Thinking the same thang. Seems like they would be awesome but by using these BFL's, how much longer till the last bicoin will be generated?

Doesn't matter if the network hash rate gradually diminishes to 10 kh/s or if it suddenly spikes to over 9000 TH/s.  The last coin mined will fall on relatively the same date.

Neither of those pics are 7990 per the article and the slides.

I had to re-read the 2nd paragraph because the way the article is written is really confusing.  Apparently Dave Erskine (who I guess is a senior media-relations guy at AMD) says that the triple-fan card that's being displayed is a forthcoming dual-GPU product.  If it's not the 7990, I'm unaware of any other dual-GPU board that AMD has coming out soon.

Interesting they're not going with the customary centrifugal fan.

In addition to showing off AMD's future roadmaps, Mark Papermaster showed off a cool triple-fan professional graphics card called the FirePro W9000. The card is detailed in the slide shown below and is meant to be a professional version of the 7970. Curiously enough, however, is the fact that the card he held up and the card in the slide appear very different.

Cyril Kowaliski of TechReport noticed the difference as well and put a call into AMD's Dave Erskine to get an answer. Erskine would only say that it was a "dual-GPU product that will be released later this year." Taking a good educated guess, I would say that the card is most likely a 7970x2 (7990?), or in other words, two 7970 chips on one PCB.

After all, AMD has to compete with NVIDIA's dual-Kepler beast, the GTX 690. AMD has been making dual-GPU consumer cards for something like 4 generations now (3870x2) and were rumored to be debuting one at Computex. That debut never occurred, but it seems unlikely that they wouldn't produce a dual-7970 card. The release time frame also indicates that it should be of the Tahiti flavor.
205  Economy / Lending / Re: 60 BTC loan on: June 14, 2012, 11:25:04 PM
Since he repaid the principal it is my opinion (which can be ignored) that interest extra interest only calculated on the money that is still loaned to Dank. You cannot charge interest on money that has already been repaid and consider yourself fair imo.

I agree.  That's how it works with bank loans anyway.
206  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Powercolor 7990 on: June 13, 2012, 05:09:53 AM
What do you guys think would be the hash speed of a 7990, if it came out anyway?
My guess is double the 7970 - seems logical - or about 1.4GHash/s. Seems pretty beefy, for now.

700MH/s per core (at least on a 7970) is with a pretty hefty overclock. I'd say a 7990 couldn't handle the power of 2 cores OC'd that much, not to mention that heat! I'd say prolly closer in the 1000-1200MH/s range, at decent thermal levels.

Gotta also remember that AMD is gunning for the GTX690, so heat be damned.  They'll find a way to be competitive with nVidia.  If that means beefier components, then so much the better for miners.
207  Economy / Lending / Re: 1-10 mil usd BTC loan request on: June 12, 2012, 08:59:42 PM
For $10M I get a "whole house and yard".

Just yesterday I was commenting on how there was no established mechanism to turn giant piles of cash into real estate property.

You just solved it.   I know tons of homeless people with millions of dollars.  I mean you can't sleep inside a giant pile of money.

($10M) -> Dank -> ? ? ? -> House AND Yard.

Dude I would have been happy with just the House.  You really should ask for $15M if the person wants a yard too.
What do you want?  Beautiful house, yard and 20 million?  Nice car?

I bet you I could buy the entire village where I live for 5 million or less lol
And then what?

Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.

209  Economy / Lending / Re: NO INTEREST LOAN! on: June 08, 2012, 04:29:01 PM
New scammer tactic:

1. Make an account
2. Head straight to Lending
3. Offer trivial loans
4. Ask for 50+ BTC loan two weeks later
210  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Powercolor 7990 on: June 08, 2012, 02:12:01 AM
Yes but I think AMD has given up with 7990 as it cannot compete with GTX 690 at any rate ( gaming / perf ) and mining is small marketshare and they also had thermal issues trying to cool so much heat with only one fan.

Hope I am wrong !

Unfortunately I think you're right.  If they haven't announced it at Computex by now, they're probably not going to at all.  I mean why wait til the 2nd to last day of Computex to showcase it?
211  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Post Your Mining Rig Efficiency on: June 07, 2012, 09:39:16 PM
No more mining for me.  I make roughly 1850 MH/s worth of BTC per week now, @ 0 Watts.  Suck it, FPGA/ASICs Tongue
212  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [DEAL] - Newegg Diamond HD 7970 on: June 07, 2012, 05:56:52 PM
That is not really a deal ... but thanks.

You've seen a cheaper one that's not used?

Not for that specific 7970, but I've seen them for $405 a couple months ago at NewEgg.
213  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970!!!!!!! on: June 06, 2012, 08:12:41 PM
now where are we going to find power supplies with enough 8pin connectors!
If you put 4 of these in a mining rig, you need 12 8pin connectors!

4 cards 2 500W each? Good luck finding a 2000W PSU.

Even undervolted, you're still looking at a 1200W continuous draw...

IIRC 7970s draw about 150W while mining on air, and 100W on water, per GPU.

Computex 2012 - I'm sitting here in the famous house of our reviewer Shane Baxtor (who is one of the best guys you'll ever meet btw) and I look to my left, I look to my right, heck, I can walk into his kitchen and there's SAPPHIRE gear everywhere. More exciting is seeing some gear in person, at Nangang today we checked out SAPPHIRE's huge demos where multi-monitors and GPUs were being shown off.

I'll keep the details low on this, and just let this post make itself with pictures - check out the 5-screen portrait mode setup. This is something I want to crank at home. There's also a 6-screen portrait setup, and wait for it... a 12-screen setup. Yes, that's 12, as in 2 more than 10 and 11 more than 1. 12 screens in portait, I put my finger to my wrist to make sure blood was stil pumping through my veins and I had not died and gone to heaven. SAPPHIRE, I bow to you.

Another thing that caught our eye was SAPPHIRE's HD 7770 Ultimate, which is a passively-cooled GPU. Yes, no fans so this thing is completely, 100-percent silent. Apart from the screams of joy you'll do when you're using this thing.

Why not buy the Powercolor if you want these monsters ?

The HIS one looks downright stupid :

-no 1100 MHz red nuclear button
-2 fans instead of 3
-2 fans that have to be RMAd when they die instead of user removable like on the Powercolor

Waiting for reference 7990s because these are for gamers by the looks of things. Too expensive ...

Yeah, no doubt.  The Powercolor 7970x2 looks a lot more classy.

HIS world's first with Radeon HD 7970 X2

Computex 2012 - Around about an hour ago HIS showed off its brand new AMD Radeon HD 7970 X2 video card to a select group of media including TweakTown.

This is as far as we know the world's first dual GPU Radeon 7970 video card. The sample we were shown is an engineering sample and it still a little while off going on sale, but it shouldn't be too far away. With AMD's Radeon HD 7990 not all that far away, HIS would want to speed things up and deliver their X2 to the market as soon as possible.

The video card features a new and improved IceQ X2 cooler to cool the two onboard GPUs. The cooler is massive, one of the biggest we've seen for a while and that's saying a lot with the latest batch of video cards hitting the market with big and impressive coolers. The cooler will take up three slots, but obviously offer a crazy amount of performance.

There are a total of three 8-pin power connectors and on the I/O side of things there are four mini DisplayPort connectors and a single DVI.

Gigabyte Ultra Durable 5 mobo

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/24423/gigabyte_launches_ultra_durable_5_at_computex_shows_much_lower_temperatures_on_video/index.html

Quote
Computex 2012 - Besides Thunderbolt, the other big thing for GIGABYTE at Computex 2012 is Ultra Durable 5. The Ultra Durable name has been going strong for the Taiwanese motherboard maker for many years now. Ultra Durable basically stands for the high quality parts that GIGABYTE decide to place on its motherboard that try to make their boards stand out from the competition in terms of stability, life, cooling and more.

The latest addition to the series Ultra Durable 5 adds single package "power stage". It's different from a regular and traditional MOSFET in that the solution from IR (the PowIRstage IR3550) combines all of the parts into a single package chip. Usually the driver IC, high side and low side MOFSETS are separate individually chips. The IR3550 is able to deliver 60 amps of power were power stage chip and is said to deliver and much cooler, cleaner and efficient power supply.

The results really do speak for themselves as you can see in the video above. GIGABYTE had some competitor boards on display that use a traditional 6 phase and 8 phase power design. All systems on display were configured with the exact same hardware and settings with all except the middle boards running the CPU at 100% load. The middle board had a 90% load. You can see from the results yourself that the new power stage feature on GIGABYTE's Ultra Durable 5 makes a really big difference when it comes to the operating temperature of the power area when under load.

We are yet to see what other board makers will release at Computex or what surprises they may be holding onto, but so far we are really impressed with the new batch of motherboards to be released by GIGABYTE at Computex. One board has already received our first Computex 2012 Recommended Award.

OCZ's PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 1200-watt PSU shows up at Computex

Computex 2012 - Yesterday on Day 1 of Computex we stopped by the OCZ suite at the TICC where naturally the American company was showing off its full range of consumer and enterprise solid state solutions. Chris is going to give you some updates on that department of products a little later on, but SSDs is not the only thing that OCZ sell.

In the corner of the room we spotted the PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 1200-watt PSU. This is OCZ's most beefiest power supply solution currently and it looks the goods with a lot of the features we like to see in a PSU checked off. It's a 80 Plus Platinum rated unit with up to 1200 watts of power. It is a modular unit with PC Power & Cooling's unique modular system which is said to provide better and more stable electrical connectivity than regular plastic modular plugs.

It impressed us enough to be one of the few products we've seen at Computex 2012 so far to receive our TweakTown Computex 2012 Recommended Award for products that we like and think will do well. We look forward to putting it through the paces in our full review a little later on.
