21  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cautious of the Web on open source on: May 14, 2024, 11:42:20 PM
It's not enough if someone can't understand the source code though. For instance, some projects may share the source code of some parts of their software but not the whole thing which could give a false impression to some folks not in the know. If the project is shady, they could try to pass the whole as open source and see if unsuspecting folks will fall for it.

For people who can't understand the code, unfortunately, we have to trust the community. IMO, it's crucial that it should've been left open sourced for long periods so there's a good chance more people have taken a look. How popular the project is, is also a variable at play.
22  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Canada fines binance $4.38mln for money laundering violations? on: May 14, 2024, 10:11:48 PM
paying the money isn't the problem with them but what about the trust, will the people at Canada still have the trust they had after binance facing their consequences that's what should come to their minds. Cause their people profiting from them everyday but hearing this, okay just as you said they have also come across the line with this same issue or situation before. Then another one with Canadian it's not a good news but if only they settled this, they'll still repeat it again and the customers won't have 100% trust anymore. So I don't think the money is an issue to binance but if only it won't occurs more again.

100% trust would be pretty bad though. If this is what it takes for people to stop it, then it's a good news lol. Binance is a custodial platform hence there should be plenty of room for doubts at all times.

But to be honest, if we're just talkin about people being confident enough to use them -- the bare minimum -- I'm not sure it will leave a huge dent. It does appear binance has so much hold on folks as they appear to he holding pretty well along with BNB or people's risk appetite is bonkers in general lol. As others have mentioned, this isn't binance's first run. Perhaps people have been desentisized as well since this witch hunt has been goin on for long -- tbh, it just feels like another day to me.

It would be interesting to know if the people who left binance due to their country restriction would have done the same had there been little to no restriction imposed.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day 2024 on: May 14, 2024, 08:15:36 PM
Probably will grab a pizza or I'll just check out what other people are doing online lol -- latter is most likely though

I sill think of it as a big milestone and objectively a fun event to commemorate. But as an adult, I've noticed yearly events could get anti-climatic over time e.g. birthdays, etc.so I've been preferring simple stuff for celebrations.

I wish you good luck though @op. Do update us whenever you can!

What day is it?

if it's the pizza day, it's on May 22nd
24  Economy / Gambling / Re: MetaWin.com | The First WEB3 Casino on: May 12, 2024, 11:50:18 PM
Lol they're on a spree

They're also thinking of expanding their brand to Exchanges  Shocked

Pretty big thing to venture IMO + they have a lot of other things going on like rocky, mwin token, sportsbook. Maybe skel is indeed a billionaire like what the rumors say lol. I guess for an owner of a relatively long running crypto casino, it's not a stretch.

Btw this is tricky, if Metawin owner likes football, then we might see Rocky listed on Bitget at first because of Messi but on the other hand, Bybit is more popular than Bitget.

About time I suggest my hidden card... try to do a coinflip and leave it to luck lmao -- e.g. heads for bitget and tails for bybit 🤣 jkjk
25  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losing all your fortune with just 3 years on: May 12, 2024, 10:20:17 PM
If it was pure addiction then yeah, the fault lies among the gambler. But it seems like this addiction was under the influence of alcohol, and trusting the article, it seems like the Casino law itself states that it's not allowed.

From the article:
Quote
Now he has filed a civil suit, claiming casino staff regularly plied him with alcohol and painkillers in order to keep him gambling. Casino rules and state law both say anyone who is visibly intoxicated should not be allowed to gamble.

It's a good law. It should be common sense people aren't gonna be making sound decisions if they're high AF. Thing is, not every casino will follow it as we have seen in this case, the same way not every player will report it once they notice such scenario.

But sadly, the casino in question was only fined for a measly amount. I don't think this made a dent on them especially if we compare it to the amount Watanabe lost.

and Caesar’s Entertainment was fined $225,000 in March 2013 by regulators for not stopping Watanabe from gambling when visibly intoxicated.

27  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fraudulent e mail on: May 12, 2024, 09:15:07 PM
What concerned me about this e mail was that whoever it was seemed to have inside knowledge about the state of my account

What made you think so BTW? was it because they mentioned coinbase? because there's a good chance it's pretty random and they just happen to hit a bullseye with you. Scammers typically mass send scam emails to thousands of people so it's not impossible the email would be sent out to several people who happens to have an account at the platform in question.

From my experience, I happen to have gotten both kinds: phishing emails about a service I actually have an account and those where I've never touched lol but tbf, I think it's only a matter of time for everyone to experience the same.
28  Economy / Gambling / Re: MetaWin.com | The First WEB3 Casino on: May 12, 2024, 07:47:22 PM
I just check other exchange X account and I found out that Skel following Bybit too but the rest of the exchange on the choices is not being followed by Skel so our choices narrowed down between Bitget and Bybit. Nice findings on the exchange he is following, typically the team follow the exchange in advance when they plan to cooperate with them in the future.

Ohhhh new follow! idk when did the bitget happened but this is def new since it wasn't there last I checked. It's nice that there are more stuff to based on for our guess -- makes it more fun even though luck will be playing a huge part.

Have you posted your entry? i ended up going with bitget lol but I posted mine before this new bybit information lol.

It can be listing on both exchanges, not only one.  Cheesy

Yeah, it's possible both exchanges are involved but Eternad likely had the first CEx guessing game contest in mind.

RE: reviews

Trustpilot sucks though. I almost always ignore them lol.

I guess because of their popularity, there are more people complaining about you-problems. Further, it's also true that there is a buying and selling market for it. Most importantly, I've also seen a lot of reputable platforms (in general) that has poor metrics on trustpilot.

But reviews are still useful for me, just depends on who writes them. For instance, if it's btcgosu or a reputable member on the forum, them I'm inclined to believe them.

May 7: Nigeria to Ban Person-to-Person Crypto Trade in Dented Naira
Here we go again. Nigeria had become one of the major hubs for crypto and with good reason. People earn very little for a living but even that amount of money gets lost if they keep it in the local currency, Naira.

So obviously, the binance removing NAIRA in their platform did not work so now they're trying to launch a mass ban on p2p lol what's next? because this one will not work as well. From what I heard from a local, the previous admin also blamed another platform for their falling currency 🥱

I guess they selected crypto as the scapegoat because of the stigma around it esp with all the crackdowns happening... I sure hope most locals don't buy this bs.
31  Economy / Gambling / Re: MetaWin.com | The First WEB3 Casino on: May 11, 2024, 09:32:27 PM
First cex listing is getting there

Just noticed metawin founder only follows bitget out of all the choices in the promo. I did follow couple of altcoin projects and saw founders follow platforms they're involved with 🤔

But it's also possible the following happened before rocky lol or it's for other reasons.

32  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Reliable, low fee(s) exchange on: May 10, 2024, 11:45:27 PM
Binance.com is not available to US due to SEC. Binance.us is not working as far as I can tell. Can't even sign up. IF it's in fact inferior, VPN to binance.com? Or any other suggestions?

I'm a firefox user and it worked fine on my end -- used a US IP on my test.

If I have to guess, perhaps it has to do with your state? Lemme quote it in case it doesn't load properly for you lol

Unfortunately, Binance.US services are currently NOT available to customers who reside in the following states/regions:

    Alaska
    American Samoa
    Hawaii
    Maine
    New York
    Northern Mariana Islands
    Texas
    U.S. Virgin Islands
    Vermont

New user onboarding is temporarily paused in the following states/regions. Existing customers who reside in these states/regions may continue to use Binance.US:

    Connecticut
    Florida
    Georgia
    North Carolina
    Ohio
    Oregon
    Minnesota
    Washington

Otherwise, it could be your browser extension/s? try disabling them if any.

Unfortunately, VPN won't work on binance.COM because identity verification is mandatory. I'm not from US so IDK a better alternative but def check out the big players (coinbase, kraken, gemini). TBH, US residents don't have many choices thanks to SEC.
33  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Recommended slot game provider for newbie on: May 10, 2024, 11:09:43 PM
Yeah, I definitely looking for slot game provider that has a better slot game experience for newbie since some provider focus on high volatility slots with their games which is very brutal for newbie as starter slot games.

Maybe you'll like games from hacksaw gaming then? They're quite popular so you may have heard of them already.

A lot of their slots sits in the middle in terms of volatility -- you can check this on their website or if you're planning on playing on metawin, they have this stat as well. Base bets are typically at $.1 too.

First cex listing is getting there

Which did you all picked? (for fun)

I was torn between bitget and mexc lol -- pretty much wanted either a neutral leaning choice vs imo the easiest to get in choice. I'm not that familiar with bingx so wasn't able to consider them.

Kucoin or bybit would be the ideal choices though popularity-wise.
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Non custodial wallet is not for the weak on: May 10, 2024, 08:52:23 PM
While there are truly people who struggle with technology, there are some who are just lazy as well lols.

The good thing about learning how to keep safe your bitcoins is you also get to check in with your personal cyber security in general. TBH, before crypto, mine was shit lol. For instance, i was saving sensitive information on a goddamn notepad lol and has installed relatively unknown programs on the same device I do important tasks lol.
36  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin Scoring Tool: Seeking Your Valuable Feedback! on: May 10, 2024, 07:45:23 PM
I tried a random address from the website.

I'm curious why does an unknown category get to have a medium risk level? if it's unknown, how do we know it's at medium level? or is it not actually 'unknown'?

37  Economy / Gambling / Re: BET.OLIVETITAN.COM - FAIR, P2P, 2of3 MULTISIG BETTING EXCHANGE | USING ELECTRUM on: May 09, 2024, 10:39:13 PM
Don't take this the wrong way but your infographic makes me a bit dizzy, feels like the letters were moving slightly lol. Maybe it's because of the shadows in a high contrast black background? -- cmiiw. If you're up for it, you may wanna consider hiring a graphic designer for your ANN thread, see list: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5406507.0

BTW, what do you mean by "cryptographically can't exit scam" it's interesting to say the least, how does this work? could we also verify this?

38  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Nearly All FTX Creditors Will Get 118% of Their Funds Back in Cash on: May 09, 2024, 10:24:34 PM
So in other words, FTX got lucky the crypto market pumped -- from leftover holdings and investments. Ofc, they had other assets to liquidate but from the looks of it, crypto played a major role. It's worth noting as well that the claimants will only get the dollar value of the funds lost at the time FTX went bankrupt sooo had they kept their crypto self-custodied, they probably would have profited more.

But this is much better than getting scraps. I just hope it doesn't improve FTX's reputation in the crypto space and eventually start the business again...
39  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What's Causing The Decline In Web Traffic Of Most CEX Exchanges? on: May 09, 2024, 09:33:28 PM
I don't buy any kind of funds assurance from these exchanges lol. At the end of the day, it's a custodial wallet and not your keys, not your bitcoins.

But this most likely has to do with the BTC price decline however, it's nothing new during a downtrend. We should see a traffic surge once again when the market has become extremely bullish just like what happened in previous bull runs.

Perhaps people whose place were restricted from binance took a refuge on those few exchanges that had an increased traffic -- just a guess.
40  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Peoples expectations about casinos free spins on: May 09, 2024, 08:47:21 PM
I've only won few bucks with them unfortunately.

But I don't view them as an easy free money as you need some luck on this hence the people who won something significant on this deserves it. As from a casino perspective, they protect themselves by imposing a wager requirement plus I'd say most people lose so they're most def not at a disadvantage. The promo also have a good chance of bringing regulars!
