2361  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Youtube Scam in Action on: October 17, 2022, 09:13:49 AM
One thing that I wanted to know, is that Youtuber is popular that has many subscribers? Do you think it is worth listening to him?

Really?? So a youtuber posts scam links and you are still interested in listening to him?
What is wrong with you, people?!

I guess that the advertised 718% staking made some get hooked, but keep in mind that everything that sounds too good to be true is most probably scam. However, do as you think with your money.
2362  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is anyone working in a "pruned download"? on: October 17, 2022, 09:11:13 AM
That's it. It doesn't make sense to download the blockchain again and again. I got tired when I first tried lol.

Pruned node makes sense to
* those who have an old wallet and want to get their money off without getting into more complex things (getting private keys out and so on)
* to the average Joe who will use only one wallet

Whoever wants to play a little more and do some tests, either buys a HDD and keeps the blockchain, either goes for a SPV wallet.
2363  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Youtube Scam in Action on: October 17, 2022, 08:27:01 AM
If one seeks for easily presented things on Youtube, that's OK.
But if one clicks on links from Youtube without being 100% certain he knows what he's doing, sorry, but he deservers his fate.
What I want to say is that Youtube has a very long history of videos with links to websites that are shady or plain scam.
...And that's not only in crypto.

But, as I keep saying, this kind of warnings may be of no help since for many (especially newcomers) the greed is too high and the knowledge is too low. Dangerous combination.
2364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Prophecy on: October 15, 2022, 10:19:38 PM
I can't go to church and believe a prophecy that Bitcoin's price will increase by a certain amount, and this is not what any one should do.

A prophecy is usually inexact. And a prophecy about bitcoin price reaching a certain amount can easily become true, since it doesn't have a time constraint.
So it ends up into either getting to the expected price, either to "patience, my son".

However, advertising at the church bitcoin or any investments is risky: it can easily make (impatient and rather poor) people poorer instead of richer. And they may turn against bitcoin and also against the church.
2365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core v.20.2? on: October 15, 2022, 10:00:44 PM
this version is MIA from the GITHUB

It's not missing completely though, there is the tag made for that release in Git. You can find it here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases/tag/v0.20.2
I don't know why it's missing from releases, possibly because it was made after 0.21.2 and it "breaks the ordering" and can make the things confusing for people not paying attention.

However, you already had the binaries, now with this you should have the source code too for 0.20.2.
2366  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum client setup on: October 15, 2022, 03:42:11 PM
This is what you can do before sending a transaction:
* make sure the address tab is visible (View -> Addresses
* select the address you want to send from, Right click -> Spend from

The bottom area will reflect the choice.

PS. If you are not convinced, you may want to run (an) electrum on testnet with free testnet coins and try that out.
2367  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Quick balance check on: October 15, 2022, 01:50:17 PM
Actual database also use optimized data structure (such as btree or trie), although it comes down to whether you can utilize it properly or not.

That's correct. The indexes at least are optimized. But the access to the database itself also comes with a cost.
I agree, it's after all up to dev skills and preferences.
2368  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recovery of lost Bitcoin Asset. Can this be verify on: October 15, 2022, 09:33:31 AM
Few articles

I'm sorry, but I am not sure you have a question or you want us to visit websites.

Is it possible to recover a lost BTC ?

It hugely depends on what means "lost" for each user.
* If the coins were transferred to somebody else's own wallet, bad luck, since confirmed transactions cannot be reversed. The only exception is if the thief makes mistakes and gives up his KYC, but that's also difficult.
* If the user has misplaced his wallet or even removed it, certain tools may help
* if the user has lost access to a centralized service account, he may be able to recover that.

It really depends from case to case. Holding bitcoins is not an easy task, it's a responsibility too many take too easy.
Also, as @Charles-Tim correctly pointed out, many services claiming to recover lost coins are fake / scam.

• Does password crackers app really worked as claimed.

It depends on the password and it depends what you want to crack. Also keep in mind that most of  "password protected bitcoin wallets" people sell on the internet are fake.
And cracking bitcoin addresses is not possible.
One has a huge chance that instead of getting/stealing some coins with those crackers, installing malware on his computer and actually lose passwords, accounts, money.
2369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Give new topics some time, you will learn a lot on: October 15, 2022, 09:16:34 AM
I mean, when a newbie is faced with another user's fresh topic (no reply yet), they can also reply right away without hesitation if they know something.
Maybe my interpretation is wrong, The OP's point I understood on "make any hasty decision from fresh topics on this forum" is about responding to another user's new topic, which OP then says:

I don't claim that my interpretation is perfect, I had some doubts myself in what OP meant. So I've kinda tried to complete where I can, not necessarily argue.

Quote
reading through comments alone will enlighten you.
This means preventing newbies from interacting at all.

Not necessarily. If one has a bit of patience, he may get to more complete topics he can discuss about.
Of course, you do have a point, if somebody waits too much, his answer may already be covered and no longer relevant. Plus, I think that nobody can argue that the posts from the first page are much more visible than the rest.
I guess that there's a subtle "sweet point" for each and every topic and each and every user. For newbies may be a tad delayed, but, as mk4 pointed out very good, it depends on user' knowledge, not "age" (or rank!).

It all comes down to people's personality and also his "urge to rank up". You and me got the days ranking up was easier. Also I see that you and me may have more patience than the average newbie.
However, it's a nice feeling that others think like me Smiley
2370  Economy / Gambling / Re: [How-To] Make a provably fair giveaway ✅ on: October 14, 2022, 08:03:38 PM
I think both (hard and easy) can be rigged. You explained the second one already. The first one can be rigged too: by sharing the client seed with a friend, it's possible for them to calculate the best time to post to get a winning result. Posting at exactly the right time is easy, so they're almost certain they'll win.
It's also easy to fix, by adding a future block hash to the equation.

Woah. You're right! And I should have been thinking on that too.
And indeed, we should stick to what we know it's fair: the hash of a future block.
It's used in the collectible raffles for so long, people should already know how that works.
2371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google partners with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for cloud service on: October 14, 2022, 07:00:51 PM
I declare myself guilty of hoarding satoshis both in bear market and bull market, at this pace I will certainly take my private keys to the grave.  Roll Eyes
I mentioned the state of the market because usually, people tend to jump into cryptocurrencies during bull markets, when the price and developments make it easily to the mainstream media, in the end Google is ran by people, even though, we sometimes forget about it.

I know that most people tend to spend more when they see their investment is on profit - even if only "on paper" since 1BTC = 1BTC - but I hope that you agree that this is bad/wrong and should not matter since this kind of spenders may not be reliable (a business cannot in bull market days only), they should look at those spending no matter what; plus people's mentality should start to change and see Bitcoin is money, not only an investment tool.

And whether you get your private keys to the grave (and make everybody a bit richer) or not, I advise you consider enjoying some of those sats now and then.

Also, Good point with Monero and KYC. They could assemble and very nice list of interest for many people in the goverment.

2372  Economy / Gambling / Re: World Cup 2022: Betting on Futuur Just Got More Exciting! on: October 14, 2022, 06:51:03 PM
Anyways, we are here and waiting for the 2022 world cup

Busy or not, we will make time to follow the world cup. Wink

World Cup Qatar 2022 is almost here!

I understand that you and your business want to be the first mover and get some advantage over the competition, but there's still an entire month (plus some days) until the matches begin.
I would not expect too many people get into the mood and start betting this early. (But maybe I don't know.)
2373  Other / Politics & Society / Re: During the morning missile attack on Ukraine, the Russians hit Samsung Offices on: October 14, 2022, 06:38:10 PM
This is sad and needless. I urge Putin to stop the bombing and return to negotiation tables

Indeed, it's sad, it's bad, it doesn't help anybody.
All that Putin has managed to do until now was to make the world see that Russia is not the power they've been boasting/advertising, and that by far.

Unfortunately I don't think that any negotiation is possible as long as his army is still in the neighbor country and as long as he is claiming territories that belong to the neighbor country.
Even more, he seems to have been completely losing the contact to reality, so any "normal" expectations from him are unfortunately futile. I really hope I'm wrong, but this is how the things look like now.

PS. Doesn't this belong to P&S?
2374  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Quick balance check on: October 14, 2022, 06:23:25 PM
All depends on how it is going to be used. If you want to test a bulk of addresses from time to time - then yes, maybe.
If you want to test 1 address every few (mili)seconds, it will be too slow, dedicated (and properly indexed) database will be better.

If OP goes on this route, he could load up the file into an optimized structure in memory (maybe b-tree?) at the start of the day and then just query his own structure every time. This should be quicker than using an actual database.
2375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Censorship Resistance: PoW and PoS on: October 14, 2022, 06:05:47 PM
The fact Ethereum pretty much got downgraded to security after the merge tells it all. Ethereum is going now, with every day passing by, towards a centralized worthless "crypto".
Bitcoin is still a commodity.

I've always said that altcoins are great, especially as testing environments for various ideas, good or bad.
Ethereum has just shown us that switching to PoS is a very bad idea.
2376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Give new topics some time, you will learn a lot on: October 14, 2022, 05:49:53 PM
Newbies also need space to show themselves.

My rank is Legendary, and I still don't make many topics, I rather answer to questions.
But many prefer to create topics. I know, this also means they have better chances to get merit (and rank up, if it's the case).

While people are different and some want to show their knowledge, I've seen newbies making topics and teaching about things they don't know well enough and making plenty of mistakes, I have to say: one should think it over before making a topic, one should ask around and clear up things he doesn't know before trying to teach about things they also don't know. If this would happen, I would agree 100% that newbies should be even encouraged to create topics.

But as it is now, I agree with OP: give it time, learn first. Instead of trying to teach, try first to learn. That can also mean new topics and valid questions also get merited.
2377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 10 years ago on: October 14, 2022, 11:00:04 AM
interpreting the decimal point wrongly. The reading on the Twitter entry is 12,15$ (12.15$ in the image), where the separator is a decimal point

I would add that I've seen bots interpreting the decimal point better than this.
If the tweet would have been about $12.150 then OP could have had an excuse, but as it is, nope...

Nonetheless, if you’ve been holding since 2012- good on ya  Smiley

I'd guess that if he would be holding since 2012 he would know the price levels from back then and not mistaking at such level of magnitude.
2378  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Theoretical question about multicurrency hardware wallets. on: October 14, 2022, 10:50:01 AM
The hardware wallet contains the seed. OK. The software wallets - for each blockchain don't have any seed info, they only get the extended public keys that are calculated in an irreversible way from the seed for each blockchain.
So the software wallets don't get any private keys and also the public keys differ. And you cannot get anything private from anything public.
The addresses can be obtained from the public key too (not only from the private key) and the coins are on the blockchain (actually the information about inputs, not even the coins themselves) and the HW signs the transactions when they need to do that.
The software wallets will look your addresses' content and when they need a tx get signed, ask the HW do that.

The only problems you can have is with bad forks, if you have money on the same addresses: then the same transaction can be broadcasted on both blockchains and will be valid. But this is not a problem of HW.

So unless you claim for coins without moving away the main coins first, you're safe.
And, as you see, there are no account/user/password like information anywhere in the process. The blockchain doesn't know nor care what are your addresses; it only cares you can sign a transaction to move them away.

Why not watch the highlights of the Grand Prix? You could see the link below.

https://youtu.be/0J7cmh3MLp4

All the issues with it the race it’s really complicated with the tractor and having the poor visibility while driving it’s really hard and all the signages that are flying around. It was really interesting.

I prefer to watch the race as I want to, not get others decide for me what's important. For example I am watching most drivers, not only the top few.
So thank you, for the link, but it's far too short for me. I've already found the full race, just didn't get the time yet to watch it again. But this is what week-ends are for  Wink

Ferrari has a good car designer in Mattia Binotto.  I think he should return and solely play that role and have the team find a better team principal.  A new race strategist would be nice too.  Lol.

Ferrari had a pretty good car this year. Maybe they work more at the reliability and, indeed, find better strategist (or any strategist).
I wish to see better races next year. The real competition between Max and Charles was too short. Maybe next year Mercedes also comes with a better car (possibly McLaren too). So there's a good chance for a more spectacular year. I hope so.

For this year I am still to see where Alpine vs McLaren fight will end. And whether the second place for drivers' championship will be Charles or Checo. Not much...
2380  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex withdraw limit real? on: October 14, 2022, 10:04:09 AM
I am just worried, that when I want to withdraw 2000$, then it is said, "Sorry, we need KCY".

Would appreciate if someone has experience with this. Thank you.

I didn't use Polo for many years, so I cannot really tell from experience, but $2k is a rather small amount and they should not cause troubles, especially as their help page tells:

Level 1 accounts can withdraw up to $10,000 USD per day by default. If you have a Level 1 account and enable 2FA, your withdrawal limits will automatically increase to $50,000 per day.

So in theory you should be OK until $50k per day. However, also in theory they/anybody may ask for KYC even after the first 1$.
Keep in mind that since they're registered in Panama, they can easily work with different amounts than the exchanges obeying EU/US laws.

This should help if you don't get better answers from people who have been withdrawing more lately.
