2461  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: antminer S5 - Chain #2 status : -'s on: June 21, 2015, 02:41:57 PM
I had the exact same problem but with my S1's, one blade wouldn't mine and if it did it would for 1 second and then become unrecognizable through the GUI & LED would turn off, I went through everything I even read about heaps of people having the exact same problem and Bitmain not doing anything about it.

Well I have done DIY reflows before on Xbox 360's and PS3's so it wasn't anything far from different, I thought what have I got to lose and fluxed up all the chips & capacitors on one side, slowly and from a safe distance I heated up the chips/board with a heatgun & then let it cool for 1 hour, as soon as I fired it up it worked and has been working ever since.

I personally think it is cold solder joints or bridged connections under the chips that just need to be melted and re-set.

What can it hurt ?. your right nothing Smiley . it is all  ready messed up. I'm gonna buy a toaster oven or small oven and give it a shot the board does work from time to time, the red lite comes on for may be 10 seconds and i think it's actually hashing for that time then shuts down, then one board only works, in some cases, i have to reboot it when that happens, it locks the miner or keep hashing and i can't access the UI, til i do a reboot or i have to disconnect the bad board if it is bad, it may not work at all, till I disconnect that board. it see the board like the OP posted but won't  hash like it should it is using power etc  .

but if that works it save me 150 $ that's what  bitmain wants with the old board, 165 without it, that price is with shipping included in the US, i save 150 $ even better.

and spend 30 bucks for the oven, i won't use the oven we cook food in.

BTw i know I said two but the replacement S5 was a fully working one I bought the half working one used it worked one day the seller sent me a replacement S5, said keep the old one.
2462  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The cost of electricity in the world on: June 20, 2015, 12:46:57 PM
$0.31 here in Germany, and they have started using loads more coal because they stopped usuing nuclear and are trying to use renewables, but it isn't working too efficiently yet..

I thought prices in the Europe would be the lowest due to all the renewable energy resources.

Most cost of any energetic are taxes. So it dont real mater out of what is electricity produced, but how country collect taxes. Taxing oil and electricity is easier way.

i have  some what cheap Electricity if it wasn't for the high taxes and Fee BG and E gets away with i d sty below 200  a month or close running 6 S5 24/7 as it is now I'm more like 350 to 400 due to the taxes and other fees they manage to slip in there.

isn't better for you guy with cheap electricity to offer hosting, to other users? there are some users that can't mine because of their electricity and they don't trust cloud, it should be a win win situation

he also pay you everything directly in bitcoin and you don't need to pay taxes in the end if you keep your coins

I gave that some thought but I m not willing to taking anyone hardware and keep it running etc or even let some one run there proxy's or pools thu my S5s for long periods of time. I would have to molde my house even more or even move it out of my house then its even more cost . but i did give it a lot of thought a few month back . if you mean me  by this : isn't better for you guy with cheap electricity to offer hosting, to other users? there are some users that can't mine because of their electricity and they don't trust cloud, it should be a win win situation

True it would be a win win but the hassle of starting im not willing to deal with, i can be trusted would be very careful with or how I did it but to many negatives i see i don't want that can and will happen that  discourage me from doing it .

Ok, say I ended up getting a CSM750, not the CX750.
It's an improved semi-modular, Gold-rated version of the CX750 - http://www.corsair.com/en/cs-series-modular-cs750m-750-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-psu

I thought it would have 4 separate PCIe cables but there are in fact only 2 cables, with 2 PCIe plugs on both.... Angry

Should I 100% get a refund and buy something else, or will the above be ok?
I'm at the stage now where I just want to get it powered and running.

I can tell you for sure this one has SIX separate PCIe two built in with plugs attacked if you don't mind that and 4 separate PCIe you can plugs four more PCI plugs into. it comes with all the plugs you need.

but it cost a ton now i see i have two i got a deal on  back 7 month ago for 90 each brand new. Smiley .

wow  399 $ for a new one and 105 $ for used  .There are nice I can say that, but 399 $ for a new one .I guess i was just lucky.

I'm locked in for 3 years at $0.06 kw/hr .. in Chicago.

How did you swing that? Tell me more. Smiley

fix rates  a lot of the states allow it and hes was lucky enough to catch a sell going on .I'm Locked at .0855 for the next three years with no limits on how i use it as long i pay the bill. but i know there is a limit there all ways is, i just haven't hit any yet .

Folks, soon I will possess an S5. I am now looking to buy a PSU.

At some point in the future, it may be anywhere from 2-10 months, I will probably get another miner such as S7 etc.

Couple of questions -
1) Should I get a PSU that will support future miners? Ie. get something like a 1300-1500W PSU?
2) If yes, surely this will be overkill for a single S5 and will end up costing me more in electricity bills?
3) Should I instead get something like a 750W PSU and then later in the year buy another PSU if/when I need one?

Appreciate any thoughts.

1. it wont be i would but i also have tons of PSU .
2. it will only use what the miner uses not what its rating at or does
3. if you do get a 750 make sure it is at least a gold standard with 4 stand alone PCIE plugs try not to share a plug you will need four PCIE PLUGS PLUGGED IN to it to run it right .

A few i use, I got deals when i bought them i was there at the right time and place .

I know they cost more then a server PSU but I don't care much for the wiring part and broke out boards, wires can tend to come lose etc . i have one server PSU I use form time to time but I'm more the plug and play type guy.

Tip: check out any ware house deals you see on Amazon they claim there is no warr but i have had a few things replaced by the brand under warr buying that way not because it went up, i tested it to see or wanted to make sure it doesn't etc .

Sense I started using this pool back in Sept or Oct of last year i was impressed then but didn't go hard core here till Jan of this year and so far this year I have mined close to 5.95684118 BTC according to my stats but some of that was from last year maybe a half a coin. I all most gave up mining about the time the S5 came out now i can't i have pretty much made all i Put into my S5s back, i can honestly say  , a friend asked me that the other day, it got me thinking and  i can say with all honestly i have at this pool a lone and I all most gave up on this site a week or so a ago then it magically started working right or seemed to.

I think i would be lost without it being here now that I use this pool as my main mining BTC pool.

I think i finally figure out just how the payout works or it seems this way. in simple terms the -  Estimated Change: we all ways get at the beginning of the next new block and the + a mount we get at the end of said block for what we did in that block . that's the simple way i see it and it seems to work that way . and the negative or - a mount is because of bad pool luck .

I love this pool no fees, how the pay system works, is awesome.

I was doing an intensive search for knc titan, even looked on craigslist and then I saw ad for their site. I saw the price for the TITAN at ~2700 and thought that was reasonable but how do these guys have any, let alone a 10 pack. So immediately I thought better check on bitcointalk to get the low down.
Of course knowing that you guys never heard of them makes me want to stay far away....

look on eBay believe or not from time to time you can get a really good price for a new titan that  some one wants to dump or has no use for or finally got there order shipped to them but got out the mining game or stopped Script mining .
2472  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is cryptocoinmachines.com real ? on: June 17, 2015, 06:13:50 PM

2473  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What kind of miners do you have now on: June 17, 2015, 05:59:54 PM
5 S5
1 S3

that i use

four worthless Script miners i use from time to time for fun.

one of my scripts is a G-blade black the rest are Zeus Miners.

but i all most always have a total of 6 miners running til i can afford more S5 or find deals on used ones like i did the other day. and may be buy  a titan and A1 or A2 script miner.

O yea forgot a

S1 that sets most of the time i want to upgrade not to a S3,I'm hoping one or two things going on the forums lets me upgrade it to a more useful thing.

have been thinking of buying one of these BTCGarden V2.

0.0855 per KWh without taxes and fees added. I avg  around 350 $ total power bill  a month for the house if I run them 24/7 if I don't a little lower.

and my S5 have paid for them self i can't complain by that i mean i reinvest what they make to make more Smiley..!!!!
2474  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is My Electrian Overcharging on: June 17, 2015, 05:45:10 PM
Hi I am looking to have 38 total miners (already in my possession) and a total of 24Kw of power to my shed to run this. My brother will have the same number of miners but in his shed 100ft from my shed
Here is the work the Electrian I s doing:
Upgrading the power at my house from 100amp service to 200 amp service
Running wire 150ft to my shed (trenched)
Installing a new panel
Providing me with 45 separate outlets to plug the miners into
Running the wire an additional 100ft (trenched) to my brothers shed
Installing a new panel there
Providing him with 45 outlets

Total for all this work is $4500

Seems reasonable to me considering the price of copper and the fact he's trenching etc... Thoughts? Too much? Good price? Thanks.

or why not do most of the work your self just have him come in and wire it all for you ?. again i don't know were you live etc it kind of also depends were you live. laws and stuff .
2475  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is My Electrian Overcharging on: June 17, 2015, 05:24:04 PM
you live were !! ? . i had a sub panel installed for 10 miners on my 200 amp service for nothing i just had to  get the parts cost me may be 250 $ total in parts. i had  the Sub panel  plus two 240 one @ 30 amp and one @ 40 amp and it is up to code in my state .

As some one else said make sure it's OK with the state you live in and above all your homeowner insurance. mine was done by a licensed electrician, I know and his friend, no permit but according to what i found out i don't need it for the insurance or by state law but I  do plan to have the main box replaced soon it is old then i do ,That's why for now the Sub panel but the electrician told me its safe but i should get it replaced one day because it is all most 20 years old.
2476  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is cryptocoinmachines.com real ? on: June 17, 2015, 05:00:20 PM
HM I wonder to, those prices look about right all but one of two they look like they were copied off Zeus Miner site for one or two of the Z miners .

why I would question it .

took a relook id question it the

SPECIAL SALE 100 Pack SET Gridseed Dual Miner Scrypt & SHA mode for 100 pack 12 K you can go to the EBay get that lot cheaper used or new 12 K for that kind of worthless miner, is to much .

The Avalon 4.1 price looks like the one that was about the Xmas time price, so does the S5, there no way they can sell brand new S5's for the Xmass price not have bitmain all over them etc .

What's going on?Huh? Bitmain raised prices on the S5 to $360+shipping?HuhHuhHuh
same price its been for weeks..

Pretty sure it went from $340.

It was 340  but the price of bitconis went  up not the price as much as it's  the same a mount of bitcoins it was at 340 they even said the price will go or down thu for the down part i have yet to see that even  happen when they do drop . Sorry bitmain you all are great but i have to call you on that one i kept watching the price it never went down even if the coins dropped to 220 a coin that i saw.either way i would and will keep buying from you all I am very great full you all are there for us .

2478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need Opinions - Best SHA256 ASIC for mining in my office - Quiet yet profitable on: June 16, 2015, 02:54:09 PM
I just started using my only S3 i have left this way . but today i went to BTC Guild to check my balances and it is shutting down on the 30 of this month and it looks like for good this time he won't sell it .

I need something fairly quiet, yet profitable to mine w/ power costs of $.09 - $.1/kwh. My office is a suite in a building that is kept very cool (as we have dentists w/ their required machinery, etc.), so heat isn't too much of an issue. My electric is a write-off, so I want a way to have a steady income of BTC whilst maintaining decent profitability (doesn't have to be the latest and greatest).

Maybe Scrypt ASICs are a possibility, but my focus at this moment is SHA256.

Thanks for your help/opinions!

Antminer S5 is probably the way to go. If you can buy a used one at around $350 and have cheap electricity, it's not too bad. You'll need to underclock it and put in a quieter fan though.

it will be too noisy .

buy this fan:

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Cooler-Computer-Cooling-FHP-141/dp/B00A460TK6/ref=sr_1_1?

buy a used s-3

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antminer-S3-/301661789143?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463c719bd7

this psu  but some one may find better for you.
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Series-Watt-CX600/dp/B0092ML0OC/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

My cost for you is under 200 and you will most likely lose money. due to your cost of power.

At the op no gear for sale will profit for your kwatt cost. (I am pretty sure not certain this is true.)

Since you are going to lose money in most cases buy a used antminer s-3  for 85 usd buy a silverstone 141 mm fan for 16 bucks

get a small quiet psu .  and then run the s-3 in balance.

I would then run the s-3 in balance I will show  you what I mean.
see this post

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.msg11617555#msg11617555

a screen shot that shows how the s-3 splits hash to 3 spots 140gh each 2 earn a little money 1 could win a block.

this will run quiet use under 400 watts and cost under 200 usd .  most likely you will lose money

Ok thanks any progress

Sorry got kind of got side track .

I will try in the next Few days to post it .I mostly bitcoin mine now script mining for me is dead kind of i kept all my old script miner and use them from time to time for fun  but trying now to get at least one titan and one or two A2s.

here is the DIP switch lay out i use:

I got this from another post a while back, i just copied it to a note pad file

Board 1: 0 0 0 0
Board 2: 0 0 0 1

in your case for the hurricane B1 would be the board not plugged into the USB cable . B2 should be set to 0 0 0 1 . on that board is a small MIN USB  mini pin this cable should fit it . http://www.ebay.com/itm/121592721552?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT to give you a better idea of what to look for till I get time to post Screens of that plug on a hurricane hash board .
