Hitler was Catholic when he was younger. Hitler pushed for the elimination of Christianity. EDIT: Hitler wrote Mein Kampf when he was younger and by the end of the war, his views changed dramatically, I also didnt make the claim that it was purely based on Atheism. You are jumping the gun on argument.

Stalin's Soviet state was very much committed to the destruction of religion and even went about removing anything related to related to religion: churches, mosques, and temples. The schools also pushed the idea of Atheism and even promoted it as what society should follow. 12-20 million Christians killed as a result.

It simply doesn't matter... you can't blame war on Atheism...

It's not like you can even pretend that Christians are not solely responsible for the Dark Ages, Crusades, Inquisition, witch hunts, etc...

You clearly have not read rule #1 of using the internet:

There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress

I hate to break this to you, but Atheists do have a belief.... They believe there is no god and there is no almost atheist.

That is simply not true...

If you tell me that the Christian God exists, and I do not believe you... that does not mean I believe no gods exist

Atheism is not a belief that no gods exist... Atheism is the lack of belief in a god

You are thinking about Agnosticism - Gnosis is greek for knowledge and A+gnosis would be "No Knowledge" or simply put, "I do not know." This person is awaiting further evidence to allow them to properly decide to believe in god or even disbelieve. x or not x.

Atheism - Believes there is no god -- Regardless of proof or no proof.

Trust me, I know exactly what I am talking about (why do Christians always think they know more about Atheism than an Atheist?)

Christians try to twist the definition of every word, this is nothing new... feel free to speak with BADecker about how little I give a fuck about what your personal definition of a word is...

You are correct about Agnosticism, Gnosis = knowledge, etc...  You can be an Agnostic Atheist, or an Agnostic Christian... the terms are not mutually exclusive (and any honest Christian is Agnostic... any Christian who claims to know for certain that God exists is either a liar or a fool)

Atheism falls into multiple categories...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism

The most basic of which is a lack of belief in a deity... also referred to as negative Atheism, weak Atheism, or soft Atheism...

You are conflating soft/weak/negative Atheism with hard/strong/positive Atheism... but both categories are Atheists, I assure you
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_and_positive_atheism

The Nazi agenda, was not fueled by religion, it was quite the opposite and would see the decimation of millions; over ten million to be exact.

Stalin's Soviet Russia is another that had a great impact who would see millions also killed under his rule. This again, was practically Atheist. Karl Marx would write that religion was the opiate for the masses.

False, and irrelevant... you can't blame Hitler on Atheism, though there is a case to be made that Hitler was a Christian...

Have you read Mein Kampf?  Hitler often refers to his Christian religious beliefs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_views_of_Adolf_Hitler

Quote from:  Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
The political leader should not estimate the worth of a religion by taking some of its shortcomings into account, but he should ask himself whether there be any practical substitute in a view which is demonstrably better. Until such a substitute be available, only fools and criminals would think of abolishing existing religion.
Quote from: Adolf Hitler
Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord

But you have to be born in the US to become the President if I'm not mistaken by some crazy words that I missed by some chance.
Isn't it a Natural born US citizen?

Yes, but that has never been properly defined, so it's mostly meaningless...

It doesn't state you need to be born on US soil, or anything like that:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural-born-citizen_clause
Yeah, I was reading about it somewhere. Would this be a more Supreme Court decision or--?

Naw, it's just a bluff... it would never happen

The thing is... just by saying it... Trump damages Cruz reputation, stealing a few of his votes... he doesn't have to actually go through with it... One sentence out of his mouth gains him hundreds of thousands of votes... he's a smart(ish) man
2485  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Vs Cruz on: February 18, 2016, 01:33:04 AM
Does it really matter who's going to be president? Nothing's gonna really change.

That depends on who wins... If Billary Clinton or Marco Roboto wins, you are correct

If Bernie or Trump or possibly Cruz wins... expect changes

But the thing is Cruz WAS actually born in Canada.
So, it's a weird subject.

That doesn't mean much... an American can be born anywhere...

My parents met in the Army... my brother was born in Germany... he's an American because when he was born, my parents were given the choice of making him an American citizen, or a German citizen... since they were both Americans, they chose to make him an American too...

Now, Cruz is a bit different if both his parents actually voted in Canada, making them Canadians, not Americans... in that situation, Cruz should have never had the option of an American citizenship... but, nobody is going to take it from him now, it's too late... he's an American...

2488  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Vs Cruz on: February 18, 2016, 01:06:47 AM
Both Trump and Cruz seem extreme.  And is it true that Cruz was born in Canada?  Is he even eligible to be president?  I mean, all the birthers (including Trump) were screaming that Obama was born in Kenya so he couldn't be eligible to be president, so that means they would also think Cruz is not eligible since it is an actual fact that he was born in Canada, right?

That is a tough question... Don't quote me on this... but...

I have heard that both(?) his parents were American citizens... but... shortly before Cruz was born, they voted in the Canadian election...

Now, America does not allow dual citizenship... so in order for them to vote in Canada, they would have needed to relinquish their American citizenship... so Cruz would have been born Canadian, not American...

Now... back in reality... that doesn't matter...  Cruz was issued an American birth certificate, and nobody is going to try taking citizenship away from a Senator...

Trump has no intention of fighting that battle... he only mentions it because it takes 5 seconds to say, and takes 5% of Cruz's votes

Obama also has an American birth certificate, but that didn't stop the birthers from pursuing the issue.  Cruz probably is eligible, but if he gains in the poles, I think he is going to get questioned about it more.

To be fair... Obama was elected president long before he produced the birth certificate

Also, Trump was the birther pushing the issue with Obama, and with Cruz... that's just his shtick

I'm not familiar enough with his policies to be able to say which ones I like and dislike. Sad

Well that was honest and unexpected...

The policies that I have heard Bernie state (beyond his 40-year track record of voting for civil rights, gay rights, etc)...

Bernie wants to get rid of private for-profit insurance companies... who are basically just a middleman making your health insurance more expensive than it needs to be... this has been estimated to save the average American around $5,000 per year

Bernie wants to fix tax loopholes that let billionaires get away with paying a 5% tax rate on capital gains, while the middle-class is stuck with 35% federal + state tax + fica + medicare + social security...

Bernie also wants to reinstate Glass–Steagall... which should have never been repealed, and is single-handedly responsible for the real-estate/stock-market crash/bailout a few years ago
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Legislation (Cliff notes: prevents banks from gambling with your money)
Picture banks losing $50,000,000,000 playing SatoshiDice... then asking the US government for another $50,000,000,000 to continue gambling (nobody fixed the loophole allowing them to keep gambling)

Bernie wants to make college free for all citizens who wish to attend... Like many European countries have already done

Bernie is the man with the plan

Sorry Moloch. Ignored you after your last bullshit post so I can't read what you're saying.

1) I don't believe you

2) Go to Google and start typing, "why are black women" and tell me what the auto complete suggests
2492  Other / Politics & Society / Re: White People Are Having The Worst Black History Month Ever on: February 18, 2016, 12:04:52 AM
True, I thought it was a bit rude for the whole thing at the Superbowl halftime to occur. Was a huge slap in the face to white people...

Good.  Roll Eyes They fucking needed it. Who the fuck are you, white boy? Get out of this thread.
It's not like I'm saying it was a bad thing for it to Occur at the Superbowl, it's fine as they're allowed to. But I feel it could have been presented in a better way.
If you understand what I mean?

She is just giving you an example of the difference between, black lives matter, and all lives matter...

The former is exclusionary hypocrisy, while the latter encourages anyone who dislikes discrimination to join them

Black Lives Matter is in response to the massacre of black people by white cops.  Roll Eyes Anything other than supporting it is racist bullshit. There's no reason someone would have to justify saying Black Lives Matter, unless you're a racist who doesn't think black lives matter and need to interrupt people when they're talking about it, further derailing any discussion of racism.

Why are black women so hateful?

I'll admit I agree with some parts of what Bernie says, such as "If you don't want to take care of the Veterans, dont send them to war" I fully get that and it makes sense.

But I support the free market and not a lot of Gov intervention, but I'm not one to say that Communism and Socialism are the same AS THEY ARE NOT.

Could you elaborate on exactly which of Bernie's policies that you disagree with?
2494  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Vs Cruz on: February 17, 2016, 11:24:52 PM
Cruz is an angry, friendless, corrupt snake.
Trump could be as dangerous as Hitler, but (sometimes) much more funny.
So due to him being funny, he should be elected?

No.
At least we get to laugh a bit before the whole mess gets worse.
I just feel Cruz is more evil, based on the fact-- well mostly Cruz's face.
He just has that evil vibe to me.

Speaking of his face... I saw this video the other day
Science explains why you want to punch Ted Cruz in the face
2495  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Vs Cruz on: February 17, 2016, 11:15:50 PM
I couldn't agree with you at all on the Democratic candidates at all, Clinton is-- nope.
Bernie is a Socialist, which I don't agree with at all, LIKE NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.

Is that based on an informed opinion of Bernie's policies, or is it because America indoctrinated you into believing that socialist is an evil word?

I didn't click on the links, so this may have been answered, but doesn't the Bible say that we shouldn't eat shellfish?

Land animals:
Quote from: Leviticus 11:1-8
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.
4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
7 And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

Note: Hares are rabbits, which do not chew their cud like a cow or camel... God got this animal 100% wrong (also note, a coney is a hare/rabbit... God is redundant with his mistakes)

Sea animals:
Quote from: Leviticus 11:9-12
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Birds:
Quote from: Leviticus 11:13-23
13 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
14 And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;
15 Every raven after his kind;
16 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,
17 And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,
18 And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle,
19 And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.
23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you.

Note: this is only the tip of the iceberg... you also cannot eat meat and dairy in the same meal, etc... it's kinda spread throughout different books of the bible... God wasn't very organized when he wrote all those books...
The Talmudic rabbis believed that the biblical text only forbade eating a mixture of milk and meat, but because the biblical regulation is triplicated they imposed three distinct regulations to represent it:

not cooking meat and milk together (regardless of whether the result was eaten)
not eating milk and meat together (regardless of whether it was cooked together)
not benefiting from the mixture in any other way
Why did God need to repeat this law 3 times?  Wouldn't a perfect God write it perfectly the first time?

I guess I must be an abomination.

Not according to that, unless you're an Israelite who lives underwater and you eat your own flesh.

You could almost change this topic to, "Crazy shit that Christians think the bible says"
2497  Other / Politics & Society / Re: a more personal opinion on: February 17, 2016, 10:53:50 PM
Most people consider Buddhism to be a philosophy rather than a religion...

Buddhism does not require belief in any specific god, nor does it condone belief in a diety

Buddhism has no sacred texts requiring you to murder heathens/unbelievers...

I'd say it's much less dangerous than religions, and has some interesting texts which can be interpreted on various levels...

Unlike religion, which condemns critical thinking in lieu of faith... Buddhism encourages thinking and reasoning

Mostly harmless, but probably does not have the answers you are looking for

I agree. Mostly problems start arising when people want to get simple answers to very difficult questions. Since no one, even modern scientists, can provide a 100% accurate answers we should not condemn those who think differently. Every opinion has a right to be expressed.

I disagree...

When Muslims want to marry a 12 year old girl, I will speak against it...

When Christians want exemption from criminal charges of negligent homicide because they chose to pray for their child with cancer rather than pay for the surgery(more than 30 States have this law)... I will speak against it

Basically, I am against all the crazy shit people justify under the guise of religion... Strapping a bomb to your chest? Flying a plane into a building?

I wish religion had never been invented
2498  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Hillary Clinton Trustworthy? on: February 17, 2016, 10:49:16 PM
Hillary Clinton Should Just Say Yes to a $15 Minimum Wage

On the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton has eloquently defined workers’ rights as human rights. She could assert both more forcefully by championing a stronger federal minimum wage of $15 an hour.

So far, Mrs. Clinton has proposed lifting the federal hourly minimum to $12, from its current level of $7.25 an hour. Bernie Sanders is pushing for $15. Under both proposals, the increase would be phased in over five years, which means 2022 at the earliest, assuming that legislation to raise the minimum becomes law in 2017, the first year of the next president’s term.

Reasonable people can disagree about the ideal level for the minimum wage. There is no doubt, however, that the longer it takes to get to a new minimum, the higher it should be, and that by any political or practical calculation, 2022 is a long way off. This alone argues for Mr. Sanders’s more generous proposal.

Mrs. Clinton has argued that $15 might be too high for employers in low-wage states, causing them to lay off workers or make fewer hires. There is no proof for or against that position. There is solid empirical evidence showing that moderate increases in the minimum wage do not harm employment. But there is no similarly rigorous research on the effects of large increases, mainly because there haven’t been very many, either in the United States or internationally.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/17/opinion/hillary-clinton-should-just-say-yes-to-a-15-minimum-wage.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=opinion-c-col-left-region&region=opinion-c-col-left-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-left-region&_r=0

If the minimum wage had kept up with inflation... The number you are looking for is $20+

The cost of living has outpaced minimum wage by more than double

You are simply twisting the words to try and make it look bad. A fools/losers strategy to take down the opponent.

Huh,  I don't twist anything.  It is what it is.  Read the book.

I'd not even know how to twist these words.

They are so twisted I could not do a better job.

I second that... no need to twist the words of the bible since they were written twisted...

As for myself, I was indoctrinated as a child...

I went to church every Wednesday, and twice on Sunday (morning and evening) from the time I was born until I was 16

I considered myself a Christian until I was 12 and started reading the book for myself (oddly enough, I was forced to read it daily when I started going to a Christian school in the 7-9th grade)

After reading the bible, I could no longer believe it.  There were too many false statements, contradictions, poor morals, etc...

[bible summary]
I mean, it started out alright... there was a nice story about creation, then a bunch of animals on a boat (where God murders 99.9999999% of the planet)...

I felt bad for the Israelites because they were slaves... but when Moses asked Pharaoh to, "let my people go"... Pharaoh was ready to do exactly that, except God intervened... "God hardened Pharaoh's heart", so he could plague him 10 times... eventually murdering the first born son of every Egyptian citizen, slave, and even the animals!

Then those poor Israelites got lost in the desert for 40 years... another sad situation... Until God provides "the land of milk and honey", where there were a bunch of farmers who had cows and beehives... Those poor farmers didn't know anything about war, so it was a massacre... the Israelites murdered them to the man

A few chapters later there is a single sentence where God commands the Israelites to destroy 60 cities!  Genocide of 60 cities commanded by God... what the fuck is this?!?
[/bible summary]

This left me in a strange situation... it took me 4 years to convince my parents they didn't need to drag me to church any longer because I didn't believe that stuff...

I also didn't know what to call myself, so if anyone asked, I answered that I was a Christian for several more years... Even when I joined the military, I put down that I was of Christian religion... 6 years after I stopped believing it... religion really gets a good grip when indoctrinated as a child

This is why I feel sad for someone like BADecker who was clearly indoctrinated as well... I see indoctrination as equivalent to your parents infecting you with a disease, like HIV, only a mental disorder... Intentionality!
