2141  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If The Minimum Wage Doesn't Benefit The Poor Then ?? on: January 19, 2015, 09:50:13 AM
Raising the minimum wage is another way for politicians to make themselves look good people fail to take into account that in order to pay for this they're going to force businesses out and create more inflation, it's that old problem of what's wrong with communism, if the state fixes wages or prices then everything else becomes more expensive in the long run as the free market tries to adapt to the new regime. Of course, not many will and in the end that just ends up with more people out of work since they can't afford to hire anyone.

The reason the poor are so poor isn't because of the 'evil' businesses refusing to give them a better wage, it's because of the hyperinflation currently being created by the very politicians trying to push for a minimum wage. The problem is though they don't have the maths to back up whether any of this will work, it will work in the short term but as they've chosen the narrative of blaming business owners while blatantly not looking at their own situations first.

Kind of pisses me off actually, but there you go, they've dug their own grave and I refuse to revel in their stupidity, the problems of the working poor and a destroyed middle class are not going to be solved with one simple piece of legislation. There is going to have to be catostrophic change for the problem to be really solved, I'm talking bankers getting thrown into jail and uncovering their co-conspirators.

Also, I'm not one of those Republicans who are saying businesses are flawless and the government should get off their backs, yes, there are cunts like Burger King who are making businesses easy targets, but it's the same with any group, don't think that the loudest always necessarily represent them. I bet you could find a business somewhere that pays it's employees as best it can and helps them out whenever that will probably get utterly destroyed by a minimum wage, but good luck finding solid reporting on that.
2142  Economy / Economics / Re: Proof of Stake from an austrian school perspective on: January 18, 2015, 03:04:28 PM
If Bitcoin is backed by anything and has value it is backed by mathematics, I know you claimed you didn't want to use the term intrinsic value but your conversation pretty much went that way anyway because in order for something to be traded it has to have a reason to be used in the first place.

We are at a strange point in history where we have an entire financial system and political system made up of I believe madmen and lunatics. In such a world where they can create money at a whim and destroy entire countries by printing some currency more than they should I believe that a currency that which follows a set logic and doesn't deviate from that has ended up being in high demand.

Don't get me wrong, I like precious metals, I plan to buy them myself and I understand the Austrian perspective on them, however with a possible new space race on the way there are plans by space companies to actually mine asteroids for precious metals. What's going to happen when all of that cheap metal enters the market? Even gold won't necessarily be safe despite its rarity because suddenly mining will become worthwhile again as there is a plentiful supply of metals out in space as opposed to the very expensive and dangerous business of mining from the earth's crust. Bitcoin cannot suffer from this problem because it makes itself more difficult to mine as more computing power is added to the network and there will only be 21 million coins in existence and in circulation at one time, we currently have no idea how many tonnes of assumed precious metals exist in the universe, gold might actually end up being quite common and we may end up having to peg our currencies to something far rarer.

Adding to my argument in regards to the logic of Bitcoin, it's far easier to send money across oceans, there is no regulator of Bitcoin, miners do not discriminate based on occupation, gender, ethnicity or ideology, the fees are incredibly cheap as well and there is no personal information required in order to do it, just a randomly generated address connected to a digital wallet.

There isn't really one reason that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have value, but as with anything that is traded, in order for it to have value someone must be willing to buy it and for me that's all that matters in the long run. By the way, in regards to proof of stake, it all depends on how it's done, for instance, I wouldn't be very interested in a coin that has inflation built in and rewards stakers that way, but what some do is actually just give a chunk of the miner reward away to stakers in return for holding the coin long term rather than selling it.

Quote

Now my question is : why would a payer include a fee in its transaction ?
If there is no cost in inserting a transaction in the blockchain, an altruist miner would accept to process all transactions without fees. (for the benefit of the network and for protecting his stake)

If you don't include a fee into the transaction it gets bumped back to the end of the queue so to speak so if a person ignored the fee they would end up not getting their coins sent for several years. It's very annoying when people say on interviews who actually should know better that there are no fees in cryptocurrencies when that just isn't true, the thing is the fee is just so tiny it doesn't make much of a dent into the amount your sending.
2143  Other / Meta / Re: Who are the Patrollers? on: January 18, 2015, 02:35:38 PM
Patroller? How do you mean? Patrolling for spam? I regularly report anyone I see spamming useless shit on this forum especially if they aren't actually talking to other users.

Talking actual users who are staff but are only patrollers and can only deal with Newbies.

lol to tell you the truth I didn't even know those people existed, they should probably make some tags for them Tongue

2145  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Teenager spent three years thinking she was DEAD on: January 18, 2015, 10:40:02 AM
This sounds like she has some kind of mental illness. I would say the solution would be for her to be put in a mental hospital (to put it harshly but honestly).

She's already seen a therapist and got over it lol it's right there in the post, also, guys, seriously, stop posting up the daily mail as a news source.
2146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What a drag.. waiting for just one confirmation on: January 18, 2015, 10:37:00 AM
Confirmation times are what makes sure that you don't get ripped off and that somebody has actually sent or received the funds, if you just reduced everything to 1 it would be a lot riskier though granted, I'm sure improvements will be made, you'll find that exchanges etc. do things instantly once they've confirmed the Bitcoin has entered their own networks.

The point is, this is a trustless system and confirmations are part of what makes that a reality and lets us send currency over the internet freely, if we didn't have that then you wouldn't be able to trust that someone on the other side of the world was actually sending you coins.
2147  Other / Off-topic / Re: how much coffee do you drink? on: January 18, 2015, 10:29:20 AM
I never drink coffee, unhealthy duhh

This. I never drink coffee. I do not know if is unhealthy in small amounts, probably not. But if you start drinking coffee it soon will become your habit and it will be really hard for you to function without it.

It's only if you if you drink as much as Grand_Voyageur just posted that it becomes a problem, 1 - 2 cups a day will do nothing to your system, you can get withdrawal if you drink anymore than that each day though.

Quote
I drink a full 3-cups moka pot at breakfast and a further 6 cups of coffee till the end of the day.

If you try going off that stuff ever you're going to have a pretty bad withdrawal from it.
2148  Other / Off-topic / Paypal is so stupid to use I am actually transferring my money to Bitcoin on: January 18, 2015, 10:20:28 AM
Paypal has just been getting that bad to use now that I find that it's actually easier for me to buy some Bitcoin and send it over to the domain host I use instead. The amount of interference from paypal and how it generally makes the whole process unpleasant because it demands all sorts of personal information from you and on top of that tells you to create an account with them which I will of course hardly ever use and have to remember another fucking password for.

If the conveniences of Bitcoin won't get people to adopt it, then the inconveniences of traditional payments systems will, I've fucking had it with having to enter in an entire fucking form for a digital product every time I want to buy something online. Even then with physical products all you really need is an address, you don't necessarily have to enter in your life story to every company you deal with.

I am extremly patient when it comes to this kind of bullshit, but it really is just getting worse and worse, these payments systems just keep adding more and more layers of 'security' onto their shit without knowing what the fuck they are doing and they still end up getting hacked in the end. Meanwhile exchanges like Bitstamp just has a simple login system and they're doing just fine, I'm with the co-operative bank and I have to enter all sorts of bullshit before I can even look at my own funds nevermind transfer or spend anything!

I want to know when episode 6 is coming out, apparently he's nearly done with it but bah Tongue the next one is going to be about Bitcoin, the fact that he's clearly got some and will most likely end up experimenting with it will likely mean he won't be full of shit when he talks about it.

he is not an idiot like peter schiff. so you are right  Wink

lol I didn't say that Tongue Also, I don't think Peter is an idiot, I think he's just being dismissive of Bitcoin like other people are without having looked at it properly, something I just don't fucking understand since it's open source and there's that much information available about it.

Yeah, I think it's mainly to do with Nazi symbols though I didn't know there was hate speech laws as well.

2153  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What about the Thousands in Nigeria on: January 17, 2015, 04:52:00 PM
It's simple, westerners ( particularly Americans ) don't give a fuck if people with brown skin are involved, that's why it's okay to make games etc. that show countless numbers of dark skinned people getting slaughtered but not anyone who's white, oh but wait, in military shooters etc. they might throw in a black or asian person in for some diversity as one of the main characters that shoots them all up to make it okay again.

Saw that posted elsewhere, that website is brilliant, I think we do need to keep a record of how many times the news journalist were and still are wrong about Bitcoin.

You seem unaware that I am an actual Anarchist, even democratic wise I don't think these governments truly represent the people, only direct democracy would really be capable of that because if a politician decides to act on their own they can be put in their place. Also, in regards to submitting to the majority, why? If your intentions are peaceful, then living differently from the majority shouldn't be a problem, but with current western democracy we actually have mob rule more than anything where it's voting blocs that win the day rather than an actual majority.
2159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Satoshi Nakamoto Remains Anonymous on: January 17, 2015, 09:43:44 AM
He did exactly the sort of thing I'd do if I ever discovered something as big as Bitcoin, release it open source across the net and get the fuck out of there, if he had kept working on the code, even working on it after releasing it, he'd immediately become a target, supposedly even Amir Taaki has been chased up by government recruiters before.

The people who make up shit about Satoshi either don't realise how serious an impact cryptocurrencies are going to have on finance and they don't appreciate the kind of enemies people who go up against the finance sector face.

I like this quote, but these beauracrats are utterly useless at regulating things they don't understand, hardly any of them will use a computer on a regular basis, their assistants could probably do a better job of writing up laws for it.
