From the outside it looks like AMT just keep giving out little glimpes of hope to keep people tagging along.

2202  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: May 07, 2014, 08:36:13 AM
Need to report S2 1TH/S Batch 3 hardware issue here.  My first ASIC miner purchase, and you guys had such big name here. It seems that I can never make the gap between Batch 3 and Batch 4 given current hardware issue... :-).  My order id is 00120140427064424805kx9d0G7b0686, placed on Apr 27, you can confirm that.

To be honest, I am very impressed by your fast shipping rate!

  • LCD panel not working
  • Never reached 1Th/S, started around 992Mh/S, then displayed "x" errors after 2 hours. Reboot won't solve it. Over time, more "------------" or "xxx---xx-x" shows up, hashrate constantly dropped as low as about 850Mh/s.

I hope, when you recieved it, that you opened up the case and made sure all the blades were aligned and everything was plugged in correctly. First thing I do whenever I receive something this valuable thats been shipped all the way from China via those apes that call themselves express carriers.

Heck I even took every blade out and wiped off all the excess TIM that had oozed out from between the card and the heatsink, and then cleaned off any TIM I found on the backside of the blade, because it was pretty much on every blade, often on the traces and connectors, and that stuff can short components out.

Really interesting photo-diary. Keep it up!
2204  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat - Enemy #1, and here's why on: May 06, 2014, 03:04:06 PM
It's not just the chips. The boards they sit on, the insulation on the wires, anything plastic in the case, capacitors, and fan blades - those are where the trouble is. That stuff can melt before the data center cooling even enters the equation.

The other thing people overlook is that when you plug in a rig that is cold and fire it up, it goes from room temp to over 100F quickly. Lots of metals and heat sinks, drives, cases, and other components don't do well with a drastic and sudden exponential increase in heat. It cracks things. The A/C inside the facility at 65F if drawn into the case and over the guts of the rigs at 200F can also create a huge temperature differential. That cracks things.

Ideally you look at airflow, you look at SLA's of the facility, and tweak the rigs for the environment you operate in.

Maybe we just need chips that don't mind the heat Wink

This stuff is designed to take it the temperature differential, you make it sound like this is the first summer anyone has had to mine coins in. People have been mining on gpu's running at near 100°C (not F) for years. ASIC's aren't so different. In a home environment you underclock or slow everything down or get hosting or whatever it takes to continue with your hobby Smiley I think the chances of catastrophic hardware failure due to heat are slim to none. Whats more likely is that the systems will just slow down or shutdown to try and keep cool.

In a datacenter environment the biggest issue is power/heat density, you can't really put 35 1.25U Miners in a 47U rack, there just aren't datacenters with that sort of power footprint per rack available. Its like when blades started coming out, most datacenters were not designed for the rack/power/heat density of blades and had to build self contained blade rooms with separate cooling facilities so that the heat from the blade racks didn't overcome the overall cooling on the floor.

I think that its moving to dedicated mining floors, or specially commissioned datacenters in ultra low electricity cost locations, and even then its going to be touch and go from an ROI pov.

2206  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: M's Ant (S1) Monitor v1.0 on: May 06, 2014, 12:09:39 PM
Why? Is it necessary to change it?

No it's not.  But if my app isn't connecting, it's either because it's a bad address, or the userid/pw isn't the default and you didn't give it the correct userid/pw.

If you can connect to it through your browser and you gave it the right credentials, it should work.

M

Can you explain why someone might not be able to access it through their browser?

i can access my avalons in this manner, no ether cable required. but my ants seem to need the ether cable connecting the rig & the laptop to get access to the GUI.

My S2 used to let me access a few parts of the GUI but not miner status without swapping the ether cable to connect directly to the laptop (and cease mining in the process)

now it doesnt even let me in at all - unless using direct ether connection...

Good job on the app though!!

The ants are basically a router/firewall device, I wonder if there is a firewall setting preventing access to the web console on that interface?
2207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 05, 2014, 03:43:43 PM
Guys the garbage KNC is shipping out now is apparently used/faulty hardware from previous RMA's most likely. I would even think some of those parts weren't even soldered on the boards when it was packed up. They just needed to make sure they sent enough parts to make up a full miner rig, that's all. Seriously, how can those little tiny parts fall off like that?

They can't "fall off like that" the 1kg heatsinks and fans were not attached properly and came off rolling around all over the inside of the case smashing bits off.
2208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 04, 2014, 12:57:26 AM
Those of you planning on making a trip, I suggest you arrange, in advance, with KnC to meet there. Explain that you don't trust the packing or shipping company to not damage the miner more than it already is so would rather drop it off yourself. Better than going their unannounced imho otherwise they just might not let you in without an appointment.
2209  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CYRious Technologies - CYR Jackhammer $599 / 1.4TH/s on: May 04, 2014, 12:05:08 AM

Quick everybody run, there are companies who repetitively use the most cost effective options for their web services. For that matter, STOP USING BITCOINTALK.ORG because they use private internet access which is the same VPN that 90% of the companies who pop up with scams on this forum. or as anybody who has accidentally stumbled across bitcoinforum.com's webpage quickly learns that at least half of the scams that show up on this forum are administered by the leadership of this form. Resolving to the same DNS is one thing, Resolving to the same IP means websites are hosting on the same server, same block, same node, same drives for that matter.

So, in all actuality, i guess i might owe the trolls some profit sharing from my bonus, you guys have made my job a ton easier and gotten me almost 1/3 the way to my bonus in less than one day. Except the one who took a pop shot at my newborn daughter. you can still suck a bag of dicks. You get nothing.

Icebreaker is that you again? Wink

Seriously, if you detest it so much here why post here?

Actually I hope lots of people buy your stuff instead of from the companies who actually have product out there, means less competition for my mining dollar.

Keep it up Johnny.. you're doing a damn fine job. Grin
2210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 03, 2014, 10:27:16 AM
I'd be interested to know ... anyone in the UK who received S2 batch 3 ... what customs payment did you have to pay the courier company? Bitmain at times on the S1 declared a low value, are they still doing this?

First, wrong thread mate Smiley but in answer to your question, its pot luck, sometimes they declare full value, sometimes they declare what you ask them and sometimes they declare a randon number they pull out of their hat.
2211  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 03, 2014, 10:20:17 AM
why not thrash around wildly calling everyone idiots...

that should sort everything out.

you may not suck nutsacks but you do indeed suck.

2212  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Just Took the Plunge and Ordered 4 Antminer S2s on: May 03, 2014, 09:38:21 AM
doesn't fix the fact that they sent out a pile of shite in the first instance tho.

No it doesn't.

are we fwends again?

*sheepish* sorry for being a twat. it's a habit.

LOL, nutter.
2213  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 02, 2014, 08:06:38 PM
Hi Everyone,

We have been working with Bitmain to get a web store set up for customers to purchase their products with cred/debit card and have products shipped from Denver, CO. Check us out, we opened for business today! www.minerstore.com. We have the S2 in stock, ships ASAP from Denver. We also allow picking up in person, and you can pay in person too!

Are the coupon codes you accept bitmains coupon codes? Otherwise it seems like a $740 (inc delivery) penalty to purchase through you. ??
2214  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Just Took the Plunge and Ordered 4 Antminer S2s on: May 02, 2014, 07:52:56 PM
No way.... How did that even happen?? Did you order that off of ebay? Were you able to get a refund?

I would not buy from Bitmain if you told me you would pay for the rig for me.
those pictures are another customer victim's order direct from bitmain... you shoulda done a bit more research mate.

things you'll need:

working firmware, and the knowledge to install it.
a friend who can rebuild repair shit broken h/w.
1 or 2 blades extra to replace the ones which don't work.

best luck.

Sorry mate all three of those points are bullshit since batch 1, the last few from batch 2 and 3 I have had through my hands were fine.

busted  Cheesy

i do like a good wind up tho

2216  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling Bitmain Antminer S1/S2 Coupons! on: May 02, 2014, 07:47:28 PM
Definitely a scam, the only way you can use the coupons for other people is to buy the miner for them.

As said you can't sell the coupons to use on other accounts.

First. I don't appreciate you calling me a scammer, because I'm not. I've only done things on these forums to help people.
Fix machines, give advice, etc. So please - have some self-respect.

You've certainly posted 2 or 3 helpful comments in the 33 posts you have done so far, no dispute there. You've also spent enough time in the Bitmain thread to know that you can't do this:

Here's how this will work.

Private message me the coupon you would like to purchase.
I will reply with my BTC address. Send the BTC to my BTC address. Allow me at most one hour
to confirm the payment. Within an hour or less of receiving the payment, I will privately message you
with the coupon.
That's it.

You may not be a scammer I'll give you that and amend my post, but it needed a strong message to stop anyone sending you any BTC which might make you into one.
2217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 02, 2014, 07:27:58 PM
At one month batch 1 customers
Will have free hosting 3th power from knc

Let's see it

oh yeah, funny joke. like they give a fuck.
No, he's right.
It has nothing to do with the frankenJupiter situation....
They said CAbatch will be getting 3th "Early" June until Neptunes ship.

The key word in there is "expected"
