1481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: High Touch on: June 16, 2014, 08:57:36 AM
A good gambling operation is inherently "high touch". He defined that as a place where you can go where there is a buzz of human activity, and people pay attention to you if you are a flea or a whale.

I try to treat everyone the same, no matter what their bankroll, to the point of making a point not to look at people's balances most of the time.

That can lead to problems, with high rollers feeling snubbed because I don't go the extra mile to cater to them.  One guy was upset that it took over an hour for me to manually process a large withdrawal that he requested on a Sunday afternoon.  Another seems upset that I don't buy him steak dinners when he loses, though I think that is mostly tongue in cheek.

I'm sure most whales recognise that all the "free stuff" they get at the big casinos is paid for by the large house edge on the games they play.

JD is pretty different than brick and mortars casinos even if some small aspects of the businesses may be the same

297players registered so far and a prizepool of 2BTC so the equivalent of 0.0067/player and probably 10% of the players will not be here to play it and some will not play it seriously so the value of each ticket is probably closer or higher than 0.01

297 is the number of seats.  The number registered is less than half that at the moment I think.

Of the >2000 accounts that qualify for a seat, many are idle and forgotten.

It's quite likely that the game will kick off with less than 200 people playing.

Note also that there is a 0.5 BTC bounty on both my head and Deb's, making the total prize pool effectively 3 BTC.

Doesn't that make the value of a ticket around 0.015 BTC?

Correct
1482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: June 16, 2014, 08:54:21 AM
Why is this thread so long?

Mostly because I hijacked it and use it as a place to post anecdotes of the Martingales that happen daily on my dice sites.

Here's one from a few hours ago.  In this case it didn't works:

Here's the tail end of the betting:

His martingale was doing great until it wasn't Grin

And now we're sitting between $500 and $600.  Will we be kicking ourselves that we didn't sell before the price dropped to $2 again?  Or because we did sell and the price climbed to $10k?  I don't know...

Well of course if you did know, then you'd have a skill that could make you billions. I like how some of the Bitcoin owners post about converting to "fiat". They've turned the tables so that the state sponsored currency seems like the vaporware.

I am reminded of the anti-digit dialing league that was formed to protest area codes in the late 1940's. They found this new system dehumanizing. It is amazing how a new system can create so many fears.

Electronic transactions raise primal fears that the government will be able to trace our every move. Bitcoins remind the world that transactions can be both electronic and anonymous.

Sweden still seems to be the world leader in society rejection of physical currency. They have a mere 2250 ATM's in their entire country of 9.5 million people. Recently the entire system went down twice, and almost no one noticed. I think it is just a matter of time before they use crypto-currency techniques to develop a state sponsored currency that is both electronic and anonymous. Sweden has the equivalent of US$12 billion in currency circulating (on the same order of magnitude as Bitcoin). When the first government converts, it should do a lot to legitimize Bitcoin in the eyes of the world.

People were afraid of the train that was said as non eco-friendly and creating unemployment in the diligence business...

Members that have more than 95% of their wealth in Bitcoin and a wealth over 400k should maybe diversify a little bit by buying precious metals or other inflation edged assets

Yes looks like it . I dont think its PD3 thou. I will update u guys when i get more info.

PD is not available for me either and I don't think it is PD3 because it would have been announced before hand, it is probably a technical glitch or a ddos
1484  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freeze out calculations on: June 16, 2014, 08:48:02 AM
You're using the equation

I am using that equation, but my motivation for breaking it out into several different lines is that each line can be understood to mean something. The final result does not seem so mysterious.

The probability of doubling your bankroll before losing your bankroll depends on house edge and number of betting units. Nothing else! It's also a good way to compare house edge in a more easily comprehensible manner to the average person.

For example consider the possibility of doubling your bankroll with 10 unit bets for different games.
  • Just Dice   Bacc. PB   Satoshi
  • 1.00%    1.36%    1.98%
  • 45.02%   43.24%   40.23%

  • Eur Roul.   Am. Roul.
  • 2.70%     5.26%
  • 36.80%   25.85%

The difference between playing JD or Satoshi is more obvious. And you may wonder why people play roulette at all (European or American version).

Lastly, and most importantly these calculations are unchanged regardless of you betting scheme (even if you use Martingale).

=======================
Given the 30% | 70% relationship, do you think what Donald Trump did was smart? Can you imagine the day when you might publicly challenge Nakowa to try and double his winnings?

BTW, it is clear that max profit was 1% of Bank when Nakowa began. I don't know what the Bank was in those days. Was max profit more than 250BTC back then? Did he play it repeatedly?

Gamblers usually don't play because it is smart to play so that answers the question of why did nakowa and akio kept playing

I like the idea of a public challenge to nakowa but let's hope he will come back by itself to entertain us

Max bet was between 500-600BTC when nakowa started playing, he was betting that much usually after having played for lower amounts
1485  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is going to hit 700$ tomorrow because on: June 16, 2014, 08:41:05 AM
We crossed 600$, maybe we will go back on track and cross 700$ this week

I surely hope we will, we had a lot of positive news
1486  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: June 16, 2014, 08:40:14 AM
What would be the purpose of posting with multi accounts since it is paid per account? How do you know there are a lot of multi accounts?

I think there are a few members that bought up accounts to enjoy higher rates but I don't understand the value of having multi-accounts

EDIT : maybe not to be seen as spamming but instead doing a normal number of messages per account!?

If there are indeed people with multi-accounts in this campaign, perhaps they are "leveling up" those accounts to sell them later, and in the process make the minimum of posts to receive from the sig campaign as well; though to be honest, it seems far more work than it's worth. Perhaps byt411 is right, and it's more of a way to increase the post count in their main account. Or maybe a combination of both these things...  Tongue

I can't believe that people would actually purchase an old account from here... what prices are people paying for these?

0.1-1BTC

In less than two weeks I can join! Can't wait. Although Stunna should consider a cheap Jr. Member campaign anyways.

1 week and 2 days, then you can get in Wink
And I think he should accept jr members too.

This campaign is already full of people, i think that accepting also jr members would make it not sustainable. (Lot of multi account that post as hell, and of course spam)
Yes, way too many people.  IMO even accepting members is bad, but that is just me. I'd make a senior-hero (or hero only) campaign. Less work on manual checking like that.

I presume you will not be a part of the campaign then and you will not advertise PD anymore because if you were everyone will think you asked that change for your personal interest...
1487  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get money? on: June 16, 2014, 08:36:26 AM
Umm get a job and quit bitching.

I don't think he was
Getting a job is a good advice

If you have some extra time and want to earn bitcoin online .. the you have to use .. following..
1. Faucets
2. PTC site that pay in bitcoin
3. investments..
4. buying ghs miner if you have some money
5. or buy a gridseed miner and mine altcoin convert them to bitcoins.. :_)

It is very hard to mine profitable these days.
And faucets give out way too small amounts.
Investments are usually risky.

So yeah, no easy money.
But I didn't expect that anyway.

Well there are many tricks to make 0.01 or 0.001 with faucets by abusing themm but they take much time to make it..

And yeah as i said if you owe some money in you pocket buy a Scrypt miner and mine alt coins.. or buy a good gpu it can mine and play games .. Smiley

Faucets are a waste of time

Cloud mining is usually ev<0
1488  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: I didn't pay capital gains tax on bitcoin sales to IRS today on: June 16, 2014, 08:35:06 AM
The burden of proof is in the hands of the accuse; it is commun that tax payers end up having huge fines when they didn't cheat or broke the law

The fact that it was not intentional may be considered attenuating circumstance in some cases but it will not save you of paying some fines

In order for them to initiate a audit they must have some evidence that fraud occurred.

The "evidence" can come from MANY sources, but there must be a discrepancy in your taxes.
They will not simply audit random people who may or may not have bought/sold bitcoins. If you were intelligent enough to trade your bitcoins in a pseudo-anonymous format, they will never know.

That all said, if they have some evidence you have been dealing in bitcoins that you never reported, you will likely be audited, and you will have to prove that you have never traded bitcoins.

I didn't say they will randomly try to punish you but if friends/neighbourgs think you are avoiding taxes and you make money through Bitcoin you may gave you up and they may decide to audit you then you will need to prove your innocence or you may already be audited and they find Bitcoin transactions to your bank account ect.

Don't do anything illegal and keep records should be enough

We crossed 600$? Bull trap or maybe the decrease in price was kind of a bear trap?

1493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Now Accepts Cryptocurrency for Hotel Bookings on: June 15, 2014, 10:47:20 PM
the odd thing is that this news comes out and then bitcoin proceeds to drop by $40. i guess this kind of news doesnt affect speculation as much as we thought it would.

It is like any market sometimes it seems it goes down with positive news and sometimes it seems it goes up with negative news; the positive news are always positive in a long term perspective; I can feel everything coming into place for a new huge spike in price that will probably be orchestrated by insiders
1494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Accepting Bitcoins on: June 15, 2014, 10:45:26 PM
Wow all these new merchants, it really is like online merchants are interested in BTC.  I think everyone has started accepting it  since it's come down in price, right?  I wonder what would happen if Bitcoin went down to like $100/BTC?

I don't think it is because bitcoin has decreased in price, I think it is because it has become more widely held and users have requested that it be accepted. Many companies will not just start accepting a new payment method without first understanding how it works at a very deep level.

Companies that accept it are still pioneers : it just started to get widespread; when enough people will use it most companies will accept it, not the other way around
1495  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I think this would be secure, but want to make sure on: June 15, 2014, 10:41:46 PM
If you want cold storage, you need to generate your private in an off-line computer, and never let the computer connects to the network again.

Anything else is not absolutely safe

Yeah, I am realizing that from reading these responses and rereading Alan's cold storage how to guide.  I'm planning on buying a cheapo laptop for this and disabling the network drivers so it won't ever go online.

Depends on how paranoid you are, you may compare the address generated by the online computer with the one by the offline computer before you make a payment request. A smart virus in your online computer may replace the address generated by Armory.

if you want to be paranoid, then having a laptop that has never been online is still not absolutely safe unless the machine is also physically locked away somewhere safe along with any backups (paper or otherwise, preferably in different locations). Either that or the Machines HDD (and ram if you are super paranoid) gets physically shredded after any paper wallets are created.

otherwise there really is nothing stopping an unwitting person sometime in the future from installing a new OS or removing the HDD and putting it into another computer.
I think if you go too far though the chance of you losing the keys becomes much greater than someone stealing them.

jl2012 is right, physical security is a totally different matter.  I'll definitely be making a paper backup of the wallet as insurance in case the offline laptop's hard drive crashes or something like that, as I mentioned in my OP.

I would make two plastic paper back-up and secure them in a bank safe (located in an other city or even an other country if you want to be really careful)

Will you make a list for those sites as well? It could be useful

Surely is a good news but, is too much soon to say that bitcoin price will rise to 700$ tomorrow.

I can wait a few weeks for that; 700$ will just be the starting point to go to 1000$ then higher Wink
1499  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: June 15, 2014, 10:37:17 PM
They follow the money and see what he did with it.  If he'd mixed it at SR for example, that would be good because it could've been lost. They say he dissipated the assets.  They say, you are in contempt until you come up with $X.

In short: She whores around.  She gets to get f&$@ed by some other guy,, he gets to get f$&@ed all over again by her in court.

in all seriousness -

how could they?

i like his plan.

What if he just said "I developed a gaming addiction and lost it all on a cryptocurrency gambling website"

Which in reality is completely possible and unproveable in the courts eyes seeing as none of the crypto gambling sites are registered with a government authority. Does this mean any married man who loses significant portion of his assets could go to jail for life for not being able to prove the means of which he lost it? Would be surprised if this was the case TBH.

If you cannot prove it and the judge is doubtful it will not stand in court

The rules of evidence are very strange in divorce court.

The person with the economic disadvantage almost always has an advantage in court

Of course and it is why you need a pre-nup or to be the one with the economic disadvantage
1500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we all write to FBI asking not to sell bitcoins but hodl them? on: June 15, 2014, 10:36:33 PM
We could. But they wont listen.  They've decided to auction them off and that's what will happen.

Law enforcement isnt in the business of holding onto seized assets even if they may go up in value of time. They aren't an investment firm. It's the norm to sell off seized items and it's not going to change.

To be honest, without considering if they should seize or not, it seems pretty understandable that they don't speculate and hold the assets
