2442  Other / Beginners & Help / How bitcoin has employed more African youths. on: January 20, 2022, 12:18:59 AM
Bitcoin has employed more youths than the government of some African countries. African countries are most times referred to as third world countries because of their under-development and under-civilization caused mainly by bad leadership. Africans have high level of poverty rate and unemployment. These problems made an average African youth to be inferior to his foreign mates. If the youth try to involve in international trade, they will pay high fees.  If they decide to save their money in their country’s weak currency, it will keep depreciating. An average African youth was financially vulnerable until bitcion brought liberty.
I will discuss how African youths earn a living from bitcoin.

FREELANCING
Bitcoin has given Africans with skills the opportunity to earn by creating bitcoin related contents, bitcoin digital marketing, SEO and more.

BITCOIN MINING
Many African youths did not discover or involve in bitcoin mining at the early stage that it was more profitable. The youths are now joining mining pools with whatever hash power they have to make a living out of it.

BITCOIN INVESTMENT
The buy and hodl has enriched many Africans, especially these few years that bitcoin made some successive decent bull run.

BITCOIN TRADING
This is the most popular way Africans make money from bitcoin. Trading has empowered many African youths. But the risky nature of it like trading altcoins, future trades made trading very scary to newbies and they lose money. You need skills to win here.

BITCOIN PAYMENT GATEWAY
Now that many companies are accepting bitcion as payment for online services, Africans that can create payment gateways for companies or help people purchase things on amazon, are meeting ends from bitcoin.

EXCHANGES
The problem of buying bitcoin with fiat or selling bitcion to get fiat is solved in Africa by Africans and they make money from the exchange fees.

BITCOIN LENDING
Lending bitcion to people with some percentage interest is another opportunity that Africans earn from. Traders borrow from lenders, trade with it and make profit and it becomes a win-win situation for the lenders and traders.

BITCOINTALK SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN
Bitcointalk being a bitcoin forum created by Satoshi has given a few Africans the opportunity to earn bitcoin by promoting some companies in the forum.

Bitcoin has brought liberty to Africa.

2444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How liberal was Satoshi Nakamoto? on: January 19, 2022, 05:11:06 PM
I'd like to think that one of the reasons why Satoshi went away was so that people stop focusing on what he thinks about bitcoin. You see, bitcoin is a decentralized currency that doesn't have one centralized authority deciding what opinion matters and what doesn't. The whole network does.
This is very true. His influence was greater and that was why they needed his permission to effect the changes. His disappearance has done so good for bitcoin.
2445  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria (Naija) on: January 17, 2022, 08:55:30 PM
This one na true as me don observe how people deh take overreact for small matter here. Na so small mistakes deh take destroy person hardwork. 2446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How liberal was Satoshi Nakamoto? on: January 17, 2022, 08:28:47 PM
what does this technical question have to do with satoshi's political stance (liberal or otherwise)?
Oxford dictionary says Liberal is "the willingness to understand and respect other people's opinions, especially when it differs from yours".
That I why I used the word. Because it seems Satoshi was not willing to understand others opinions in the thread above. That is where I drew my title from.

Thank you for the technical exposition. Thank you mk4 and ETFbitcoin. I was thinking that since sig wit was not a hard fork, it is not regarded as a major update on the block side.
2447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congress Hearing On Bitcoin’s Energy Use on: January 17, 2022, 04:46:32 PM
Quote
The hearing is entitled, "Cleaning Up Cryptocurrency: The Energy Impacts of Blockchains."
The title of the hearing does not show it is an investigation or fact finding mission. "Cleaning Up Cryptocurrency" shows that cryptocurrency has being judged before the judgement. Anyways, let us keep the hope alive.
Who or which counsels are representing bitcoin? Who will intercede for bitcoin?
2448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BlockChain and Bitcoin on: January 17, 2022, 11:57:30 AM
coin at stake is of no loss. stakers pay no bills(to others) for making a successful block. if they are not a block solver, they also lose nothing(just dont gain anything either)
he just has to hold coin to show he is rich enough to be more important than others. he doesnt need to hand it to other people, doesnt need to spend it(lose it) just to try making a block. he just needs to have coin to have a chance of making a block. no loss

Contrary to what I believed.
Knowledge speaks.
Let the guru have the final say!
2449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How liberal was Satoshi Nakamoto? on: January 17, 2022, 10:23:11 AM
I did not make this post to undermine satoshi. I cannot do that because I respect him so much. He created what I call financial revolution. He is the reason I am here today.
I asked this question because of my curiosity on why bitcoin block size was made 1mb. On wanting to know why Satoshi kept it at 1mb, I started a research and I saw a post in this forum dated 3rd October, 2010 by Jeff with username Jgarzik. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1347.msg15121#msg15121 (I recommend you read it, so that you may justify my question)
Jgarzik wrote a code suggesting that the bitcoin block size should be increase to match paypal’s average transaction rate.
Few minutes later Theymos observed that applying the patch will make Jeff incompatible with other bitcoin clients.
At this time Satoshi came in in support of Theymos, see his statement.
Quote from: Satoshi
+1 theymos.  Don't use this patch, it'll make you incompatible with the network, to your own detriment.

We can phase in a change later if we get closer to needing it
From Satoshi’s reply you can see that he saw that there will be need to increasing the block size in the future. But he believed that it was too early for a hard fork or maybe when we get to the bridge we will cross it or some other reasons.
Jeff didn’t give up easily, he gave more reasons for the proposed increase and was actually supported by majority of the user under that thread.
What made me to question how liberal Satoshi was is, after reading this reply by caveden he didn’t change his decision.
Quote
I'm very uncomfortable with this block size limit rule. This is a "protocol-rule" (not a "client-rule"), what makes it almost impossible to change once you have enough different softwares running the protocol. Take SMTP as an example... it's unchangeable.

I think we should schedule a large increase in the block size limit right now while the protocol rules are easier to change. Maybe even schedule an infinite series of increases, as we can't really predict how many transactions there will be 50 years from now.
My question:
  • What did you think made Satoshi keep the block at 1mb and did not consider to change it?
  • In his statement “if we get closer to needing it, we will phase it”. Will there be a time for such change again, or it has been done already?
2450  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: January 15, 2022, 01:26:15 PM

My first attempt to use a VPN I had an ugly experience with NordVPN
It was not Nord's fault but mine. I was very amateur in cybersecurity issues.
I downloaded the NordVPN from a shared link on social media instead of their website or playstore.
They altered the domain name with hyphen(-). I didn't know, I completed the registration. Immediately some popups begin to display in my phone. I knew I was being spyed. I searched for the file source to uninstall but I couldn't find it.
I was swift to reset my phone even when my backup was not upto date. I lost data but I was safe from attack.
After the loss, I re-examined the url and notice it has a security encryption https: but it was still malicious.
But I am using the NordVPN now but not always.
I wish someone would create a topic on how to beat the cyber criminals, they are upgrading everyday.

You messed up the hyperlink. This is what it should look like:
Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!
Thank you for all the corrections.

If the idea of this thread was started by more experienced members like Pmalek, Loycev, Rikafip, fillippone, tranthidung, ratimov, DdmrDdmr or other members who like forum stats then I think there would be a lot of people who would be much more interested in participating. But unfortunately, the OP is not very experienced with how to do surveys or quizz so the idea doesn't seem very interesting.
If anyone of the people you mentioned or any other person can take up the idea and develop it, I will appreciate and be happy.
They can make it look like this BITCOIN TEST
I do not have the tools or capacity to do it now.
2452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BlockChain and Bitcoin on: January 15, 2022, 11:43:39 AM
I believe we don't need to stress ourselves very much to differiate between blockchain and bitcoin. They work hand in hand and heart to heart. My short relationship between is that Blockchain is the foundation upon which bitcoin is laid, and other cryptocurrencies are laid, and the foundation is still open for other companies or organisation to come and lay.

..
blockchains that have a true cost of creating the secure block hash(PoW) are more secure then blockchains that can make blockhashes for free(PoS). because if there is no cost at risk. anyone can try to game the system. if there is cost at risk then people are more willing to stay in the rules to get paid for efforts, rather then waste money to break the rules
PoS still has a cost at risk. The coin miner will donate some coins like colleteral before mining. If he will try to game the system he has coins at stake.
2453  Other / Meta / Re: Cybersecurity subforum on: January 15, 2022, 11:16:23 AM
In other words, if there are not many topics in the main menu, and there are many discussions about them, a subforum/board dedicated to them will not be created.

Let's take the Lightning Network as an actual example, although there are many topics and many discussions about them, no dedicated subforum/board has been created for them. Therefore, general terms such as "cybersecurity" will be impossible to create a dedicated board for it.
You are very correct about this. When the hype of NFT was high months ago and the demand was coming in but the board was not created. That was when I knew that the admins are not interested in creating boards or childboards that will not last or people will run out of discussion within a short time.

The Lightening network was a surprise to me when I search the forum but I didn't see any board for it. But in Development Board is saw _Rath always discussing it. I believe one of the reason why it has not gotten a childboard is that I always see a high user countering everything about Lightening network. His name is franky1. Not that he does not have nice points, he has many good points and I always read them. If childboard is created for LN, there can be home for arguments only and the purpose of the board will not be achieve.
2454  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BitcoinTalkShow] Best of January suggestions on: January 14, 2022, 10:46:09 PM
I have seen two remarkable threads that I want to nominate. But one happened December and the other one happened January. Today is 14 of January and many posts have not been made already. I think this came early. Unless it will be open throughout this month.

I watch bitcointalkshow two times on YouTube and it was talking about the things happening in this forum. I will like to see the video that will talk about what is happening in the country of the people watching the video. It will make the people to be more interested in bitcointalk if they know their country people are in this forum.
I saw this topic by Ratimov about how every board including all the local boards participated in bitcointalk last year. It will be good idea to make a show to say the country that participated most. Posting Dynamics for 2021 (Main Boards + Locals)

Another one is a topic started by fillippone about El Salvador bitcoin bond.
Everything you wanted to know about ES Volcano Bond and were afraid to ask!
This topic was made late December but I saw it this year.
In this period that countries are rejecting bitcoin I think the country that made bitcoin their legal tender need to be in our YouTube news. Is also related to First Bitcoin City.

Have you heard of this site https://www.fyrebox.com/. You can create free quizz for whatever your purpose is including testing the knowledge of forum users like your idea.

I think @halab did it a while ago, he started the quizz but now it's over. See the thread. If you want to do this then make sure you have one correct answer for every question you ask, and give a time limit for answering them so there is no chance of searching for the correct answer around this forum.
I have seen it and I have seen the site. But I don't have answer to the questions. That is my problem now.

What I learnt is that no one is supposed to post here in a haste. We have time to cross check our grammar hundred times before we post. For long article grammarly is our friend.
