the culture predominant in Africa does not led itself toward economic progress

Yes this is exactly right. Its all in the culture. Westerners happened to stumble upon a set of values that are conducive to wealth creation while the africans have, for various reasons, not developed these sorts of values. The values that africans have are actually sort of noble, its not for lack of morality or anything like that, its unfortunate that the right values for wealth creation are so unintuitive.

Guess it's time to hand out copies of Atlas Shrugged, instead of bibles.

Well said sir.

Except for one point. Bibles are way more important, because they lead people to eternal life.

You're silly.

If amagi is back ordered like previous poster says, go with agora. I've bought from both. Both delivered exactly what they promised to deliver and i have no complaints about the product but I've had delays with amagi before and never had a delay with agora.

my list

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead

Yep i agree. These are my top 3 also. So you may value my input on what comes in my 4th place. Do check out venture bros if you get a chance. It starts out a bit slow, as most shows do, but it really finds its footing later in the first season and second.

I have seen all the episodes of both Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, but I was never able to get into Walking Dead.   I am not into Zombie type shows or movies...

It is true that walking dead is not of the same caliber as the other two.

They lack stable institutions of private property and there is a culture of social responsibility. The first is relatively strait forward so let me explain in more depth the second. By the second i mean that, if one is successful he is expected to give the fruits of his success to the less successful in his society. This means that there is both less incentive to become successful. But more importantly that when one does become successful, generally as a result of making savvy decisions, he is obliged to give the products of his savvy decision making to people who are less fortunate. People who are less fortunate are generally less fortunate because they make less savvy decisions with how to apply their resources. This constitutes a transfer from good decision makers to bad decision makers any time there is savings. It obstructs the process of capital accumulation. Wealth that would have been plowed back into the economy to create new means of production for future prosperity, is instead used on consumption in the here and now. Thus they remain in a state almost entirely devoid of all but the most rudimentary capital infrastructure.

"going from a polluting energy source to a cleaner one" is improving.
But it is not "improving Growth".
Because when you begin to change your energy source to a cleaner one, you loose growth (the first move from oil/nuclear to wind/sun will costs a lot: lack of energy, costs of imported energy during the transition, costs of "disarming" and "cleaning" nuclear plants).

I repeat, our economic model is the true problem.

We cant stand for long time this run in order to see richest get richer.
Our modern Growth is:
1: very unequal.
2: very pollutant.

We must redefine the Growth dogma: i.e: Economic growth (which is the increase in the market value of the goods and services).
A sort of "Quality growth": maybe the increase of services, DURABLE goods, quality of living (passive housing, air quality...)

There is no "our economic model". There are only individuals acting individually in the pursuit of the ends that are meaningful to them. There is no "guy" sitting onto of some big chair instructing everyone in how to structure production in such a way as to ensure that goods are not durable, means of production are wasted in the production process, and ever more resources are consumed in the production of goods over time.

Anyway i dont know where this something for nothing mentality comes from. Sure firms could produce products that last longer, but only at a cost. They cant just make them last longer and charge the same price. And a higher price is a reflection of the resources that went into developing the product. So it lasts longer but only at the cost of consuming more resources. Its a wash from an environmental standpoint. If they could charge double the price but make it last 4 times as long, than they would, because consumers would benefit from the ability to resell the product. So every product on the market exists along a relatively predicable line of cost to reliability. Sure you can choose to buy flat packed furniture that will wear out in a couple of years, but its made out of saw dust and glue. So the resources that went into it are significantly less valuable than treated hard wood. This is what you see everywhere. Sure you could point to something like electronics as a counter example except that the technology in electronics becomes antiquated every 2-4 years, so it makes a lot less sense to design it to last longer than that. You may argue yea but you can still use an old cell phone, it still works. But actually that would be a loss to efficiency since newer electronics increase productivity. Even if someone wanted to save the environment, that was their goal, it wouldnt make sense to use an old cell phone because the new one saves you so much time that you have more time to work on inventing new wind mills or w/e you environmentalists do.

I hope you don't mind but I'm also going to plug Storj, Burst and Maidsafe, all alternatives to this mess, I think this will be the answer to the police raids, death to the copyright industry! I haven't heard of tribler either but I'll go and take a look.

awesome. i am aware of maidsafe but ill have to take a look at burst and storj.

They just took down the pirate bay. And now eztv is offline. Btjunkie was the best ever and its been killed also. Along with who knows how many others. Tribler is an amazing alternative that's completely decentralized and open source. It has no centralized attack vectors for the state to attack. (its a lot like bitcoin) But for some unknown reason it has almost no community support. This project really should have more community support.

Also just so you know. It doesnt take a lot to become involved in helping out. Tribler has all of the same functionality is traditional torrent software like utorrent, but just by using it instead as your default torrent application for all day to day torrent needs, you will be supporting free speech in a way that isnt possible with more traditional software.

Beyond moronic...

Its easy to think this but i dont think its right. I think that they knew exactly what they were doing. And i think this is a perfect way for them to achieve their goals. You just have to understand that their "cause" has nothing to do with saving the planet and everything to do with contriving scenarios situations that allow them to look down on everyone else with smug satisfaction.

Instead of real reality where they are a bunch of delusional narcissistic cunts they substitute in their own minds an imaginary reality where you are forwarding the cause of the death of all life and they are the thin line between this world and that outcome. In other words they are inventing an imaginary reality where they are not just a little bit better than you, but infinitely better than you. These are the same sorts of people who when ever you buy a new car they have to buy one thats exactly 1000 dollars more expensive, only they are the absolute most extreme on that spectrum. A better car is not good enough to satisfy their egos. Inorder to satisfy their egos they need for you to be a concentration camp gas chamber operator and they are jew smuggler. That's how much better than you they have to be in order to be satisfied. They cant achieve that in the real world so they make up a pretend reality. That's what this is all about.

A story like this fits perfectly into that narrative. Look at how far they are willing to go inorder to save you from yourself. They are so benevolent and good that they are willing to risk being arrested and even worse, desecrate a historic sight, something event they would admit is a terrible thing to do but permissible when the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Did you desocrate any historic sights lately inorder to save the world? No? That is how much better than you they are.

Here’s What Happens To Sewage On Cruise Lines

Cruise ships released over one billion gallons of sewage into the ocean in 2014, according to a new report from Friends of the Earth.

The analysis, which worked off of federal data, did show that some of the 16 cruise lines assessed are slowly becoming more environmentally friendly. But according to the press release from environmental group Friends of the Earth (FOE), over 40 percent of the 167 ships in operation still operate using waste treatment technology that’s more than 35 years old. “Such antiquated treatment systems leave harmful levels of fecal matter, bacteria, heavy metals and other contaminants in the water,” FOE noted.

Federal law requires that cruise ships only dump treated wastewater if they are within three nautical miles of shore. But beyond that point, it’s essentially a free-for-all.

FOE also cites data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which shows “an average cruise ship with 3,000 passengers and crew produces about 21,000 gallons of sewage a day — enough to fill 10 backyard swimming pools in a week. That adds up to more than one billion gallons a year for the industry.” FOE also acknowledges this is likely “a conservative estimate,” because newer ships can carry up to 8,000 passengers and crew members, and because their analysis does not cover all ships and fleets worldwide.

“This is an industry worth billions of dollars that could install the most advanced sewage treatment and air pollution reduction technology available,” said Marcie Keever, the oceans and vessels program director at FOE. “We’re encouraged that some cruise lines are taking incremental steps to improve their performance, but the entire industry must stop hiding behind weak regulations and take action to make sure the oceans their ships travel remain as clear as the photos in cruise brochures.”

The centerpiece of FOE’s analysis was their Cruise Ship Report Card, which has come out every year since 2009. Up through 2013, the report card had graded the cruise lines on three metrics: the quality of their sewage treatment technology, how much they reduce their air pollution through the use of cleaner fuels and plugging into onshore power, and how well they comply with water quality standards — especially those established by the State of Alaska to protect its coasts.

But for the 2014 report, all 16 cruise lines apparently refused to respond to FOE’s request for information on their pollution reduction efforts — forcing the group to rely on federal data. This also inspired FOE to add a fourth transparency metric to the report card, for which all 16 cruise lines received an “F.”

Outside of the transparency issue, Disney Cruise Lines is apparently the most environmentally friendly, scoring an A for sewage treatment, a B- for air pollution reduction, and an A for water quality compliance. Carnival, by contrast, scored an A on water quality compliance, but an F on sewage treatment and a D on air pollution.

According to FOE, data from EPA also shows that “each day an average cruise ship is at sea it emits more sulfur dioxide than 13 million cars and more soot than one million cars.” But new fuel standards will kick in next year for both the United States and Canada, which should reduce sulfur emissions from each ship by 97 percent, and cut the emissions of soot by 85 percent.

So ignoring the fact that poop is basically the most bio degradable material imaginable and would be eaten up by ocean life and incorporated into the food chain almost instantly, I did some back of the napkin calculations anyway, just to show that it is not a single absurdity we are dealing with here, but layers of absurdity.

A google search for

how many gallons are the oceans

returns this

Quote
The volume of all water would be about 332.5 million cubic miles (mi3), or 1,386 million cubic kilometers (km3). A cubic mile of water equals more than 1.1 trillion gallons. A cubic kilometer of water equals about 264 billion gallons.

332,500,000 times 1,100,000,000,000 equals 365,750,000,000,000,000,000. Thats how many gallons of water there are in the worlds oceans. So lets divide 1,000,000,000 into 365,750,000,000,000,000,000 and see what percentage of what was formerly the worlds ocean has been displaced by this dastardly dumping (pun intended).  We get 0.000000000002734108. But that is decimal notation so lets move it over 2 places and make it a percent. And we get 0.0000000002734108%.

These environmental wackos want us to believe that cruise ship patrons should be paying noticeably higher prices for their cruises in-order prevent the ocean from being 0.0000000002734108% contaminated by one of the safest and most environmentally friendly things you could ever dump into an ocean.

THIS IS WHY EVERYONE HATES YOU

Maybe after we solve the human pooping problem we can put diapers on all the fish too.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

WOW! Good luck with this project. It looks amazing.

using my trezors almost daily i can say it IS amazing.

I do escrow for people here on the forums and trezor helps so much. Before i had to chose security or ease of use and since i was holding other peoples money i had to chose security so everything was a big pain. Back and forth to my air gaped computer all the time, copying bitcoin addresses over by hand sometimes. Now its secure and easy. So yea, seconded.

I do indeed for a fact get a $10,000 bonus for getting published in any international peer reviewed journal as well as all the other professors at my university.

Let me ask you something. A simple thought experiment.

Let us suppose arguendo that global warming is complete hogwash. Something is wrong in the science. Some variable is wrong in all the models due to some faulty measurement or assumption. Take your pick what ever is the most plausible reason you can conceive of for how the prediction of catastrophic climate could in theory be wrong. Just suppose, for the moment, for the sake of discussion, that that scenario is in fact the case, how ever unlikely you believe that may be. Suppose you go to one of these scientifically peer reviewed journals to submit this paper. This paper will show that infact the skills that you yourself and the vast majority of people who will be peer reviewing it spent years or decades learning are now no longer necessary. And that a good 75 percent of them atleast will need to retool themselves. Go back to school for another 6-8 years to learn some other new inorder to reclaim the sort of money and status that he had in his previous position except in a new field of study.

What do you think is going to happen? How likely would you be to get your 10k for submitting a paper like this compared to one which either justified the investments of the people reviewing it or made an argument for why they should have even more resources placed at their disposal? How will these incentives effect the people reviewing the paper? How will they effect the sorts of research that people like yourself try to pursue? Do you think the opposition to the sort of research which would render the researchers unemployed requires conspiracy? Or do you suppose that humans come built in with sub conscious defense mechanisms which provide a means protecting them from cognitive dissonance and destruction of their social status at the same time? Sub conscious defense mechanisms that allow them to not pursue the lines of research which would destroy their way of life while still maintaining their belief in their own capacity for objectivity and altruism.

Just some things to think about.

Kill Your Pet Dog To Save World From Global Warming...

Well if this logic applies to dogs than surely it applies to wolves also. Wolves eat meat. Oh and tigers. We better get rid of those also. Orcas too. I wonder if this guy supports reducing the tiger population even further inorder to protect the environment. Something tells me probably not.

Keep a small amount of bitcoin in an easily accessible wallet and them keep the rest secure on your Trezor somewhere safe at home.

But the whole point of hardware wallets is that they can be used with untrusted computers, such as one may have to use while traveling.

That is what its for. For sending from untrusted computers. Such as your own computer. For example.

That little plastic bit where the cord wraps around seems pretty sturdy. Im sure you can think of something to interface with that.
