Why 2 vs 4 card rig setup? Why do you believe this is the best setup, just asking because I'm curious and want to build a 1080 TI rig
4 card rigs are a lot harder to keep the GPUs cool, unless you use risers. I personally prefer 3 card rigs, but current motherboards are either WAY too expen$ive to get proper 3 cards spacing for good cooling on 3 FULL LENGTH boards, or I can use the low-cost stuff and make a point of putting a "short" card in the 3'd slot (like the Gigabyte "ITX" 1070 model) to allow the middle card to have ONE fan completely clear to keep it cool enough. 3 card rigs are a LOT easier to set up then riser rigs, in my experience tend to be noticeably more reliable than riser rigs (riser rigs ARE easier to keep the GPUs cool on though), and the cost difference is very small to nothing after you factor in the cost of the risers, the extra amount of connections needed on your PS (or the extra CABLES to add to it) to power the risers, and the problem that power supply cost per watt starts climbing noticeably faster past about the 650 watt level vs the "additional costs" of 2 MB, 2 CPU, twice as much RAM, 2 HD/SSD/USB keys. You also get the nice part that if you DO have a rig go down, you only lost HALF of your hashrate from 6 cards instead of all of it. If I could get reliable access to that Katana-model 1070 or if someone that DOES normally sell to the US builds a similar model at a SMALL premium to 2-slot card designs, I might start going 4-card rigs regularly, as THOSE things you can keep cool fairly easily on boards like the Biostar Racer board that Phil liked that have 4 slots properly spaced to mount double-slot cards ON the motherboard. NVidia and AMD make "compute" single-slot-wide versions of many of their higher-end GPUs but those things are CRAZY expensive definitely not a good choice for a mining machine (unless you can get a good used one for a LOT off new pricing). The really scary part - as of this morning, the only RX 4xx boards I could find for sale anywhere (I do NOT look at eBay, too many bad experiences there) were all priced HIGHER than the low-end of the GTX 1070 - and the RX 5xx cards I could find weren't much better. We might see a big short-term move of folks to NVidia because the "lower cost" part of the ROI question on the RX 470/480/570/580 isn't THERE any more vs the 1070. I have picked up more of these - Zotac 1070 Mini.... Its going to get crazy soon and its going to get expensive going into the crypto game ... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500408I was lucky to hook up with yslyung and his contacts to complete the deployment of a 6GHs ETH farm, me and my group invested in 210 pieces of RX470-4GB.... 70 x Sapphires Nitro OC's and 140 x Gigabyte G1s. I think those were the last RX470s on planet earth... Type RX580 in Newegg and the result page.... has "Out of Stock" on every each one of them... every brand, 8gb or 4gb

You're an animal phil! Are you mining ZEC? If so what software/pool setup are you using? I'm modeling my farm after yours, you've definitely been an inspiration - imitation is the best form of flattery - so they say Thanks again for all the awesome input phil!

this is about
1400 for 1080ti 350 for 1080 110 for mobo 40 for ssd 110 for psu 35 for ram
2150 with no sales or deals I think a pandaminer is now about 2500 shipped to usa.
this will do say 1700 sols for zec at 500 watts at kill-a-watt-meter and be quiet .
the panda miner will do 2300 sols at 1100 watts maybe 1000 watts and be loud
Is 1080 half price of 1080Ti?

left to right 1080TI/1080TI/1070? Do you have a picture of that setup? That makes a lot of sense to me, especially the efficiency of that rig. . . How do I set that up on a "rig" , how could I deploy multiple rigs w/ that setup effectively?

Is 1080 half price of 1080Ti? note correction made the 1070 mini is 350 at newegg the 1080 mini is 500 at newegg 1070 mini https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168145004081080 mini https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500414so left to right: msi aero 1080 ti -------- msi aero 1080 ti ----------- zotac mini 1070 or 1080 That's funny I just asked about the orientation of the cards xD Power draw on the 1070 vs the 1080? Per the price do you find the 1080 to be worth it vs the 1070 / about the same? / 1070 better value?

Those are biostar z170. Newegg still has them . But that setup won't work in the summer. But in the garage with 45 f outdoor temp or lower it ran from nov to march Sold them all to switch to the 1080 ti for the summer. 22 amps is now 10-11

Does windows 10 unleash hell for anyone else? its unstable as hell for my 5 card rig, claymore stops mining for no reason sometimes, their hashrates are either under performing (compared to windows 7) or just unstable going from 20 to 25 every few seconds. anyone have any advice on getting it stable? im running rx 580/rx 480 and rx 470 on the same rig using the modded driver trick, could that be the problem?

did you flash your cards? if so I got nothing. now if you did not flash cards I have some ideas. first of all you have to google how to stop updates. as a five card miner should not be a pc and updates can kill your mining my windows 10 do not up date. and I setup up an exclusion file for my software against windows defender on desk top I have a folder: software 1 in that folder a folder mining software in that all my mining software. I go to windows defender exclusions I exclude the folders software 1 mining software and the software runs

After moving to Linux, I sleep better now... and mining have very much longer uptime, stability and consistency.

Does nvoc have remote management similar to smOS to control rigs? Also have been checking smOS for the new SRR and still not released yet. Am looking forward to getting one with a couple of the expansion boards. Thanks

Hey, never tried it before, is it working with rx 5xx series? also is it paid or free? i have only one rig so paying for it would be a little meaningless, i've since removed the rx 580 and ran the other cards on the old drivers and they are running smoothly

I have SRR in my farm too to manage around 33 rigs - pretty good this SRR - the farm is 99% up and green every day.
