happen to have inflated prices.
1935  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sometimes enough is enough on: August 23, 2018, 03:24:44 PM
This is exactly what I do with gambling- I go out with a set amount of money and nothing else, so I can't possibly spend too much. I have good self-control besides that, and I've never gambled more than I could ever afford to lose.

The subreddits Fatanut listed are good, and I've personally browsed the latter one (r/getdisciplined), but if you're having a hard time reading the articles, there is an option to switch to old Reddit in the top right. Nobody I know likes the new interface as it's slightly more difficult to skim and read, and it's also slightly more demanding on your CPU than the old interface.
1936  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Your rigs need your help on: August 22, 2018, 09:26:31 PM
My rigs are now mostly comprised of FE GPUs, and for those I will take compressed air and blow the dust off of not only the fan, but I also take the cover off the GPU and blow out the fins inside. I do this every month or two, and my temps are great, even in a room that's not too well-ventilated in the summer.

If you're buying compressed air cans, try ordering in larger amounts. If you're buying only a few cans at a time, you're paying a premium. It's more cost-effective long-term to just buy several at once.

Some people also use electric dusters to remove dust, but I've never used one due to some people talking about damage to parts from such devices. Here's a listing on Amazon that seems to have decent reviews.
1937  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Have anyone used this AI trading platform? Is it legit? on: August 22, 2018, 06:31:54 PM
The weirdest part of this to me is that the website's called AIMiner, but this has nothing to do with mining at all- might just be a repurposed domain name.

I've never heard of this trading bot, and I wouldn't suggest using it as a result. If you're trying to get a legitimate trading bot for automated trading, Gunbot is a decent option, but be aware that prices start from around 0.025BTC for one exchange from an authorized dealer IIRC. If you go down this route, you'll also need to learn how to configure your license of Gunbot- more info in the thread linked above (click on Gunbot).
1938  Economy / Gambling / Re: Guess Two Thirds - a simple game of math and greed, NOW LIVE on: August 22, 2018, 06:11:54 PM
The site seems almost too simple to the point that players will start asking questions. There's no FAQ like veleten stated, and no provably fair mechanism on the site either, so players can't know if the game is legit or not. I'd suggest adding such mechanisms to the game and then relaunching it, as nobody wants to play on a game that isn't verifiably legit.

NAN of Undefined is likely just a site error. I also experienced this while staying on the page for a few minutes, but it should display __ of 25 spots remaining. I get 16 of 25 when refreshing the page.

I don't have Metamask installed, and I'm not getting any error message upon visiting the site and I also don't have an adblocker on.
1939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anything good to mine? on: August 22, 2018, 06:02:27 PM
I definitely agree PoW isn't going anywhere in the near future, as PoS just isn't going to cut it for completely replacing PoW- it's got too many issues as of now, and I'm not saying there aren't better proof systems out there, but PoW is currently the best option.

Assuming you're using an S9, you have electrical costs of around $0.02/kWh- you're still better off than most people are with SHA256, and profitability dropping is just a part of mining. It's unfortunate that you're not making more with your SHA256 ASIC, but PoW's working just fine.

Been looking for something like Purse for a while that didn't have as long of a wait for a tiny discount, what's the maximum amount that can be ordered? I may need your service for a few products, but it depends how much the total order amount can be.
