My religion is logic; my Lord is reason.

Howdy y'all

Texan here, just saying hello!

Been trying out mining for a month or so, figure I should get my account up and running so I can post some hardware questions.

Finally got up to 2 gh/s woo! Can't get my 4th 5970 to connect though.  Angry

Howdy Grin  Good to meet another Texan on here, from whereabouts are you from?
2023  Other / Meta / Re: Wtf is wrong with that guy? on: May 29, 2013, 10:45:58 PM
Yeah I dunno, I've noticed this too.  Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it much, unless he tries to sell something.  Then the reason becomes clear.
2024  Other / Off-topic / Re: lol on: May 29, 2013, 10:44:55 PM
Is this real life?

Is this just fantasy?
2025  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The idea of Terracoins is over 10 years old just read the proof. on: May 29, 2013, 10:41:14 PM
On the contrary. Capitalism channels resources to those who value them the most. And if those who value them most do so in order to preserve them....

Environmental issues are not a systemic problem, they're a people problem. If people care about the environment, they'll protect it. If they don't, they won't. No matter the system.

Excellent point, I hadn't thought of that.  If we really wanted to, we would already be doing it.
2026  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tertiary/Higher Education on: May 29, 2013, 10:37:09 PM
I had to withdraw from my Spanish I class because of the lab; they required 250$ for the spanish books, which came with a code, which was a one-time use thing so I could use the online course materials, which were required to even get a passing grade in the class.  Usually, I skip out on the book because my classes never use them but once or twice, and I'd bet this class would be no different.  But, for some odd money-influenced reason, I couldn't get by without participating in the lab.

This was the same rap for my algebra/trig classes, too; they all require an expensive online lab thing which, if you do not participate, cannot hope to get a passing grade in the class.  In other words, student extortion.  The books were one thing; I do just fine without the books and still make good grades, even though they all tell you to get the book.  This is beyond that; it's turned into force.  Pay the extra fee or no chance to pass.  The only reason I had to stop this time, as opposed to my Math courses, is that this is really more of an elective for me; I just have a genuine interest in Spanish and figured 5 weeks of it would get me started off.  However, I don't actually have the money to pay for the lab (3/4ths of this class was paid for by scholarship money I'd won in an art contest), and so dropped both this and the 2nd Spanish course I would take in July.

Anyway, I'm gonna learn Spanish on my own.  Seeing as how learning a language is like learning how to do anything, I may as well study on my own, as that's what I would've been doing most of the time even with a class.  So now I must devise a strategy to learning Spanish, which I believe will revolve around grabbing Spanish literature and reading it, alongside a Spanish/English dict of some sort (probably got one in the App Store)  As my parents speak conversational Spanish (I don't think they can write academic essays in Spanish, but probably couldn't in English either,) I should be all right.

Any Spanish speakers recommend good books?  I'm probably going to pick up El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha.  I should also probably expose myself to more Spanish; there's plenty of Wikipedia articles in Spanish, and so I'd limit myself to those as opposed to their English counterparts, and keep trying until I understand what it means.  I've taken a look at Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone, and I hear the former is better, so I might also try that.

http://grayarea.webs.com/ Tell me if you think that I am just tripping. Or if you think its what  Bernard Lietaer was talking about with Terracoins.
I think I stopped reading at "climate change and biodiversity extinction"....

Nothing against these lines of thought at all, it's just presented as a supportive premise for the usual "need for sustainability" and then somehow a new currency is required because of that.  Way too complicated and long winded for me.

Yeah that's a little odd, the RBE has no need for currency.  If we're worried about protecting planet Earth, capitalism is not the way to go.

Eh, time spent here =\= good indicator of anything.  I think having it in the profile is enough, don't need it on all of the posts.

Agreed.  It would just look nasty and cluttered anyway, and every post would be a little bit taller.

1. Socialism and more socialism
2. No.
3. NONONONO
4. That's the same thing.  The 2-party system is simply begging to be rigged.  You're only rigging it so your newfound party will be the neo-Democrats, and then it'll be Democrats or more Democrats.

But on the gun thing, as it's apparently popular nowadays...

What's your reasoning behind a single entity having strict control over who has what guns?  That's a bit scary, don't you think?  The guys with all the guns (and the tanks, and the nukes, and the drones,) controlling who has the guns.  Our national government is so overpowered, it no longer has to obey the constitution, and fails to do so, constantly.  Why do you find it appropriate to sacrifice our very last means to overthrow a tyrannical government?  Will people magically stop wanting to kill each other, then?  None of this will fix the U.S., it will only change the U.S., but it will not fix our problems, merely solve a problem to generate yet another problem, which is, more regulation and more dependency on the government to live.  Welfare doesn't need to be changed, it needs to be removed.  The government needs to stop trying to correct the individual's problems; the government is not our father, it is not our God, it has no business in the private lives of its citizens, and giving it all the power in the world by allowing it to choose who has what weapons is a terrible idea.

Though I do agree that education is a top priority, it should not be a priority of the government.  The government should not own any schools, and should not force people to attend them.  Schools should be 100% privately owned, without any influence whatsoever from any governing body.  People should stop paying taxes on schools they do not want to attend, and instead, use that money to fund their kids education in the way they want to.  Now, the government has proven that it will do what it wants with the money it forces out of you.  That's why the military is so bloated.  Nobody, nobody, wants our military to be this big, and yet it is.  Despite any logic and reasoning (except for the obvious; why else would any nation need a giant military?), our military is bigger than the next biggest militaries combined.  How do we solve this problem?  It's not by playing the game of politics; it's by stopping that which has the power.  There should be exactly a 1:1 ratio of how much voting power a citizen has over how many citizens there are.  There's a reason why the 1% has so much influence.  It is because there is a central authority we all pay tribute to, without choice, who can then use that money in however way they see fit, and who accepts the biggest bribe from the biggest corporate empire.  Our government doesn't work for us: we can hardly call it our government.  They simply act on their own accord.

So who is they?  And why should anyone feel the need to become them?  Because they want power.  They want to be them.  I don't like that.  Politics works like this: we rob Peter, and then we pay Paul.  That's all it does and will ever do.  Unless your party revolves around cutting the national government's ability to tax, thereby killing its ability to rob Peter, I see no reason why to pretend it has any hope of solving America's biggest problem.  We're facing a crisis, a civil war between the rich and their livestock.  There is no left, and there is no right.  It's simply who has control over whom, and the American people haven't had control over their own lives for a long time.  That's the America we want: the America in which we are free.  Everything else is a distraction.
2030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you couldnt buy or sell BTC, what would you do with them? on: May 27, 2013, 02:42:06 PM
Not even a smart comparison.  Drugs are addictive.  No one has a need for Bitcoins.  Add to that, as long as fiat is easier and more practical to use, it will always dominate because people are lazy and will use what is most convenient.  Bitcoins are anything but convenient and easy to use.

I dunno, paper money's pretty inconvenient.  The only thing I use it for anymore is vending machines and the local flea market.  Plus, many of my transactions are now made online, including all my bills, except for groceries, which would be the only time I really need to use the card.  Anything that can be bought online can easily be paid for with Bitcoin (and you don't have to enter all those numbers and your address etc., either, to use your card, as in the case of BTC, all you have to do is copy and paste an address, specify how much BTC, and send.)  Though businesses may yet to use Bitcoin, I believe this will change, and Bitcoin will become much more convenient, as many people nowadays know how to work computers, which will always be the trend in the future.

So that just leaves the gap between F2F transactions, which I'm not sure Bitcoin will ever be able to replace.  Not without an intermediary, or some kind of super-quick altcoin.  There are some creative solutions but none I've considered too much.
2031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you couldnt buy or sell BTC, what would you do with them? on: May 27, 2013, 02:15:47 PM
You know if its ever made illegal.

How would making it illegal to buy or sell bitcoins prevent it from happening?  That approach hasn't worked too well with buying or selling drugs.

There's no law in existence that has ever stopped anything Tongue  Bitcoin's gonna keep happening per usual, with law or without law; it's simply something outside of the government purview.
2032  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are you doing with your bitcoins? on: May 27, 2013, 12:22:11 PM
Gonna hold onto them for like a million years or something.  By then I'll be able to purchase the universe, I'm certain.

I'll put my opinion in the form of a question:

If a system allows for exploitation, is something wrong with the exploiter or with the system itself? Wink

Depends: is the exploiter forced to participate in the system?

Just kidding.  The system is at fault either way you look at it Cheesy

The only subforums I check anymore are general BTC discussion, Politics & Society, and Off-Topic.  Everything else is filled with "How I do the mining rig?" and "New altcoin, identical to Litecoin but isn't!"
2037  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin - powered by greed? on: May 27, 2013, 08:59:59 AM
Aren't all economies more or less powered by greed lol. Aren't humans powered by greed? Without greed I doubt much would be going on lol

Well, we could always look into the life of a stoner for an example of that Tongue
