2183  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Future of earning with my 1.6TH Cointerra on: May 06, 2014, 11:44:16 AM

Guys these Chinese guys are making big money...and speculating the price when they want.

They are indeed, around 3800 new BTC are mined everyday in average; most of them are probably hold

The beauty is you can get 100BTC for just 45,000USD and be very well positioned for the next spike up in price; no mining, no additional costs, just 45,000USD
2184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: May 06, 2014, 11:41:39 AM
i believe, all have notice a decline in amount wagered at JD. FAQ claims, that part of the 10% commission is used for marketing, to attract new players. what is being done in particular?

more, what has interested for a while - what is the consumer behavior at JD:
- can decline in BTC price be linked to decline in amounts wagered? like, more people are divesting from BTC = less potential players; (this can be seen today)
- or is it the other way around - cheaper BTC price encourages to take risk betting?
- do players with smaller balances likely lose more of their balance or all of it in comparison with players with bigger balances (guess, only dooglus could have ane idea of this).

o.

I would think that cheaper BTC means more BTC wagered but cheaper BTC may mean negative news about Bitcoin so people are less involved and there are less new comers

After the spike up in price in November people divested, I think the number of players keep growing but the amount wagered didn't grow (to be verified)
2185  Economy / Economics / Re: Would it be possible to create a distributed bitcoin price stabilizer? on: May 06, 2014, 11:37:23 AM
Currently there are only 12 million or so coins out there, and maximum only 10% of that is in circulation, about 1 million coins. If there is one million bitcoiners back it, each one promise to put in $1000 to the buy wall, then the price will never get below $1000.

Usually the required fiat money reserve is much less, since the price is decided by the daily coin supply, which is around 5000 to 20000 coins, and the daily purchase of 5-20 million USD will keep a price of $1000, requiring only 5-20 USD per day from each bitcoiner, if there are one million of them

One idea I had was a group of people that wished to stabilize the price to get together and like your idea of promising to put in $1000 to the buy wall, each person would get a price and amount such as $1000.0408 and when that price is sold they get another number (automatically created via software). Each person can verify that they are still part of the group as all of the bids and asks are shown on the exchange.

The reason for having a large wall on the largest exchange would mean that the arbitragers are working for you instead of the need to put it on each exchange.

But outside of some desire or loyalty to keep the price stable, if there is a financial incentive then many people will sign up and it will organically balance out.

As for the idea that this is price fixing or market manipulation...it would still allow for the gradual movement of the price. If great news occurs and there is upward pressure then the price will gradually rise. Same for falling gradually. What it would help with is someone going to buy groceries with bitcoin when the price is at $450 then you get home and the price is $500.

The stability will come with a larger user base and more liquidity, but this could stabilize it in the mean time.

Why would 1000$ be a good price? If it needs to be higher the selling wall will end up disappearing and the price will go up again; the process will just have take the coins out of the members who participated

There is no substitute to the market and competition

I'm very glad! I will be in Paris next week so I hope I can try out new ATM  Roll Eyes

3800 new bitcoins everyday, only a fraction arrive on the exchanges but Bitcoin needs to grow for the price to grow, ATMs can help tremendously

2189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1,000,000 bits = 1 bitcoin. Future-proofing Bitcoin for common usage? VOTE on: May 05, 2014, 06:57:21 PM
Nobody should or can impose people to use a certain unit. You can use whatever you wish. However I'm in the camp of promoting the use of bits and want it available in most major wallets and services. As I myself am part of running the largest Bitcoin website in Finland I can contribute on my end. However it needs to be a community effort.

The real potential for confusion comes from using different units. Right now there is already use of BTC and mBTC and now we're bringing in the rebranded µBTC. From my point of view this will simply replace the use of mBTC and perhaps become the default unit instead of just an alternative.

µBTC=uBTC and it is not entirely clear for everyone at first

1bitcoin=1,000,000bits, it is convenient and bit&bitcoin have the same root

Would be nice to see LuckyBit campaign listed in OP, too!

0.1/month for Hero/Sr; you can earn that if you post 83 posts with PD
2191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 05, 2014, 06:13:54 PM
Why is everyone all butthurt in this thread yet again? All this bickering is such a downer. It's a beautiful day, Bitcoins are great!

People are willing to give you over $400 for just one!!

Ripple got a bank, doge got a car, crypto-currency is becoming more and more a normal daily thing.

Brighter days are ahead my friends, just be mindful of the bumps.

Adoption takes time, most people that know about Bitcoin probably learn about it in the last 8months

I went into hibernate mode with my bitcoins. I don't even bother look at the price that much. Once every few weeks I reckon. I will consider getting excited once the price is over 1000 again or it goes to 0 and I can finally remove the client from my PC.

See you in a month or two. I am just mining litecoins right now. Not bother selling/trading them either.

A lot of people think like you; people that stress out every time there is a 10% drop will end up selling too early
2192  Economy / Gambling / Re: EveryDice.com | 0.99% Edge - Instant Cashout - Invest - Referral - Mobile - Fair on: May 05, 2014, 04:01:30 PM
I'm trying out that ref link generator, anyone up for free 0.0001BTC?  Wink

https://everydice.com/?r=254&t=vkWvYLitZD

edit: that link is supposed to work once only, just in case  Grin

Thanks but it is empty already; you get 1000s/minute on PD

If there's no house edge, you'd get 9btc profit, so the 0.099btc gap is the house fee.
Ah, yes. I guess it doesn't really matter if you call it "house edge" or just a "commission fee," it's the same thing in this case. So a 0.99% fee compared to SatoshiDice's 1.9%. Pretty reasonable. Why is SD still so popular, then?

Thats the thing its not still popular.

I wonder how much bets they get, is there a way to know?
2193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: May 05, 2014, 03:51:10 PM
Great! I was fearing you were in the gambler's fallacy :-)

May I ask you why you are so interested in the busting probability of funny martingales?

You can ask, but I don't know what to tell you.

I'm interested in mathematics, and this seems like it should have a neat solution.

I don't know that you can call it a "martingale" by the way, since it doesn't reset on a win.

If you are interested in martingale / gamblers fallacy / hothand (as I am) Its worth looking at the Fibonacci variants of Martingale. I havnt read all 216 pages of this thread but I did do a search for the term Fibonacci and nothing came up. For example:
Start with the Fibonacci series: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21 .... starting with 1:

a) Place 50/50 bet
b) If win, increase 1 step
c) If lose, go back 2 steps

The psychology is that you lose only 1 unit 50% of the time, but the other 50% of the time the sky is the limit! So the "bust" in this case is not losing your pot in a streak of bad luck, but rather, having a streak of good luck and hitting the just/dice limit.

From an entertainment point of view, i believe you can play fibonacci much longer then classic Martingale (assuming 1 unit as the initial bet). I dont think it changes the houses expected value, aside from possibly increasing the propensity for he user to play again through positive reinforcement.

Just a few years ago a psychologist (Daniel Kahaneman) won the nobel prize in economics for related work in behavioral economics. ANyhow.... great discussion, and I think the math behind the JD website is very very cool!

(Fibonacci caveat - Strictly speaking, you want to start with 1 unit, then multiply repeatedly by Phi [~1.68=sqrt(5)+1)/2] which quickly converges to the more popular integer series. Phi is one of those cool constants related to DaVinci, Pi, pythagoras and that 3x3 grid on your iphone camara. )

It is interesting to get the most excitement and fun out of your betting experience but it doesn't change the house edge

You should bet as you like and come up with your own fun way to do so since the goal should be to get entertained
2194  Economy / Gambling / Re: EveryDice.com | Referral Bonus! on: May 05, 2014, 03:48:03 PM
How has it been working so far?
Did the ref get their money? You could always create a new account for each ref to easily keep track if ED allows you to do so

PD3 will able referring, I can't wait to see the deal there
2195  Economy / Speculation / Re: RIGHT TIME TO SELL??? on: May 05, 2014, 03:47:17 PM
Right time to sell?

hmm i'll do that when Bitcoin moves to/around a new ATH. Selling 10 coins of my stack and rebuy them all when Bitcoin is at low-trend; woud be around $1500. I repeat that for the comming years.

I got my popcorn ready!

That is the best way not to be holding when it spikes up tremendously, how will you know we are at the top? You may be mistaken, if you are an amateur trader you probably will sell low and buy high and end up with less bitcoins that you would have if you bought and hold or bought and invest
2196  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: May 05, 2014, 03:45:23 PM
I don't dismiss your post. The bars on top and bottom make it stand out more, and also make it so that you cant put stuff visibly below the Primedice logo. If you post in the Ritz thread and are from Primedice, you get your post deleted.

You don't automatically get your post deleted if you work for Primedice and post in Ritz's thread, and you can check the thread right now to confirm that. Further, even if that was the case, it's not as if I have any influence over that, and I don't think that's what brush242 was getting at.

But anyway, thanks for not dismissing it outright just because I don't work for PD.

EDIT: as an example of what I was saying, boumalo and howzar both have posts in the latest page of Ritz's thread.

Did someone write my name? Haha yes I have posted in ritz s campaign Smiley

I think he deletes if you talk badly about RGC or the sig campaign or if you are outright out of topic; asking about his casino can be considered out of topic

426/539 79% of the voters agree that bits is better than milibitcoins or bitcoins as the main unit; I like the idea but I am a bit divided wether it should be impose or not; we don't even know what will Bitcoin be mainly used for
2198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: May 05, 2014, 12:33:57 PM
People buy accounts that invested and lost to save the 10% cut
I don't understand this 10% cut. Care to explain?

"The site currently charges a 10% commission on net investment profits to cover expenses such as advertising, server hosting, etc. The commission rate is subject to change. Notice will be given in this paragraph 7 clear days before any rate change takes effect.

Commission is charged when profits are divested, or at midnight (UTC) on Sunday each week, whichever happens sooner. Commission is never charged twice on the same profits. For example if you invest 100 BTC and it grows to 110 BTC by the end of the first week, you will be charged 10% of your 10 BTC profit. If your remaining 109 BTC investment then shrinks to 105 BTC over the next week, you will not be charged any commission at the end of that week. And then, if it grows to 119 BTC by the end of the 3rd week, you will only be charged 10% commission on the new 10 BTC of profit over the previous high of 109 BTC. At any point you could divest up to your original investment of 100 BTC without being charged commission since we consider that when divesting you divest the original investment first, and profits later."

if you became a full member in the month then you get paid that rate.
: he was referring to the Member rate

You can look for other responses to the same question in this thread and each and every time it has been the same answer : the old rate for the current month and the new rate only for next month

I think there has been exceptions when the member was becoming Full Member a day or two before the next period but you became Full Member way before the next period
Get your facts right before making any point..! The member complaining about it got paid Full member rates that is 0.0005/Post according to last month's rates..!

Oh right it is confusing since the RGC Member's rate are 0.0005/post now and RGC previously say he wasn't paying the higher rate if the member was upgraded during the campaign
