201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Ether Pre-Sale Begins on: February 13, 2014, 09:29:39 PM
MOD NOTE:
You're not actually buying Ether if you do this, you're buying Ether that they say they will buy in the future then transfer to you.  You run the risk of losing your money if you do this.

https://peercover.com/#/simpleGateway

Peercover is now offering Ether forwards. We allow people to deposit BTC and trade ETH on the Ripple protocol before ETH is dished out.

Essentially you send us BTC and we issue ETH for you to trade on the 60k trader strong Ripple protocol. When the fundraiser begins we forward the BTC to Ethereum and allow people to withdraw the ETH when it becomes available.

We had our first deposits today and are liquid with ~6000 ETH on the open market.

There are many advantages to doing ETH forwards:

1) traders and investors may have access to tradable assets prior to, during and after any fundraiser and speculate on ETH and vicariously the Ethereum project.

2) we provide a simple way to obtain and track ETH assets while Ethereum's methodology of distribution will be more complex and non liquid with no exchange at the beginning.

3) we may even be able to get bulk discounts on ETH with bulk BTC saved up from forwards and pass on these savings to the holders of the forwards.

@Wangbus, teasup

Was theymos able to see any of you NDA'd code/portfolio?

+1

Please link us to anything you can, I don't think there's been any sort of portfolio work posted.

@wangbus

Maybe you can help answer some questions from the OP

Quote
How are you sure Wangbus is able to accomplish this task? Have you seen any work that he is done, and if so can that work be made public?

Why does his company not have a website? Has he ever done any projects before?

Do you have a legal contract with Wangbus and if you do would you be willing to make it public?

Did slickage accept BTC or fiat? Can we see the transaction in the blockchain?

Thanks!

Yea... report to mod should definitely not trigger the posting limit, definitely discourages reporting posts.  I never realized it did that.

Hopefully theymos sees this thread.

I like it OP, adding this to the bottom of my sticky.

lol, I am surprised to see tysat here Smiley

Of course I'm here! Grin

How else could I moderate this section?  Though it definitely requires a lot less now that people can go straight to the alt-coin section.

209  Other / Meta / Re: Account Hacked on: February 12, 2014, 07:42:20 PM
Had my account hacked.

Account Name: PyroTekNeks

Now they're making threads posing as me.
Has tons of neg reviews now.

What to do, what to do?
I really doubt there's any "real" support on the site.

Contact an admin they should be able to do something. In the meantime maybe leave a negative feedback comment on your account explaining the situation.

Edit: Just checked the feedback and whatever has happened the feedback is justified as clearly they're sockpuppets.
I really, really appreciate the response, but I'm not sure who's the admin to contact around here.

theymos is the guy to contact, but it may take a little while to get a response (if you do ever get one)

Who is the owner of the BTC collected by the forum?

I've answered this many times.

I control most of the money. I consider it my responsibility to appropriately manage this money for the non-profit benefit of the forum, Bitcoin, and the world. I take this responsibility seriously. However, I retain sole control over how the money is spent. No one has any right to influence my decisions, though I can be convinced by reasonable arguments.

The rest of the money is held by treasurers bound by the treasury agreements. Under the treasury agreements, I have a lot of decision-making power, but I can be over-ruled in some cases.

Again, talk to a lawyer if you want to know who owns the money according to governments. I don't care about this unless I have to.
...

I really doubt I'll get an answer as most of my questions about the forum to theymos go unanswered...

Please explain how unilaterally making a decision to spend $350,000 as a down payment on new forum software is appropriate management.  It seems especially inappropriate as the software company does not have a website.

In simple terms, transaction malleability could allow someone to spend bitcoins twice, which is tantamount to counterfeiting the virtual currency.
...

In simple terms... NOPE!  Transaction malleability does not allow people to double spend coins.

It allows for people to abuse websites that track deposits by txid instead of tracking address, amount, and time.
212  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $350,000 forum software project on: February 12, 2014, 02:34:33 AM
I am still waiting to know who is on this forum software group that is making the decisions, I guess it is just theymos.

That
213  Other / Meta / Re: Noob restriction, Theymos and mods we need this back on: February 11, 2014, 11:29:48 PM
I doubt the poll would have an effect either way, he's just going to make up his mind then do what he thinks is best.
So the community does not have much effect on the decision?

It doesn't seem that way
214  Other / Meta / Re: Noob restriction, Theymos and mods we need this back on: February 11, 2014, 11:11:41 PM
Thanks!
Since you're part of staff, I might ask you this here.
If we ran a poll on adding newbie restrictions back, would theymos go with it?

I doubt the poll would have an effect either way, he's just going to make up his mind then do what he thinks is best.

The $350,000 was just a down payment or the full amount owed? If it is not the full amount how much more could this end up costing us?

The total cost will probably be around $1 million. The $350,000 covers several months of work, after which I will evaluate the performance of Slickage Studios and choose whether or not to continue. In any case, the code will be open source, so no work will be lost.
...

So the $350k might be a complete waste of money?  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Why did you spend $350,000 if you're not even sure if they're able to handle the project?
216  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: February 09, 2014, 02:21:16 AM
Your "score" going down is a terrible reason to not report, it's not like anyone else can see it.
It's extremely demotivating. If you aren't going to show reporters which of their reports were marked as invalid, then it would be better not to show that number at all.

I'm not saying it's a perfect system... but that you shouldn't worry about your "score"
217  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: February 08, 2014, 10:10:28 PM
If it gets too extreme, I'll just begin deleting the more unoriginal/generic/short threads by default. Until now, I only really deleted absolutely useless threads which are certainly spam and serve no purpose.

In general though, if something particular annoys you, just report it.

So far, my report rate has been 100%, but i worry about it dropping. I'm afraid that i'll become too persnickity.
I stopped reporting because my percentage would drop inexplicably, with no indication of what the problem was. There's no reason to show somebody a metric and not give them feedback about why it's changing - that's just an exercise in frustration.

Your "score" going down is a terrible reason to not report, it's not like anyone else can see it.

The big deal is that there's zero transparency on this issue
219  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator application on: February 05, 2014, 02:16:40 AM
So what is the outcome? Did bitpop make the cut, or was this joke?

Let's go with that option
220  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: February 05, 2014, 01:39:33 AM
Please revert this change, the whole forum is getting spammed to fucking oblivion now.

Lets chalk it up to experiement over and go back to the way that we know works.

I concur
