I think that the exchange and cards were supposed to be those that bring the revenue. The spread on the exchange is quite a big money provider if you have plenty of users for it. Of course, on long term the users may vanish while learning that there can be cheaper alternatives.

And crypto com has a history of irresponsibly waste money. Such a gamble was even acquiring that domain name, which sounds great, but was overly expensive (millions iirc) and I am not convinced even now it was worth it.

If they indeed didn't take the crypto winter into account, then they are yet another exchange/company from somebody's list (I think CZ stated at some point that quite a number of exchanges look really bad now).

But, with some luck, crypto winter may be close to an end. If they're lucky, they may survive this one, this time. Still, if they do, they have to become more attractive and get more users, and learn to be more careful with their money.

So you had bitcoins on a website. Well, that was in their wallet (no private key for you).
If that's no longer available I'm afraid that the chances for you to get those coins is slim (I should say 0).
However, this is not an issue with Bitcoin, it's an issue with Miniclip itself, so the only ones who could help is them (i.e. allow you withdraw those coins to your wallet).

Now think it over: what would be the reason they would give you now valuable money you didn't claim when you had the occasion?

Taxation in US is real. You have to declare the capital gains and you have to expect that either Binance US or your bank (or both) will also send that info to IRS (so if you don't declare you may get into troubles).
Also as said, you will withdraw USD to your bank, and this means selling crypto for fiat. If you have not papers on buying that crypto, the entire amount may be considered gains.

I will add that withdrawing 12k in one step to banks can be tricky, some may be asking many questions about where's that money from, and ask about even more papers (I don't know if it's the same in US, but in some other countries that's real, so I'd be wary).

But yes, I would decline such accusation. And the reasons are many:
1. Since I know I cannot prove it cryptographically that I am Satoshi, I would be just another Faketoshi.
2. I guess that many reporter and madman would be looking me up, disturbing me and my family with good and bad, including hate.
3. If I would become somewhat convincing that I could be Satoshi, some may want me dead or come for my alleged money.
4. A convincing enough Satoshi could do very bad to Bitcoin (as price and also as community and development).

So why bother? It cannot do anything good neither to me, nor to Bitcoin itself.

I expect that at every sale you have to match with some purchases you're selling, usually the oldest (but it's up to the user/your friend to choose; you need a clear rule here, else, if choosing randomly you can even get different result on each run), so, in 2013-06-11 (based on that data and the "oldest" logic) you should have nothing left from 1/1 to sell.

But you have no evidence and, even more, people are convinced that you are the one scamming.

I have a Ledger Nano S. When it's going to die, I will most probably not buy Ledger, unless they do something so great I'll forgive them for their many late mistakes.
One device I'm eyeing is SeedSigner. Pretty cheap, smart and I like it. Everything is open source there (OK, excepting the RasPi itself). I like the idea of using images to transfer the information.

I would not be surprised about that mindset, I've seen even here on bitcointalk the mentality of holding the precioussss bitcoins forever.
People have different approach in working with money and it's hard to change their mentality in this matter, especially when they've found the goose with golden eggs.
I wrote here and there on bitcointalk that people should get to also enjoy their money, hence "hodl some, spend some" tends to be more appropriate.

QC is an issue in most phones I've been studying (I was eyeing an update for my 4+ years old phone). But I was looking into less pricey phones.

Then, if one is smart, he can ask for enough opinions and avoid get scammed. Still, scams are possible and I don't see how could they get eradicated on any forum or social media.

It's not a perfect solution, but I don't think that there's any better platform than this.

For the average Joe I recommend hardware wallets, if he can afford it.
If one does just a bit of research, he has a good chance to buy a good enough HW. And unless he does something extremely stupid, he'll be safe.

Paper wallets are obviously cheaper, and I recommend them to tech savvy people who know how to generate them safely, offline, in a live system (with no storage).
But they are somewhat static, if one wants to spend it's not straightforward to do the safety measures again and do all the handling like with cold storage.

One handy solution - rather cheap imho - would be SeedSigner, which is not really a HW, but not far from that. Bitcoin only though.

I have a hardware wallet and of course, safe backup on paper. If the HW dies off, I can make cold storage, or buy another HW, will see.

I will add something more: make sure you only HODL decentralized coins, which cannot be frozen or stolen from you just for the sake of it.

I would not be surprised if they'd be expecting bribes here and there for the reopen.
I've seen similar stuff in my country too for far too many years, unfortunately (for example that's why we have probably the worse roads in all EU).

You have been thinking only to one use case, and yes, in many cases it's an user issue (usually phishing).

But you have missed the fact a developer with bad intention (for example one about to get fired) can do a small temporary change in such a website (even if it's a known and legit website) and log/save locally all those seeds. And after some days, months or years he can steal all those funds.

Or you've missed that a big number of so called online wallets are custodial wallets, meaning the user gets an account, not an actual proper wallet (the user doesn't own any private keys). Such a website, if gets hacked, will lose all the funds from the hot wallet, which can affect a lot o users. Or it can go bankrupt, or it can start asking for various KYC some may not be happy to give (and freezing/stealing the funds of those who don't comply).

So while the phishing and user issue is indeed the most common problem, it's not the only one that can happen. It's better to just avoid online wallets if that's possible.
