241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: WT* is going on with alts ?? on: July 20, 2018, 11:54:19 PM
From my calculation, some alts are going down, others are going up, and finally others are staying the same in price...

Welcome to crypto. Alts across the board are down like 8% on average since yesterday, and still up 7% on the week. It's not really out of the ordinary...
242  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Should income tax be abolished? on: July 20, 2018, 11:44:34 PM
About 12% of taxes go towards debt payments.

Think about the mathematics. The debt always increases, every year. There's nothing magic about government debt, if the debt increases every year, that means it's not getting paid back. It's very simple.

What the US (and every other) government does is borrow all money to pay for public services. That's how they do it. Think: the only other way that this equation works is if we say that taxes pay for (say) 88% of public services, and the government than borrows money to pay it's remaining debts. Sure, saying 12% goes to debt repayments would be true if you expressed it that way, but it masks the fact that 12% of tax revenues do not cover all the bond repayments that are due in a given year. Hence why national debts always increase.

It's not about emotions, it's about math. And there is no long debate, it's very very simple

The bolded portion of your logic is false. The debt increases each year because the United States government is continuously taking on more debt in the form of government bonds. It is not unsafe or reckless for the government to do this, as its not like bonds are being defaulted on and the United States is accruing bad credit.

Also, a fun little tidbit: the US public is the majority holder of US Govt debt. So while you claim income tax is immoral or evil or a sin or whatever because its just being used to pay off taxes, even that logic doesn't work out because the same individuals paying taxes are earning interest on their bonds.
243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VBK] [PoP/PoW] VeriBlock: Securing the World's Blockchains Using Bitcoin! on: July 20, 2018, 11:39:11 PM
How is this different from what Komodo is already doing? It looks like dPoW, just with a new name?

I'd like to hear more as to the answers on these two questions as well please

Thanks!

How is this different from what Komodo is already doing? It looks like dPoW, just with a new name?

Same question... the komodo guys have been providing btc level security for their chain and the asset chains they secure for over a year now. Tell me how is your concept revolutionary?

Thanks for your interest in the project!

dPoW is a delegated system where a small group of publicly-known "notarization nodes" are entrusted with stamping data to Bitcoin. In addition, the creation of blocks is effectively nearly completely centralized to these dPoW miners as well, similar to dPoS systems from a censorship and centralization perspective.

Proof-of-Proof is the first consensus protocol to enable inheriting the full Proof-of-Work security of another blockchain which adheres to the original ethos of Bitcoin: decentralization, trustlessness, transparency, and permissionlessness.  Anyone can freely join or leave the PoP mining process, and there is no known group of PoP miners who can collude or be coerced/compromised.

Was recently linked here from Team account on Twitter when I asked essentially this question in a Tweet. First of all phenomenal proactivity by the team!

Second, this answer leads me to a second question: How does Proof of Proof differ from merge mining? Namecoin and some of its forks (Huntercoin, XAYA) have been able to leverage Bitcoin's security via a merge mining approach. At one point, Namecoin was actually the blockchain with the highest hashrate across all crypto (when Bitcoin Cash fork happened, as BTC and BCH miners were both merge mining Namecoin).

Do you use public roads? Get your garbage disposed of? Call 911 in emergency? Go to the library? Send an receive mail?

It's not as if tax money goes into a black hole. Taxes are in place for a reason.

No, that's wrong.

The money paid in taxes doesn't even cover the interest that governments accrue on the national debt. Literally none of the money you pay in taxes pays for a single fragment of gravel in any government road.

We can get into a long debate over the wonderful intracacies of the US finances, but that's not the time or the place... But to say <none> of your taxes goes towards any public good is asinine.

Quick Google breaks down rough estimates of where tax dollars go: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/18098378/ns/business-answer_desk/t/where-do-my-income-tax-dollars-go/

About 12% of taxes go towards debt payments.

Of course. There's also city, county, state taxes that fund various ventures. It's okay to hate the government or disagree with taxation policies, but it's hypocritical to talk about how useless taxation is while benefiting from all the public goods funded by it.

246  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons Why you must buy Trade.io tokens. if you want 500x on: July 15, 2018, 08:26:09 PM
Out of ALL the 100+ exchange coins, only Binance Coin and arguably KuCoin Shares have succeeded. All other constantly bleed and drain after hype or ICO ends. What makes Trade.io different? Hint: it's not
247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: HODL OCN -- Look to TRX on: July 15, 2018, 06:10:46 PM
Buy & hodl OCN..
Why? Upcoming Airdrop--then
And, at .00000097 btc, it's a bargain.
I bought at 144 btc & sold at 270 btc, just a
few months ago. Odyssey & Tron both have
great marketing & their owners are good friends.
To me, the projects come off as being very similar.
And, any coin that could perform like Tron has over
the past 6-8 months, is a gem..
I think there's a difference though in that most people seem to have given up on OCN. I sold around the same price u did, and was very happy. People invested in TRX seemed to have believed in TRX back then, but I don't see the same in the OCN community.

It's okay that current investors or speculators have largely given up. The Tron relationship is huge. I think the next wave of crypto newbies will flock to OCN the same way they did to TRX. I think a market shift to a bill environment that brings in new money will be particularly good for OCN.
248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTG is the garbage coin right? on: July 15, 2018, 06:07:29 PM
I heard that BTG is likely to suffer Bittrex delist, BTG wallet has been suspended for a long time on Bittrex. I am keeping a lot of BTG at $ 50, I do not want to sell it. BTG's DEV team did not contact Bittrex to solve the problem. I am worried about BTG  Huh Huh Huh

A common misconception... You actually have $0 worth of BTG because it's worthless shit.

In all seriousness, if you lack confidence in the dev team it's probably best to sell if you can and move on to other projects.
249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blockain Technology? on: July 15, 2018, 06:05:56 PM
All the code is available for you to view. If you have a background in development (which I imagine if you aspire to be a core developer) you can go on coinmarketcap.com and get the source code to any currency you're interested in.

For a more focused course of learning, you can check out Look Network's free CryptoZombies course on smart contracts.
250  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Was bitcoin created by the NSA? your thoughts on: July 15, 2018, 06:01:30 PM
Here is the first (to my knowledge) document in cryptocurrency, made available in 1996 to an MIT mailing list and created by the NSA: http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/classes/6.805/articles/money/nsamint/nsamint.htm

It's certainly possible contributors to this document played some role (as Satoshi Nakamoto are otherwise) to Bitcoin. It's also possible, maybe likely, the origin of Bitcoin was inspired through this document.

Zechis966, Yes, I was that guy who put 4000 eth (1 m dollars at that time) into MGO.
Now they are worth ~100k $ (i sold 200k mgo by the way)
You may call me an asshole if you wish but I still hodl around half million coins

P.s. I dont regret anything I did in life

Prove it. Sign a message from the associated ETH address that had 1 mil in MGO
252  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Content Rewriting - Is it a good thing or does it hurt the decentralized world? on: July 14, 2018, 07:07:04 PM
Yes, the merit discussion is certainly a very key component to journalism that I didn't think about when hypothesizing if automated journalism "could be" possible. You're right, I don't think I see myself following something like that and I doubt many others would, either.

Good luck with your platform, I will be on the lookout for it Smiley
253  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Edible Currency on: July 13, 2018, 06:57:02 AM
As I see how the world goes in a few decades the main exchange unit will be bottles of clean mineral water, as the water quality goes down.

The only thing I can thing of which is "eatable" and long lasting (sealed) and have a high value in a small volume and weight is the saffron but there are almost no calories so it's out of the list.

I don't see any possible solutions with the food as we know it now. If they /the scientists/ make a new "powder" substance that can contain higher calories in a small volume,it can be a way to go but..

Soon we can print a stake on the regular 3d bioprinter so I guess you can print your own "eatable / grillable" money soon and be your own "bank".

I don't think this could ever be the case since we have already mass produced filters that allow anyone to drink clean water from any source. Water quality is preserved via filters which are already widely accessible.
254  Other / Serious discussion / Re: What happens after death. 9 theories. THIS THREAD MIGHT MAKE YOU MENTALLY ILL. on: July 13, 2018, 06:55:22 AM
Gotta a few more to add on:

First is a quote I read that is basically #1 but conveyed with a positive connotation: "If you ever find yourself worried about leaving the physical world with death, keep in mind, you've done it once before, prior to your birth."

Next is the possibility that modern medicine, at some point in the future, could be good enough to essentially prevent individuals from dying due to "old age". Rather than worrying about death, individuals could keep themselves preoccupied with preserving their own life.

I'm sure they do! All writers that create unique content tailored to a crypto audience provide a benefit for publishers.

In a perfect world, I think the best approach would be for a site to orchestrate some function that calls upon blockchain/digital media oracles to automatically generate stories for breaking news/major announcements (labeled/organized differently from organic articles, ofc) alongside unique content written by the site's writers.

Decentralized journalism is a far cry for now. I'm doing an experiment in kickstarting a community-sourced news website We will see how it goes.

But yes, I do suppose there is a need to reward loyal readers by providing them all the breaking news, even if you don't get to it first. I still stand by the belief, however, that the unique pieces or the ones to rank merit by.

Maybe a worldwide system that connects all stakeholders of the information flow.

Believe it or not, decentralized or at least automated journalism might not be that far off. In fact, many of the developments necessary already exist. For example, a network for automated news could communicate with an oracle geared towards smart contracts, such as Thomson Reuter's BlockOne IQ, to receive automated feeds of financial data and crypto-related news. From there, I'm sure there are a million different scripts for bot-generated content to convey the information. In conjunction with automated trading bots, the generated content could also interpret price actions or charts.

However I'm not sure how effective such a network could be for news that is not related to price movements.

Although it could be argued that Steemit sort of already counts for decentralized journalism.
256  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Content Rewriting - Is it a good thing or does it hurt the decentralized world? on: July 11, 2018, 04:18:14 PM
I disagree with the "need" to regurgitate news. I'm a writer for NullTx (formerly The Merkle) and prioritize original content over all else. I'll cover breaking news if it's very significant (i.e. SEC rules Ethereum not a Security), but more often than not I'm writing about stellar projects that you may not hear about elsewhere. My articles that do the best are unique and talk about applications in the real world, projects within a certain niche, strategies for participation/trading in crypto, etc etc etc. My worst articles are the breaking news. Everything is posted 10x and the odds someone goes to your are slim to none.

I agree original content is the most important aspect, and that is the way you can compete with other publishers. You offer something different, and it's not the 10x news stories that you have seen everywhere.

So the real success for a news website is to actually bring the news to the public. To be the source out of which others are rewriting from. Hopefully getting a few backlinks as well. Smiley

While I understand when you say that there is no need for rewriting content as seen from your perspective, I still believe there is a benefit for your readers, especially for your most loyal audience.

You can also aggregate news, but that is most likely going to hurt your SEO efforts, so rewriting is your way to protect yourself from Google's weird policy on aggregation. Rewriting is seen as original in the eyes of SERP, so people do it.

But does it really bring any value to your actual readers, if you have a cryptocurrency news website?

Considering it is news and that if you want to remain competitive, you need to be the one providing the news first, or at least that's how it seems.

In fact, most of the time people do not spend time reading articles, but rather spend time reading headlines and scrolling, only opening them when they are in fact compelled to do so. Understanding your audience is a key factor in creating content that provides value.

In a way, rewriting is a perfect way to provide your most loyal readers, the ones who wouldn't look to other sources for information, with insight of what is happening on the marketplaces, without hurting your SEO results.

By the way, really a great portfolio of traffic on your website.

It looks pretty good.

258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: MyWish 10-100x Growth? on: July 10, 2018, 12:21:29 AM
Looks like very intriguing and very different concept which allows to create smart contract on multiple platforms .Also including airdrop is good.will take a look at it.

Not certainly in that way. The platform is one, but blockchains are 3: Ethereum, Bitcoin and NEO.

Yes, for the meantime, smart contracts can be created on any of the three blockchains but do not interact between multiple. However, perhaps in the future MyWish could team up with a "messenger"" or cross-blockchain oracle project such as Nebulas to enable, say, a crowdsale contract that enabled BTC and ETH contributions. I do not think this would be an improbable goal sometime down the road. Perhaps for sometime next year.

260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bounty Hunters the cause of token dumping ? on: July 08, 2018, 10:12:34 PM
The studies done by JP Morgan suggest that every dollar bought or sold has a market effect of 32x (iirc) value. So if a bounty made up 5% of the total supply, and half of bounty hunters sold on reception, that would (other variables ignored) drive the price down over 60% If projects are not careful, bounties can crash and it that does happen.
Even bounty hunters will HODL coins and tokens if the project has good future and speculative perspectives!

At least for me personally, that isn't the case.

I look for signature campaigns (don't spend much time on airdrops or Twitter campaigns) with a high payout and relatively low exposure for a project that seems to be poised to raise a decent amount. I never hodl the coins I bounty hunt. The exception would be bounty hunting in place of financially contributing to an ICO I otherwise would, but that's very rare, especially with the move towards private crowdfunding this year. Ofc, I'm just one individual, but I imagine many others (especially those who do it full time) or counting dollars, not coins, and locking in dollar paychecks asap.
