2101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: September 12, 2013, 03:20:22 PM
check out the site, new cointerra products and prices released. what do yall think?
"Where's the beef?" Disappointing to see that there is *still* nothing substantive on that website; nothing to alleviate legitimate concerns that this may be just another, albeit glossier-than-most, scam. I'll pass. There will be plenty of cheap ASIC hardware to buy in the coming months.
Agreed. But that was one hell of a price cut.
2102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Jallies on: September 12, 2013, 01:09:02 AM
No,no,no,BFL is shipping......just waiting on parts/boards/chips.......Nasser said so  Cheesy
It's so sad you don't understand engineer-speak.  To an engineer a shutdown or a halt means the line has ended and no more will ever be produced.  A delay is currently what is happening in engineer-speak, but that difference is lost on trolls.
What ISO code is that engineer-speak?

I need to be sure I am parsing it correctly.

It's actually funny - If you paid in USD, everyone who has received a bfl product will make roi.

You don't seem to understand the idea of currency exchange. Please inform me how a BFL product will make back its costs without saying "oh well bitcoins were $80 then and theyll be $200 when it is mining! hurp a derp"

I only put down bitcoins/money on something that i feel will produce more BTC in its lifetime then if i initially had just put my money into BTC
then you obviously won't be buying mining equipment anytime soon.
You heard it here first folks, bcp19 admitted that people should not be buying BFL specific hardware. At least....not if you expect to make more BTC than you paid for the hardware...
You are twisting my words again Master Shill... I did not reference any one particaular company, I meant ALL of them.  Tsk tsk tsk... we may have to revoke your shillness for this one.
Bitfury hardware does make a positive ROI, doesn't it?

Can't say the same about BFL or ASICMiner.

I am not twisting your words. The quote you used was in reference to a specific manufacturer.

Please read before making assumptions.
see above highlight.  You assumed I meant BFL cause he mentioned BFL, but I responded to the other part of his quote.  I personally believe if you don't have it in hand between now and 7-14 days from now, you won't see a positive RoI on anything from anywhere just due to the simple fact there is so much product from so many companies that is supposed to ship in the next 30-45 days.  People will soon be wishing the monthly difficulty increase was ONLY 76%.
And we come around full circle. Therefore my previous statement was spot on.
Yep, you were spot on and assumed I was only talking about 1 company.  Epic fail dude.
Or you were talking about any company, and I picked one, therefore epic win! (with exception of BitFury of course)

P.S. Yes, I am fucking with you  Grin Wink

According to Josh (Inaba), only 1% of their customers are angry or irate.

Considering you were swamped by requests...can we now assume this 1% has doubled or trippled?
I think you're jealous PG and I drank the Kool Aid and lived to tell about it.
Where is PG's report? (He is overdue?)

I prefer a crazy persons report rather than yours....hehe

lol, I have replied to at LEAST 60 messages.

60 x 100 = 6000

Assuming there are at least 20,000 customers....you are still well within his assertions. (not including everyone with previous refunds to this day)

Anyway,

=====================

I thought this might be helpful to you, but you should create a template where people can plug in the relevant information that you'll need. It should help you read through their messages alot quicker and respond quicker.

(Please keep tabs on how many messages are roughly coming in each day. I want to know (as does the community) how many 1%'s you can possibly respond to. (or for that matter...how many are seeking refunds.)

Donate to this guy folks, he is helping you get your cash back out of a sinkhole. He deserves at least a 1% donation for your recovered funds. Without him you would be squarely at -100%.

Done. I will update the progress.
Alright, now share the process and cut out the middle man.

 Kiss

I have asked that those I've helped don't share the information publicly so it doesn't get ruined for those who need help in the future and I would hope that will be respected.

I've helped everyone who's asked so far and I'm not charging for the info (although I will accept donations if warranted).
In that case, I fully support you keeping it a secret except to those that need it and come to you.

Good work, keep it up.

2114  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 10, 2013, 05:28:41 PM
I am certain it is the module, after messing around with it for a while I started to smell that infamous burning electronics smell. To further prove it's the module, I saw it spark up pretty good upon flipping the switch on... scared the crap out of me lol.

This just happened to me too.   Angry

On mine it's clearly the chip near the center of a miner with a big + sign and "680 e31" - it looks and smells burnt

In my unit two modules are connected and two are not.  The problem is on one of the connected modules, though it looks like I could separate it fairly easily.

Still searching... is there a warranty or some way to get this fixed?

What frequency were you running?

It was set to 325 mhz and oc'd using --avalon-auto

It's a b3 with ckolivas's 20130821 firmware and for options "--real-quiet --avalon-auto --avalon-fan 100 --avalon-freq 325-370 --avalon-cutoff 90 --avalon-temp 70"

Previously it would get up to the high 340's, sometimes hover around 350/351.  I never did any forced or "crazy" oc'ing, just used avalon-auto.

Last week it was stuck at 325 most of the time, and put up the expected hash rate (measured at the pool).

I got in today and found the red light on, fans not spinning, toggled the power switch, and got a loud pop and the burnt smell, I immediately shut it off and started pulling it apart.  The PSU is good, per the two testers I tried on it.

I have my a/c feeding four b3's 24/7 and the other three are doing well (no slowdown or other signs of trouble) all with temp2 in the mid 60's.

I disconnected the bad module and have the remaining three running now.  I tried changing the miner count from 32 down to 24, but that made it run like only two modules were installed.  I put it back to 32 and it's doing about 78 GH/s @325 Mhz.  Also interesting is that avalon-auto doesn't seem to be kicking in.  It's been stuck at 325 Mhz for almost half an hour now (since my last restart), just like last week.  I tried setting avalon-freq to 330-370 just to get it to move and it won't.

Could this be due to a bad flash?  I haven't seen anyone else report that problem.

Don't the two highlighted in red contradict each other as settings? How can it run "real quiet" when the fan speed is forced to 100%?

The settings highlighted in blue seem to be pretty extreme settings. 70C temperatures and 90C as the cutoff temp? Thats pretty crazy....

Did I wake up today in a different universe where running these at 70+ degrees is a good thing with a cutoff temp of 90C? The temp on these is being measured by a cheapy temp sensor that rests on the heatsink rather than on the chip. With temps like those it is almost certain to fry....

What you guys do not know is they already plan on using the 3rd gen ASICs for their very own Bitcoin Server farms.

All at the same time.  Yifu / Avalon still have not honored thousands of dollars of trade-ins ~5 months later.
Got a source?
2116  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: September 10, 2013, 05:03:07 PM
For the DIY manufacturers this is good news, as the hardware that's already at hand and would have been trash, could maybe now be used.
We've got loads of parts that have no other use now,
and with the money tied on those we'd be able to buy a decent condo.
However the point for that excercise falls away if the new chips turn out to have the same hashrate as before.

Even if they'd be given for free for the DIY manufacturers, it's still in the limit of reaching any ROI, considering what's coming from the competitors, the chips should pack quite a punch to be effective anymore at any level.
For us, electricity is free and still it looks bad.

However, that would be the only reason why I'd even consider anything from Bitsyncom anymore.
Lets hope the DIY still have the parts and plans. Hopefully they will be in a good position to get a second wind as Open Manufacturers.

I just wonder how high the hash rate could have jumped from 110nm to 55nm per chip?

Is this really gen 2 or just a die shrink disguised as gen 2?

2117  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: September 10, 2013, 04:56:51 PM
... wow ...

I'll add another theory to the list of theories on what Avalon did:

1)  110 nm Chip orders opened in April.
2)  April - June use 110 nm Chip orders to fund 55 nm chips / sign deal with TSMC using 110nm chip order money as a loan to get 55 nm chips.
3)  Order, with whatever is leftover (as an afterthought), 110 nm chips at a later date than the order should have been done (Hence them receiving their 9/4/2013 batch of 400,000 110 nm chips - if those were received at all).
4)  Act like they've had their well being threatened all the while they were busy working on 55 nm / signing contracts with TSMC.

---> 5)  Expect people to fall on the 55 nm chips because, apparently, they're compatible with 110 nm chip designs?  Therefore, even if people refund from 110 they still get the money on 55 ...

Does this seem like a somewhat valid theory?

*weilds his tin foil hat*

Edit:  On another note -->  Would it be possible to know what modifications, if any, would be needed for 55 nm chips to work on the 110 nm design presently provided on Github so that decisions can be made?  As in, are the PCB designs reusable with the 55 nm design or absolutely not?  Also, some hash numbers per chip?  Currently the newsletter implies no serious modification (serious modifications as in re manufacturing the PCBs vs minor such as different resistors / capacitors.) necessary other than maybe a new bistream for the controller board?
Whats interesting about Avalons current strategy is there is no extra development time needed for implementing (on hand) 55nm chips.

The thought crossed my mind that they might do that....

I just wonder what kind of advantages the design changes brought to the table? (Heat and electricity or extra clocking?)

No, you're not over it.  Your 40 point *I* the other day proved that along with your 35K loss rant.  You're still pissed cause you poked the bear and it ignored you, yet you poked it 40 more times while it ignored you, then you hit the bear over the head and got your ass handed to you.  I spent the weekend reading through everything you wrote on this forum up until you got your refund.  You deserved exactly what you got, and you're butthurt over it.

Correction. I *WAS* butt-hurt at the time. Who wouldn't be after waiting for a product to ship for over 10 months after one-broken-promise after another, and the hostility of their COO towards this community ? I'm only human.

You shit on any community or hobby I have an affinity towards, and I'm going to defend it.

Dealing with lawyers, attorney generals, postmasters, probation officers, and other consumer protection agencies gave me all the closure I needed to move on with my life and put my horrible consumer experience with Butterfly Labs into my rear-view mirror.

A theoretical $35k loss is academic. As the old gambers adage goes "Don't gamble it if you can't afford to lose it."

Bitfury and Buzzdave have been a pleasure to deal with.

I can attest that through his entire experience and speaking to many different people involved in the matter, he has actually gotten over it.

I am pretty sure there was a sour taste left behind, but this Xian is no longer the cheetah he once was. He has moved on to greener pastures with rabbits/BitCoins that are easier to catch. (Reliable companies, promises kept, technology that actually works as it should, etc)
2120  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs 30 day countdown to the end of September on: September 09, 2013, 04:25:21 PM
@ bcp19

Scenario,

You just blew your two front tires on the road. Lucky for you, there a tire station at the end of the road called ADL.

You hobble in with two front tires burst out. You walk up to the repair shop and tell them you need to replace two tires. The mechanic tells you that it will be 200 USD. You pay the man.

You wait patiently until the man gets around to your vehicle. He informs you after looking at it, that you indeed have two bad tires and they will need to be fully replaced. He informs you after the fact of making payment that no refunds will be given out after work has started. He pulls both rims off your vehicle and informs you that you'll need to wait.

This ordeal started at around 9am on a thursday morning. It is now 5pm. Tell me how do you feel right now?

You keep pacing back and forth and want to talk to the mechanic, the woman at the front desk fields all your questions but doesn't allow you to talk to the mechanic directly. She takes an hour between each response.

Question:

How do you feel about this?

You cannot leave the shop because you are missing two front rims, there is a delay and the work isn't being performed in a reasonable period of time.

Question:

How long is the appropriate time to wait when you aren't given an option to do anything about it?
