Seems like only satoshi could do this (if they were alive ) Really?! So there are a lot of open source applications in bitcoin ecosystem and you have found only Satoshi's work?! OK, he/they was/were/is/are genius and the trust is maximum, but since realistically we won't see him/them again, let's look for options that are possible.

Advising us not to be too judgmental
OK, you may be somewhat right on this. I also try to not take sides and from my point of view you seem to be a tad on CZ side. But maybe it's the language barrier and I'm wrong... 2. Contrarily, he was aware of the bad situation of the company which made him want to sell all his shares there, but did not know it was that bad.
You've pretty much expressed the same thing I meant, just with the "contrarily" in front. Maybe I should have been a bit more clear 3. And as for Coinbase and others, they can fire back at him and his company, I don't care, I don't entirely support him but some of his actions. What I want is for them to force regulation among themselves by revealing what they are doing wrong. Binance is not left out of this, let others attack it too and let people know what is going on in there in the bid to better protect people's money.
I also cannot care less for Coinbase, they are overall bad for the ecosystem, still the Americans prefer them. But Binance is not really better, and I cannot support CZ backstabbing, although it can bring good results for the ecosystem. But, let's just think, why didn't CZ do this kind of actions years ago? Instead of calling for transparency, he did odd (at best) actions many times in the "history" and Binance is faking its volumes just as badly as (or maybe even more than) the rest. I find also funny that the funds he's proposing to aid other companies are all in his shitcoins, not in bitcoin. So, sadly, all his actions are not for the common good, they're cold business calculations.

"Grayscale has used that capital to buy more and more BTC. Now, it's accumulated over 643,572 bitcoins, which is around $10.12 billion in assets as of the time of this writing"
Grayscale for sure is under a lot of pressure right now. As far as I know, they are struggling to find additional funds and one of the possible outcomes of this situation is that they might be forced to sell all the 643,572 bitcoins. How far BTC can drop if this will happen?
Let's speculate.
First of all, I don't think that they are that stupid to buy high and sell low. If they wanted to sell, they could have done that when the trend has change. However, let's speculate: it would depend greatly on how much time they have. If time is not a big issue (but then why don't just wait a couple more months?) then they (or their brokers) would sell so slowly you may not even notice. Then the price may not even go noticeably lower. If they just dump everything (which would be overly stupid for their business too), then the price will go much lower, but I don't know how low - it depends if it's done in steps, it depends where and how big the support amounts are - but going down to 10k, 8k or even lower would not be a surprise, especially as such a move comes with public declarations - sooner or later - and all the panic and drama you can imagine.

I know... but I for one have no interest in harvesting user data, it's just that I got my hands tied at the moment with other stuff.
Even better, just open-source both of them. Then operations will be crystal clear. I (thankfully) don't need to buy any servers to run this, because they only talk to Bitcointalk servers.
Indeed, open source would be the best. However, from what I see, I think that most of those coming with ideas for bitcointalk app wanted to also get a few cents too from google ads, since nobody came forward with an open source idea.

Yes, he's instrumental in crashing FTX, but is FTX and SBF guiltless? 1. You cannot really tell people what to think, OK? So that title is.. not the best choice. 2. I think that CZ was not aware of how very bad is the situation of FTX. So it was an ugly backstabbing, but on the other hand a lucky strike for uncovering a huge scam. 3. Keep in mind that CZ pretty much tried the same with Coinbase and although this exchange is a bit more solid and it was proven that CZ tweet on Coinbase was FUD (and soon removed), people still withdrew a could of billions worth of bitcoin from Coinbase (which is good if kept in self custody, but not great if just moved to another centralized system ie Binance). So while it's most probably not CZ that orchestrated the huge scam at FTX, he's has his own "sins" and people have their right to judge him, at least for those.

Hey guys. I was just curious if most people actually modify their .conf file. Do you set a limit on the connection? Do you set up rpc info? I was thinking of connecting it to a Ledger device. Any neat ideas on that? Thoughts?
I didn't manage to make my bitcoin core work with the Ledger HW, but I also didn't spend too much time on that, since I do prefer the way Electrum works with Ledger. Hence after having Bitcoin node, I've also set up an Electrum Server (well, a block explorer too) and I use now my Ledger with Electrum on my local Electrum server over my local Bitcoin node. I've documented my steps, including the bitcoin.conf contents, here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5367296Some things may have changed slightly since then, I may double check one of the days...

I just noticed that people were selling their bitcointalk account here And I am wondering how much mine would be worth It is almost 10 years old ! Long ago selling accounts was not a big problem. People didn't think that high level accounts can be used for scams. Signature campaigns were not the business they are now either. Back then there was even a website that was calculating the worth of an account. But no longer. Selling accounts is now stupid - although allowed officially, seller, buyer, the account to be sold will be tagged when caught. And it's a good step forward, since the reasons for such a deal can be at least shady, if not plain scam. Plus now the merit system makes leveling up difficult for spammers, so the way the worth was calculated in 2013-2015 (I don't know the exact years) is different from what it would mean now. All in all, it's very difficult to know how much it worth. And unless you want to get a no collateral loan (and then the lender will assess the worth and risks) or sell your account for a few bucks to an 1xbit spammer (yikes!) I am not sure why would you care...

Makes me want to support the development of an unofficial iOS (and Android?) Bitcointalk app.
Actually it shouldn't be too hard anyway, you're not scraping any data. Just interacting with PHP endpoints that will probably never change within the next 50 years or so.
The problem is not the difficulty, it's the trust issue. Such an app could harvest sensitive data (starting with your password and continuing with the private messages), hence the few attempts for doing this were not really welcomed... Plus, installing random apps onto the phone (possibly even directly from the apk in case of Android) is never a great idea.

Am I the only one who believes this may be used to further stigmatize Bitcoin and our community as a big scam by Amazon, while they pocket some fresh money? I wonder how many inaccuracies will be in this mini series.
Very good points. Promote fear of bitcoin and also cash in big: two birds with one stone. I find it more an attempt to milk recent events in the way Neflix has done it with F1 in "Drive to Survive". Just with actors. And for that a script mush be written fast.
What a pile of garbage that is, it's become so cringy when they try to insert their quota of drama into everything it's just unwatchable. There are people loving it, like there are people loving the news from 6 PM (those with car crashes and dramas and all the crap in the world). And this means money, profits. They don't have to be masterpieces. Quick and dirty with big rewards. Pretty much the logo of our days' businesses.

best way to attract and seek attention out there to let people know about bitcoin There's no best way. Usually people talk about their own experience, or, when the price is growing and Bitcoin reaches the news, then those news can be taken into discussions. But if you have no experience in Bitcoin, you may get to be perceived as somebody who want to earn from others' work (eg referrals) and maybe that's why you're approaching them. Also bitcoin is not the best investment for everybody and if you talk about bitcoin as investment you may be perceived in a bad light. Even more, if you convince people buy bitcoin and then they panic sell at a loss, they may try to hold you responsible. It's not an easy task. On the other hand, the technical parts of bitcoin are superb for the tech inclined. Or Bitcoin can be a very easy way to pay or be paid or simply send money abroad. If you go for technical details or for bitcoin-as-currency and mostly warn about the risks of bitcoin-as-investment, you may have better chances. Or, you can simply pay with bitcoin for this or that jobs, so people do start finding it useful.

I am not 100% that my ideas are 100% valid, but I'll still write them down. At least if I'm wrong, I'll learn something useful. ----- because I am way too used to Electrum. So bear with me, I am trying to learn and improve.
I have the same problem. And the path I took was to install an Electrum server locally, using my local Bitcoin node. And I'm using Electrum with my node. I have been running a Bitcoin Core Full Node through Tor 24 out of 7 for a while to support the network and thought why not use it as well since I have it anyway. If I import multiple watch only addresses and private keys into the same Core wallet, is there any way they can be tied to the same owner with Coin Control used properly? Can they be tied if transactions are broadcasted from the same Tor identity?
I think that if an agency has a lot of bitcoin core nodes in the network and you broadcast one after another transactions from those various addresses or wallets, there may be a small theoretical chance (I may be wrong with this though). But you can disconnect now and then, hence getting different peers, and then I think that you should be fine. Or, do you think amnesic Tor sessions (Tails) where I open up Electrum, import just a single private key, broadcast the transaction, dispose of the session and redo it later with the next private key is a better overall behavior than the above? I think that the tracking via Electrum servers can be done much easier than through Bitcoin core. But if you go with completely different wallets and sessions I think that this is also an OK option. You may want though to also force Electrum connect to different server at each run (I don't know how to do that from Tails).

I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this because our brain and thinking is total disaster in term of creating anything random.
Exactly. One would pick some nice words, one could pick the words alphabetically, one may not know / care that those words can exist multiple times in a seed... If somebody has issues with the seed generated by his wallet (works he doesn't know nor want for some reason), a better way is to simply generate 1-2 more wallets until the words are good enough. The result is that the seed is still much better than the one the user would have been picking by himself word by word.

Auf, why would you wish that? I mean, I agree around Coinbase, but the collapse of a huge platform like Binance would just bring general harm to the whole industry. Just look what hit the industry took because of FTX. Because the giant centralized crypto platforms that work on fractional reserves or no reserves at all because the lack of regulations and scrutiny must - sooner or later - disappear. You gave FTX as example. If FTX would have been left alive, it would have been only wasting (much) more of investors' and users' money. Do you want the same from Binance (i.e. waste money) if it's the case? Learn to keep your funds in your own wallet instead of others' pocket, then you won't care much if this or that platform falls. And the price.. that will recover, don't worry, as soon as trust is restored in the industry.

There are an error ?
You are pretty much correct. I won't go into details that there's an average of 10 minutes and so on. But yes, if the hash rate drops a lot, the next adjustment will come in ... much later. But the thing is that realistically it's very unlikely to have such a major drop. This is the beauty of being decentralized. Many countries/regions. Many not even using electricity from the grid. They can't all just go down all together.

Do you really see Bitcoin as a religion?
I guess that you're referring to Bitcoin price here, since technically it works on proven math/IT/cryptography with easy to reach source code, nothing "untouchable" people have to "believe in". So back to price. Bitcoin has scarcity and very well thought tech, but in order to have good price there's a need at least for demand. Hence a degree of trust is still needed. Now, I see two group of "believers": * those who understand fairly well the math and relationships behind this and will say "it's not a religion" * those who don't grasp all this and just see the price go sky high now and then; they keep their fingers crossed or even pray to get rich (quick)

I'm really curious about what you all think about cryptocurrency. I've been wanting to start investing in it for a while now, but I feel like I don't know enough about it to make good decisions. Do you have any advice?
My advice is to learn as much as you can as fast as you can. And don't take rushed decisions. * Crypto and bitcoin investments are different, with different risk levels. You may want to ignore everything that's not bitcoin until you "level up". * Bitcoin price is very volatile. This means that if you don't know what you're doing and you're just rushing it, you can easily buy high and sell low. Now most tell that the price will soon start going up; there's no guarantee it will do so. ** Learn the basics and see if you get to indeed trust that bitcoin price will go up ** Make sure you invest only money you afford to lose or keep locked in bitcoin for long ** Learn about DCA ** Learn the difference between Bitcoin and "whatever Bitcoin" (various altcoins with Bitcoin in their name) ** Learn how to keep your bitcoins safe (learn to use a wallet, transactions and transaction fees, may buy a hardware wallet) ** Learn how to withdraw the coins to your custody (not your keys, not your coins) Then you can start enjoying the ride. You can skip or postpone steps, but it's your own decision to make: time (price) vs knowledge and risks to do things wrong. I don't know where the sweet spot is.

It all depends on screen size, resolution and browser settings (zoom). I don't think that it makes much of a difference (both are small, lol!). I am not against it, but I also don't think it worth the hassle for the change.
I somewhat agree with SFR10 here: a more interesting change could be to also increase a little the size for normal post text too.
