2061  Bitcoin / BitcoinJ / BitcoinJ how do you get a transaction outputs? on: June 19, 2013, 06:29:15 AM
I am getting a bunch of transactions using getWalletTransactions Then I am getting the outputs of that using the iterator to get each transaction then calling getOutputs, but that just gives me the ScriptPubKey. Can I change a setting to save the bitcoin address? Or can I get the output addresses another way?

I am trying to figure out the best way to get the balance of an address that I would control in my wallet.

*MODs can you move this if not in the right place, I really didn't know where to ask it*

I like it, the old way provided incentive for people to spam, and spammers can be difficult to moderate, and time consuming.

Why is this so hard to understand... it doesn't prevent spammers at all. Now all you do is create 10 accounts, log in to each one once a week, reply to 14 topics. Wait a while, oh look boom 10 hero accounts which are much harder to identify as fakes, without the need to spam.

Problem?

If your that dedicated then you deserve to spam, waiting 14 months to scam people, is insane.
2063  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: June 19, 2013, 05:15:40 AM
You should be able to rate the helpfulness of other posts and put the average there as well.
That sounds fair maybe a balanced component
Age / Helpfulness / Some other measures to make a total activity score

That turns into a popularity contest.

So what's wrong with that? Isn't that Reddit?

LMAO cause people vote with emotion, rather than knowledge.

I don't know, I like the way Reddit works. I even like the format. Besides this place is a fireball of emotion but also a seat of knowledge IF you are talking to the right person. You don't actually believe most of the dumbasses here that are Hero members actually know what they are talking about concerning Bitcoin do you? You still have the same group of carpet posters that you did before like Phin that just posts to post.

My favorite example of all these different tags was terrytibbs. He was a great very knowledgeable guy and wore a scammer tag for ages. You can't trust all these different fixes but you can fake out newbies into thinking they can trust them.

This forum is suppose to foster debates and decisions with everyone on the same level. Instead of having a upvote button which makes it too easy for people to push it, without fully thinking. I like when people write that they disagree, it allows one to defend or the disagreeing party to write out the reasoning making it that much better.

Like bitcoind I trust no one with out the proper research, but I also don't judge people by the tags they have, just judge by how they contribute to the community. Which has been working for me so far. Like I said before hitting a button is just too easy for some people.

Yeah, I guess your right. It wouldn't work here.

BTW: Here is the perfect example of what friging Hero members are doing right now: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236794.msg2516638#msg2516638

I hear you on that, chalk it up to emotion.

2065  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: June 19, 2013, 01:38:31 AM
Ok cool I am super active yet cause I don't post every second my activity level is super low nice.
Ha ha. I don't activitate nearly as much as you, yet I get a higher activity score than you. I'm awesome. Grin

Still, I feel somewhat cheated. Having thousands of posts used to mean something. It meant you were a highly valued and respected member of the community. Or, more commonly, it meant you were a complete asshat. Either way, whenever you saw someone with thousands of posts, you knew they were someone special. Now, I feel we've lost that.

It is cause you beat me by a month in signing up Sad Now welcome to place where if you were here since 2010 your respected member.

I actually think this system can be good but needs some tuning.

No, you probably want to use the blockchain time as a seed so you know it is random.

Do you know how I can do it?  I'm a newbie kinda still!  Wink

I actually like you Gweedo. Many people always say oh you have to be super smart, a nerd or computer geek to understand Bitcoin and figure out how to "use" it. But then you come along and remind us that intelligence is not a factor.

Why do you have just attack? Did run out of logical arguments to prove your point?

Why should I respect someone who has no respect for others?

Just cause I employ a certain method for marketing makes me not have any respect LMAO you probably have a hard time finding work then.

Anyway, you are clearly the troll in this situation, I have done nothing but respected you and your opinion and actually explained my reasoning, but you just think calling someone names makes you automatically smarter and better. That really isn't how it works. But keep thinking that. Wink

You're an idiot.

If a person starts a thread to sell or auction their belongings or services you shouldn't be trolling that thread and posting competitive products or services in that thread. That's what we are talking about. Go make a different thread with your product. Post it in your signature line etc. but do not troll competitors threads and market your products/services in their thread.

It is called marketing not trolling, I can see you never started a site.

Again, it's not marketing, it's just pure asseholery.

For every customer you gain, many more will blacklist you forever.

Asshole.

Thanks for making all your points invalid by just name calling.

A moderator already said they will delete posts marketing in other peoples' threads. Imagine if you made a thread selling and the first five replies were competitors offering other/better deals.

Free market, that is what it is called. If people can do that, then your prices weren't competitive to start.

The idea is that this is a forum for communicating about Bitcoin FIRST.  If all threads devolve into everyone out-advertising each other then the forum will become MORE useless than it is now.

I guess I thought that a user could moderate their own threads, if they are so created that way to begin with.  Doesn't that make this a moot point?

No cause if your competitive then it shouldn't happen.

An hardware wallet? Do want!

I pre-ordered mine, I hope more people do so we can put pressure on wallet program to add support.
2072  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My wallet was just hacked on: June 18, 2013, 10:40:01 AM
I just picked up a hardware wallet, and I think that will be the future OP should look into getting that.

Only what happens when you get a hardware error? Can you make a backup with those?

BIP 32 and a key phase, that you write down and lock in vault.
2073  Economy / Services / Re: Paying for College Admissions Essay in BTC on: June 18, 2013, 04:09:29 AM
Hello everyone,

I need a college admissions essay written (~600 words) and I am willing to pay BTC for it. I would like to have something that is creative and inspiring, so I am willing to give you a decent amount of time (a couple weeks if necessary). We can discuss more details later, but I will pay at least $40-$50 in BTC for quality work. If you're interested, please let me know through PM or by posting on this thread.

Prompts:
1. Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their
application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
2. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons
did you learn?
3. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you
make the same decision again?
4. Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience
there, and why is it meaningful to you?
5. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from
childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

Thanks.

Why not write your own?

Exactly if you can't write an essay for the college how do expect to do the work for that college? This deeply saddens me, this thread, cheating is never the answer.
2074  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where are my javaEE programmers? on: June 18, 2013, 03:05:46 AM
For local server I use tomcat, mysql or postgresql.

I use Google App Engine sometimes for personal projects because its free under a certain quota.  The database is not SQL and hard to use, but it is free.

So what are the benefits of using tomcat vs glassfish or even jetty?
2075  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [PREORDER] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: June 18, 2013, 02:22:51 AM
I preordered one, and I hardly do this kinda of things, so I am ready for some more security
2076  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Building a bitcoin embassy! on: June 17, 2013, 09:00:23 PM
this is amazing keep it up! I want to get something like this setup in the US also in my city

Agreed we need this in the USA, hopefully get one in NY!

It should be fairly easy to get something like this done in NY, maybe something that can be discussed at the upcoming conference.

This is why I need more time during the day so I can help setup these things LOL

If anyone in NY and needs help setting this up, I have funds and a little bit of time hit me up!

I love how quickly a topic mood changes. It was a nice friendly chat with us putting out our OPINIONS, but then it turns into a punch up.

Yeah it was nice and friendly cause no one had an opposing view, once that happens everyone is angry. Can't control yourselfs or something?
2078  Other / Meta / Re: Trolls on: June 17, 2013, 07:13:15 PM
When was the last time you saw a Pizza Hut flyer inside of a Sbarro? Do you see Windows 8 brochures inside an Apple store? Okay well then let's not "market" on other people's sales threads. That's their "store" not yours, and not a public place for you to "market"

This isn't brick and morar, first off marketing doesn't work like that cause when your in a store, you either go their for a reason or they draw you in. So Kinda is pointless to market inside a store. On a forum it is different, this is helping people make decisions. Can you please launch a company in the same space as me in month I would love to see whose will succeed and whose will fail. I can say my would be 100x better thans yours any day of the week just cause of marketing.
2079  Other / Meta / Re: Trolls on: June 17, 2013, 04:58:20 PM
But this is how the free market works and we can't even exercise that here, it is up to the consumers to do research before and if we are giving them more options to look into, I don't see the harm.

It's always been that policy here, so since people are using this forum and not another, that would mean the free market has decided already.

I know it is the policy, and I know it is that the free market has decided about this forum. I am just saying it does hinder the free market.

Do me a favor take three pairs of Jeans from American Eagle or any store of your choice, go stand inside the Gap and try and sell them. Let me know the results of your "Free market" test.

You just told me to steal! WOW dude stop I am not committing crimes for you. Also this is the internet, very different. I think if my site is better than the site advertising that is my opinion until the free market decides. I don't see a problem with it ad on a another thread, about another service that maybe even better.

Has the discourse.org forum software been looked at? It looks brilliant, imo.

http://www.discourse.org/

http://try.discourse.org/

YES and discourse is horrible! It is written on RoR just waiting for a security attack.
