Here we go again.

How would your fairer forging system work?

Quote
What about cutting upper limit of forging power at couple of thousand NXT?

Then the large stakeholder splits his account and still forges most of the fees.

Get rewarded by letting a node run in general. Not according to how much nxt someone possesses. Maybe also cut forging power at an upper limit.

*snip*

This is what a lot of people wanted and that led to Jl777 creating Nodecoin. That opened another can of worms  Grin Some thought this was good, some thought it was damaging.

(I am watching from the sidelines as I have been through this discussion a couple of times but I think it is important to go through this as many times as needed, otherwise people's gut reaction is to think the whole system is skewed to 'the rich'. Rather than it being pretty much a necessity, as Proof of Stake is how the blockchain is secured. The value in Nxt is what it can do and what is promised in the future, not how much someone can get out of it before they move to the next coin. And I am not accusing anyone of this  Grin).

Re: inclusion of Nxt fao the author

Please see the following link for initial stakeholders and the initial bountiesfor development
http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/FAQ#The_original_stakeholders_are_hoarding_their_coins

There is also this infographic re: current distribution, slightly out of date (Feb 2014) but a re newed analysis would almost certainly continue the trend to more distribution rather than a move the concentration. It shows nxt is less concentrated now than bitcoin is after 5 years.

Please ask if you have any queries

Is this thread for building a coin or a cult, everyday it is getting harder to tell Cheesy

Nobody interested in the new tech? Changes to the POS mechanism are being tested, I get the feeling there have been an odd tweak but nobody knows or just won't tell   Roll Eyes

Or have I missed it while skimming past everything else in here?

The new design of http://www.nxtcommunity.org/ is just amazing. I'm very optimistic that NXT will certainly be the leading crypto currency in the future.

2165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 02, 2014, 10:48:44 PM
The author of the investigation into instamines and fastmines is keen to add nxt, msc etc to the comparison.

The nature of Nxt's 100% pos is that all coins that ever exist need to be created at the start for it to work. We have no inflation and if you have a numerator of people forging, you need to know what the denominator is to calculate the target. It would be easy to interpret this as '100% instamine' and if have offered a method of comparing nxt in my last post.

The author is asking for solid links he can review himself to confirm any statements I.e. length of 'ipo', number of founders, giveaways/bounties/selling after initial distribution, raw data on current distribution etc.

Can people in the know post links and explanations here pls:

Thanks Grin

Also, is there an up to date distribution comparison with bitcoin somewhere?

Thanks Grin

Anyone know any more or have any good links for the changes to the POS mechanism?

Do you mean the announced changes from rat4?
The changes are shown in detail here:
https://github.com/rat4/blackcoin/compare/master...protocolv2

Thank you.

Is there an updated wallet we need to download?  Or does the change take effect with the blockchain synch?

It is currenty purely a test, no new protocol just yet. This has to be tested extensively first.

Has rat4/anyone else done a press release for this? What were the criticisms (s)he is trying to address and how will the new system differ from the previous one?

Edit: If it is a test the press release might be ott, granted. But investors and potential investors will still be curious.

We should be making more noise about this if the testing is successful.

rat4 improving the the proof of stake algorithm would be a MAJOR bit of news.

It's an advancement of cryptocurrency.

I also strongly believe a portion of Peercoin investors will gain interest in Blackcoin if we improve upon their protocol.

Also nxt holders would be willing to get on the black train.

Steady on, don't go overboard  Cheesy Wink

Double "you" sounds nice. People still probably like more "the". But the other words? Could be also:

Light
Cheap
Fast
Efficient

I always think of what my mother would think if she read these. I like that it is simple and suits whoever is reading it. I like that 'decentralized' hasn't been used, "the future is Nxt" is a shorthand for this in my mind that the public can relate to, includind my ma!

What a shallow analysis.

I look forward to reading your improvements. Please post the link here when you have uploaded it.

This and your coming analysis is good for the crypto world as it is "cross-crypto" so bias will be minimised.

I just posted this in response to criticism of Nxt's distribution in the investigation of instamines thread (criticism from others, not the author)  I now it is re-raking over old ground but I couldn't help myself  Cheesy

Are you like, deliberately excluding the worst distributed coin of all, NXT?
Theres no excuse pal, it is up there on the high market cap list.
Here you go: NXT coin-100 % insta pre mine shared by 70 early adopters.

There were 6 weeks to join the IPO for Nxt and coins* were distributed on a proportion of how much BTC you gave. This was also capped at a maximum of 1 BTC. i.e. if you gave 0.1% of funds collected you got 0.1% of the coins, 5% of what was collected you get 5% of the coins.

Only 100 or so people came forward in 6 weeks and then only 73 of those claimed the coins that they were entitled to. They understood, as the first POS, that nobody would join them if they hoarded their coins so there was an orgy of bounties, selling and giveaways. When comparing POS coins, perhaps this period should be judged as the distribution phase? As the nature of pure POS requires all coins to be created at once. If there were only 73 holders now then Nxt wouldn't be valued at 10s of millions of dollars.

The tech was then released and this is what gave the coin its value when people understood what was being built. It also has provided the funds to build, arguably, the most advanced cryptographic platform devised so far (I won't go into details to avoid looking like advertising but start another thread and we can discuss it there).

Finally, the initial distribution is moot as the distribution between accounts now is better than bitcoin's and improving slowly all the time, all achieved in a few months. I can dig out the links if the auther would like to see them.

I for one would welcome the author's inclusion of Nxt for all to see, as I think you would be surprised that it would come out the other side with a good overall report. Though comparison should be to Ripple, Counterparty and Mastercoin as you would comparing apples with oranges. These are also striving to beyond being solely a currency.

*(these are not generally referred to as coins as this limits what Nxt actually is peoples minds, they are considered tokens for the Nxt Crypto Platform's features)

yes, i agree

I was going to say the same. This is my favourite one yet tho Grin

Also, on the no leaders, no kings and then all the little men popping up in a row... it might be almost accurate of this forum but still make every other one a little lady popping up! Grin and add 'or queens' or something too  Wink don't forget the ladies  Wink

The Asset Exchange will go live in Nxt at block 135,000! A lot of work has been done to reach this landmark.

Great work guys.  I wish I owned more NXT.

For those interested in Launch day (or soon after IPOs) on the Asset Exchange, you can look here for a list of companies that have made annoucements (though I have been meaning to update the OP so it is easier to follow  Grin)

James is launching a couple of his interesting projects and Graviton will be moving DGEX shares to the exchange in the days/weeks after initial launch. Anon136 has announce his silver bullion company but in the forum but has yet to confirm in the thread below his intentions. Exciting!  Grin

suppose i'm trading one of Anon136's silver bullion coupons on the NXT decentralised exchange.   Can I redeem it for the silver bar and how?

I asked Anon in his thread here >>>> https://nxtforum.org/nxt-projects/anon136's-silver-bullion-gateway/
