801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: low-cost hardware wallet for less than 10 dollars on: May 24, 2023, 11:34:36 PM
Nice work! Looks interesting.

But since it's basically a jade HW, I'm guessing we still have to rely on their whatnot oracle for our PIN?

I was actually one step away from buying jade until I read the device comminicates to a server for the PIN as I prefer a more closed off HW.
802  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Hotbit stops operation on: May 23, 2023, 11:53:05 PM
and Last is this, it seems BTC, USDT and ETH Withdraw button has been disabled

Bit confused. Is this from hotbit or from the exchange you first talked about?
803  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Nunchuk wallet on: May 23, 2023, 11:34:40 PM
Personally, I do not think highly of wallets who encourages and utilizes (for profits) cloud backups because it is either you don't get the weight of it or you're taking advantage of people who do not know any better.

There are a lot of bitcoin wallets out there which essentially gives us room to be picky. Therefore when it comes to reputation, I'd also consider how one does their business or should I say their ethics? especially if I wanna prevent ledger-styled surprises lol.

In short, my take is, find an alternative first for your use case. Now, if you must use this, keep the amount small.
804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger Confirmed That Government Can Get Access To Your Fund on: May 23, 2023, 10:56:33 AM
The current sitting CEO has also confirmed this in a podcast - there's a short clip in the link:

NEW: 🚨Ledger CEO "The only concern is if we get subpoenaed by a government" 😱👀

Although he tried to downplay it by saying it's not a real concern, we all know how hostile the governments are/can be to cryptocurrencies hence you never know + this breaks the concept of self-custody.

Why should people pay to get additional risk on their way?
805  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Wallet software on: May 23, 2023, 05:25:55 AM
I feel like we are missing some information from you, op. What do you want them to/not to find?

What I can say is, ciphertrace is a blockchain analysis company therefore, it is safe to say they have far more better resources when it comes to tracing transactions as oppose to average users/tools especially when one tries to obfuscate their tracks.
806  Economy / Exchanges / Re: With these acts, do we still believe in Centralized Exchanges? on: May 22, 2023, 11:40:37 PM
2. Can we trust them with our money even as all those recent ones are given room for the users to withdraw their funds?
3. And can we depend on this opportunity to allow users to withdraw their funds and keep trusting them?

Of course not. Let's take your example - hotbit for instance. Yes, they are giving people time to withdraw but it's only for a month. This time frame is simply too short for most if not everyone to be able to withdraw everything. Since people's money are already on their pocket, we are almost always at their mercy.

Not to mention, sometimes situation could get worse with CEx's e.g. hacking/exit scam where it's possible you won't have any chance of getting everything back.

Dabbling into CEx is just picking the lesser evil and setting up preventive measures. Don't even think about giving them your full trust.
807  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Hotbit stops operation on: May 22, 2023, 09:57:06 PM
1 month is too short, not everyone will be able to withdraw... but perhaps that's what they wanted. It's possible they don't have enough funds to cover everything mainly due to the frozen assets from last year which they haven't gotten back.

!remind me to check back few days after to see if people are experiencing issues when trying to get their funds out.
808  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need guides from the community? on: May 21, 2023, 11:23:20 PM
It doesn't look like OP is asking if they can full time on cryptocurrency but instead, this was about looking for a general full time job as oppose to the part time job they have which is more fragile. Ofc, full time is better than part time especially if you have an unstable hustle such as trading.

I'm not sure what specific accounting background you have OP but if I were to give a blanket answer, I'd say people with finance backgrounds have an edge in financial literacy
as oppose to average people. Success or nah? we would need some sort of supernatural power to confidently say so.
809  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Effects of Binance Changing Wallet Addresses on: May 21, 2023, 10:18:43 PM
As long as binance give people an ample time to settle in, it's fine for me.

People who will be affected once they start nuking the 'click to credit' function - hopefully not soon - are probably those using centralized/custodial exchanges the wrong way. For instance, using it as a means of storage, saving addresses in 'contacts' or some sort and not cross-checking with the exchange, etc. hence it's likely problems will occur even if this didn't happen.

But I still think a one size fits all expiration date is a lot better than per batch dates which could cause further confusion to some, similar to what happened when they implemented mandatory KYC.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger Confirmed That Government Can Get Access To Your Fund on: May 21, 2023, 09:16:00 PM
...though I tried to do some research to ascertain the validity of this information, that is, to try and get the real source of the information (since it was not shared on the telegram post) to make sure it's authentic, but all efforts proved abortive since I am not sure about the social media the screenshot was taken from - here is the shot..

Though like I said earlier, I've not been able to verify the authenticity of this information, but then, if this information be true, then I think we all should be very careful with ledger devices - privacy wise.
Their Former CEO (2014-2019) has indeed said this. To clear doubts, this is the post link:

If you are a Recover user and have your shard into safeguarded by third parties, then yes, a government could subpoeana them and get access to your funds.

Using Recover gives you an easy recovery option and mitigates backup loss, but your assets could get frozen by the government (in theory, I'm not a lawyer and I didn't see any legal opinon on the subject).

If you go to u/murzika's profile, you'll see he's the one of the mods on r/ledgerwallet and has the "Former Ledger Chairman and Co-Founder" flair on his posts.

It is too late for ledger as major trust has been broken ever since they announced cloud backups. It's pretty clear they rather prioritize profits over their users security. Unfortunately for them, not everyone does not know what they're doing.
811  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ethmine.xyz FAKE CLOUD MINING on: May 20, 2023, 11:55:26 PM
Also, it can be a good idea to start messaging them to break their balls as much as we can.

And why not…any Interpol office, FBI, or whatever …why they don’t track this guys and go and catch them?

They are smart but it can be easy to do it with their resources.

Track IP and phone numbers, cant be so difficulty.

Why they don’t do that?

That’s another question to solve out.

Where are the institutions that protect us??

Sad to say, it's not all about justice like what we see in the movies.

Authorities do not have unlimited resources hence big fishes are almost always prioritized. In addition, they return better incentives as opposed to small time scammers. I'm not saying you should give up on reporting because who knows they could a be part of a big ring or smth but it is best to not expect immediate action from them as it's more likely to be inboxed.

A careful scammer could also try to obfuscate their tracks which includes masking their real IP, using disposable phone numbers etc. hence it's difficult to say whether one case would use much less resources from the other.
812  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: EXODUS + criptointercambio.com = SCAM (hold funds 350 000$) on: May 11, 2023, 02:26:24 AM
Please suggest attorneys who can sue them and recover damages from them.

You'd need to reveal your country for people to suggest. It'll also be easier if you're in the same place as the company you're suing.

Otherwise, you could probably find directories thru search engines. Some places have bar associations where you could get a referral as well. At the very least, I'd say you should get someone who's familiar with crypto/isn't hostile with it.
813  Other / Archival / Re: Sinbad.io Mixer - secure, fast and easy to use on: May 11, 2023, 01:35:18 AM
Hiperlink stopped working after about 36 hours after the beginning of the mix, it returns 404 now. But just after the transaction was sent the page showed me my transaction though with 0 confirmations. After the tx was confirmed I wasn't able to check the status.

Oh okay, just wanted to make sure.

When I used them, the hyperlink for my session became inaccessible when I've already gotten my btcs in my wallet. Looks like your session was mistakenly treated as completed or something - a guess.

I've added the link and the guarantee letter in the letter that I sent to your email (from the site): support@sinbad.io. Why can't you just check the inbox? All the relevant information is there.
I've already contacted your support by telegram either and still nothing.
It seems that you're not really interested in solving this issue? My funds're gone

In this forum, only the account sinbad.io could directly help you. Other people could at best provide insights or direct you to right places.

I noticed that the clearnet website is returning me a connection timeout error. Apparently the error is from the host (sinbad.io) but Cloudflare and the browser are just fine.

The Tor mirror is still OK though.

Honestly, sinbad should see to it that updates are posted when problems occur so people won't be playing guessing games...

My guess is they also have/had backlog issues as I see them bumping the minimum mix amount + withdrawal fee.
814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On location with broken phone; How to pay? (Bitcoin, Monero, or ectc.) on: May 10, 2023, 10:10:45 AM
Some of the people above have indeed read it that way. In my initial post, I added the following sentence:
Quote
I mean the above, assuming that Bitcoin or Monero has become mainstream, commonly used money in society; That paying in cash is no longer an option.

I would rather spend time on prevention!

Some suggestions:

1. The good old pay attention to your surroundings
2. Set aside backup device/s
3. Consider buying rugged smartphones
4. Buy a phone case aimed for extra protection/improves grip
5. Setting aside one or two paper wallets with small amounts could be good as well
815  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coin Stats Alerts on: May 09, 2023, 11:30:50 PM
Did you try toggling the "Alert Frequency" and/or "Sensitivity"? perhaps it is too low for your use case?

...Choose alert frequency (how many times)

After enabling the alert, you can choose Low, Medium, or High sensitivity. For example, suppose you wish to get many notifications and always be up to date, even with minor changes. In that case, you can set the sensitivity to high so CoinStats can constantly notify you about the changes.

I haven't seen any alerts history or some sort either.

Side note: Lmk if I did not get the app right lol
816  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Off-chain mixers on: May 09, 2023, 10:02:02 PM
However I wonder  Huh  why service like ChipMix was so popular since the chip appeared to be just a private keys.

Probably because these private keys contained dated UTXOs. For instance, if I deposit bitcoins today, I could get UTXOs from weeks ago instantly.

In mixing, it's good to have a good gap between your deposit and withdrawal. Competitors either let you withdraw instantly or have you choose to delay your withdrawal depending on the set of choices given (e.g up to a week) which means you'd have to wait. With CM, you could get a gap instantly and it's before your deposit = less extra step. Since people withdraw private keys, they could also set their own time better before sweeping.

The set your own fee plus good reputation were definitely up there too.
817  Other / Archival / Re: Sinbad.io Mixer - secure, fast and easy to use on: May 09, 2023, 12:12:02 AM
I've been researching mixers today and comparing their features when I come up to sinbad and this is what I saw in their website. Are they a scam?

https://i.imgur.com/gKZKhMk.jpeg

Lol i thought you were on a phishing website but turns out you're not as I'm seeing the same thing on their clearnet. It looks like a template, they could be revamping the website or smth..

Meanwhile, TOR version looks fine. I've not tried depositing though.

1) Yes, i copied the address from this thread
2) The transaction was confirmed with a delay (about 30 hours) because of low fee. I increased the fee twice during this period. But now the transaction is confirmed many times.

Did you happen to save your session hyperlink? if so, could you take a look at the status? if the confirmations were registered or nah.

In any case, we would need sinbad's intervention.
818  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best 2FA applications to use. Open source, free, secure. Better than Google's on: May 07, 2023, 11:13:21 PM
Was this the reason for Binance announcement regarding the use of 2fa and disabling it. Ive read it somewhere their announcement maybe on Twitter but that means there something Google arent doing well here. So far I am only using Google 2fa but will look into other choices.

If the announcement is recent, probably has to do with the sync function as mentioned above. This created buzz couple of days ago especially when two researchers found google could technically access the secret keys if you enable the function.

Found something new, anyway, I am using the Google authenticator as most of the time this was the only one I knew haha.

Lol. I was the same until people recommended aegis and this is probably true for a lot of people into crypto when they just started.

I may have diligently followed exchange's instructions a little bit too much as they tend to only use google authenticator for their help articles/instructions. I can't remember which but I vaguely recall an exchange referring to TOTP/authenticator apps as "Google Authenticator" on the settings lol.
819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how bitcoin received in couple of seconds? on: May 07, 2023, 10:00:31 PM
New transactions will reflect instantly on wallets however it will be unconfirmed. The wallet used for receiving had many transactions tagged as "pending" and only one is with confirmations so it's likely it could be the case.

Both devices had a wallet with different UI so I don't think the transfer was done within an exchange.
820  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Haults All Bitcoin Withdrawals !! on: May 07, 2023, 08:30:06 PM
A sign of relief after reading this tweet
Quote
$BTC withdrawals are now resumed on #Binance.

Hmmm? the mempool was and is still as clogged as before though. Congestion looks like an excuse to mask there was something wrong on their end lol.
