So what happens when all the coins finally leave Gox?
They're going to China.

Seriously. This is a good day for any bitcoiners that suddenly want to line their pockets with yuan.

I laughed really hard at that. Not sure why.

Is it funny, or am I just tired?

Well China does have gold. Along with India to back their currency.

Guess the best solution is to bring gold back down to sub $500 USD

Update 46 hours in.

Case cover on for last 6 hours ambient room temperature 21°C

HW Errors climbing however seems system is stable.

Next I will swap out the 2 front case fans with higher cfm fans.
2084  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 13, 2013, 06:17:13 PM

I was considering that originally for my tests.
2085  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 13, 2013, 06:03:07 PM
.95 overnight

ASIC slot #1: 54.0 ℃
ASIC slot #2: 54.5 ℃
ASIC slot #3: 58.0 ℃
ASIC slot #4: 52.5 ℃

cover on, ambiente ~22 ℃

Your results are what I have noticed as well now that I have put the cover back on and using the stock fans for ventilation. However my ambient is 20 -21 ℃.

My Device temps are similar.

When I put the case cover back on. HW % went up from 4.2% to 4.48% and still going up.

The miner I have to test with has #1 stickers on them.
2086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 13, 2013, 03:47:10 PM

Excellent! The main concern raised here today is the issue of compensation for delayed shipping. I take it you will pass this along to Sam and we can expect an update tomorrow, 14th October, agreeing to compensate 1.5BTC per day late (recalculated at next difficulty rise)?

We await a positive response.

To be honest to date the most my Single Jupiter has made is shy of 12BTC as of now.

1.5BTC would be a bit much per Jupiter order day late.
2087  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 13, 2013, 03:21:49 PM
be glad if you have 8 VRMs.  be very glad.  Here is my sad experience with .95 with one of my miners from last night (till 5am this morning)

After going to .95 on my miner with all boards 4 VRMs, it blew a VRM.  The blown one still gets voltage but outputs < 1 amp current.  Also, two other boards struggle with lots of cores deactivating resulting in ~370 Gh for the miner on .95

What has happened of course, was that since I was forced to overclock a 4 VRM miner with firmware not designed for it (pre .95) it is now unstable at the lower voltage/current/wattage.

Can you explain to us, how on earth VRM modules which were NEVER turned on could drastically improve performance? The only difference between 4 VRM and 8 VRM modules is that 4 VRM module boards have less passive components (capacitors) mounted.

So I would love to hear your conspiracist expanation on how the non-functional 4 VRM worked. Some people with 4 VRMs have netter results than you have with 8 VRM, yet you believe it is not the inherent property of the hashing chip but a property of the VRM?
Interesting...

Not sure as to they why.

However if I were to speculate as to the why, I would look at the possibility that the added components may help dissipate heat from the PCB and potentially alleviate the other components thermal stress.

Edit: I forgot to add the possibility that component resistance may have been another factor. With the reduction of components one can test if supplying the vrm's with increased power potentially making the default firmware settings a bit high.

Would be great to have an official statement. However that opens up liabilities in an already turbulent situation.

2.5hours later hardware errors % goes up and speed goes down. Also power draw is at 563 watts @ 120v.

Here are the results. Firmware v0.9.5 first 24 hours ambient temp at 17°C with open case and house fan.

The last 2.5 hours case on and cooling/airflow stock from kncminer ambient room temp is 21°C

8 VRM Model.

40 Hour Update KnCminer running with open case and house fan in ambient room temp of 21°C

Firmware V0.9.5 Results

The first 24 hours had an ambient room temp of 17°C.

The last 16 hours had an ambient room temp of 21°C.

You can make reference to the earlier post for 24 hour and 12 hour results and compare the difference in performance.

I will now place the case cover over the unit and keep the room temp at 21°C to see if the air intake stock fans are adequate to ventilate the heat out of the case.

If not I will replace the intake stock fans with those found in the photo's/links posted early in this thread.

Edit: forgot to lower the power draw on the photos from 580 watts to the new 573 watts.

I propose for each order to be sent after 15/10/2013 KnC Miner giving one unit of 100GH / s for free.

What happens if you have 3 day one orders that are in the #300 range and have yet to receive a tracking number for them?

Smiley

You shed a tear and hope for some real compensation? Sorry to hear mate...

Nah no worries. Got some mates together and we made personal orders totaling 10 Jupiter units before they started taking payments.

Once they started taking payments. Any large orders had to be split up into individual pieces if you wished to take advantage of paypal.

I paid BTC. The other gents had to split up their orders. By that time within 24 hours the order queue was in the #1500+.

However they did have orders in the #300 range. Sam in an email had stated within that 7 day window that it would be combined.

I can only guess at the cause for the delay. Perhaps the notes used by the queue coordinator was not updated for those orders. And because of that it was pushed back in the queue.

It became apparent to one of my colleagues the reality that ROI in BTC would not be achieved,

You can guess what happens next, and you know KnCs new policy with respects refunds.

As you may have guessed rather then investing in hardware. You may have better success investing in companies that handle BTC transactions along with payment processes in btc.

I am a optimist by nature. The fact that I like to help out when I can does not help the matter.

Needless to say I am now the owner of that order. Smiley

In fairness to KnCs team efforts in attempting to deliver all orders on time, and the fact that unlike others who I have ordered from in the past. Who shall remain nameless.

I may yet get close to the amount of btc I had paid for back from the units.

Edit: In case your wondering, When those orders were placed the KnC reseller/distributor incentive program was not in place. So I do not expect that the program would extend back to day 1 pre-orders.

Edit2: Disclosure: I also felt it necessary to state that I have not signed up and have not taken part in the KnC reseller/distributor program.

Found out that the WU (Work Unit) is the most important value.

Careful WU includes all shares including those rejected.  You only get paid for valid shares.  In your case you probably are still coming out ahead just didn't want someone else to think higher WU is always better.  Higher WU with same or lower reject is always better.

It would be nice if cgminer had a WA (work accepted / min).

I do not go on WU alone however it is a metric that I use to gauge stability and performance overall.

I compared the 12 hour 13 hour and 24 hour results between firmware v0.9.4 and firmware v0.9.5 and found that by 24 hours I lost out on 200,000 potential accepted shares if I had gone with firmware v0.9.4 over v0.9.5

Yet I am doing a few final tests to see if that loss is worth it as firmware v0.9.4 needs ambient temps to be below 21°C in order to not start to take a performance hit.

And yes these tests were done in the same environmental conditions including network connectivity results from the pool.
2093  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 12, 2013, 10:50:32 PM
You can tell that over the course of the 24 hours firmware 0.9.5 gave more stable speeds and less hardware error %.
However firmware v0.9.4 gave more submitted shares and a WU rate of over 8200 steady.

Both firmware power usage fluctuated between 578 and 580 watts.

So more shares is better. v0.9.4 wins, or I missing something? How much luck plays role here?

I confirm that 0.94 is better for WU and pool hashrate. I submitted this in another topic :

Should I change pools or simply go back to firmware 0.94 Huh
Here's an average on 24 hours with firmware 0.94 and 0.95 :

--------------------0.940.95
Average CGminer270Gh/s274Gh/s
Average Bitminter275Gh/s263Gh/s
Consumption485 Watts  305 Watts
Temputure54 & 62°C42 & 47°C
HW2.81%0.79%

0.94
0.95

Thank you. The only benefit I can hope to get out of 0.9.5 is that it is able to recover from a throttled condition, or best case would be that the firmware could manage the temp increase in such a way as to not lower performance.

Thus for 0.9.4 does win only if you can lower your ambient room temp under 21°C and know that if the temp goes up the system will throttle and even if the temp does go back down. You will have to issue a software restart in order to gain back the performance lost.

Also if you have the ability to see what the power draw is at the wall. If it is over 600 watts then you may have to contend with the reality that one or all of your ASIC boards having VRM issues.

Lowering temps seems to solve that problem.

However I will be conducting the next test by raising the ambient temp in the room to 25°C.

This is to test what the system does over the next 12 hours.

WOW nice setup!

My friend accept donations Smiley

good luck

Thank you.

However my motivation is to help those who have been having troubles and those that are just now getting their units.
If you wish to donate then perhaps we as a community can raise the funds so the cgminer team can get ahold of a saturn and make our lives easier Smiley

Did anyone get August Kit payment for late delivery?

I'm still waiting for mine.  Order #149.

Still waiting.

I'm on the road at the moment, but will do another batch of payments before end of the weekend.

Thanks for your patience!

We will begin shipping V1 H-card-only orders on Monday.  We have about 650 cards to send out - testing has already begun.  The new V3 M-board/V2.2 H-card (overclocking) rigs should begin to arrive late next week (estimated) - then we will be focusing on testing and shipping.

I'll have some specifics for how to work with the trim pots after we get a chance to work with them.  I'm mostly interested to see how high (or low) the voltage can be adjusted.  My main concern is that voltage could be adjusted *too* high - instructions will be posted...

Regards
Dave

Thank you for the update. I am looking forward to V3 Smiley

Am i the only one around here who shit themselves when rebooting and that ultra white LED comes on.....every time the dam thing nearly gives me a heart attack!

No it got me the first time too Smiley

Then I paused and noticed no magic smoke.

All is good.

Here is the results after 13 hours on firmware v0.9.5.

I have also included the screenshot of the previous 13 hour result on firmware v0.9.4 to compare the total performance difference between firmware versions.

Both stats are results of same environmental conditions and no noticeable downtime.
