2321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best GPU's to mine ZCASH with? on: June 01, 2017, 12:09:53 AM
I am going to buy new GPU for my gaming PC and looking forward to get GTX 1080 or 1080Ti. I already have AMD ETH rig.

My plan is making my gaming PC to mine whatever Nvidia card can mine (Zcash, Skein etc.) when I do not game/use it.

This means it will mine likely 20 hours a day. PSU is Seasonic X750-KM3.

I do not plan to use more than two GPUs as I will be using current system without buying any other hardware/upgrading. This is supposed to be gaming PC but why not mine some on it.

Actually my mobo (Asrock E3V5 Gaming) only supports Crossfire but no SLI so  dual Nvdia cards will make no good for me for gaming but only for mining.

One option for dual Nvdia GPU would be using one of them for gaming while the other one mines and both of them mining when I dont game.

Electricity cost 0.11-0.13 USD/Kwh.

I am more inclined to a single GTX 1080ti rather than dual GTX 1070/1080 considering no SLI support.

I think my Skylake Xeon 1260L v5 CPU will not bottleneck a 1080ti as I can OC it to stock i7 6700/7700 level easily as my passmark test result indicate.

If I invest 950-1000 USD local purchase (or 775-800 USD international purchase) for a 1080Ti now does it make sense for my conditons?

If yes which brand and model would you suggest to buy?

Can it ROI in 4-5 months or till the Volta GTX GTX 2070/2080 comes into market and kills it price and performance wise with current coins Nvida can dig?

High performance gaming will be a very good side benefit for me.

Thanks.

Phil posted this but best deal I've seen for a 1080TI

side note anyone using the gigabyte 1080 TI currently?

Ax1500i cannot successfully output power to pandaminer off 120v, 220v+ required?

OEM PSU plus transformer works at 215 mh/s

?

something is wrong

this psu should do it

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139079&cm_re=corsair_ax1500i-_-17-139-079-_-Product

get that transformer out of the way do not use it is low quality.

if you plug the psu into the wall and boot the panda what happens?

my panda ran fine on this psu plugged into 120 or 240.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182384&cm_re=rosewill_tokamak-_-17-182-384-_-Product

your psu is better.

so something is broken

how old is your home/apartment?

is the plug you use close to the circuit breaker?

can you turn the breaker off to figure what else is on the line?

the transformer was not used when i went direct to the wall, just the corsair to the panda,

I guess if it's drawing 1440w @ 220v? 120v power loss is not supporting this unit?
house was built 2010, this plug is only 20 ft from circuit breaker, nothing else on the line other than a monitor for the rig

I will just have 240v put in for this, this week even if it's a temp setup . .

What are the future plans of this OS as of 6/17

Lots of idea's, not much time Smiley

I'll update this thread in the upcoming weeks.
haha completely understood, looking forward to it as it's already very sharp!

Now the panda does not recognize any GPU on board. .

are you changing the settings? did you switch out of  chinese to english correctly?
did you try to change the drivers?

I tried to run the PSU off 120v without the transformer

I've since switched back to the oem panda PSU and originally it recognized them like normal and mined for a short period but now it does not recognize them at all

I have already switched it into English and I made no edits other than swapping the PSU

Did I just fry the motherboard?

Edit

Windows could have updated the drivers around the same time?

2328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining on: May 31, 2017, 04:04:34 PM
The image of nvOC is 14.9gb but the two 16gb usb sticks I have tried only have 14.7gb or 14.8gb capacity.
I keep getting errors at the end when using hddrawcopy Sad

What USB sticks are you using? Is it this one https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-16GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B00S5V5PMY?th=1 ?

Yes; there is a link in the OP as well.
I was asking him to see if they did not have the capacity needed with some of the images, would you recommend the 32gb sticks to alleviate this issue / have you tested them? I do not mind spending 4 dollars to delete a possible headache xD

I am not sure what USB keys bentcrypto is using.  It is unfortunate that most companies market USB keys beyond the actual usable capacity.

The 16gb Lexar USB keys I recommend have a 16.0 gb capacity, any of the nvOC images will fit on one.

The 32gb version is marginally faster.  The only other reason I can think of to get the 32gb vs the 16gb (while the 16gb is still $8) is if you really like the color orange.

Okay that is great news, and I was contemplating the 64gb because I love green haha xD
I have 2x 16gb on order

2331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Price Adjustment! on: May 31, 2017, 02:01:08 PM
I received the first 3/5 units on Monday, at the moment only managed to setup 2 units. 1st miner is only running with 7 GPUs at 202 MH/s, I sent an email to pandaminer asking for instructions/advice but no reply from them yet as for the 2nd unit, its working well at 230 MH/s with all GPUs running. Going to start on the 3rd unit soon when I can find a place for it. I didn't expect the pandas to be so noisy. Out of the 3 units, 1 unit comes with 10 fans(5+5) and the other 2 units with 6 fans(3+3).
Yeah they're crazy loud ..  what do you think about mine only getting 215 mh/s?
my video for reference https://youtu.be/lOh6hgTRYBY
Also did yours come loaded in english?
All my GPUs are hashing at 28.9 MH/s, I think you may need to fine tune yours. The 3 units comes with W10 chinese version which  is suitable for me. Grin
As far as fine tuning do you feel its due to the power setup ?

Must be nice xD I was lost in the sauce trying to figure that into english!

So which 1080 ti do you guys recommend?

These would be my options:

Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition, 11GB GDDR5X, 352 bit
Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, 11GB GDDR5X, 352 bit
MSI GTX 1080 TI GAMING X 11G, 11GB GDDRX5, 392-bit
MSI GTX 1080 TI ARMOR, 11GB GDDRX5, 392-bit
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti STRIX GAMING O11G 11GB DDR5X 352-bit
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti STRIX GAMING 11GB DDR5X 352-bit

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Went ahead and got this one: Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition, 11GB GDDR5X, 352 bit (do you have the same one Phil? may I call you Phil? Smiley )

Tried different drivers:
- 378.92 gives about 680 h/s on ZEC at stock
- 382.33 (latest) - 715 - 730 h/s on ZEC at stock; seems to be the better choice. Running only one card on Win 10.

Then I moved to Skein. Using ccminer-2.0-release-x64-cuda-8.0 and added ccminerAlexis78 build:

Seems to be the best profitability at the moment. (5% pool fee factored in for fees + other losses):

The aorus is too big  for my setup  but it is a great card.

I bounce back and forth from zec to skein.

I have 14 1080 ti's

So far the Founder cards all seem to be equal to each other.

The msi aero  are a blower style no back plate but I truly liike them

the aorus  has the best hash rate  but is fat  and wants  two 8 pin pcie wires  if you are doing a 1 or 2 card build it is the way to go.

Phil do you have any of these cards you posted a couple pages back?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/292077280960?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

If so, what is your setup with them?

No I have

 1 aorus
 7 founders
5 msi aero ---- 1 is yet to arrive.

2 galax katana's 1070
1 gigabyte 1070 mini  yet to arrive

that gigabyte is very close to the aorus.   If I got one.

I would run  a 2 card rig with the aorus  in a case with good fans.

I would put it in my friends shop in brooklyn  and pay zero for power.  We would split the coins.

I have a few deals like this.

Do you believe I could run the same 3 card setup like with the Aero's or no?

3 1080 ti's riser free won't happen

I do all my 3 card  1080 ti's  with 2 on the board and one on a riser.

a riser free setup with 3 cards  2 msi aeros 1 short mini 1080 or 1070 on the board can be done  with the 1 card short at the end.

I would not try it in a case.

However  I am going to build a katana katana gigabyte in a case.

Here is an asus, katana, katana   in a case  a bit too hot

I am looking to mirror your awesome 3 card setup here

Phil I ordered the cards, the MB, the ram, I ordered the LT version of ram because it was the same price with a cooler face plate xD

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G4400T-Dual-Core-2-90Ghz-H2-CPU-/272645034798?
Do you still think this is best processor?

I am going to be putting together two rigs, one for myself and another for a friend

I ordered the 2x msi aero 11gb + 1080 mini

He ordered 2x http://www.ebay.com/itm/292077280960?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT + 1080 mini

Ordered this MB, he did as well https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128975&cm_re=Z270P-_-13-128-975-_-Product

said LT ram http://www.ebay.com/itm/252679706193?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

so now I am hunting processor & SSD

Wonder about PSU setup, more so for the gigabyte rig? Do you think it will be possible to do the 3 card setup if these gigabytes are larger?

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128975&cm_re=Z270P-_-13-128-975-_-Product
I would like to use your software, has anyone setup their rig with this board and your software before? I do not see it on the supported OP

What is the opinion on SSD vs USB drive, it makes sense to use a usb for the HD if its fully functional for this setup, however if an SSD is needed that is not an issue however given the choice why not use USB?

I will order one of these and make an image for it:  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128975

I understand why members are hesitant to try a USB key, cheap USBs are usually terrible: and fast ones are usually expensive.

The Lexar drives I recommend are both fast and cheap.  Other members have requested I fully support SSDs again; so I am going to re-add full support for them in a later version.

Currently you will either need to use manual intervention or make some changes to the system or bash files when using an ssd.

Personally I use all Lexar 16gb USBs with my rigs; except one has a Lexar 32gb I got to test.  I think they are the better choice over a more expensive ssd.

This is my reasoning:

The 16gb Lexar's I recommend are very fast (watch one of the nvOC demo videos if you don't believe me)

are very cheap: $8

are easy to attach to image then remove and reattach to a rig

vs a regular SSD or HDD allow you to use at least one less cable on your rig.

Finally using a usb key allows users to try nvOC without needing to install over their previous OS (no commitment needed).

Although one could use a sata to usb adapter with an ssd, or an type of usb ssd / adapter (there are a lot)  and it would match all the advantages other than cost.  I recommend spending $8 on a Lexar 16gb and seeing if it is fast enough for you; if it is (and most likely it is) then you just saved ~$30 per rig.

I would really appreciate that, I just ordered 2x boards to setup Nvidia rigs with

Thank you for the detailed explanation, I am looking forward to trying your software

I will be honest however, I do not have experience using Linux, would you recommend against using your nvOC OS because of that or is there a particular guide/link you'd recommend?

Watch the demo videos I made.  Configuring oneBash will probably be the hardest part, but I think you will be able to do it.  If you have questions, I should be able to answer them.

Also I am reasonably sure that if an ssd is imaged while connected to the build pc with a USB-to-sata adapter and then attached to a rig via the usb-to-sata adapter that it will also work fully with all the current nvOC images.  Not sure why I didn't think of this before.

I will order the USB you rec'd and give it a go, especially since you're ordering a https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128975&cm_re=Z270P-_-13-128-975-_-Product to create image. I will post video results once I get it operational, I should have all my parts in by the end of next week

this is about

1400  for 1080ti
  350  for  1080
 110   for   mobo
  40    for   ssd
 110   for   psu
   35   for  ram

2150 with no sales or deals     I think a pandaminer is now  about 2500 shipped to usa.

this will do say 1700 sols for zec  at 500 watts at kill-a-watt-meter   and be quiet .

the panda miner will do 2300 sols at  1100 watts maybe 1000 watts and be loud

Is 1080 half price of 1080Ti?
 note correction made

the 1070 mini is 350 at newegg

the 1080 mini is 500 at newegg

1070 mini

1080 mini
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500414

so left to right:

msi aero 1080 ti --------  msi aero 1080 ti ----------- zotac mini 1070  or 1080

and here is a great psu to run 3 cards  very good price.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07236V1499

these are really good  do not worry that they are rosewill  they are a higher quality psu
Hey Phil sorry I meant to ask you this, when you orient left to right, what is the "front" of the rig which would dictate where left is
the zotac mini  goes on the edge  give me a minute or two

here you go

thank you a lot for that, very helpful

My next question is in regards to the SSD, is 128 rec.?
What do you think about running nvOC on a 16gb flash drive?

if it runs like smOS it will be good.

if you go windows get the 120-128 ssd  as they can be found under 50 bucks

you rec'd the http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-SuperNOVA-220-P2-0750-RX-750W-ATX12V-EPS12V-SLI-Ready-CrossFire-Ready-80-/382026031239?

the 1080 TI aero is pcie 6+2 pin x2 correct? so the 4x pcie 6+2 pin on this PSU is consumed by the 2x MSI Aero
the 1080 mini is 6 pin? is it 6 pin x 2? the 750 has 2x 6 pin available in addition to the 4x 6+2 pin

ordered the cards xD

What are your thoughts on windows for linux for these rigs? your 3 card setup is running on linux or windows?

no  they are 8 pin 6 pin 1 cable does the trick  just make sure tdp is 70%

I see. .  so run one 6+2 to each of the 3 cards? Simply plug one in at a time, edit them (is there a guide you recommend on how to do this? sorry this is my first diy rig build), rinse and repeat x3

I ordered one of these 1080 mini per your rec

Pretty much load one card boot load drivers I use. Nvidia 378.78

Once it loads load Msi 4.3. Then

Set clocks

Power 70%
Core 150
Memory -100
Fan 75%

Then load ewbf 3.3 miner. I point it to nicehash and mine Zec.

Nicehash will auto convert the Zec to btc.

It will do close to 1800 sols which is close to 18 used a day.

Should be 550 watts at kwatt meter. Which is fine for the Psu.
is that 550 watts on 240v?

What are your thoughts on nvOC vs windows? Also I do not have experience in Linux O_o

Maybe 530 on 240 watts.

I was not able to load nvOC. So at the moment I am locked into windows 10.

Now I love smOS for Amd cards.

And I will get a working nvOC  but

April and May. Have been amazing two months for me.

Coins exploded I did well.
I redesigned the small solar array for,the spring.

I sold 40 rx cards and switched to Nvidia.

Real world the worst allergies in the last 38 years. I am loaded with antihistamine and either wired or tired.
A relative died another relative is in the hospital but is recovering.
I made 7x 220 mile round trips in bumper to bumper traffic to do the furneral and visit the other one in the hospital .

And finally a shower a wedding a birthday party a graduation.

All in about seven weeks.

Oh forget that Home Depot install four doors 3 sliders and a double front door.

They got the color wrong on one door and today they came back with the correct color but it was damaged in the box .  So I am a bit like holy shit it is a bit too much for me.

Have to say it has been very interesting since the 14th of April.
Sorry for your loss, your life definitely sounds crazy & hectic lately, I also understand the allergies they are killing me this year, allegra seems to be the only OTC that helps me
Any regrets on ditching the rx cards for all Nvidia?

What is not functioning about nvoc and what are you plans to get it operational?
