Network growth will not slow because these things are money printing machines.

Unless price of BTC doubles in short order after halving ( http://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/ ) of Block rewards early adopters are screwing themselves paying these initial asking prices for S9.

Curious to see what the S9 will be selling for in August.

No technically everyone who buys this is screwing themselves, even if BTC price doubles.  If think the doubling will happen (well 400>800) but the point is you'd be better off buying 3.4BTC and HODL rather than spend 3.4BTC to make 2.9BTC back in the future!

Exactly.

Does anyone have any references for a collocation/hosting company in Washington State?  How is Oregon Mines?

Looking at the difficulty graph something really bumped up the diff in February. I wouldn't be surprised if that is when the S9s were starting to be put to work, I mean "tested" for users. Stranger things have happened.
25  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 06, 2016, 01:42:05 PM
After plugging in the numbers into a calculator, and trying to factor in halving I am having a hard time figuring out how to ROI with the S9.  Maybe I am over estimating the impact of halving into the equation.  I even adjusted the BTC valuations up to $1000 USD and then factored the halving into the picture and still no ROI in a year.  So maybe I am doing this wrong.  Thoughts on ROI on the S9 and the impacts of halving?

Correction to my estimate:  Looks like the calculator says that if BTC is $1000 that you could see ROI in 8 months based on the effective TH drop by half.

The potential to ROI is probably better than with the S7 because I doubt we're going to see better chips within the next year. That said, you still might be better off getting a later batch after the halving which is the big elephant in the room.

Don't you have a lisk thread to post this crap?
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: June 02, 2016, 01:01:21 PM

But, you could poke holes in this.  The point is, you could design something outside of the current model to make it worthwhile to run a miner on the outside, if the miner provided something additional.

You mean like video cards...

Haven't we learned yet to just buy the coins and hold.  Even if it takes 2 4 6 years for it to rise.  At least your not competing with diff.  If all holds true price will keep rising as supply shortens.  But the miners don't have life expectancy of much over a couple years.  And they sure aren't  built to last for much more than that.  So that begs to question why keep doing this over and over. Definition of insane is doing the same thing over expecting dif results.  That huge show of force on the network was no fluke.  Everyone speculated with the s7 that network would drop.   And it did what ??  Went to the moon. And the more I look back at it. The increase was 3x. Which aligns nicely with the s9 efficiency. Not the s5>s7.  So it seems maybe they have the s9 sooner and sold us s7 so they could easily squeeze us out.  The game seems well in hands of bitmain for the time being.

Best regards

Yeah I'm thinking they have had these for awhile and were waiting for bitfury.

At this point isn't it wiser to just hold the coin and wait for the price rise rather than risk the hardware bubble popping?

You guys got me on batch one s7. Never again.

32  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]1150$! The group buy of hosted bitmain S7 @4.73T online on 27th Jan!! on: May 19, 2016, 09:12:31 PM
it is also acceptable, i buy all s7 back according to the hosted s7 price on hashnest, currently the s7 price on hashnest is 0.0002/ GHS
so each s7@4730G=0.95 btc

Shoot that BTC over when you get a chance. Thanks for a almost two years of good hosting!

Quick edit: Li sent over the BTC and we're square. Luckily I have not had the issues some have had and can say only good things about my experience with Li the past two years. Keep in mind I used F2pool and that certainly contributed to the stability and uptime I'm sure.

Anyone interested in buying some Lee hosted S7s? Let me know.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: May 11, 2016, 02:35:46 AM
The difficulty has resumed its upward trend. It is a new all time high of 34.9T. When the new efficient GPU cards come out, it will be even higher.

If the difficulty doubles again from here, most people in Europe and California will not be profitable in mining.

...and then the difficulty drops hurray!
35  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: May 10, 2016, 12:33:58 PM
Oh it's real, the next Diff jump is freaking huge and I bet the one after that will be equally huge until people start turning off the old gear.
36  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: May 10, 2016, 12:11:10 AM
I've been using bitmain for awhile now, and I have to agree with the guys above- BitFury is just a strip tease.

I don't know how any self respecting company can be two months late and have no publicly given reason as to why.

Because the emperor has no clothes.
37  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: May 10, 2016, 12:07:08 AM
It's probably true, look at the huge jump in difficulty recently. We're looking at 8% next.

I'm beginning to believe there is a next gen rig out now for the same reason.

If they do in fact have a next gen rig in operation now, do not expect it to be available to the masses until AFTER the halving.  It's only logical they will take advantage of the gains to be made between now and the halving with a next gen rig.  I would if I were in their shoes.

looks to me they emptied the racks they have of s-7 and put in new gear.

so 100ph using  25-30  megawatts is now 180ph using the same 25-30 megawatts .

They will do this til the ½ ing then sell the s-9 to the rest of us.

Yep I think about the same but they will sell it right before the halving to maximize the price they can get for them.

Nano is more power efficient than the R9 390. But its ROI dates are much longer than the 390. So it depends on your power price.

Yeah but if you're also a gamer running two water cooled nanos is awesome!
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: May 04, 2016, 07:29:08 PM
But the Ethereum difficulty is still rising, and it is rising very fast. So in a few weeks, not many people will make profit.
The eth mining is still profitable for dig but by day by diff higer. we will see , what will we do...

That is true. The difficulty is another all time high today. So only the people with cheap electricity can mine next month.

I long for the day the 2GB cards can no longer mine.
