1641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT ?? What do you think about it ? ? ? on: December 09, 2022, 06:29:09 PM
For example - The bored monkey for 300 thousand dollars and Pixel cat for 531 thousand dollars

People have tried to convince me that NFTs are more than just some ugly drawings. They didn't convince me fully, but made me no longer be too harsh on NFT per se.
Then you come discussing exactly about such NFTs. My opinion about those? There's an image expressing it very good:

PS. I have a feeling that this topic should be in the Altcoins section. Maybe you move it there...
1642  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: EU crypto taxation proposal will target firms all over the world on: December 09, 2022, 06:17:59 PM
The European Commission aims for the new rules to be enforced on Jan 1. 2026.

It won't be easy. This is only a proposal. This may change greatly in the future while all the possible (and impossible) aspects are negotiated between all the parts and parties.
Then this has become part of the national laws in all the member countries. Here it will change again, in some countries will become stronger and in others weaker.
And I will add that some European countries do better and others do (much) worse at collecting the taxes and the taxation related information.

So, depending on the country, this will become reality (or maybe it already is) and in the case of other countries it's more a "wishful thinking".

I don't say that taxation won't happen, the governments are always hungry for money. (I wish that we'll get someday to the point only active traders will get taxed, and that on the gains; but let's ignore the wishful thinking).
What I say is that really tight taxation won't happen too soon.
1643  Economy / Economics / Re: Have Satoshi dream failed? on: December 09, 2022, 06:04:37 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin as the perfect P2P digital money but today people are forced to pay tax on their holdings. Haven't this make the whole anonymous and freedom dream of Nakamoto failed?

Not really related. Governments will always try to tax everything they can, as good as they can.
In some countries holding is taxed, in other countries only the capital gains (in fiat) are taxed.
People can hide their coins from the government, it's not that hard, but it can be seen as tax evasion and that's illegal.

Satoshi's dream was to give the right tools to avoid the banks if we want to. Taxation is, as you see, not necessarily related to this.
So Satoshi's dream didn't fail. Even more, the things are actually getting better in that direction, ie the number of entities accepting bitcoins for their goods and services is increasing.

1645  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help]Bitcoin Wallet Security on Windows on: December 09, 2022, 04:24:08 PM
Does this tool will not factory reset my computer? I have no experience on bootable device but I will try to do this as my last resort before I reprogram. Thank you

It's something to create a bootable DVD from it. And if you boot from it you'll run an antivirus.
It's not meant to "factory reset" your system. But Windows10 has options for "factory reset" too (I don't know though how good they are).
I will add that if you have a properly licensed Win10 I think that even if you do a clean re-install (and you don't set a key), Microsoft will know and make your new Win10 licensed again. (At least I've done that not long ago and on my surprise this has happened).

I’m already considering purchasing hardware wallet this Christmas as gift to myself. This computer fiasco I experienced motivates me to invest on hardware wallet this time.

Good call.

OP, delete your browser. Since you get pop-ups in it. Use Firefox, today it is more secure when compared to other browsers, add extensions uBlock Origin. Try installing the CCleaner program. I don’t know if there are free versions of this program now, but it has the ability to view all processes that have access to startup. Delete everything that you do not know, and preferably everything in general. Check the task manager if there are processes in it that you did not start. Next, try installing an antivirus, but it should be paid for. Today, all free antivirus software detects viruses but does not completely remove them.
Don't skimp on your safety. And as a friendly tip, start learning Linux systems. You can see how they work by installing VirtualBox and Linux.

Linux is also a good advice, but the starting part of only removing the browser may not help much if his system is indeed in trouble (and if one hides the problem it doesn't mean the problem is gone). Plus, although I tried to keep Firefox as main browser, it turned out that some websites (and apps) just don't work properly on Firefox (some development houses decided that testing only on Chromium is fine/enough).

If OP decides to stay on windows then indeed, an antivirus that offers real time (and URL) protection is a must. And in any case, uBlock Origin must not be missing.
1646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Casascius, Lealana and NastyFans coin give away competition... on: December 09, 2022, 04:15:00 PM

A lot of fuzzy text/info there...
I start to think that this may be a contest only for the customers of that shop ie people who actually buy stuff from one of those shops, especially as the currency for that portal is that Particl coin.
If I'm wrong, OP should clear this up.
1647  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: December 09, 2022, 03:20:16 PM
I've just read about an anonymous VISA card reloadable with crypto - USDT, USDC, ETH and some tokens: https://cointelegraph.com/news/fintech-company-zelf-launches-anonymous-visa-debit-card-with-crypto-recharge
Interestingly it's an USA company launching them (ZELF) and also interestingly (but in in a bad way) Bitcoin is not in the list of coins.

I don't know how will this go (anonymous, hmmm), if anyone will get to use this, I'd like to hear details.
1648  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Ce sunt banii on: December 09, 2022, 10:59:15 AM

1649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should El Salvador Fork Bitcoin? on: December 09, 2022, 10:49:07 AM
El Salvador forked pre taproot bitcoin and adopted it as its native digital currency

Or would it be negative and limiting in some way?

Keep in mind that any fork of Bitcoin is not bitcoin, it's just a pathetic altcoin.

So the fork coin will not be Bitcoin, they'll have an altcoin for which the value would become very low.
Just look at BCH, BSV and all other forks of bitcoin.

Of course, luckily, they'll still have their pre-fork bitcoins too and if they don't waste that, they can have the choice to get back to their senses and use the proper bitcoin they still have.
1650  Other / Meta / Re: We can not discuss if 'ChipMixer is a honeypot or not' outside their own thread? on: December 09, 2022, 10:41:35 AM
Moderators locked my thread!
~snip~
Seriously theymos? Does not it make obvious things look more obvious?

Proof? Missing again?  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
You don't even check your own topic correctly, your "concern" looks more and more like spam and you want to be taken serious. Good luck with that (/s).
1651  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Advise ,please, crypto exchange on: December 09, 2022, 10:33:16 AM
Don't go with best rates, go with decent rates but with high reputation. For this, I'd go with Coinbase for US peeps, and Binance for everywhere else.

As always though — not your keys, not your coins. Only use exchanges for trading, not for long-term holding. https://notyourkeys.org

I second this: always choose the platform (and users!) with best reputation, not necessarily the cheapest ones.

If you have the time, a decentralized exchange can help you at least with the (lack of) withdrawal fees, but you have to learn/understand your ways there since you may give - by mistake - other users the opportunity to scam you.
If you don't and you don't mind the requirement for KYC (however, don't take this lightly), then you'll use a centralized exchange, and MK4's short list is pretty good. There you'll probably need to fill KYC info and you'll have to keep an eye on the withdrawal fees (if the amount is big, it doesn't matter, but if it's small you may want to wait to pay less times the withdrawal fee).
1652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All Hal Finney's Tweets on: December 09, 2022, 09:46:33 AM
Not sure how to interpret what Elon wrote

LOL! This stands even in a lot of cases people would think that Elon was much clearer in his tweets Cheesy

The late Hal is a legend in these circles, but his Twitter activity doesn't really bear any significance for Bitcoin nor would the deletion of his account cause an important loss for the ecosystem. If that number on your picture is correct, he made only 41 tweets, and most of them don't even have anything to do with BTC. Some are also retweets of what other people said.

You are partly correct; but "never say never". We don't know when somebody decides he wants to check Hal's awake hours or writing style or whatever... let's not waste what we can easily keep.

Since I am not so big of a Twitter user, I had to check your image for Hal's Twitter handle (of the many accounts called Hal Finney, heh).
But imho a much better approach is to archive this as text so people can also search in it. And I think/hope that this will do the job: Archive of Hal Finney's tweets and replies
1653  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help]Bitcoin Wallet Security on Windows on: December 09, 2022, 09:29:54 AM
What’s the best AV or software that can help me to determine if my desktop is already infected by Malware. I browse a couple of site that has a lot of popping ads mainly from the free streaming website of anime and sports. I have malwarebytes and windows defender as protection but I’m still not confident with security because I still keep detecting .pup items on my malwarebytes result even I already done it multiple times.

Currently I delete my electrum wallet on my desktop as safety precaution. I don’t want to reformat my computer because I have a lot of apps installed. Is there trusted AV that you can suggest that can clean completely my desktop from potential malware?

1. Get for free a tool like Kaspersky Rescue Disk (https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-rescue-disk), make off it either a bootable USB, either (easier, if you have device) a CD/DVD, boot from it, update and then clean your system. Other major vendors also have rescue disks, if you don't think that Kaspersky is good enough.

2. Consider acquiring a hardware wallet and keep your coins (actually keys) on that; it'll help you sleep better.

1654  Other / Meta / Re: The long waited Nickname has been given (The Sceptical Chymist) on: December 09, 2022, 09:16:51 AM
The Pharmacist has been asking our boss (theymos) to change his name to The Sceptical Chymist and today I discovered that the username has finally been changed.

LOL! Thanks for bringing this up, I would be missing the news for some more time, maybe even days.
What a nice present! Funny enough, I even told him that he may get the name change granted as Christmas present.

Who said that theymos cannot be kind? Just give the man some time! Cheesy
Congrats The Sceptical Chymist!

1656  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is ChipMixer a probable HoneyPot? on: December 08, 2022, 06:58:22 PM

After being part of the discussion on CM topic, discussion even FatManTerra have contributed, you still decided to open a new topic and spread your.. let's be kind and only call it useless drama.
And you want our input.

My conclusion would be that maybe you are part of a government agency and you're trying hard, maybe even with multiple accounts and on multiple channels, to discredit ChipMixer.
What you say about that?
1657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does the bitcoin community currently trust Tether? on: December 08, 2022, 01:21:48 PM

1. One Bitcoin related motto is "don't trust, verify". Tether is .. based on trust.
2. Tether never managed to prove beyond doubt that they have all their issued coins properly backed with really valuable stuff.

So at least I was never convinced by them. However, the "community" is not homogenous and some may be trusting Tether. But I would not count them as a majority.
And something more: why are you asking in Bitcoin discussion? Imho this is more meaningful in trading or altcoins areas.
1658  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Ce sunt banii on: December 08, 2022, 01:15:31 PM

1659  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: delayed electrum transaction on: December 07, 2022, 09:18:33 PM
Okay my next transactions i will just increase the charge rate to speed up the whole process to avoid any delayed transactions

For the next transactions you should go to websites like http://mempool.space and take a look.
You will see whether the mempool is congested or not (if it's not, then minimum fee is fine). You will see how often the last few blocks were mined keep in mind that the average is meant to be 10 minutes, hence you can try to do an educated guess what's going to happen next.
All this can help with the fee and can also help avoiding headaches.
