201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confirmation became really fast, what has happened? on: July 02, 2017, 06:17:43 PM
Any evidence that the recent congestion has been due to spam attacks? Big blockers want big blocks in order to be able to have transactions confirmed in the next block with low fees... Spamming the network would be making sure they don't get exactly what they want. Sounds counterproductive.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confirmation became really fast, what has happened? on: July 02, 2017, 01:47:13 PM
Time until first confirmation isn't only fee dependent. Priority also plays a role. You might want to read up on it here
203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price May Surge As Italian Banks Send Alarm Signals For Europe on: July 02, 2017, 01:34:40 PM
Yet another situation in which the people pay for their banks and leaders "spending extravaganza" and bad management. This has become the norm throughout the years yet we still give these guys our businesses. Soon people will be fed up of banging their heads against a brick wall...

Such situations are causing investors all over Europe to question the safety of the banking system.

For quite a long time, lol, people aren't questioning themselves just now. Unfortunately it is simply hard for some to stop questioning themselves and act.

Thank you.

...

My *guess* is that this will be a long and drawn out process (Italian banking system breaking down and perhaps dragging along the rest of Europe).  Keep an eye on Monte Paschi, a BIG Italian bank in big trouble.

We were just in Italy and saw NOTHING different.  No demonstrations, no closed banks, all stores open, ATMs working, etc.  So, I would agree that increasing bank failures in Europe will cause more and more pain over time, but I think it will take a while.

But, sometimes these things appear to move very slowly, then BANG!  And then the party is over.

Italy would just be another country dragging Europe...

You don't see anything out of the ordinary until huge news break. Maybe a delegation of a bank closing here or there, but things work as usual until the point of total breakdown...

Few banks in Italy to infect bitcoin's price ? Highly doubt it. When banks got rekt in Greece it did not change price of BTC at all

Price swings during that time (and there was quite a bit of market action back then) was rumored to be connected to the Greek situation. Could have been the usual suspects/whales tho.

If banks are not profitable, it is better to let them leave the market rather than to keep them artificially alive with preventive recapitalizations.

Countries can't afford to have banks depositors lose their money.

See, this is the thing that most "normal" people don't seem to grasp about the traditional banking system.  Whether it ends up being a 'bail-in' or a 'bail-out', banks are still gambling your money away and failing.  When they fail, it's still you who ends up paying for it.  They still get paid vast sums and earn ridiculous bonuses whether they win or lose, you get poorer either way as they continue to print money from thin air towards the general direction of worthlessness.  It's a parasitic sham.

Plus, a failed bank is a damning indictment of the sheer level of greed and incompetence in the finance sector.  They literally have a licence to print money and they still somehow manage to go out of business?  What the fuck is wrong with these people?

If there was a post of the month award, this would be a runner up this month.
204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Africa Isnt Ready For Bitcoins on: July 02, 2017, 11:32:10 AM
Unfortunately Africa isn't ready for money at all, for some of the reasons OP listed, so they wouldn't be "eligible" (so to speak) to use Bitcoin to begin with. Here's to hoping this changes soon, not for Bitcoin, but for population living in absolute poverty and in remote areas without access to anything people in developed countries consider to be basic. As for the rest of Africa, it's just a matter of time. A few years back "1st world countries" didn't have access to internet, smartphones, etc and look where we're at...
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it even possible to regulate bitcoins? on: June 30, 2017, 06:30:58 PM
There can be regulations for usage in merchants. Obviously not in the way Bitcoin works, but it's usage "outside" the virtual space can be hindered (I assume you're also in doubt if usage can be hindered, that's a yes for that)
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does a wallet come to know of Address just by importing Private key? on: June 30, 2017, 06:25:33 PM
It knows because one key can only correspond to one address, so to speak. I'm not sure why exactly you're confused, as you seem to get things pretty much right.

207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright Threatens Bitcoin Community in Surprise Conference Speech on: June 30, 2017, 06:21:16 PM
I don't think that after what happened his opinion should be taken seriously or even considered. He keeps burying himself and saying things like this and insulting people just makes him look ridiculous and untrustworthy... So let's just move on.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin secure from AI on: June 30, 2017, 11:19:56 AM
... I don't see how AI can ruin Bitcoin? Cheesy Unless AI is so advanced it can discover some kind of vulnerability, which is highly unlikely. I think it's more likely we have a collision.
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is an altcoin on: June 29, 2017, 10:06:51 PM
This is what half the forum has been saying to the other half for the last few months. Unfortunately people forget that a Bitcoin Wiki exists... And rush saying that Bitcoin will become an alt or that this or that doesn't correspond to "Satoshi's vision, written on the paper".

Apparently hard forks for bug corrections aren't altcoins, but for development they are...
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cyber attackers asking for $300 in bitcoin on: June 29, 2017, 09:32:29 PM
YET another attack... What have we learned? Nothing apparently. Or that companies still do absolutely nothing to protect themselves even after attacks previously occured. I'm willing to bet the attack vector was exactly the same...
211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does the cryptocurrency industry need? on: June 25, 2017, 10:16:05 PM
What Bitcoin and cryptocurrency needs is honest people and devs that have as their top interest the development and steady growth of the technology.

The direction we should head to is build a robust foundation for Bitcoin to work for years to come and adapt to new users and developments towards ease of use...
212  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bithonest.biz People be warned! on: June 25, 2017, 10:11:47 PM
If you think you've been scammed, you can create a thread at the Scam Accusations board.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will the bitcoin run out? on: June 25, 2017, 10:09:47 PM
I think you'll find this interesting.
214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I get a QR Code for Receiving Donations? on: June 24, 2017, 07:15:22 PM
You can generate an address wherever and generate a QR code for it, and place it wherever you want. You don't need a specific client for that, just create an address anywhere and convert it to a QR wherever you want.

Most wallets will give you a QR for an address if requested.

There are no wallets easier or more difficult to "pickpocket". This just depends on how much security you employ.
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS] Google Bought Blockchain.info on: June 24, 2017, 11:02:20 AM
I see someone is an expert in clickbait titles Grin

I really don't know how to they have this many signups and revenue. They show ads? People are still being redirected to these online wallets, which is sad. I'd throw them my money if they developed something with more features and that lets you control your own keys. Also funny thing, this is the first time I've heard Richard Branson being late in investing in something... Cheesy
216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS]: Satoshi Nakamoto Is Dead!!! on: June 23, 2017, 04:38:09 PM
Great clickbait title Grin

That being said, it's probably for the best of this community and himself that Satoshi died, or pretended to be dead (which would be the ideal, because obviously nobody wishes anyone's death). People would finally leave him alone. Bitcoin technology would remain, the price would go haywire with heavy swings for a few days and the community would eventually stop mocking him and saying he's be the solution to each and every problem.
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is ethereum going to fail bitcoin? on: June 23, 2017, 04:33:19 PM
No... I don't see what ETH brings to the table or has different than Bitcoin that could really cause issues for Bitcoin.
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are you preparing yourself for the 1st of August? on: June 23, 2017, 04:29:28 PM
I don't see why the 1st of August will require special preparation... Maybe accumulate a bit of fiat in order to buy more coins in a speculative possible dip after we scale? Other than that I see no reason to do specific preparation for anything...
219  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 per bitcoin on: June 23, 2017, 04:07:39 PM
I think we are going to spend $10,000 per bitcoin sooner than we thought because more countries are legalizing bitcoin. Australia is going to do it on July 1st, India is on its way. What do you think?

Yet again... It's been happening very frequently recently around here, can you post sources to backup your post?

Maybe you mean that double taxation will end in Australia?

Regarding India, maybe you mean this?
220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bitcoin fork not going to happen? on: June 22, 2017, 03:49:05 PM
I heard news about Segwit being passed etc. But I am confused what is actually the case. When will Segwit be passed, and if so when? And does this mean there will be no hardfork in august?

Or are things still not confirmed about this?

No scaling proposal has "passed" so far. Nobody knows if SegWit will or will not pass, but lately it's been looking like it won't.

So yeah, basically nothing's confirmed.
