Yeah, i think rebranding to silk would be fine.

Silk was an expensive commodity, so it would be simply used as a unit.
1984  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 28, 2014, 10:15:54 PM
About rebranding:

Yes, guys, who talk about SilkCoin name known from bad side (scam, weird dev etc). But SilkCoin sounds great. Everyone likes funny camel, everyone likes tempo of SilkCoin. If we really want to rebrand it will be cool to use something closer. Maybe CamelCoin (Silk still better yeah)?
BrianJaye, friend you done amazing work. I like it, nice images and logos.

Also nice point to dancing from anonymous Bazaar, not from coin. Coin is not innovation. But suitable decentralized anonymous market it is!
I am web developer, I can help to develop backends on node.js. If we can gather dev team, we can create marketplace with web access by local address (localhost/127.0.0.1) and make very pretty and usable market in a browser, which works with our coin.

Again I am supporter of the idea to make all things from scratch, but with old community.

I dont feel rebranding is really necessary, and the original term for silk road was never anything to do with illegal activity, it was an ancient trade route, if we are starting the grand bazaar, then i think the name "silk" should stay, perhaps coin could be dropped though, im getting tired of all the "coins"

Perhaps Silk Crypto would be a better name?
IDK, but i think the camel, etc should all stay, i dont think pheonix coin is really necessary.

Bholzer is our temp dev...for now their is not really a "dev" team, but it will show up eventually. I still have good faith in this coin, but a dev team needs to be build asap.

Damn, how the fuck trello is working? Can i reply?
The activity is looking good on trello!
Ill try and update my status there tomorrow, ive been rather busy this weekend.
Good discussion is starting to take shape.

1988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 28, 2014, 04:40:00 AM
Silkcoin was a scam, why so much enthusiasm for it ?
It may have been a scam (from what I've heard claimed of the two key devs) or it may be a case of a poorly managed dev team that got in over their head and then the leaders bailed out leaving bagholders with a buggy coin and broken promises. The ideas brought up for Silkcoin were good though, and so if enough competent dev support can be brought together (which appears to be happening), the project can still be brought to fruition. It's better than starting from scratch anyway.

He (lead dev as know as Silkcoin on Bitcointalk, Robert Crouzet in real life) has transfered ALL premined coins to Mintpal and sold BEFORE ANY COMMUNICATION to the "community" (insider trading).
Current situation is not a consenquence of a "poorly management", it was his/their plan.

Regardless of what the old dev did, this coin still has some very strong points. Already on the top 4 exchanges, wide distribution, great community and the best part of course is having Bholzer as lead dev.
The scam is the past, this is the new SC community  Smiley

I really dont even know if it was originally intended as a scam to start with, i mean they appear to have completed alot of work on the coin, it just seems to well designed to be a scam coin, all the other scam coins ive seen look like a total joke compared to SC.

Interestingly, a successful community takeover is going to make this coin more successful than before and the original devs will wish they never abandoned the project!

Anyway, this coin is going to be a testimony that good things can happen out a bad situation, i think we will lead the way as an example of a community effort.
It also teaches us the lesson to be wary of coins with a "private" dev team, in other words, its safer to trust a coin that has many members involved from the start, with regular communication, just like any professional open source project. We were trusting these guys to deliver, and for all we know there may have only been one dev working on the whole coin.
1989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Alt coin to invest in 2014 on: June 28, 2014, 04:18:40 AM
Silkcoin could still have a bright future, with the community takeover happening, its going to be the most up-to-date POS/POW hybrid coin.

Digibyte may surprise us all too.

But seriously in the long term, NXT and NEM, im only investing in other alts to try and get a bigger stake in NXT.
1990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 27, 2014, 10:15:03 PM
me I can compile for mac if needs be Tongue

Thats great if you can, ideally in the short term, we need to go full mobile, so if you or anyone else you can think of who can build an iOs or Android wallet, would be greatly welcome to the team.

Once Bholzer has finished his work on the wallet, we should be good to go for those who can recompile on different platforms.

I expect considerable work would be required for mobile, but if we want to be a successful coin, we need to go mobile.
1991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WANKCOIN - WTF??? on: June 27, 2014, 11:09:31 AM
check the block explorer first block was mined on January 10th and the ANN wasn't till May 26th the devs solo'd 32,000 blocks, 1.6 mill almost 75% of total coins in circulation

On the 10th of january?
And this coin only launched last month?

Thats an epic premine.
1992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 27, 2014, 11:05:56 AM

There probably will be some update this weekend.
1993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WANKCOIN - WTF??? on: June 27, 2014, 09:08:14 AM
How did i miss this coin ill never know, but seriously i thought it was a joke at first when i saw their video, i must say that its been professionally made.
It seems its for real with all the places it can be spent, but how come sexcoin never got anywhere in the time its been around?

Owners of these porn sites made this stupid coin.
Exactly. The coin is stupid and useless. Only to be accepted by porn sites.

What is even more stupid is that it offeres no anon features, yet they say it lats you make anon payments, which is not 100% true, infact the whole coin is a direct ripoff from bitcoin, exactly the same block times, number of coins etc.
There is absolutley nothing unique about this coin other than the name!

1997  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying BTC with credit card? on: June 27, 2014, 04:33:45 AM
i saw ATM's for BTC in some places, and i think that its possibale to buy with cash and also credit card

AFAIK BTC ATMs will not allow you to use a credit card
You can't, you must trade fiat for bitcoin or bitcoin for fiat. These type of ATMs do not accept any kind of cards

I dont get how those ATMs pay instantly without conformation?
Obviously they would be a failure if you had to wait 10 mins for the first confirmation, so i expect they trust most people wont be ripping them off.
If you are buying bitcoin with cash fiat then you simply insert the cash in the machine and the machine instantly verifies that the cash is legit, you provide a QR code for your BTC address and the machines sends the BTC to your address, the confirmation (of the cash) is instant.

When selling bitcoin, the machine will provide a QR code with an address to send BTC to. It will print out a receipt that you can later scan to redeem your cash once the transactions is confirmed by the network (with "x" confirmations). You would not need to actually stand/wait at the machine while you are waiting for the TX to be confirmed.

Ok, that would make sense, but they demonstrated on TV the first Bitcoin ATM in New Zealand, he scanned the QR code with the smartphone and the cash came out of the machine almost instant!
1998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 27, 2014, 04:30:01 AM
He could have made off with around 60k, they got cocky though and thought their whitepaper would cause the price to jump, done the opposite hehehe
I really doubt he is still holding any coins.

I tend to think that too, they obviously thought it was going to increase further.
1999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SC] SilkCoin - Takeover and Rebuilding Discussion/Proposal on: June 27, 2014, 01:46:03 AM
From what i understand from reading everything here, bholzer is basically acting as an interim dev.
He will keep it going until the time that a new dev team comes on board.
I can expect that this could take some time.

Hmm, then we have there our little hickup for good progress in the coin. Other problem i have is this. The original devs perhaps have millions of coins. Now the community is going to invest in the development en with great luck and superior coding maybe we get lucky and the coin starts up again gaining trust and investors. The value is rising, and who get's all the money? The original devs. And to be honest....that sucks!

Think there are a lot of problems we are going to face to build this coin back up. There has to be some kind of meeting of people who are trying to build this all up and ask our self...how much is it worth to bring SC back up? Is it not better to pick a different name, but with the same ideas the original dev(s) had and start all over?

Yes, i know that this means that the original coins are worthless then. But please, do we really want to invest a lot of money, time and effort just to make the original devs rich? I mean, with every 1mil coins with a price of $0.05 makes $50.000, just for doing nothing. If everyone answers my question with a yes, then we have a strong based community and then we can work this out together. But the problem remains that we do not have a steady dev team already, is a little fucked up, if i may say so.

It's a discussion question, not a fud one.

I thought the whole reason this coin crashed is because the premine was moved and dumped.  Ya lost me.

No it wasnt, it was going down for a good week, then they dumped the premine when it was only worth about $6k.
They didnt walk away with much.

The devs abandoned the whole project, and were not capable of fixing the bug in the wallet, so they just gave up.
