241  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Benefits of gambling? Yes - it exists! on: July 05, 2018, 11:45:32 AM
Today evening, I was spending some free time by surfing various websites. Suddenly a website caught my attention which talks about the benefits of gambling. I was surprised because negative thoughts about gambling is so common, but positive thoughts are rare to find. So I went ahead and read the entire article. The article actually talks about the positive sides of gambling which I believe everyone should know and it made a lot of sense to me!

The article lists 7 points as the benefits of gambling:
1. Gambling Stimulates Local Economies
2. Gambling Is a Form of Entertainment
3. Gambling Can Take Place in a Safe Environment
4. You Could Win
5. Gambling Contributes to Government Budgets
6. Gambling Creates New Forms of Revenue
7. Gambling is a Form of Game Play

The article is actually a tight slap on the popular belief that "gambling is harmful to the society". So I encourage everyone on this forum to read the article and understand it, especially the non-gamblers! Gambling is not a fools-heaven, it's just another business and an opportunity to the gamblers! Hope this article would clear your mind!

Article Link: https://www.benefitsof.org/what-are-the-benefits-of-gambling/

1. Not really sure about that.
2. Isn't this supposed to be the point of gambling? You can't make money from gambling. Some did, but most can't. It's still debatable that gambling is entertaining. A moment of entertainment in exchange of that much money? Not a good deal if you ask me. Watching Netflix is way entertaining.
3. Not really. I guess it's "safe" when you're inside the casino but anywhere but that, it's not really safe. Gambling happens in other places and when someone gets hot-headed, I don't think it's exactly a safe place.
4. See, "could" that means not "always".
5. Honestly this is the only "benefit" of gambling that I can see. After you have lost money, just remember that some of those money will actually be given back to the society. It's the casino's way to have a good reputation and not be kicked out of the country.
6. Yep.
7. Ugh? Is that a benefit at all?
242  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 13-Jun-2018] on: July 05, 2018, 10:07:31 AM
Better to place n.exchange scammy signature campaign with PNYC with a three red asterisks to insist about how crazy to join this campaign with its previous mismanagement...

Actually, yes.
243  Economy / Economics / Re: Banking is Dead… Long live Blockchain Banking! on: July 04, 2018, 08:31:13 AM
Not yet. There were several threads in the forum talking about banks and remittance companies getting their hands into blockchain research. They ain't disappearing anytime soon.

Most reason people use banks are for loans and we still don't have a good way of providing that service (at least with bitcoins, where people still want to remain anonymous).

What I'm imagining is that traditional big banks would coexist with smaller lending agencies that are using blockchain for processing the loans. More options for getting loans, the better.

Well, there's BTCJam right now. I honestly don't understand how it's still standing up until now because people can just submit IDs of other people. It's so easy to get them on the Internet these days since people are so gullible anyway when doing a deal on the Internet. Even people that are only selling something are uploading their IDs on facebook to prove that they are that person. This opens them to an attack. The picture of their ID and their picture holding the ID are the only two things that you need to submit in BTCJam last time I checked. Those can easily be found in buy and sell groups on facebook (at least in my country that's the case because a lot of people are in that business). You can also simply deceive them by pretending that you're interested in buying something and that you need to see their ID to prove that they are actually the person selling the items. I'm not saying that you should do this but I'm saying that it's one way people get attacked on the Internet. We should be aware of things like this so we can avoid doing it ourselves.

I once asked in slack what about the people that didn't pay in BTCJam. They said that they go to jail. On the other hand, no one should go to jail because of debt according to the law (at least my country's law) so I really have no idea how come BTCJam is still running. The site is probably full of people lending money and never paying them since they can't really go to jail for it. And if anything, will BTCJam do so much effort to put someone in jail when they're on the other side of the world and only owe a couple hundred bucks? Of course not.

What you're saying is probably the most viable way in order to have a legit lending service that will not close down because of people not paying up. Plus if it's small scale, they can probably do collateral.
244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No women in Bitcoin you say? on: July 04, 2018, 07:44:12 AM
i think this is just absurd. this is just sexism. a project that is being led by a woman doesn't mean is will be failure, it is already the 21st century man, anyone can do anything regardless of gender.

There will always be a stigma with women. There will always be inequality in gender. There will always be people that are so unfair of someone just because they are of a certain gender or they belong in a certain group and we have nothing to control that. We can simply accept that and think to ourselves that they are wrong, since they are mostly wrong. This is why feminism has become such a thing. It's time for all these stereotypes and stigmas to be over. On the other hand, a lot of people are closed-minded and everyone's opinionated these days.

Women are associated with weakness and men are associated with strength. It's slowly changing, though, because of all the movements that going on and because of the women of the world that has made a mark and proved to the world that there's nothing wrong with, that they can do just as well as men. History says that men were made to rule. On the other hand, we now live in a modern world and a lot of men are lazy and do nothing in life, thus, we are slowly becoming underpowered. I guess the stigma made women do better since they get the feeling that they have to prove the world's perception of them to be wrong.
245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Those who sold bitcoin are in for a big loss on: July 04, 2018, 06:37:26 AM
This what I have been waiting for. I have been fighting the urge to sell my bitcoins hoping that the price will eventually goes up again. Looks like my hard work and being patient will be rewarded soon. That os why it is important to never gave in to temptations and fear of the price will not go back ip again.

The post did not really link the relationship between people selling bitcoins are in for a big loss and the new bitcoin mining hub. First of all, more miners doesn't mean an increase in price. It increases the computing power needed to do a 51 attack, though, which is good but doesn't really increases the price of bitcoin. I think this thread is about people losing their opportunity to sell at a higher price which we will get in the future. And I am one of the believers that 20k$ wasn't the highest price bitcoin will get. The bubble might have popped but the "bubble" has popped several times. For example the $1200 high back then that we never really recovered from until late last year.

Montana to be a Bitcoin Mining Hub

Check it out!

“This is obviously going to be revolutionary.”

This would be the second large mining operation to find Montana in as many years. Back in 2016, Project Spokane, LLC launched its site near Missoula. It’s already one of the largest energy consumers in the region, housing a 20 megawatt facility, employing at least 25 locals.

How is this post related to your subject line? This is all about a Bitcoin mining hub which is about to be built somewhere in Montana. Will this help the price of Bitcoin recover in any way? Those who are selling are either losing or gaining. We do not know certainly whether they are selling higher or cheaper than their buying price. What is certain is that those who sold their Bitcoins will not anymore make a bigger profit out of it.

I think the point is that people who have sold their bitcoins will be losing the opportunity to sell at prices that are as high as a million. Looking back, the pizza guy who bought a pizza for thousands of bitcoins, that can be us, but just in different numbers. Same regret, just different prices. That's why I don't empty my wallet, even with altcoins, because you never really know.

There's no response after 2 days more so i withdraw thanks.

Scroll past next page and you will see that they have posted in the past that they are open and then left the thread for a long time. I wouldn't exactly be surprised if they do that again.
248  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason we pay taxes and why we should on: July 03, 2018, 05:39:17 PM
I am not paying taxes because I don't want. You shouldn't pay taxes if you feel that its incorrect. We are not slaves of our governments, right? Smiley

Until one day the government finds out and you go to jail for it. It will be such a waste of time to be in jail if you only paid a couple of hundred dollars for the tax. And if you say that you can just bail out, that bail money is still going to the government. In the end, you still had to surrender money to the government and you even lost time because of it. Plus, you get a criminal record which is a big deal to some companies. Basically you will find it harder to get accepted in jobs a lot more than before.

True, Tax is the greatest income of a government and a state that is then used to build state infrastructure. and that's all we will enjoy as well. if there are people who do not believe it, and do not want to pay taxes, let them let him live alone, make his own rules and create his own country (that is if he can).

He can't "create" his own country because every part of the world is already divided to different countries. Everything's under a particular government. He can't just buy a land or an island, declare that it's a new country and be his own government.

I think taxes are needed, but millionaires have to pay more, either in fiat or crypto. And that is a good list because taxes are used for defense systems and salaries for military personnel. Without it your country will be taken over by a stronger neighbor if you have useful resources

They do pay more since they consume and earn more money than most.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safety can not come to the bitcoin investor on: July 03, 2018, 03:51:54 PM
Safety can not come to the bitcoin investor. Nothing and absolutely safe. Everything has its own risk, its danger. No one knows what tomorrow will be like. Only know that if we do nothing then there is no danger nor money
riskrisk

Ofcourse it's not, old investors on bitcoin always said only invest money that you can afford to lose because cryptocurrency world is not safe and a lot of hackers aiming to our wallets.
This is the cons of bitcoin that's why it's not legal to many countries

It's not legal in many countries because they are protecting their people from investing in something that might be just a bubble. And just like a bubble, it can pop and disappear into nothing. They are also protecting their economy. Bitcoin users aren't paying income tax. The only tax that we're paying is what we can't avoid, it's the value added tax. For everything that you buy in the supermarket, there's a taxation happening. Tax is a huge part of the country's economy. It's used to improve the services offered by your country and when things like a calamity happens, it's your tax that will be used to restore your place.

A lot of hackers are indeed aiming to find an exploit in the blockchain and be able to get our riches. On the other hand, there's only 51 attack which I doubt someone will get enough computing power these days to do. Assuming that someone does manage to do the 51 attack, it will only result to his loss because people will be selling their bitcoins right away. Basically by the time his attack is complete, the bitcoins he's getting is no longer worth anything enough to get back the capital that he needed to build a computer that has that much of a computing power.
250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook Is Banning Ads for Bitcoin and ICOs on: July 03, 2018, 02:53:42 PM
Which will definitely make bitcoin prices fall in the next few days months. Whatever I want to hold my bitcoin for sure it will be the currency of the future of this world.

You do realize that this has been posted months ago, right? Bitcoin's price didn't go down because of this. I think it's the altcoin economy that has been affected by this. They are posting on facebook, make a facebook campaign in here, and people are going to share their posts in exchange of their self-made coins. That's free advertising right there. Facebook isn't even making money from it because these ICO campaigns don't even have to boost their posts. Maybe ICO campaigns are only banned in promoted facebook ads which facebook can moderate but they aren't necessarily banning accounts that have posted something about ICOs since they can't moderate all of that.

Maybe they are banning advertisements for Bitcoin and Initial Coin Offerings because Facebook is losing its purpose. Its purpose was to connect people but as time goes by, Facebook users create fake accounts for Crypto related stuffs. This maybe one of the reason it is banning advertisements and ICO's. It is reasonable to create a page for what you want people to know and learn about but creating fake accounts is just bad and it does not connect people.

To connect people is facebook's initial objective but they also have bills to pay. Thus, facebook has started offering advertisements which most websites make money from. Honestly social media has become a lot more about business now. The more money you put into it, the more followers you're gaining, the more audience your product is having, and the more buyers you get. That's a win-win for facebook and the campaign who had advertising from them.

EDIT: To everyone, ignore this thread. It's now "facebook once banned ads for bitcoin and ICOs". The ban has been lifted:

251  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 13-Jun-2018] on: July 03, 2018, 01:52:09 PM
Thanks for the update, I was going to update it today since I'm finally back home. BitCloak has ** on their name, may I ask why? The ** sign is also for the payment rate just like how it was used for Coinroll.
I guess it's because the campaign requires at least some x numbers of merit in able to join the campaign.

That has already been discussed before and it was agreed that there will not be any indications for merit requirements. Since good posters are getting merited, it's good to assume that future high-paying campaigns will always have a merit requirement.
252  Economy / Economics / Re: Becoming wealthy and social responsibility on: July 02, 2018, 03:08:00 PM
While I don't have many posts. I got involved in Bitcoin in 2013 and joined this forum in 2014. While I do not consider myself wealthy from Bitcoin yet. I do have an idea of how I would like to direct some of this new found wealth. I think most of the people who got involved early got involved for the right reasons. IE: To change the world and move humanity out of the control of the bankers. I am concerned that the new people coming may only be in to make money. I hope I am wrong, I really want this technology to be a force of good in the world and deliver economic freedom to the masses and the unbanked. My hope is everyone who was early, has some idea in mind that will help others. Maybe help your family, or a charity that you think isn't wasting money, or building a community swimming pool etc. If you have a lot of money think big and how you can change the world for the better. This is our chance!

I honestly think that the idea of bitcoin will inevitably be known by the whole world especially by how much information scatters around the Internet. Everyone wants to earn an extra income, everyone's looking forward to earning money at home. Basically, everyone likes the idea of earning money through the Internet and bitcoin allows you to do that. I only told a couple of people about bitcoin but now it seems like everyone around me knows it. It's really funny but annoying at the same time. People are talking about the same subject over and over because it's new to most people.

There's no need to build a community swimming pool (like you have mentioned) if your goal is to raise awareness about bitcoin. In order order to raise awareness, you simply have to talk about it or even simply post a link to an article that talks about bitcoin on facebook. I wouldn't worry much about the mass adoption because a lot of people already knows about bitcoin. If they don't wanna use it, then it's simply not for them. In the future, people will crave even faster long-distance transactions. People will be doing their transactions mostly on the Internet because Internet goods will be a thing and that's when cryptocurrency will completely take over.

Spreading awareness about bitcoin should be looked at as a way to give back to the community where those wealth came from. On the other hand, it doesn't really matter if you do spread about it or not so don't be pressured. There seems to be bitcoin users who are so enthusiastic about it that they can't stop talking about it so leave the job to them.
253  Economy / Economics / Re: Is legalized marijuana good for the economy?? US Citizens might talk here.. on: July 02, 2018, 02:16:40 PM
In some counties that there are good possibilities that happened when they legalized the marijuana but not all the countries in the whole world. Why? Because its community some of them they abuse using marijuana. They using it a drugs and some them are minors.

Marijuana is illegal in my country, how come minors are still able to abuse it? It is a matter of choice of the person himself/herself if they are going to abuse marijuana be it illegal or legal. I think the only thing that changes when it becomes legal is the economy of it. It's actually a lot cheaper while it's illegal because once you've made that legal, people will be selling it everywhere and people will all be buying it. The supply wouldn't last and at some point, stores will be left nothing but high quality weed which is a lot more expensive than the usual ones. Funny how people be thinking that they can abuse drugs once it has become legal. The truth tho, it will be a lot more expensive.

Nonetheless, this will increase the overall collected tax. It's good for the economy of a country. People have another thing to consume and get addicted to just like beers, liquors, and cigarettes. Add a sin tax to that then bam! in a couple of years, the economy is booming. FYI, though, there wouldn't be as much casualties if people do get hooked on weed because it doesn't make you do bad things. It helps you relax.
254  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason we pay taxes and why we should on: July 02, 2018, 01:12:50 PM
The reason why we pay taxes because it is part of the law. As law abiding citizen we must pay the taxes imposed by the government or else we are going to be tac evaders.

True. Some people wants to talk about being a good citizen and never wanting to avoid to pay taxes but it's just their way to feel good of themselves. We're all humans, we're all greedy, and if we were given the chance to not ever pay the taxes, even OP would surely grab that opportunity. Does it feel good when you pay the tax which is almost half of your salary? I bet it does for people like OP, thinking that they are helping. It's funny because those services, good roads, and other things that our country need is what the taxes are SUPPOSED to do but the corrupt government changes that. It has slowed the whole process of making countries become better. We're all paying taxes but do you see any improvement in your surrounding?

People would actually love to pay taxes, to be totally honest, but only if they do see the changes paying taxes can actually make. But the scenario today, it's like you pay taxes and those money just vanishes into thin air so everyone just don't wanna pay.

256  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we must study Economics at University? on: June 28, 2018, 05:47:27 PM
Most probably in this section are users that are interested mostly in Economics, so I want to know why Economics attracts you?

I wasn't really "attracted" to learning economics back in college but only because I never really tried to be attracted to it. It's a minor subject but our professor was pretty much so into it that I told myself I'm going to give it a try.

One of the things that I have realized after studying economics and this is probably something that might attact other people to lear economics is that: we are trapped in a loop. What do I mean by this? What I mean is that regular workers will never have the things they want and deserve no matter how long they work. We are in a system that doesn't allow you to have much savings enough to rise above your station. What you need in order to rise from poverty is to not only work but realize that working alone is not enough and you can know this by learning Economics.
257  Economy / Economics / Re: What i believe will come on: June 28, 2018, 05:19:53 PM
You've got a nice vision about the future. This might be possible in the future but we can say that another future will at sight. Im just not in favor in the extinction of fiat. This physical money will always be part of the world. Even we are in a new world of technology and more innovations are happening just to cope this changes, still, fiat will represents the culture and identity of one place. But, im not against to your own vision.

In a world where everyone is well-read/well-informed and are all logical, we will be using bitcoin. But we don't live in such world, do we? People are always not going to embrace new things. Some people are always going to be all about traditional ways and will always stick to those even when a much better method is put in front of them.

Even in the far future, paper money will be used in some places simply because the people living there aren't really computer literate. They are lagging in terms of technology. I'm not against his vision as well but I just don't think it will happen in our lifetime and we're still not sure if it will happen at all. Digital divide has to be solved first before this can happen.
258  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy in your country on: June 28, 2018, 04:41:14 PM
The economy in our country is lacking when it comes to manpower because some skilled worker go to abroad due to the low salary.

Same as my country. Not that we're lacking manpower but rather we're lacking of great workers and hence the economy has become rather poor. The payrate here is not that good and those people that have enough skill, money, and guts to be on the other side of the globe work abroad. They are encouragin these skilled workers to stay in our country and be patriotic. On the other hand, being patriotic doesn't really feed your children, right? So people still choose to be practical and work abroad. There are tons of songs dedicated to kids never having to see their parents in Christmas and other important life events because they do work abroad and it's all sad. But a parent has to do what they have to do especially when you want a good life for your kids and you can't have that when you live in a country with a bad economy.
259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does positive thinking affect your edge in gambling on: June 28, 2018, 03:54:31 PM
Positive thinking is nothing but a state of mind. It can never change the cards that you're holding, it can never make your dice rolls better. Your odds will all be the same. It is completely irrelevant to your edge in gambling. Gambling is still gambling and having a positive mind while gambling will just give you the idea that you will, at some point, win the jackpot. I guess it's good but only in the essence that you might actually enjoy gambling even when you are losing (which in the end you are, you can win today but you will ultimately lose it unless you stop gambling for the rest of yor life right after winning) but since you are thinking that you are lucky, it will just make you bet more and bet bigger which is not really a good thing.
260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Life with a Gambler - Solution! on: June 27, 2018, 04:06:18 PM
Well honestly i don't think that gambling addiction is that hard to get over, for me i think that people get that into gambling because they have nothing else to do, nothing else to keep them busy from spending money on it, if they have friends and family who encourage them to do activities and keep them busy from doing so than i am sure they won't find the time to gamble and they will lose their desire to do it, at least that is what i did for my friend when he started falling to it.

Easy for you to say because you don't have gambling addiction. I think your friend is not in that rabbit hole where gambling addicts fall into every single time. In other words, your friend is not really addicted to gambling that much OR you're friend is secretly still gambling after a good day of spending time with his friends. I think gambling addiction, like any other addiction, is a form of escape. An escape from real world problems that actually do matter. Addiction is a symptom of a much larger problem and these people have addiction because they want to avoid facing those problems as much as they can because they are either too afraid to face it or simply don't have the capacity to face it. They say that all problems can be solved that's why God gave it to us. Yes, it has a logical solution but not everyone has the capacity to take action.
