1461  Economy / Economics / Re: $50k to Invest - Convince Me! on: June 16, 2014, 11:50:01 AM
I'd probably diversify my investment, putting all of your hard earned cash on one horse seems a little rash don't you think? Instead, buy bitcoins for 10k and use the rest for something else! Maybe buy some Gold & Silver (plus a safety deposit box) or invest in a start-up or two in your neighborhood.

He is thinking of buying 50k$ worth of bitcoins but as stated previously he has more available; 50k$ out of a 1m$ portfolio isn't that extreme if you are young
1462  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freeze out calculations on: June 16, 2014, 11:48:06 AM
Lastly, and most importantly these calculations are unchanged regardless of you betting scheme (even if you use Martingale).

I thought this statement that I made might get more comment, since JD clearly attracts so many Martingale players.

You have better odds doing a single bet than playing the martingale ie if you want to get 50% from your bankroll you have better odds of achieving it if you go maxbet/1.5payout than playing a martingale
1463  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 16, 2014, 11:40:24 AM

It's just normal trading in a thin book area. People are buying and selling and some of the buyers don't really care about a 1% price premium. Not everyone is a daytrader.

Shocked  What! I thought everyone was jointly day trading and manipulating the price, while banning China and drawing dinosaurs, you mean to tell me there's people who just want to buy some coins on a monday morning  Cheesy

I sense some sarcasm Wink

Everyday a few persons decide to buy a few bitcoins or more for diversification, to make a profit or because they like the protocole, his potential and they want to make a statement and support the whole decentralised idea
1464  Economy / Economics / Re: Would people pour their cash into bitcoin given a stock market crash? on: June 16, 2014, 11:33:13 AM
Investors would have been burn so badly they will be not likely to trust someone else with their money.

Hard asset and cash on hand would be more likely asset investors want to hang onto.

Exactly!

After a stock market crash, investors will be very risk adverse and would not want to risk what funds they have left in something that is more risky then stocks.

People who will buy bitcoins or hold to them bitcoins would be people already interested by bitcoins

Gold is risky and volatile but in case of market crash or hyper inflation it is a safer asset for some so the price raises
1465  Economy / Economics / Re: $50k to Invest - Convince Me! on: June 16, 2014, 11:30:17 AM
Real estate price, over long term, will go up also.

You may need to consider investing in real estate than bitcoin.

Why would they?

You don't really own the property since you need to pay a myriad of taxes and you need to repair it; if the taxes are raised or if the interest rates go up, the price of "your" property is likely to go down; I am not even talking about a revolution or a natural disaster that will reduce the price tremendously
1466  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get money? on: June 16, 2014, 11:28:05 AM
Umm get a job and quit bitching.

I don't think he was
Getting a job is a good advice

If you have some extra time and want to earn bitcoin online .. the you have to use .. following..
1. Faucets
2. PTC site that pay in bitcoin
3. investments..
4. buying ghs miner if you have some money
5. or buy a gridseed miner and mine altcoin convert them to bitcoins.. :_)

It is very hard to mine profitable these days.
And faucets give out way too small amounts.
Investments are usually risky.

So yeah, no easy money.
But I didn't expect that anyway.

Well there are many tricks to make 0.01 or 0.001 with faucets by abusing themm but they take much time to make it..

And yeah as i said if you owe some money in you pocket buy a Scrypt miner and mine alt coins.. or buy a good gpu it can mine and play games .. Smiley

Faucets are a waste of time

Cloud mining is usually ev<0
I read here so many users write here faucets are useless if we have a good downline under the faucet referral link we make good money on faucets site .it is risk free way of earning money.

Yeah, but getting referrals is hard.
I have about 500 referrals and I only get under 0.01BTC from them monthly Sad
So you will need thousand of referrals to get good money.

Yes indeed, you get pocket change from faucets when you have referrals; if you don't have any referrals you litterally get dust
1467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Accepting Bitcoins on: June 16, 2014, 11:19:02 AM
Wow expedia accepting bitcoin is actually pretty huge, as they are one of the larger travel agencies. This will trigger other merchants to also accept bitcoin, otherwise give up the market share.

I've used expedia several times to book trips, and next time will definitely be using btc to pay.

Expedia customers will see the Bitcoin logo and those who know about Bitcoin may decide to have 0.5 or 1BTC ready as an alternate form of payment
1468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Now Accepts Cryptocurrency for Hotel Bookings on: June 16, 2014, 11:18:05 AM
I only wish they accepted it for Airlines as well.
I'll use CheapAir.com for that, though.

They don't accept Bitcoins for flight bookings? That sucks. Someone posted here otherwise. Also, as far as I understand, they are accepting Bitcoin payments only from the American customers. When will they start to accept them from the international customers?

They start with the American market and they will probably soon extend it to other countries
1469  Economy / Gambling / Re: EveryDice.com | 0.99% Edge - Instant Cashout - Invest - Referral - Mobile - Fair on: June 16, 2014, 11:17:20 AM
Is OP interested in selling the site? I saw from the screenshots that this site looks good, it's a pity if it discontinues.

If what the site owner said is true, could he offer some compensation for the player 1Dice1? If he has no btcs left, he can sell the site to compensate the 1Dice1.

If this plan works, I can buy the site to compensate the player.

Its not only 1Dice1 its all investors to that lost money. Wont be that easy .
And also i dont think buyng that site will be good deal for u. Its hard to survive in this competition even without bad past.

Every amount he gives to the 1dice1 he doesn't have to give to the investors; if everyone got 50cents or even 30cents on the Dollar it would be a good deal considering the most probable outcome

1472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Accepting Bitcoins on: June 16, 2014, 09:13:06 AM
Wow all these new merchants, it really is like online merchants are interested in BTC.  I think everyone has started accepting it  since it's come down in price, right?  I wonder what would happen if Bitcoin went down to like $100/BTC?

I don't think it is because bitcoin has decreased in price, I think it is because it has become more widely held and users have requested that it be accepted. Many companies will not just start accepting a new payment method without first understanding how it works at a very deep level.

Companies that accept it are still pioneers : it just started to get widespread; when enough people will use it most companies will accept it, not the other way around

I agree here. Companies are much more likely to accept it when their customers keep asking for it. Companies with slim profit margins (like overstock), will be the first to jump aboard, because a few extra percent of profit is huge to them.

Companies do what is profitable for them and try to lower prices, lower costs and have happy customers, the number of persons using bitcoins is growing quite rapidly
1473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: June 16, 2014, 09:10:52 AM
I am pretty confident we will see prices near $1,000 within less than 7 weeks.  Smiley

It is a pretty precise prediction  Wink

I will go with a prediction myself then : new ATH before Mars 2015

Mars?

Thats how march is spelled in some European languages, you know, from the god and planet Mars, so, guessing he is European.

Translation:
It is much more likely that BTC will have a new ATH by next year, than for a European to be the first human on Mars by 2016.  Smiley

Of course it is more likely

I edited the post, Bitcoin is not going to Mars yet
1474  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: June 16, 2014, 09:08:32 AM
They follow the money and see what he did with it.  If he'd mixed it at SR for example, that would be good because it could've been lost. They say he dissipated the assets.  They say, you are in contempt until you come up with $X.

In short: She whores around.  She gets to get f&$@ed by some other guy,, he gets to get f$&@ed all over again by her in court.

in all seriousness -

how could they?

i like his plan.

What if he just said "I developed a gaming addiction and lost it all on a cryptocurrency gambling website"

Which in reality is completely possible and unproveable in the courts eyes seeing as none of the crypto gambling sites are registered with a government authority. Does this mean any married man who loses significant portion of his assets could go to jail for life for not being able to prove the means of which he lost it? Would be surprised if this was the case TBH.

If you cannot prove it and the judge is doubtful it will not stand in court

The rules of evidence are very strange in divorce court.

The person with the economic disadvantage almost always has an advantage in court

Of course and it is why you need a pre-nup or to be the one with the economic disadvantage

If written properly and executed properly a prenup can be very valuable.

Most prenups have clauses that say the spouse that is "worse" off will get something in the event of a divorce.

It is all about knowing what you are signing for and agreeing with it

If you want to give half in case of divorce it's all good; time, effort and sacrifices need to be rewarded and it needs to be negotiated before hand
1475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is This possible.. Ads to each btc address on: June 16, 2014, 09:06:44 AM
I am as poor as a church rat.

What makes church rats more poor than normal rats? Grin

I was thinking the same thing

I am surprised there is not a coin that invoves adds in each transaction
If it was implemented in Bitcoin, the Bitcoin foundation could sell adds per 0.0001% of the transactions, if you buy one slot your add will be seen on 0.0001% of the transactions for a given month or year
1476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you personally seen a bitcoin millionaire? on: June 16, 2014, 09:04:50 AM

The article is interesting : "throwaway-69857457 has in part motivated me to chime in. I'm also probably what others would call an early adopter. I bought the bulk of my coins when they were still a few cents each."

but it doesn't validate as "seen" though  Wink

I bet you still have enough to become a fiat millionnaire if things go as expected  Wink

sell your satoshi dust for Zimbabwe dollars and your a fiat millionaire

I bet you still have enough to become a USD fiat millionnaire if things go as expected  Wink
1477  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have 3 Million USD to invest into Crypto Currency - How should I do it? on: June 16, 2014, 09:02:38 AM
New idea.  Deposit $200,000 into US auction of confiscated SR coins.  Get as many as you can and hold for dear life!

*or diversify Smiley

If you pegged the auction coins at 550 a piece, the smallest block of 3K, would cost just over half of his 3M.
550 * 3,000 = 1,650,000
Heck, in that case, with the direction bitcoin price is currently heading he just might be able to purchase two of them.  Obviously that would wipe out any sort of diversification of his investment, much riskier but potentially that much more lucrative.

The terms of the auction is that you must say the maximum price that you are willing to pay and how many you are willing to buy. If he wanted two then he could say he will buy 2 @ 1.5mm each. If he wanted to be sure to get one he could say he would buy 1 @ $1.65mm (and 1 @ 1.35mm if he wanted a chance to get a 2nd one)

For the lazy ones :

"This auction is for 9 blocks of 3,000 bitcoins (“Series A Blocks”) and 1 block of 2,656.51306529 bitcoins (“Series B Block”)."

"1. The eligible bidder who offers the highest price will be the prevailing bidder;
2. If there are multiple bids at the highest price, the first bid received will prevail; and
3. If fewer than all of the Series A blocks are sold to the highest bidder, the remaining blocks will be sold to the successive highest bidders until all blocks are sold."

It closes June 30 but we won't have the winners&price immediately, does someone know if the final auction price will be public?

This is correct, but it does not make it any easier for the OP to be able to get 2 3k blocks from the auction

He can get a 3k block and the 2.6x block

I am sure he could invest more than 3m if needed
1478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Now Accepts Cryptocurrency for Hotel Bookings on: June 16, 2014, 09:01:48 AM
Even crazier is the news of the Malaysian tech seller who accepts bitcoins and openly doesnt convert any of them.
Big companies are shifting fast now.

They are shifting as they are understanding it and as the consumers are getting more involved in Bitcoin
1479  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin listed on Yahoo Finance on: June 16, 2014, 09:00:51 AM
Shocked

Was also my reaction this is neat if I remember right and comes in second place for the Bitcoin news of the day ha-ha
Expedia won lol.
That said I am glad that Yahoo Finance is taking Bitcoin seriously enough to add its own ticker for it.

This comment summed it up
“This is literally the best news I’ve had all day, and the day is still young!” said one commenter. “Another nice stamp of approval,” said another.

Amazing to think its going by day now this might have been the news of the week a while back and a month before that.

And yet the price is going down a little bit : 607$ on Bitstamp atm

It looks like a really good time to buy bitcoins

The short term price of BTC any investment does not matter, it is the longer term price that can make or break people.

BTC being on the yahoo finance page will get more people to get interested in bitcoin and to use it

If you get in @ 50 and it goes to 500 you made 1000% but if you got it @ 120 you made 410%

If you think it is going way up and you don't want to speculate on the price going lower before buying, you should just buy as soon as you can

Doing this can be dangerous as it could be a long time before the price recovers enough for you to turn a profit.

If you think it is going down you can wait to buy or even short but you are trading then because you are thinking you know how the market will react in the short term

If you want to invest in Bitcoin and believe in its long term potential you should buy and hold; some try to play the big waves in price, it is dangerous and you need to be really connected to the market to do so effectively

Having young and hungry people that arrive in your country to work hard, do unpleasant jobs to feed their family create wealth and confort for both the immigrants and the natives
