But this is how the free market works and we can't even exercise that here, it is up to the consumers to do research before and if we are giving them more options to look into, I don't see the harm.

It's always been that policy here, so since people are using this forum and not another, that would mean the free market has decided already.

I know it is the policy, and I know it is that the free market has decided about this forum. I am just saying it does hinder the free market.

It would be best to raise enough money to finish the project before starting do you not think?  Wink

Unless he is waiting to buy google, $602,400 is more than enough for software. If he wanted to he could hire me at a salary and I will work 9am-5pm on developing this forum software.
2083  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Frog: Help bring Bitmessage mainstream! on: June 17, 2013, 07:48:49 AM
Why do you need BTC 3.5 for your idea? I don't think anyone would pay without seeing a prototype, I mean we don't even have a code sample to see if your skills are capable of doing a project like this. Just give us some security here, cause this project isn't really that simple.
Servers and potentially the hiring of a designer. I can code, but I can NOT make things look pretty.
Here is my Github: https://github.com/Jaxkr
Here is an article about me (provides my identity and prevents me from scamming): http://www.timescall.com/news/longmont-local-news/ci_23032800/sunset-middle-school-student-wins-first-longmont-hackathon
Unfortunately, I can't use those prize funds for this project as they were directly invested in my college account, to avoid taxes. Tongue

I hope this doesn't come off as mean, but learn to bootstrap. I think this is actually a great lesson for a young person to learn. Cause in the real world without a prototype no one gives funds. Even without testing the market you don't really get funds. I think you should try and do as much as you can with little or no funds. Your a programmer, try and get BTC3.5 by working for someone else.

Also don't tell your parents this but college is a scam. I just graduated from college (23yrs old), and let me tell you I am not even going to use my degree (Computer Science), cause I got into bitcoins so early, it makes no sense for me to get a job. I am actually starting my own company (of the many companies I started). I think your really talented, and you should be hustling in the bitcoin community. You will be rich trust me, especially since you know python that is one of those scripting languages, that great for web or desktop.

So get out and HUSTLE, just do what you got to do. Especially now since you live at home with no expenses you can bank all this money. Wait until your 17, you be driving a Benz maybe even a ferrari to school Wink Take my advice, bootstrap, hustle, you will be big... And when your starting your own companies you come to me for funding ok.

I watch the mt gox ticker and sometimes I cry, no seriously you guys don't do that either...
2085  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: btc live price update on html page, how? on: June 17, 2013, 05:14:53 AM
Yes, you will need to use php to make a call to mtgox and get the live price.
I think it can be done solely with Javascript. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/MtGox/API/Streaming#Connecting

First off that is web sockets, so you would probably get every ticker, and most the time it is the same price. It also keeps the client having an open socket to mt gox. Also web sockets are kinda iffy they break a lot. While the short answer you can do web sockets, you can't do javascript polling, cause I know for chrome that sends up a red flag of cross site scripting.

2088  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I need to buy a gift card for someone. on: June 16, 2013, 09:03:29 PM
Would you be willing to pay a little extra Wink.

Why would I have to pay extra? I don't want to give someone my gf's information to register, I don't think she would want emails from some people around here, but if their was a service, I would use, you know expand the economy.

https://bitspend.net/

(I have no affiliation with / I give no guarantees)

I don't think they do e-gift cards, plus they want way too much information for just a gift card.

I am think I am just going to use bitinstant to paypal.
2089  Other / Off-topic / Where are my javaEE programmers? on: June 16, 2013, 07:21:41 AM
So I am working on a project and I have worked with Servlets and JSP using Jetty. It was a torrent tracker. So I know what I am doing.

What is a good server program to run servlets?

What is the difference between TomCat and GlassFish? (Beside one is apache and one is oracle)

What the difference between Tomcat/glassfish and google app engine?

What amount of data would be the required to get the benefits of hadoop?

Should I be using a datastore or mysql?
2090  Economy / Service Discussion / I need to buy a gift card for someone. on: June 16, 2013, 06:50:35 AM

Please help me out.
2091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How can I get my qt wallet to syn quicker? on: June 16, 2013, 01:54:49 AM
Need to have it opened up as fast as possible to make a transaction but at this rate it is like 10hrs away.

Upgrade your CPU, it is bounded by I/O otherwise after it syncs it will not take this much time, this is the just the first time you sync.
2092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoins become illegal? on: June 15, 2013, 11:40:57 PM
The key to keeping bitcoins legal, is to work with governments and respect their regulations. As I have stated many times before just cause we have the power to not pay taxes, or not follow regulations, doesn't mean we should. We should only execute that power in critical situations. Currently working with the government to help them understand what and how bitcoin works, is the best thing we can do.

you couldnt pay taxes on bitcoins even if you wanted to. i have 495349 coins in my wallet, what address do I send my 30% to pay for taxes?

Until you convert them into USD or some other tangible asset, they're not considered any more taxable
and that's the beauty in them
legal money laundering

regardless all my coins are cashed out anonymously, as should anyones

You completely wrong, money laundering is illegal, and people that use bitcoin as such are just going to hurt what the other community members are working so hard for. So while I am not going to say not to do that, I am just going to say think about the community and not yourself.
"money" laundering is illegal yes, but bitcoin is not money.

considering 99% of the bitcoin community does not pay taxes on their coins, i think your point of view, while not laughable, is not going to go a long ways

there is really no reason to try and legitimize bitcoins with government. you can't create a secondary currency where tax and business laws are a gray area and make the government happy with their existence. it will piss them off no matter what you do, just go about your business and be grateful for this tax free heaven that exists in 2013

well now your looking at it as one section of the community. I agree the users that don't own a business or don't make an income in bitcoins. It is ok not to pay taxes on them, until you convert it to your fiat currency, which is called the capital gains  tax. When your a business owner and your income is only bitcoins, I could easily say I made $0 which would be true, but I don't. I hope people don't treat bitcoins as an offshore account or as you put as a tax free heaven. Stuff like this makes it harder to put money into bitcoins which is important right now. Bitinstant could easily say they don't want to pay for the licensing but they do cause in the overall benefits the community. That is all I am saying is lets think like a community and not an individual. Of course you do what you want, but it just hurts people like me running and starting up business. Believe me I look and see my taxes going out it doesn't make me happy. But in my mind I say this is what is needed for the community currently. Also where did you get the number 99% don't pay taxes, cause a lot of legitimate business owners do. I would almost bet every single user of bitpay conversation tool from BTC to USD pay taxes. That is a lot of people.

2094  Other / Meta / Re: Are the mods getting paid from this forum? on: June 15, 2013, 11:22:31 PM
It is an ethical thing, are they doing it cause they paid, or are they doing it to help foster growth in the community. Also they didn't formally announce it. I see their point but also transparency is key in this community at the most.

The mods have been giving their time and effort for years without being paid, so you can't just allege they are doing it now because of wanting payments!
The reason for not publicizing it makes a lot of sense: to let people aspire to become mods without being overly influenced by wanting payment for it.

Yeah we got all that. But still, I was thinking of buying ads soon, and no where does it say that the ads are going to mods. That would be nice, cause the forum is non-profit so transparency is a big thing. At least in my opinion, and money does change people, not saying it changed any of the mods but it could happen.

Now, really, it's none of your business where the ads money is spent. You buy an ad, you get served what you paid for, an ad only, no decision power on how the forum spends the money you paid for a service that was provided.
Talk about entitlement!

I don't feel entitled at all. You are correct, it is none of my business where the ad money is being spent, I don't want the decision power at all on how the forum's money is being spent. But the forum is a big hub for the community and I think it should be as transparent as it could be, is that really too much to ask? I also agree that people who see the mod job as making money and not as a privilege in the community, if this become too publicized. I am kinda torn between being open and not publicizing it.

I was talking about when you convert to dollars or any fiat currency, you should be paying taxes on the gains. But if you own a business you should be doing your books as if you were getting dollars, and paying taxes on your income. Currently for me my only income is bitcoins yet I still pay my taxes on those coins.

Why is it a big deal if they get paid? They provide a service for all of us and in return earn some bitcoins, I don't see anything wrong here.

lol, cant understand why there are still fanboys around here..

I don.t undestand much about bitcoin. When I first get in contact with them, I lost some of my free earned bitcoins in proyects that promised a lot of things and gave me nothing. With Pyramining I found that what he says, he do, and that is a lot here where I have to trust in people I donīt know who they are.
The only thing I know from Pyramining is that he is Italian, nothing more, but I really trust him.

You can always trust an italian, cause I am italian (100%), and they never screw over their own kind.

As to the opening statement "I want to be rich" he did right by me. I say that ALL THE TIME, I've been an aspiring entrepreneur for almost 10 years http://money.cnn.com/2006/10/16/smbusiness/kid_entrepreneurs/ and as a soon to be college grad I am risking everything i own financially in an effort to start a business and "make it" you know "The american dream and all......"

The American dream? This is bitcoin and you should never risk everything you own to start a business. That is just being dumb. You should bootstrap your business as much as you can. Your probably going to fail the first company. Trust me I failed at 3 companies, one site pays for itself, and the other I sold. These were just in the bitcoin space. You have to go with that attitude that you will fail, and if you succeed, you will be working to make sure you stay at the top. Another thing that bitcoin companies have to deal with, is to know you may not have any funds the next day. Bitcoin is very young, it could go to 0, is it likely no. But I wake up every day knowing my wealth could be gone tomorrow and I am actually starting another company so it even scares me more. I always hedge, I actually have about a quarter of my wealth in dollars just incase.
