2281  Economy / Speculation / Re: what is the bottom of this bear market BTC on: October 11, 2022, 03:46:47 PM

Don't feed the troll! Just look at his signature space, look at his older posts, have a good laugh and move on.
And be happy he's posting like that, it can be meaning the the bear market is close to an end Cheesy
2282  Economy / Economics / Re: Portugal will be "hodling friendly" on: October 11, 2022, 03:42:58 PM
Probably at the beginning of next year we will have news regarding the regulation by the EU. Perhaps this issue of war has delayed legislation by the European Union a little. The last news I saw about it, therefore, point out that in 2024 there is already a regulation for the entire EU.

With Portugal and also Germany having the rule that crypto held for more than one year is not taxed, I can hope that this could become the main rule over EU.
Or am I hoping for too much?

However, these regulations just happen very slow, with or without the war. This is how politics go, I expect a lot of negotiations happen also behind closed doors. Some want evolution, some want more taxes, ....
2283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 11, 2022, 03:36:28 PM
But I think strategically Hodlo really doesn't want the narrow win, he presumably wants a win that says "Wright wouldn't be able to convince the court that he was satoshi and so couldn't prevail in a defamation claim"

If that's going to happen, maybe that could be referenced/used in future trials CSW is/will be involved in, saving people's time and money. From that I know, that could be possible, but I don't know if cross-border.
2284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk is not key to 100k$ per Bitcoin! on: October 11, 2022, 03:20:06 PM
The article and the tweet are from April 2021

This is overly funny! Well spotted! I guess that his oddly political "polls" are not enough to increase his popularity (not necessarily in a good way), he needed yet another topic on bitcointalk! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Also, while expecting "salvation" from various personalities is known to be counterproductive, in the meanwhile he kept bashing Bitcoin and kept supporting his ever-bleeding altcoin, still, some "bitcoiners" keep waiting for something - I really don't understand what - from him.

2286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Calendar and Important Days on: October 11, 2022, 03:03:09 PM
Bitcoin is not just a digital currency , but a revolution and for some its like following a religion ... Days on which bitcoin is celebrated .. Here are some which i mentioned , if somehow missed any please feel free to add ...  and also share your opinion about what you feel about specific days out of this list ... Have u ever contributed or u have any experience of any of such days ...

There is already a nicely written calendar that covers most of this (and more), see https://bitcoin.holiday/ and some sort of announcement here.
Of course, Cypherpunk Day is not directly bitcoin related and also Satoshi day is most probably incorrect - I guess you don't expect a man very careful about his privacy would give out the correct birth date just like that..

If you feel you can add dates, you can also contribute there: https://bitcoin.holiday/
2287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Formula 1's Crypto.com Sponsor Is Falling Apart on: October 11, 2022, 09:36:17 AM
Terrible news, if true. I had high hopes for crypto dot com doing well with their sports enterprise. As they own and operate a crypto exchange, I was hoping it would help insulate them from volatility and negative price trends. It would seem trading volume in crypto is on something of a decline.

Does anyone know if crypto dot com has sources of revenue aside from their exchange.

I think that the exchange and cards were supposed to be those that bring the revenue. The spread on the exchange is quite a big money provider if you have plenty of users for it. Of course, on long term the users may vanish while learning that there can be cheaper alternatives.

And crypto com has a history of irresponsibly waste money. Such a gamble was even acquiring that domain name, which sounds great, but was overly expensive (millions iirc) and I am not convinced even now it was worth it.

If they indeed didn't take the crypto winter into account, then they are yet another exchange/company from somebody's list (I think CZ stated at some point that quite a number of exchanges look really bad now).

But, with some luck, crypto winter may be close to an end. If they're lucky, they may survive this one, this time. Still, if they do, they have to become more attractive and get more users, and learn to be more careful with their money.

Why is this post in the Gambling Discussion forum?

While OP has linked this to F1, I agree, this is about crypto com company/service, not about motorsports or gambling.
2288  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Miniclip problem on: October 11, 2022, 09:06:01 AM
Did someone had exerience when miniclip had bitcoins as value on their website. It was like years ago but back then I had some bitcoins made by playing games. Is there any possibility to come back those coins or something?

So you had bitcoins on a website. Well, that was in their wallet (no private key for you).
If that's no longer available I'm afraid that the chances for you to get those coins is slim (I should say 0).
However, this is not an issue with Bitcoin, it's an issue with Miniclip itself, so the only ones who could help is them (i.e. allow you withdraw those coins to your wallet).

Now think it over: what would be the reason they would give you now valuable money you didn't claim when you had the occasion?
If you think you have a chance, ask their support.
2289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto withdrwals in USA on: October 11, 2022, 08:58:18 AM
Lets assume that I have USDT 12000 ON my Binance US Account. If i withdraw USDT to my bank account in USA.  What about the possibility and taxation about it?

Taxation in US is real. You have to declare the capital gains and you have to expect that either Binance US or your bank (or both) will also send that info to IRS (so if you don't declare you may get into troubles).
Also as said, you will withdraw USD to your bank, and this means selling crypto for fiat. If you have not papers on buying that crypto, the entire amount may be considered gains.

I will add that withdrawing 12k in one step to banks can be tricky, some may be asking many questions about where's that money from, and ask about even more papers (I don't know if it's the same in US, but in some other countries that's real, so I'd be wary).
2290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years ago this man was accused to be Satoshi on: October 11, 2022, 08:49:01 AM
WOULD YOU DECLINE SUCH AN ACCUSATION? Grin

I don't know who is this guy, like many others I've never heard of him.
But yes, I would decline such accusation. And the reasons are many:
1. Since I know I cannot prove it cryptographically that I am Satoshi, I would be just another Faketoshi.
2. I guess that many reporter and madman would be looking me up, disturbing me and my family with good and bad, including hate.
3. If I would become somewhat convincing that I could be Satoshi, some may want me dead or come for my alleged money.
4. A convincing enough Satoshi could do very bad to Bitcoin (as price and also as community and development).

So why bother? It cannot do anything good neither to me, nor to Bitcoin itself.

PS. If Satoshi is alive and well, I am sure he thinks the same (of course, excepting point 1), no matter how much noise some try to do in order to make him step forward.
2291  Economy / Services / Re: [10$ bounty] SQL Query on: October 11, 2022, 07:53:28 AM
Filtering the date for both sales and purchases will also not work, because a user could've bought something on the 1st of January for example, and just decided to sell it today.

I expect that at every sale you have to match with some purchases you're selling, usually the oldest (but it's up to the user/your friend to choose; you need a clear rule here, else, if choosing randomly you can even get different result on each run), so, in 2013-06-11 (based on that data and the "oldest" logic) you should have nothing left from 1/1 to sell.
Unfortunately I don't know how to do this directly from SQL, I don't know how to add that much logic into that (maybe at/after/for counting in each buy/sell operation you should create new pair of temporary purchases and sales tables to work with?).

You may need actual code there.
2292  Economy / Gambling / Re: STAKE SCAMMED $100K AND NOT REPLYING EMAILS FOR 6 MONTHS on: October 11, 2022, 07:31:02 AM
when casino owners are DT on forum there is little you can do when they scam you. They scam you plus leave bad feedback .. do they have any proof of match fixing? if yes please show me

You're wrong, sorry. If you would have proper evidence, the scammer would be tagged and most probably also demoted from DT (in a matter of weeks).
But you have no evidence and, even more, people are convinced that you are the one scamming.
And making new topics with big red text and nothing useful (i.e. you know, proof, ...) only adds you a label of being immature and nothing else.

LE: And unfortunately, this is the way the world works. If one is reputed enough (good trust feedback, DT member), in most cases his word is enough, while you, as being newer and not well known, have to bring evidence.
2293  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why not to buy inexpensive "exotic" open source hardware wallets? on: October 10, 2022, 06:34:35 PM
The question is: where is the catch?

As long as you buy from reputable shops, or, even better, from those companies' official shops, there's no catch.
Some HW have no screen, some HW work with NFC only, and those go even lower than 39$. Some are Bitcoin only.
Make sure you know what you're buying. There's a topic that compares most HW very good, search it up., here it is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416497

For example, if you guys were choosing a new wallet now, and came to a shop where all open source hardware wallets are represented, would you purchase an inexpensive convenient beautiful "exotic" wallet? Or would you purchase one of the same wallets you used to consider, like Trezor/Coldcard/Bitbox02 ? Why?

I have a Ledger Nano S. When it's going to die, I will most probably not buy Ledger, unless they do something so great I'll forgive them for their many late mistakes.
One device I'm eyeing is SeedSigner. Pretty cheap, smart and I like it. Everything is open source there (OK, excepting the RasPi itself). I like the idea of using images to transfer the information.
2294  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-10-07] Visa partners with FTX on: October 10, 2022, 03:35:52 PM

There are people who think that crypto is only meant to be spent in a bull market? Huh

If that's their mindset then I don't know what they are going to do once the price stabilizes about 100 years later. But then again, their grandkids won't be thinking like that.

I would not be surprised about that mindset, I've seen even here on bitcointalk the mentality of holding the precioussss bitcoins forever.
People have different approach in working with money and it's hard to change their mentality in this matter, especially when they've found the goose with golden eggs.
I wrote here and there on bitcointalk that people should get to also enjoy their money, hence "hodl some, spend some" tends to be more appropriate.

But while I may have some expectations from (some of) the people on bitcointalk, I pretty much don't expect more than this (or anything at all) from a generic commercial news writer.
2295  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GrapheneOS BTC donations for Pixel7 on: October 10, 2022, 03:28:16 PM
Don't want to derail this thread, but for me QC is the issue.

QC is an issue in most phones I've been studying (I was eyeing an update for my 4+ years old phone). But I was looking into less pricey phones.
RAM management is an issue I've read about more than once, the Android system nowadays is hungry for RAM, at least 6 GB seems to be a minimal must.

A bit shame Graphene is only for the Pixels, from what I've read they're not the only ones with clean Android (iirc Moto also has clean Andro and it's much more affordable).
--

I will keep an eye and retweet some of their donation requests too (already started). Pixel or not, it is a worthwhile project.
2296  Economy / Speculation / Re: what is the bottom of this bear market BTC on: October 10, 2022, 02:43:09 PM
On the paper the correct number is 8k-10k, however there's a very good chance we're too late to get there/that low. Still, never say never.
Imho if it weren't the current uncertainty on financial markets the bear market could have been already over.
2297  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: That one thing I like about Bitcointalk on: October 10, 2022, 02:33:24 PM
This forum can be the best place to discuss about crypto but sorry, I can not get you when you said it is "the safest place to discuss everything crypto".

Discussion about cryptocurrency contains risk, I do not think so.

The forums allows easily to be used in a completely anonymous manner. Of course, one has to learn do that and also has o do that from second 1, else probably it won't help.
So the forum is great for this, but ultimately is a choice in the user's hand.

Then, if one is smart, he can ask for enough opinions and avoid get scammed. Still, scams are possible and I don't see how could they get eradicated on any forum or social media.

It's not a perfect solution, but I don't think that there's any better platform than this.
2298  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Hacked?! What we can do better to protect our funds? on: October 10, 2022, 02:06:53 PM
- Hardware wallets ?
- Paper wallets?

For the average Joe I recommend hardware wallets, if he can afford it.
If one does just a bit of research, he has a good chance to buy a good enough HW. And unless he does something extremely stupid, he'll be safe.

Paper wallets are obviously cheaper, and I recommend them to tech savvy people who know how to generate them safely, offline, in a live system (with no storage).
But they are somewhat static, if one wants to spend it's not straightforward to do the safety measures again and do all the handling like with cold storage.

One handy solution - rather cheap imho - would be SeedSigner, which is not really a HW, but not far from that. Bitcoin only though.

Are mobile wallets the solution?

No. I don't recommend keeping any funds on mobile wallets - of course, unless the mobile wallet is linked to a hardware wallet.

What's your solution?

I have a hardware wallet and of course, safe backup on paper. If the HW dies off, I can make cold storage, or buy another HW, will see.

I expect people will keep telling about keeping the funds offline, in proper wallet, in hardware wallet, ...
I will add something more: make sure you only HODL decentralized coins, which cannot be frozen or stolen from you just for the sake of it.
2299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bangladesh has blocked 331 online casinos on: October 10, 2022, 01:52:27 PM
Hate to see this to be honest when we have politicians who are almost openly laundering money.

I would not be surprised if they'd be expecting bribes here and there for the reopen.
I've seen similar stuff in my country too for far too many years, unfortunately (for example that's why we have probably the worse roads in all EU).
2300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: REASON WHY ONLINE WALLETS ARE HACK on: October 10, 2022, 10:30:18 AM
this is USER ISSUE

You have been thinking only to one use case, and yes, in many cases it's an user issue (usually phishing).

But you have missed the fact a developer with bad intention (for example one about to get fired) can do a small temporary change in such a website (even if it's a known and legit website) and log/save locally all those seeds. And after some days, months or years he can steal all those funds.

Or you've missed that a big number of so called online wallets are custodial wallets, meaning the user gets an account, not an actual proper wallet (the user doesn't own any private keys). Such a website, if gets hacked, will lose all the funds from the hot wallet, which can affect a lot o users. Or it can go bankrupt, or it can start asking for various KYC some may not be happy to give (and freezing/stealing the funds of those who don't comply).

So while the phishing and user issue is indeed the most common problem, it's not the only one that can happen. It's better to just avoid online wallets if that's possible.
