21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 30, 2019, 04:46:17 PM

Any investors that purchased any crypto at near all time high prices or near the tip of a bull run would be feeling disillusioned right now.

Those that purchased at $600, $700 or $800 would be at a massive loss and that would be a hard hit to take. I feel sorry for them.

What about those that purchased Bitcoin at near all time highs of $20,000 in December 2017, they have been suffering for a long time too.
I think they cut loss long time ago, no one can wait until BTC reach the ATH in the past, time has tested their endurance for too long, and I think no one can wait anymore. We have to accept the mistake and start over.

If 2 years is the most an investor can wait on the market then they aren't investing, they are gambling.

Gotta say, I completely agree. I really doubt any serious investors/anyone who put in real quantities has given up. 2 years is nothing honestly, especially for a brand new nascent technology.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: October 24, 2019, 04:16:16 PM
Decred dev funding and governance mechanism are brilliant features, and the airdrop bootstrapped a community of enthusiastic supporters, and staking via tickets system keeps a lot of coins locked up earning income for holders. The whole decred design is very well thought out, that's why guys who messed up the airdrop are still upset.

Blockchain governance's "brilliance" is not yet proven in my opinion. Give an angry, and motivated minority enough reasons, and they will fork, and the chain will split.

That's another great feature Decred was designed against. It's very expensive for a minority to maintain a working fork of Decred. The protocol just doesn't allow for it like, e.g., Bitcoin does.
...that's not to say a motivated minority couldn't just go and copy pasta the github repo and release their "fork" that way: but there are different implications for that kind of deployment.
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 05, 2019, 11:48:28 PM
It's because the chinese scam that was eating ~50% of the gas finally ended. Devs drained the contract, so no one is playing the game. No more crazy load from 1 dapp.

But Ethereum still needs to be scalable. If one single DApp even if ponzi or scam, clogs the network, that is not good at all for legit resource-hogging apps.

You're absolutely right... and it's why V and EF (and more recently, the several other "2.0" dev groups) have been working on Ethereum's scaling solution for some time now. It will get here. Crazy progress is already being made, and no other chain can claim so many dev groups working on various client implementations as Ethereum can.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 03, 2019, 03:32:36 AM

This Istanbul testnet fork caused Ethereum network split,
and this is one more proof why good testing is needed before mainnet.
On a good note I noticed a lot lower fees on eth network recently

Treasury outputs will be programmatically granted by ticket holders, such that contractors are paid for the work they perform.
Take a look at the several existing examples of this happening through Politeia. The DEX alone is a significant effort that got approved by voters, with significant funds being released to pay for that work. The only difference now is Treasury payments are still submitted to the chain by a Company 0 person (if and after being approved through Politeia).

Can't stop the Decred train!
Choo Choo motherfuckers!  Cool

Edit:
Quote
In August the Treasury received 15,278 DCR and spent 8,223 DCR. Using August’s daily average DCR/USD rate of $26.23, this is $401K received and $216K spent. As these payments were for work completed in July, it is also informative to consider them in the context of the July average daily rate of $28.97 — in which case the USD spent figure is $238K. As of Aug 9, Treasury balance is 638K DCR (15.8 million USD at $24.80).

Putting aside the details of devs staking the premine and vote losers still being able to fork away, this was my main point in the previous page:

Quote
If Bitcoin used this system then Barry Silbert would have activated segwit2x in like thirty seconds, and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Apparently the market as a whole is skeptical as well that Decred is "bitcoin upgraded" considering it's price versus BTC has dropped by over 50% in the last six months.

I just don't think the market as a whole considers any "governance" structure as better, whether it's the eth benevolent dictator model, Monero's technocratic approach, Decred richest holders decide, or anything else. Yes, the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent, but I think the market tends towards the best choice, and looking at a time period of 3-5 years now that choice is clearly bitcoin.

True enough, historically! I expect sentiments will shift after Politeia's value is demonstrated a few times over sufficiently 'difficult' or 'controversial' decisions need to be made. Plus, once the Treasury (dev fund) is truly decentralized, and solely ticket holders have the power of releasing those funds, well that will be something special I think. IMO, the self-sustaining feature on this SoV coin will prove itself to be highly-valuable in the years to come.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: September 14, 2019, 06:29:57 PM
The claim to the voting system is not entirely clear. Look at the distribution of DCR coins by wallets - “small” holders can, and without any difficulties, create a group of votes that will easily lead the vote in their favor.

Not sure what you mean..."small" holders still must lock their DCR for tickets. Only tickets vote, and the price of tickets is tightly associated with how many are currently "live" on the network.
It is not the case that people can "create a group of votes that will easily lead the vote in their favor" without putting in the requisite funds to buy the tickets first.
Skin in the game is what counts here. Smaller holders have less skin in, thus cannot sway results as described.

Hahaha. I already added him in my ignore list. But why is he so resolute on trolling Decred of all cryptocurrencies? Is there a historical lesson I should learn about this person?

He is trolling around since he missed to register his airdrop - just put him on ignore. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1290358.msg18421713#msg18421713

i registered and was "accepted" ..now wheres my fucking coins? :\  (((we never forget >>>we never forgive)))

YOU didn't submit an address for them to send the DCR! No shit you didn't get coins.
Go derp around elsewhere, you don't even legs to stand on here  Cool

premine distributed to about 3000 people around the world.
Anyone who believed in the coin and kept it until its ATH could sell for $36500.

Actually if they have been staking coins they would have had a lot more coins than that, and could sell it all for more than that amount still today.

Yes! In Stakey we trust!

What do you think about this new DCR privacy feature in the light of upcoming FATF rules?
https://www.coindesk.com/fatf-crypto-travel-rule

While I'm looking forward for Decred DEX, it sounds like new private transactions is a huge red flag for US-regulated exchanges like Coinbase, Bittrex, Binance US and major part of reliable (read regulated) exchanges.

Your thoughts? Wouldn't this privacy feature kill the poor liquidity completely when regulated exchanges will have to delist all anon coins (deadline mid-Summer 2020)?

It's a very valid point. Let's hope enough liquidity is provided via DEX. Of course, if most centralized/regulated exchanges do delist, volume will be driven to dex's anyway.

Another school of thought is that (long term) centralized exchanges will only be used institutionally, while DEXs will be the mainstream tool for trades.

"My thesis for Decred isn't so much as a Bitcoin destroyer, but it is something that can destroy Litecoin, XRP, Bitcoin Cash and frankly all the other trash that exists in the top 10 on coinmarketcap. I think Decred is massively fundamentally undervalued..."

or just a misunderstanding ...

silly me never learned after 2018 -- and i held cardano and many others -- like a fool --

i want to start fresh and proper !
gembitz is our resident troll. Nothing he says is true, literally nothing. Here's a link where he admits he messed up on his own account and missed the airdrop: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1290358.msg22659558#msg22659558

Decred is 1 of the 2 coins I'm hodling. I keep all of mine staked. It's easy passive income, and no one can take it away from you. Plus, now that Politeia is live, you could use that stake ticket to vote:

It's such a shame he doesn't care more about the principal of a fair distribution of coins through pow (nearly 5 million dcr by now are pow mined).
Why accept that these 5 million dcr went mostly to a few centralized entities (ASIC farms)?

It wasn't always asic. For a long time it was GPU mined. Unfortunately the algo it turned out was possible to dual mine along with eth. So many eth miners could also mine dcr at the same time with little performance loss.

exactly ...

Blake is a wonderful cryptographic algorithm in terms of security. = very important
But Blake as well as keccak or sha256 or any of these "pure/fast" cryptographic hash functions
have one big downfall for coins: VERY bad coin distribution = also very important

so for a coin dev:
the cryptographic hash function is very important (blake = very good)

but for the same coin dev:
shouldn't the "fair" distribution of their coin be a rather big concern (blake = very bad)

Which is why 2 things happened: airdrop of 50% of the premine, and PoS consensus (~2.5 million DCR PoS mined so far). It's all about trade-offs.

bitcoin maximalists know better than you.  Cheesy  ~where my stolen airdrop n00ber?

I encourage you to consult a mental health professional about your online conduct.

seriously fuck off you scammers are going to get banned from America altogether see what happens when you do fraudulent airdrops? :\ hmmm

lol you've been saying that for nearly half a decade now. No bans have happened, none are coming, nothing fraudulent occurred. Do I need to post the link to where you admitted straight up your mistake in not following directions?

poloniex was good a long time ago. Now it's just a crap exchange.
Use binance and bittrex.
Okex and several others are adding decred in the US market, what is the reason poloniex draw decred?
Just a ridiculous attempt at market manipulation or even ignorance.
They rated decred as a security token.
decred isn't a token, it is a coin. And we also didn't have ICO.

I agree that Poloniex used to be better a couple years ago. Now they are going through KYC hell and appear to have lost most of their community trust.

No big loss for DCR since their volume has declined significantly. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7QahFsWkAMcaAV.jpg

Ya, I stopped using polo after they enforced kyc. Bittrex is much more solid.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: May 19, 2019, 07:18:07 PM
Slowly but surely Ethereum is moving in the direction, if it finds stability for the next couple of months hovering between the $300-$325 mark that would be a good start
Yeah crypto market just testing bull run and slow but steadily following uptrend, we can expect ethereum could reach $300 next month or this month too.
History will repeat surely let's see what will happen next! We are still seeing green market and hope so green market keep rising continuously.

Of course we officially entered into bullish phase and current volume is showing how big potential is ahead but that is just beginning of this new cycle surely soon it will get more power and we will see more big figures on the board. At the moment majority of the people just waiting for the right time to enter into this ecosystem and it will make this more interesting.

...no I think the majority of people are waiting for the right time to sell.

Hey people i upgrade my wallet to 14 version and something goes wong i cant understand how much tickets Live on pos, and my total balance is wrong. Like 70% of decred gone somewhere wtf is goin on
and on fuckin explorer it says that my wallets have ZERO dcr wtf
Where i can see real numbers, i hate stupid upgrades my gosh
previous upgrade of decred CANT sync i cant do shit and see real numbers on wallet

Probably you haven't yet downloaded the entire blockchain.
Have you checked if the block number in your wallet is the same as the blockchain? https://dcrstats.com
The update for version 1.4 is mandatory.
There was a fork per vote for implementation of the lightning network and you continued on the wrong fork. If it happens that it stuck on a block before reaching the last one, you will need to re-create the wallet using the seed.

same as on decrstats 345 472 curent tottally same
Before upgrade i was 90% all of dcr in POS, so this decr was locked, but now LOCKED is zero and i lost 70% of dcr somewhere

You need to reinstall the pool api.
Enter your profile in the pos pool you use and in settings copy the api and paste in the wallet, in the tickets tab

Holly shit thanks you man. Fuking upgrades my ass in hell, I almost believe that i lost aroung 5000 dcr

lol np
Just clarifying that this only happened because you took time to make a mandatory update.
If you had done it at the right time, you would just reinstall the new wallet over the other.

Ye, my upgrade to 1.4 was seamless.  Cool
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: May 14, 2019, 10:44:57 PM
ETH keeps going down, what a pussy.

Ethereum is not going down on the USD pair. It is going down on the bitcoin pair and that was expected for every altcoin. This always happens when bitcoin goes parabolic. People always want more bitcoin than altcoins in the end of the day. Altcoins are a vehicle to get more bitcoin.

ETH will probably surpass $200 in a matter of hours - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/ and I cannot understand why the second biggest crypto in the market will go down while others are beginning to feel the effects of bull run that is currently going on? Also, I think ETH has its own strengths as a crypto making it a top contender in crypto dominance.

Because it's not automatic, price movement depends on the traders and investors action, maybe at this time they love to trade other altcoins but we can never loss on our faith in ETH as like you said, it's the number 2 in the market, so it will certainly rise.

Yup! Too many people just expect pairs to rise when btc pumps. It's not a given: traders make the market move.

Won't Decred's Lightning Network compete with Decred's POS? To open channels, and provide liquidity in Lightning, coins must be staked/locked too. Won't this also stagnate the Decred market/economy because the coins are either held, or staked in POS/Lightning?

What do the developers envision Decred? As a medium of exchange or a store of value?

I don't think so, because the PoS system has its own 'economy'. The target ticket pool is 40960, if there's more tickets, the ticket price goes up; if less, ticket price goes down. This means the 'market' determines ticket price. If there's competing incentives for what to do with your coins, I'd imagine the most lucrative at any given time will win the majority of coins. If your scenario begins to play out, I'd expect to see a corresponding drop in ticket price, which ultimately raises the ROI on tickets - leveling out the incentives between open channels and tickets for PoS.

Decred devs were quite clever when they developed this PoS thing...shit's elegant af.  Cheesy Cool
