FYI

theymos doing what he does best...

Bravo....

Note that I've decided to suspend ad sales. These auctions will probably be permanently ended, and I'm not sure whether or in what form advertising in general will be continued. Maybe some ads will go up again fairly soon, or maybe there will never be any more ads; I haven't decided yet. The main reasons for this decision are:

Firstly, I'm finding it too difficult to determine which services are legit/safe and which are not. It takes me 30+ minutes to research each new service to reach at least some level of confidence in it, but at the end of this I often still don't feel fully confident. Bitcointalk.org is meant to be operated "as a service to the community", so it's very important to me that bitcointalk.org not be seen to be putting profit above the interests of its users. (I've been kind of shocked at the crypto-related ads that are shown on TV, which are often way beyond anything I'd accept here. And I'd like to tighten our standards.)

.....

Finally, bitcointalk.org has a large reserve of BTC, so we're able to continue operating without ad revenue for many years. It's not even necessary to cut expenses or find replacement sources of revenue anytime soon, and I currently have no solid plans to do these things. I do regard it as less than ideal to be operating at a constant loss, especially because it constraints any desired future growth in expenses. Improving this situation will be on my mind in the coming years, but luckily it need not be a high priority.

Or...

I have decided the (AT LEAST) 60 million USD in donations to the forum  will be enough to sustain us for 6-8 months or so.

https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html

Don't @ me.  I love Thanos and the forum.  (Wait... I mean Theranos... sorry.)  ((feck, I am getting banned and all my merits erased!!!))

And I don’t want to know what flavor that would be?

The generator did such a good job, but this blew it on the name?

"Bag of chips called "Rusty Pipes""

And why did it decide to put some of the chips into a weird clay bucket?  These things are so fun.

This one looks more like the text is saying "pussies" again?

The President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis tells the truth about Central Bank Digital Currencies(CBDCs).
(54 seconds) ... makes sense

Although The President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis has become one of my heroes
, and it makes me happy that there are still people in my country in leadership positions that think this way.

But it terrifies me that there seem to be so few.

Here's your "hero" hard at work at gaslighting the public

https://youtu.be/DUrlNHTxuJM?t=44

Are some here really admiring these evil central bankers who think they can print money ad infinitum without consequences?  Shocked

Oh good grief.  He said a good thing.  I am always surprised with a central banker says something AGAINST the idea of CDBC surveillance.

Maybe the dude is human and can have both bad and good ideas.  Or maybe hes a machine insider and playing a role... could be that too...  almost seems more likely, sadly.

LOL!  I had no idea that was Kashkari.  But it was wasn't it?

You got me... OK "Hero" is a little strong.  Especially with those wacky AOC eyes he has!  But that was some good stuff he was saying.  You think he is just being a foil?

El Duderino

#LongLiveHaikuSunday

So, that said, here come some bad news:

There will be no more astrophotography pics from me posted here within the next few months (at least).
My youngest one powerslided into the tripod today. I was directly looking at the scene, when i saw the scope with camera and everything mounted tipping over like in slow motion. The only thing that wasn't slomo was the hit on the floor. I am glad that nobody got hurt, though. 8 Kilograms of metal and glass would hurt a child's body in a pretty ugly way. It was also partially my fault, because i had the tripod feet extended, it would probably not have tipped over if i had it set much lower. It was prepared for the next clear night, which seems to almost never come, lately. Also, the whole setup was built for smaller loads than what i had mounted (EDIT: ...and therefore very top heavy).
The result: Refractor focusing tube damaged beyond repair, focuser damaged beyond repair, Astro-DSLR bayonet mount tilted, polar wedge bent, tracking mount gets caught on several positions, on both axes when turning by hand in unlocked position.
The tripod, field flattener and lens heating survived.

I still don't know how to handle this event emotionally, seems like i will repress thinking about it and find a solution when i'm emotionally over it.
It's unlikely that i take some Sats off my stash at these price levels, otherwise i would be filling a nice online shopping cart right now, instead of typing this post...
Shit happens.

The consequence is that i will aim for a heavier, sturdy tipod/mount combination. I can mount bigger scopes onto such one, it would be tracking more accurately and if someone runs into it, he will suffer more than the equipment will.
Lesson learned  Sad

Almost halfway there after 16 hours!!  99 confirmations!  Woop woop!

But, but... CSW said $BSV is much faster than Bitcoin!!!  Huh

Oh. No.  NO.  no.

So many sorrys fill my soul for this one.  Not the least of which is the fact I will not see your photos for some time.  But it is what it is.  And it is just stuff right?  And a moment to extend grace to your youngin, who, even if they are not showing it probably feels pretty bad about this.
207  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 18, 2022, 05:20:58 PM
last week I suggested my friend to diversify, then I stumbled this ...

I think I should meet him again to talk about the last thing

I don't know man.  I'm pretty sure that's JimboToronto wheeling around his private lake on his solar powered e-bike that he empowered himself to buy with his foresight to invest early and often in Bitcoin.

Truth.  There are some books, for which a cover judgement is an error.  We all express our desires differently based on so many factors.  Me?  I seem to collect stainless steel washers, and hardware wallets.

While on that topic?  It's interesting.  I am a maxi-antimaxi.  So one I have not bought is a Coldacard.  There is this recent bitcoin maxi "pleb" meme going around twitter.

So, here's the irony.  I am:
-keto unto carnivore nearly (but not... I eat veggies, mostly green ones)
-believe strongly that the family is important and currently under attack
-am NOT a 'gun nut' but have an AR15 2 feet from my left hand right now.  Locked and loaded. Enter my space uninvited at your ULTIMATE peril. I will make it quick (and it will 100% not be the AR15 that does it, lol).
-do NOT own a coldcard, but may someday. Have 5 other hardware wallets lol.
-think The Bitcoin Standard is a masterwork, even if Saif is often annoying.
-am a Christian, but REJECT WITH ALL MY SOUL all "bitcoin as religion" garbage.

I have no idea what a "bitcoin pleb" is.  Think 6.15 is both juvenile, and not enough, really.  I respect people's decision to SELL THEIR BITCOIN when they want to.  Like BitcoinTINA, or our own LFC (yes I know they both did not sell it all, not nearly, i'd guess in the latter case).  AND I recognize that folk's reasons to do so are both valid, and their choice.  I think 'lambos' are a stupid waste of money.  But also see my last point!  If you want one, then GO FOR IT!  I will drive my current truck until they make diesel so expensive I can no longer afford it (so mid 2023?).

So the entire reason I do NOT buy a Coldcard?  Because it is the HW wallet (signing device really, please) of childish maximalists.  Silly right?  I agree.

Ironically my fav HW wallet (for UI/form reasons) is the keep key.  It was a Trezor fork, and is just a lovely little piece of hardware with a nice UI, but was subverted by Shapeshit... oh well.  Though I also like Jade quite a bit.  Maybe SOMEDAY I will get a Coldcard.

That meme above?  Some very prominent bitcoiners pushed back on it... for example Wladimir van der Laan, bitcoin's last lead maintainer who actually wrapped up his time in that position in part BECAUSE of stupid maxis...

(yeah totally a not so subtle-brag.  Nick Szabo ALSO follows me!)

In my opinion the "maxis" have a mixed effect on Bitcoin.  They make it seem childish sometimes... exclusive, a club for boys mostly, and girls who thirst-trap for them (please see the post RIGHT ABOVE this one!!!).  People who think El Salvador is now unconquerable, and assume anything Michael Saylor does is godly.

But then again, Bitcoin does not give a single fuck.

So why do I?

Maybe I will go order a Coldcard and a few Opendimes right this moment...

(But I am drawing the line at the stupid overpriced blockclock)

I would put 21 more if I had left smerits.

Please, allow me!

I pitch in!

(I am not making this up.  They require 200 confirmations!  The chances of all the remaining 3.32 BSV nodes going offline before the deal is complete is uncomfortably high!  Almost halfway there after 16 hours!!  99 confirmations!  Woop woop!)
210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 18, 2022, 04:20:19 PM
.... merits .... I have been given shitloads of them and I'm still pumping out the same old crap.

.....

You deserved everyone of them and then some my friend. So please do continue pumping out that "same old crap" because I for one love it.

Cheers mate.

AWww.  You guys are gonna make me cry.

NO CRYING DURING BEAR MARKETS!

Wow... "BitcoinTINA" sold the "majority" of his BTC.

that is the guy who thought we would hit 500k-700k in 2022 , and 1mil-1.5mil in 2023

I'm not really shocked that it's always these kind of stupid uber bulls, who sell near the bottom..

they chicken out as soon as the boat gets rocked a bit...   fkn wimps

Agree.  Though... I imagine, without reading ahead... that he justifies it with his age... which, honestly/?  Is not invalid.

The KPMG testimony on all of faketoshis forgeries is scrumptious.

They completely eviscerated him.  And the cult is going full denial looney mode.

I am loving this.

You know... I kept a handful of all the forks just as a souvenir.

That was fucking stupid.  But I do still have some BSV.  I wonder if I can still find it... lol.

(Edit... lol 16DhkWL61dGTtCsStPxXZZG9AhVcvpUq1t)  Why on earth did I not convert this with the rest.  Well here it goes...

Guys...

I'm conflicted.

What are you supposed to do when a crime has been committed and you have reason to believe you know who did it?

I just don't know what to do!

Wow, all the drinking seems to have had a really negative impact on him.

yea.... he doesn't look healthy at all...

Also, I do not think I have ever heard a less meaningful 7 minutes of speaking in my life.  It did not even make any sense.  Not only did the whole thing not make sense, the individual ideas he was failing to connect were generally incoherent.

And I fully turned off my CW is a dipshit filter.  I almost wanted it to be compelling in some way.  I watched the whole damn thing.

Absolute gobbledygook.

Talking gibberish as always.... but the BSV folk's comments under the video are so entertaining....  they still wait for BSV to take over  Cheesy Cheesy

Nobody's going to read those comments espcaially when all crypto videos are plagued with bot comments advertising "Chicago Investor".

Mr. Chicago Investor, you forgot to leave a link to your page? WhatsApp numbers don't cut it I'm afraid.

You failed to take into account:  there is no one to scam under a BSV video...  these guys are all broke....

you won't find any bot comments advertising under this vid ...

Wow, all the drinking seems to have had a really negative impact on him.

Keep going.  You analysis is legendary in my opinion.  Hope I did not just jinx you.

I find this an extremely interesting market currently.  Not only is this action inside this particular bitcoin "cycle" somewhat unique, but we are in a very unusual macro environment for the entire Earth currently.  I am not well versed in TA at ALL.  But I am good at predicting the future.  Had I acted on all the things I have seen I would be muuch richer. Lol.  In fact I just filled up the tank of my little 4 cyl diesel truck because... diesel?  We are going to see that go up soon. See if I am not right.

That said, I know your tech analysis has nothing to do with those variables... but seeing what is happening technically with BTC against that backdrop is an engine for thought.  Like I said... keep it up.

And when the other node closed the channel they deserved every single sat they got, and Bob has all of those same number of sats PLUS fees on other channels.

Aha! This right here is what I was referring to as the "quantum state" that I did not clearly understand, and now do; that "sucked" liquidity has been moved to other channels I have.

I actually understand it now!

Thanks, brother!
My pleasure sir!  Deej might just open a channel with you for the 4th time I think.  Lol.

<snip>

#LNMETA

During all the mempool nonsense just recently, I just watched a node manually drain out all my liquidity through their side, paid some handsome fees, and closed the channel on me.

Curious watching the overall game theory play out.

Is the person on the other side of the channel trying to cheat you?

I have a lot of interest in how LN pool is working as a second/third layer for BTC

Bob what are your thoughts on this?

any idea on your BTC outlays vs your BTC intakes. You have been running one a while.

It is basically impossible for someone to cheat someone out of value this way.

I have been running lightning nodes since the very beginning (One of the first 200 nodes was mine) , and have had catastrophic hard drive failures, and made big mistakes.

So with Bob's channel... if I understand Bob opened the channel, the value was on his side.  This other node pulled all that liquidity to their side, and then closed the channel.  The only way for this to have happened is for Bob's other channels to have gained that same liquidity.  And when the other node closed the channel they deserved every single sat they got, and Bob has all of those same number of sats PLUS fees on other channels.

There are many ways one can lose money on the lightning network.  But this is absolutely not one of them.  The way that channel operators are MOST vulnerable to would be the opposite scenario.  The other node opens the channel to Bob.  Bob pulls ALL that liquidity to HIS side of the channel (and loses an equal amount on other channels) and THEN the channel partner waits for Bob to go OFFLINE and force closes the channel with a fraudulent balance (I still have all the sats on MY side!!! ).  IF there are no watchtowers watching, then they might get away with this.  We have seen VERY little of this sort of thing yet.

I have done the math on my own nodes.  I have never lost a sat due to anything like this.  In fact, even after my hard drive failure I have not lost a single sat. (Amazingly... I was prepared to lose over a BTC heh)

Interestingly, I do have ONE zombie channel open with a node.  That node opened the channel for 5000000 sats.  There was never any transactions, and they disappeared before my node went down.  For them to get their value back they have to force close this channel but they have been offline for months.  Eventually, if I want to, I can craft and execute a close for this channel for the entire balance, and since they are not online I will get it.  I have nothing to lose, since even if a watchtower saw me try to lie there is not penalty I can even pay.  All those sats are really his.

I will never do this.  If that other node comes back they will always be able to reclaim those bitcoin.

Since you had been talking out of both sides of your mouth in regards to whether models are good are bad, I doubt that I am saying much of anything different from you except maybe some of my matters end up getting framed differently from you in terms of my desire to assert that the models are still quite useful, even if they end up playing out wrongedly.

I am a man of the grey, of nuance, of complexity.  I think the models are interesting, and useful.  And all of them end up wrong because you cannot simplify the chaotic nature of this market into a terse formula.

I STILL do not think S2F is necessarily completely busted yet.  PROBABLY at this point... but. And I would love to see it come roaring back particularly with the overshoot needed to balance this deviation.

But I am not betting on that.
