721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For what was Bitcoin created? on: September 25, 2016, 02:21:37 PM
You've already replied to yourself, it certainly was to show that a currency can exist without central control or any kind of government, and he also wanted to make a way for people to escape the (corrupt) fiat banking system.
722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Satoshi reveals himself, what would be of Bitcoin? on: September 24, 2016, 01:05:52 AM
What do you think that will happen once the real Satoshi reveals himself (and proves that he created Bitcoin)? Will Bitcoin ever be the same? Will governments try to pursue Satoshi and put him in jail?

This will be something interesting to know, once it happens (if it ever does) sometime in the future. Please feel free to share your thoughts here.  Smiley

Bitcoin would most likely be the same, I think. We came thus far without his guidance, so... Satoshi appearing would be another voice just like any other. Governments would definitely be on top of him ASAP (if they aren't already) and would probably seize his things and/or arrest him.
723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MOTO] Motocoin PROOF-of-PLAY [NEW BOT] Human Mineable -Play Game to Mine- 1yr+ on: September 24, 2016, 01:02:53 AM
HunterMinerCrafter, are you going coming back to develop motocoin?

That's the million dollar question. HMC seems to be busy on other projects for the time being.
724  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Formatted harddrive on: September 22, 2016, 09:45:39 PM
Yes, the seed will recover your wallet. Why aren't you able to recover it? Any errors?

As for the file itself, if you didn't touch that hard drive after formatting, and didn't erase all data completely, there's a remote chance you may still be able to recover the file.
725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is running a node getting costlier? on: September 22, 2016, 08:17:42 PM
I don't think it's getting costlier, in general. You can always search for VPS providers with cheap rates and promotions, they appear frequently. You have to change hosts in order to keep costs down sometimes... You eventually manage to be able to run a node for cheap one way or another.

Another option is running a node at home, which can be even cheaper in the long term. Get a Raspberry Pi, an old hard drive, a case for it, and you're good to go.

I can still run a node on Azure for under $150 / month. The most expensive variable cost is not the disk but the network bandwidth.

As far as my experience goes, I have more difficulty getting a cheap host with 80+GB of storage than a cheap host with loads of traffic and bandwidth. And yes, you can run a node for wayyy cheaper than 150$/month Cheesy
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Phishing : The Next Wave -Open Dns on: September 22, 2016, 08:11:25 PM
Interesting article. Not much to add. I can only say that fortunately I haven't been the target of phishing attacks. Only once, for a website I don't even have an account in Cheesy
727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [TIP] Downloading Wallet needs faster than 54Mbps, or has problems. on: September 22, 2016, 04:24:49 PM
Increasing size is just the normal evolution of the blockchain. More blocks, bigger size... I agree with Lauda, probably something in your particular wifi adapter or router. What's the wireless hardware you use?
728  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org Website Price Is 1138 BTC Or 681 899 USD - Good Price For Buying on: September 21, 2016, 10:51:57 PM
Bitcointalk isn't for sale, and truth be told, you can't really price it...
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [TIP] Downloading Wallet needs faster than 54Mbps, or has problems. on: September 21, 2016, 10:46:29 PM
What kind of problems did you have? I've downloaded from wifi without issues previously in the past...
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PSA1: ROOM77 does NOT have a Bitcoin atm anymore. PSA2: owners of an atm ... on: September 21, 2016, 10:42:55 PM
Interesting, I wonder if there's anyone suffering from the same evil, and if we can see a pattern here... Wonder why burglars are so interested in the Bitcoin ATM.

Wondering also why the German central bank wasn't happy with your Bitcoin ATM, did they sent you any communication regarding it?
731  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which is the most SECURE Bitcoin wallet? on: September 21, 2016, 11:29:19 AM
Also, you can't ask to all people to become programmers. That's not a viable way to spread Bitcoin into mainstream. Even most coders wouldn't waste time on checking all the wallets' code.

Indeed, I can't, but Bitcoin is all about needing no trust. So if you only trust yourself and want to be safe, that's the way to do it.

Why you say that it's all about trust?
I don't think it is.
MtGox and more examples showed us you can't trust. But I didn't even need those examples. Money is money, and Bitcoin is money.
And humans are still humans. I can't see why you should trust more the Bitcoin scene developers than any other financial institution.
The fact that most Bitcoin people are dreamers hoping in a more free world doesn't mean that robbers won't get into the scene.
Quite the opposite: as it's a pioneers ground, criminals have better land to work.
And even non-criminals could always go down on temptation.
Dreaming is nice, but with money you better keep your eyes open (and your ass well shut! XD)

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to... In the end it's all about trust, as in you should trust yourself only and Bitcoin gives you that ability (and when you trust others, you might get screwed)
732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you find out the optimal network fee for transaction? on: September 21, 2016, 11:21:46 AM
The speed of the transaction is also dependent on network fees and it varies.

Is there an optimal network fee or a website I could find reference to the latest network fee?

The transaction speed does not depend on network fees nor does it vary wildly.

Beyond the sites that were already linked, you can have more info on transaction fees here
733  Other / Archival / Re: Decentralized, but very slow adoption OR centralized, but mass adoption happened on: September 20, 2016, 04:47:01 PM
Decentralized is the key word. We cannot take it other way, it doesn't matter how much time adoption will take.
734  Other / Off-topic / Re: Put any evidence, when "Cash is Dangerous". on: September 20, 2016, 04:37:53 PM
If the goal of this thread is saying that bank notes and money in general is, literally, dirty, then we all already know that and I'm not sure what does this have to do with Bitcoin Discussion Cheesy

Would be interesting to know what actually says on the banknotes with cyrillic on them.
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Now Officially Money! on: September 20, 2016, 04:30:05 PM
Wow, amazing! Roll Eyes So now that someone supposedly known for being an authority of some kind considers Bitcoin money and it starts being money just because of that! Cool. Only on mainstream media... Roll Eyes

Another interesting fact is a owner of a website that used Bitcoin says that Bitcoin isn't money! Anything to defend their wrongdoings (that are, at its core, non Bitcoin related...)

Who cares what people in offices, or officials, think? If we'd taken that attitude, Bitcoin wouldn't be here at all, it's been officially denounced ad infinitum up to now.

err... almost everyone?
dude, i agree with you that right now bitcoin investors doesnt care much about that but if we want to see bitcoin been used as a real currency(daily use) we will need these offices/officials.

f*ck the government, f*ck the banks, i dont care about them... but the majority of the population cares so unfortunatelly we will need their support.

but if we allow those officials to decide what bitcoin is and then pigeon hole it into the wrong category. it makes bitcoin no better than fiat.

i personally see bitcoin as an asset currency. which makes it have more possibilities than thinking of it as just money.
anyone can have the freedom of swapping assets without the hurdles of money.

EG
if bitcoin is money. then suddenly people will start to need to declare transactions above $10k value
if bitcoin is money. then suddenly people will start paying tax on it every time its swapped
if bitcoin is money. then suddenly at border control (highway checkpoints/airports) will need to have their trezor's/keepkeys examined and confiscated if over $10k value is hoarded
if bitcoin is money. then suddenly people will start to need pay inheritance tax if you time locked it and gave the private key your child.

then things like identification requirements just to hold bitcoin start becoming a thing.

lets not get excited that some official wants bitcoin to be money. because all they really want is a nice payday in the form of a huge fine/settlement, future tax income etc

The fact that Bitcoin is colloquially classified as "money" doesn't oblige it to follow the same rules as fiat. Bitcoin is money, BUT it doesn't have to be tied to anything else, nor is it equal to the money we have used so far, thus it doesn't have to adhere to the same rules.
736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing my $2,000,000 Into bitcoin (advice me) on: September 20, 2016, 04:08:50 PM
You get a sense that the OP might not be really asking because he wants to know because of the fact that he, or his friend, has access to 2 million and doesn't know straight away what to do... It's very easy, catch a flight to China, buy land somewhere where the electric rates are a cent, build a small warehouse, hire someone to do the electrical install, buy used miners and off you go Cheesy
737  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is it possible to create a cold storage wallet online ? on: September 19, 2016, 06:50:52 PM
my question is about like a online service that creates cold storage addresses

like a user press a button and a cold storage address is created on which he can sent its bitcoin and recover all the security stuff (private key ie)

Let's imagine for a moment that a website claimed to be able to create a private key offline and display it's public address for you online... How would you prove that this website is indeed doing that and not just creating a key pair that's live on their server?

I think if you store it on cloudbox or othe cloud storage,it will work as cold storage although not in strict sense.By the way why would you like to keep it online, and whats wrong in keeping it with your online wallet if you want to keep it online?

Same as a few posts above, it would cease to be cold the moment you put it online, no matter how encrypted and secure it is.

Nothing wrong in having an online wallet, but we're discussing cold wallets.
738  Other / Off-topic / Re: waiting for a confirmation: what are you doing? on: September 19, 2016, 06:45:11 PM
Wow. Is it that "painful" to wait for a confirmation? Cheesy I just get on with my life and forget about it...
739  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which is the most SECURE Bitcoin wallet? on: September 19, 2016, 06:07:30 PM
While I agree that banks are the problem, you can't go over the fact that your money are protected in there. If the bank gets robbed, there's no repercussion on your money, they are insured, you will get your money, no matter what. Of course this doesn't include huge bank problems and the bail in shit. But a group of robbers entering a bank won't affect your funds.

But your BTCs at home are unprotected. You can't insure them, because no insurance is accepting it, at least for now. You have to provide your own funds safety.

Yes, I think we all have to agree on that.

Trezor is open source, and you have the code available, BUT when you buy one, you don't know what is flashed in it.
You don't know if the software flashed in it, on 11.11.2021 anybody connecting a Trezor to internet will see his BTCs flying away.

Exactly, hence why you should flash your own compiled version of the software if you distrust the way it comes from factory and shipping.

So, apart raising the problem with this thread, I would like to receive a concrete answer.
At the moment, I think there's no grant anywhere that what you use as a wallet is exempt from the safety problems I exposed.
You download a wallet and you can't know what's in it.
But a larger team, means also more difficulty to put malicious code in the final version that is uploaded to a store.
In this regard I guess the Bitcoin Wallet, the official one, is probably the most reliable under this point of view.
Is there any expert in the wallets scene around here?

Yes, I have to agree on that too, from this point of view Bitcoin Core should be the safest wallet.
740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MOTO] Motocoin PROOF-of-PLAY [NEW BOT] Human Mineable -Play Game to Mine- 1yr+ on: September 19, 2016, 04:18:07 PM
How to recovery my old wallet?
Try to replace wallet.dat with my old, but nothing happens: motocoin-qt just eating 25% of my processor.
When i delete wallet.dat, motocoin starts normally

Maybe you have a lot of transactions? Just let it run for a few minutes/hours. If that doesn't work, backup the wallet and start your client with the -salvagewallet command.
