1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 15-Year-Old Makes $100,000 on Bitcoin on: June 17, 2014, 05:04:47 PM
Oh woe is thee! Spending money to help better someone's Education. And not to mention, have you read the article? His tutors can charge whatever they like. Right now he's getting 30% royalty.

30% of $39/hr (Which is what one of his tutors are offering) equals approx. $11/hr to him.

Tell me, Rupert, what would your business be like? And Shark Tank (Which is just one show on entrepreneurs, and yes, I fucking love it.) won't have 'laugh you off'? And just because he's a kid doesn't mean that all of his decisions are idiotic. Every entrepreneur makes a stupid decision in their lifetime.

Hmm... if this is true, then this 15-year old is more intelligent than most of the 30-year old posters here. The only thing that I don't like about him is the fact that he doesn't have anymore coins in his stash.

I am very doubtful he doesn't have any left

I am not surprised than a 15 years old is more intelligent than any 30 years old

to reward 100BTC if only for one person or for the?

It is shared but I don't find how it will be distributed or if it is really 100BTC

I also think it seems like it is really difficult to be able 100BTC: D

maybe if you correct guesses or predictions all nothing wrong: D

If i get it right they can tell us at this point if there are still contestants that can win that ?
I dont see even where i can enter that or its to late ?

you may be too late because the rules say fifa world cup predictions before start
but I do not really know

Yeha i think that is correct. And that is why i ask are some people still in the game to win that.
Coz i think most of them failed on Spain - Nederlands, also some on USA, so i think there is not much people left in the game for 100 btc.

At the moment everyone who entered is still in the game! It is not necessary to pick the correct results from the group stage, just who will win and come runner up in each group.

Cheers,
Cloudbet

Oh so perfect guess makes you 100BTC??

I thought you would rank the players and distribute the 100BTC to the 10 20 or 50 best results

What is this 77.77 thing?
Do we get some extra price if we roll 77.77?

It will be on PD3 , JACK POT when u hit (i hope not 77.77) u will win 10x ur bet.

I like the jackpot idea very much, it will be an amazing feeling for the player who will bet 2BTC for a payout of 1.1, hoping to get a quick 0.2profit and who will get the jackpot and 20BTC Grin

So OP is saying "I don't have your coins because I gave the cold wallet to one of the site's investors".

If it's true, what the fuck?  Why would you give the site's cold wallet to anyone?  The whole point of a cold wallet is that it keeps the coins safe.  Don't give it to anyone, especially not an anonymous stranger you met on a forum!

And if it's false, what?  OP still has the coins, is lying about it, and wants to keep them for himself?

So which is it?  You gave the invested coins to a stranger, or you stole them?  Neither one is acceptable.  Did I miss a third possibility?

The big investor could be someone he knew, you don't really know who owned ED

Umm... Hello Huh He posted he doesnt know investor and he is not able to reach him, he dont even know his phone number or home address Smiley .

If that "investor" even exist.

I wouldn't believe he gave the cold wallet to a random investor

ED posted that :

"The site was bought in the early days by an investor. As an operator, I got my share from 0.1% wagered amount for maintaining the site and development updates. I have no other option in the beginning since I don't have enough coin to be put as bankroll to the site. I believe it is fair for other people as well because I wasn't an active forum member.

I hold the code and hot wallet, and the investor hold the cold wallet. It is also fair since he already bought the site and I was paid for development and maintenance. This is why we got high investment jumps in the beginning, and you can also see some fractional amount of transfer from hot wallet and cold wallet, and sometime the hot wallet also became so big, because it was said that it is very difficult for him to transfer from the cold wallet to hot wallet, so to keep the withdrawal instant we tried to keep relatively big amount in hot wallet."

I read it again and it says that he sold the website to an early investor and he only got a share of the 0.1%, in that regard it makes sense that the early investor was holding the cold wallet as the owner or partial owner of the website; it is possible that ED didn't know who he was and it is possible that the investor just kept the money although it is very convenient to say "we got hacked" or "someone left with the money but not me"

"Until today, I'm still trying to contact the major investor personally but with no luck. I feel devastated and start to feel betrayed. However, this is not the first time I have difficulty in contacting him and I still have faith that he is actually a good person."

Max bet is now 0.5%

Nakowa didn't have 100,000BTC

I said the player had 1% 5.3 million wagered or 53K coins.

For the record, was their any estimate made how much Nakowa bought in? Did he buy in with 10K, 20K, 30K?

He had many accounts and made many deposits

Dooglus could give more info on this but I think he always bought in for less than 1k

Nakowa said :

PS: About the bankroll I have, I started "gambling" on JD with 3000BTC (apart from another 4000 for investment), and never down more than 700.

Can I has a prize please?  Shocked

Prize for this roll for PD3 not for PD2.

I will need to persuade Stunna to change that to some other number !
Why 77.77 ? Just WHY ? Everybody use that number and i rly dont get why Cheesy , why not 33.33 or 99.99 or whatever. Just why 77.77 ?!?!?

Because 777 is the number for jackpot in slot machines. Cheesy

Thats my point why use that number ? And it wont even be 777 , it will be 77.77 Cheesy .
Maybe i will make poll so we can vote for that number to change Cheesy . Why go mainstream ? Cheesy

More about the 777 number : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/777_(number)

77.77 is pretty close since it is 4 "7" Grin I would like prizes for 00.00 11.11 22.22 33.33...99.99

Update:
Over the last year everyone who was with us the whole year made about 43%, but that's in the past.  In the future it could get better or worse.

1430  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I think this would be secure, but want to make sure on: June 17, 2014, 02:47:01 PM
I would make two plastic paper back-up and secure them in a bank safe (located in an other city or even an other country if you want really careful)

That's actually a really good idea.  Although my bank accounts for my fiat money are all online banking.  I think one of them has physical branches that I could use though.

Thanks, I don't like the idea of having a single paper back-up

If you are really serious and you don't want to think about it for a long time you can even have 2 paper wallets in 2 different bank safes in 2 different safe countries; you may want to use a simple code to secure the paper back-up but it can back fire, the code would be given to your wife, children, best friend and lawyer
1431  Economy / Gambling / Re: XBTcontracts.org - Speculate to accumilate. on: June 17, 2014, 02:43:52 PM
This is like HYIP if so you should be careful to invest in HYIP

It is a pure ponzi, very deceiving because it doesn't advertise itself as such; it has been around a while but I have not been paid yet because we didn't reach the next contract yet :
"1.2324 BTC until Contract 5 Completes."

I will post if I receive my payment after the contract completes Wink
1432  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: June 17, 2014, 02:42:22 PM
If given a choice to walk away with either Bitcoin or gold of equivalent value, what would you pick?

Asians and Westerners were asked in Taipei in Chinese and English if they would take Bitcoin or gold home with them that day, and the answer might surprise you...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6GiC8dqN9A

We just shot a video outside the Taipei 101 skyscraper area here and gave people a chance to answer if they would walk away with either Bitcoin or gold- and why.

If you were approached and were offered the same deal, would you walk away with Bitcoin or gold in your pocket, and why???

If possible I would spread my new wealth on Bitcoin, Gold, other assets

If I really have to choose only between Gold and Bitcoin I would choose Bitcoin or I would be writing on a Gold forum  Grin
1433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin listed on Yahoo Finance on: June 17, 2014, 02:39:59 PM
Shocked

Was also my reaction this is neat if I remember right and comes in second place for the Bitcoin news of the day ha-ha
Expedia won lol.
That said I am glad that Yahoo Finance is taking Bitcoin seriously enough to add its own ticker for it.

This comment summed it up
“This is literally the best news I’ve had all day, and the day is still young!” said one commenter. “Another nice stamp of approval,” said another.

Amazing to think its going by day now this might have been the news of the week a while back and a month before that.

And yet the price is going down a little bit : 607$ on Bitstamp atm

It looks like a really good time to buy bitcoins

The short term price of BTC any investment does not matter, it is the longer term price that can make or break people.

BTC being on the yahoo finance page will get more people to get interested in bitcoin and to use it

If you get in @ 50 and it goes to 500 you made 1000% but if you got it @ 120 you made 410%

If you think it is going way up and you don't want to speculate on the price going lower before buying, you should just buy as soon as you can

Doing this can be dangerous as it could be a long time before the price recovers enough for you to turn a profit.

If you think it is going down you can wait to buy or even short but you are trading then because you are thinking you know how the market will react in the short term

If you want to invest in Bitcoin and believe in its long term potential you should buy and hold; some try to play the big waves in price, it is dangerous and you need to be really connected to the market to do so effectively

Well let me ask you this, what would you do if the price went below your purchase price and you needed money (you have no other source of funds)? The answer is that you would be forced to sell.

Yes but it doesn't contradict anything I said Grin
1434  Economy / Economics / Re: $50k to Invest - Convince Me! on: June 17, 2014, 02:39:05 PM
A fool and his money would soon departed.

Putting money in bitcoin is a gamble. You might double your money if you are lucky. You might also lose it all if you are not so lucky.

Not looking to gamble. I'm looking at bitcoin as a long term investment. I just don't know how solid that investment will be!

Whoever is interested in longtherm investing in Bitcoin should buy longtherm. As you know Bitcoin is volatile, if you buy several times you avoid buying at tops. You get more some sort of an average price. But since Bitcoin has a golden future (maybe in 5 or 10 years, hopefully sooner) you will be paid very well.

Spread your investment over a longer period and set some buy orders at redicculose low levels (for example this 340 USD). You might be lucky and a spike down gets your order fullfilled.

If you set buy orders you need to block some money on exchanges which is kind of risky

I have no problem with buying over the course of 3months 6months and a year as it may reduce your variance
1435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: June 17, 2014, 02:37:08 PM

I'll answer this one dimensional thinking tomorrow but in the meantime :

Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP.

Half a year ago we were at parity.  Now BTC is half.  Usually one needs to get divorced in order to get screwed so badly.  But keep making an ass of yourself.  Fun for everyone!

I feel like the only ass here who got screwed badly. At the end of the day we're just expressing ideas in the hope that someone will challenge them, in a way that is meaningful - backing those ideas with ego is not a valid change.

I just need to go back 18 months to know gold's collapsing and Bitcoin's up.

I'm the ass for biting at the gold bug hook, and making my own benchmark exit $10 bitcoin and enter $1900 gold.

"Gold collapsing.  Bitcoin UP" is my only mantra untilled Bitcoin hits $10 again while gold supersedes $2000 per ounce.

It's not that it's backed by the claimed opposite it's backed by: insert the silverbox report here.

This isn't and didn't start as a 6 month race. It's a race I started late and gave gold a massive head start and for the record it started in March 2012.

Gold used to be way cheaper before the middle of 2000's, Gold&Bitcoin are likely to both appreciate in real terms as the USD and western financial system collapse

1438  Economy / Speculation / Re: It is just a matter of time on: June 17, 2014, 02:27:57 PM
The global collapse of fiat will make Bitcoin a "mainstream choice" for people seeking better options.
It is just a matter of time.  Smiley
Do not smile over a global collapse. If such a thing happens, everyone will suffer very bad and the LAST thing you will worry about is bitcoin or investments or money. You will be thinking of how to survive, what you are going to eat, and how many bullets you have left in your gun to fend off all of the attackers. Bitcoin will probably crash too once the world is in complete chaos, not rally. This is because all the channels to inject fiat will be broken except direct hand to hand barter, and I find it highly unlikely that suddenly Bitcoin will become a barter tool during global chaos when it was not already. Also it will require people have access to technology and the internet, which will also become unlikely. So it will become worthless.  Be careful what you wish for. So maybe there this small chance you bitcoins gain some value while your house is being burned and your friends are being killed by looters. It disgusts me that there is a smiley face attached to such a thing.

A collapse can take many forms and can also take a lot of time. It won't be the first time fiat collapses, but it will be the first global one. I am prepared for the worst case scenario the way you are describing, but I believe and hope it won't get as ugly as that. I definitely want to see it collapse though because our fiat system is blocking the way towards a better world for future generations.

There is nothing fun about a USD collapse and the worse could happen but it will benefit the other currencies and the middle east or asia will still be a good place to live; I can see a scenario where the USD collapse but we don't see a world war, mass deaths and suffering; we will likely see power grid collapses, huge riots, martial law and ration coupons which are not fun

Let's hope internet and free minded people will be able to build a better world free of massive coerciveness
1439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is This possible.. Ads to each btc address on: June 17, 2014, 02:21:04 PM
The majority of the people do not read messages I think, myself included.
By default, most bitcoin wallets do not show any messages.
If you want to advertise, btc advertising networks will reach more eyeballs  Smiley

One of the biggest businesses that offer wallets to their consumers show their users all notes attached to transactions.

Which one?

Does anyone actually look at those ads? I've seen them before, spammed on popular BTC addresses. Seems dumb.

I do see them when I click on a blockchain.info address page. But I would never actually visit the site advertised....

Not even once every 100,000 times?
1440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 15-Year-Old Makes $100,000 on Bitcoin on: June 17, 2014, 01:21:18 PM
Should have sold off only a portion rather than the whole sum just in case in the long term we moved upwards. Regardless though I'd say he's just another one of those cases where having some luck and being in the right place at the right time can pay off overall.

It is not written that he sold it all, he probably kept 10-60% of it and he can buy back, earn a nice income with his business, earn BTC with his business or sell his business for a large fiat amount that he can partly transfer in BTC for safety and value

There was an article that say some 15 year old used $1,000 that his grandmother gave him to buy bitcon early last year and old it recently for a $150,000 profit.

It does say he sold it for 100k$ :

"When Erik Finman received $1,000 from his grandmother in 2012, he invested it in bitcoin, the then-obscure form of online currency. A year and a half later, he sold his investment for $100,000 and used the earnings to launch Botangle.com, an online tutoring service that runs on video chat."

I think it is unlikely he didn't kept any of it
