2481  Economy / Economics / Re: California sues Amazon, alleging its policies cause higher prices everywhere on: September 20, 2022, 07:38:13 AM
Is this a case of good competition, or are other motives at play?

Amazon is so big it can pretty much act like a monopoly. If you want to sell at Amazon, you may have to lower the price or even sell at a loss. Many think that their products being sold at Amazon is a commercial by itself.
So it's a complicated issue and I would not be surprised that everybody who sells at a loss at Amazon, will try to recover that loss somewhere else.
Maybe this is what "California" is implying? I don't know. It will be a very interesting case, however.

Merit spree ongoing now. Again. Quite early after the previous one (which is nice and interesting).
2483  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin mixer for mixing Bitcoin from Casino? on: September 19, 2022, 03:05:02 PM
Recently I’ve been notified by my local wallets that I might receiving tokens from gamblingand they give me warning to avoid doing it or else they will freeze my account. I really don’t know how they knew that my Bitcoin came from the casino but I’m doing a play safe and use Bitcoin mixer to all my funds coming from casino.

I’m looking for the most cheap fee and safe at the same time. I don’t have all info on the available mixer right now in Bitcoin but it will be helpful if someone can provide a list.

I’m currently using unijoin mixer butit has a random transaction fee which sometimes hurts when I randomly pick the highest fee which is around 3% since I mixed most of the time due to the nature of my gambling activities.

1. The first possible "culprit" would be your signature campaign. There's a very high chance the signature campaign money comes from the casino you're advertising.
2. One good way to get rid of warnings from "local wallets" is to actually install and use a proper wallet instead of using custodial web services where you have an account and they call it wallet. (Also I advise you use hardware wallet if there's a meaningful amount of money there).
3. You should read very good the ToS of the service you use (i.e. "local wallet") because there's a good chance that if they don't like casino money they may like even less the mixed coins.
4. I know that it can look biased because of my signature, but ChipMixer is mixing for free as long as you pay attention to the help page and send the correct amount of coins. Of course, this means also that you will have to download and use Tor browser. Also make sure you go to the correct address (see chipmixorfly address in my signature or look for CM's announcement topic).

Of course, it's up to you which mixer you use, if any, but I recommend stand alone wallet (maybe with hardware wallet) as the main step.
2484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger nano x: Nobody mentioned the 4.25% transaction fee on: September 19, 2022, 01:23:54 PM
I assume you mean Ledger Live. I only bought the hardware Ledger wallet for security reasons.
In that regard I am very curious about the effect of coming regulations in the EU/USA on exchanges.

Just use Ledger Live solely for updating the software. For wallet purposes, personally I'd say using Ledger+Electrum/Wasabi is far better than using Ledger Live. Ledger Live is simply too slow and clunky for me; with too much unnecessary bloat.

Since OP is using Ledger also for altcoins (see his second post in here // HBAR), I think that this advice is not OK/enough for him.
There may be a proper HBAR wallet around there that works with Ledger, but I don't know. Electrum/Wasabi will probably not.
2485  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can a new address be generated without having received funds in Ledger Nano? on: September 19, 2022, 01:02:50 PM
What would happen if I used several addresses from Ledger using Electrum wallet, but then I had to install Ledger Live on a different device, and if same thing was done vice versa?
I am not sure if all those addresses would all be clearly shown in Ledger Live or in Electrum, or I would have to manually add specific derivation paths to show them.

I think that it will work fine. The problems may start if one start using "accounts" in Ledger (which are different derivation path). Plus I expect that if one starts using his Ledger with Electrum, he may not go back to LL.

With electrum, you don't have to make a request and wait for it to expire like you said. You can just head to the addresses tab, and you should be able to see your addresses there.

This is imho the cleanest solution, but I will add that of course, if one just picks addresses from Electrum's Addresses tab, it would be nice to label them so he knowns which is for what, so he can avoid confusion.
2486  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PNNV.com - Major update - need your review! on: September 19, 2022, 10:15:38 AM

It's nice to see new features (and this is an interesting advertising for your page), still, imho some points are missing (or not great for me)
* my home currency (RON) is not in the list
* I'm not very fond of CMC/Coingecko as price source (is it that they don't update as often as preev used to?)

It was good idea for adding price in browser tab, but I am not so much interested in bunch of other altcoins and this could be just a waste of resources in my opinion, but other people may like this more than me.
Maybe you could disable other units used for bitcoin (m, k, etc.) that can be seed even when adding any other altcoins to search, and improve search because I am getting bunch of altcoins whrn I type term BTC after I selected some altcoin

Heh, same has happened to me and I concluded that one has to type the coin name, not its ticker in order to get somewhat more useful result.
2487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account ownership and way forward on: September 19, 2022, 09:59:16 AM
I'm sorry to say I don't understand what your point clearly and this reply got me more confused. As in where else can they sell the account if not here? I mean the forum.

In the same way some try to sell here now and then reddit or Twitter accounts, for example, they can try to sell bitcointalk accounts on other bitcoin-related social media platforms (other forums, discord, telegram channels, whatever). Probably some even do that (i.e. right now) to try to go under the radar, I don't know. But the (bitcoin) world is bigger than just bitcointalk (although most "places" may not deserve attention, this is still a reality).
2488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account ownership and way forward on: September 19, 2022, 09:33:02 AM
Yeah, this is not gonna happen. Since buying/selling accounts is usually for shady reasons, nobody would say that publicly, since red tag will follow sooner or later.
Exactly my point! Account selling should be discouraged in all means hence, I came up with that thought knowing it won't be possible to publicly publish such announcements.

You seem to have missed what I wrote above that, so I'll quote it again:

As it was said multiple times in the past, if the forum would disallow this or would impose some more difficult rules, people will just sell their accounts somewhere else.

So declaring it "against the rules" would do nothing good/useful.
On the other hand, the risk of getting red tag on those accounts (i.e. the accounts that changed hands) is quite a discouragement, isn't it?
2489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account ownership and way forward on: September 19, 2022, 09:18:49 AM
By the way, I don't see any reason why account selling or transfer of account should be allowed in the first place. It's not that difficult to create a forum account so why should account selling be allowed? But Since the forum already permits account selling, who am I to challenge it?

As it was said multiple times in the past, if the forum would disallow this or would impose some more difficult rules, people will just sell their accounts somewhere else.

- Formal announcement should be made prior to change of account details such as email and password with a signed message

- All deals should be completed with prove if possible

- Accounts from hero to legendary rank should not be allowed to change email in order not to be able to sell such accounts.

Yeah, this is not gonna happen. Since buying/selling accounts is usually for shady reasons, nobody would say that publicly, since red tag will follow sooner or later.

- Accounts not active for a year should be temporarily disabled and can only be activated after passing some verification that seems suitable by the administrators.

This may not be such a bad idea. Would certainly make hacks less worthy/fruitful.
But this means that everybody will need to have a bitcoin address stacked, since it's the only clear verification the forum has. And this is not a requirement now.
2490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto be British?? on: September 19, 2022, 08:29:55 AM
Another reason to believe that he is a Londoner is

While there are valid clues in this direction, other clues go to something way different.
I've read few days ago an analysis made by Jameson Lopp on Satoshi's mining (an interesting read, btw) and one of the conclusions was:

My conclusion is that Satoshi maintained a sleep schedule consistent with someone staying in the Pacific time zone.

So... a Londoner living in LA area or in British Columbia?  Cheesy
2491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto wallets have a long way to go on: September 19, 2022, 08:22:47 AM
The biggest issue we have in the crypto space is crypto wallets, there are a few things that haven't been fixed yet or haven't been made easy yet.

1. I believe that one of the main reasons why wallets get hacked is connecting wallet to a platform for way too long, some users even forget to disconnect the connection after.

Solution

Why haven't we seen crypto wallets that disconnect from platforms on their own after minutes of inactivity, it's easier for users to forget to disconnect after successful trans.

2. Not every crypto users are tech savvy and most don't even know how to keep their keys safe till date, writing recovery seed down or carving on a stainless steel or wood is still risky , either a hot wallet or hardware wallet keeps your keys is a necessity, I believe that we still need some work on here, making safeguarding keys easy still have a long way.

While I agree that (at least some) wallets could become more newbie friendly, your problem is not about the wallets imho, it's about how stupid the users are.
[1]
Connecting a wallet holding significant amounts of coins (as value) to a platform to gain a couple more cents is usually a bad idea.
Using the same wallet for holding life changing amounts and for daily operations is usually a bad idea.
I will add that many keep thousands of dollars worth on exchanges and web wallets instead of investing 100$ in their security and buy a hardware wallet.

[2]
Not all users are tech savvy indeed, but just imagine - for analogy - that there are some who give to unknown people all their credit card information, including the CVV code and so on, then they are surprised people steal their money (and please don't say 3DSecure is not avoided by some websites).
Now this same thing happens with crypto wallets, at a larger scale. Is the wallets' fault or is it users greed and stupidity?

So yes, you may have some points, but pointing a finger to the wallets is incorrect / not fair. Some may want to improve in a way the users understand better what they do, but they cannot do miracles. Also keep in mind that the best bitcoin wallets are free / open source projects, hence the developers work for free there.
2492  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is Casino Critique on: September 19, 2022, 08:09:37 AM
Where is the fucking referee to show cards?🤣

Although trolling is not allowed, trolls are treated rather mildly (in many cases the referee pretends all is OK, knowing the spectators are too nice and won't assault the field).
Even more, such "reports", whether they're for real or not, are allowed here.

Imho one big problem is that we tend to take too serious everything and everybody, whether it's new account made for a specific purpose, to trolls, to various (useless) dudes on Twitter or the news.

Royse777 has been caught, no matter how hard his buddies try to hide him.

Unless you have (and show) any proof I have no idea why some tend to take you serious.
2493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: September 19, 2022, 07:43:47 AM
Porpoising problem is back, really?

I thought that all teams have solved this problem already and we wouldn't see it anymore.

Wasn't Ferrari basically the first ones solving the porpoising problem?
But, from my understanding, their fix is not OK according to the (new) rules, and since Mercedes has filled a complaint, now the cars have special sensors to verify exactly the porpoising, and the data goes to FIA.
So Ferrari has probably changed the floor of their cars and now they're more prone to porpoising than months ago.
(Again, this is how I've understood the situation and, in case I am wrong, I am happy to be corrected if somebody has more/better info).
2494  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto agents on the increase on: September 18, 2022, 05:28:07 PM
What will you like to add  to this?

* Be more smart and less greedy
        * Don't jump into a project/coin only based on the hype from advertisers (especially twitter)
        * Avoid any "too good to be true" investment
        * Avoid send me 1$ and I'll send back 2$ scams, no matter how reputable is the account calling for that
* Protect your coins (keep your coins on your wallet, use hardware wallet where possible, never give out wallet's seed, keep backup seed offline)
2495  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2014 Original Kialara Bitcoin - whats it worth today? on: September 17, 2022, 08:41:16 PM
Im considering selling my 2014 Kialara I had for years but havent got a clue how much I can sell it for. This piece is quite unique one of a kind as you know so its hard for me to put a price tag on it. I know what I paid in 2014 but now after 8 years its worth much more I guess. What you guys think any sugestions ?

My advice is to:
1. Make some pictures of that coin, upload them onto imgur.com and add the link(s) here.
2. Move this topic into Collectibles ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0 ) [the bottom-left link should work], those guys know this and some may not care of anything else from this forum.
2496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin as an electronic currency, can it be use for bet gambling on: September 17, 2022, 08:36:03 PM
As an electronic currency, I will like to know if bitcoin can be use in sport betting, apart from using your local currency, can I found my sport bet account using bitcoin.

As others already said, there are plenty of casinos accepting bitcoin.

I will add something others may have been missing: I won't want to scare you, but, I would like to advise you use your own wallet instead of using various centralized and custodial solutions (Exchanges, Web Wallets), since some (few, but still) may have in their ToS that they don't approve gambling, hence if you use those to keep your money and fund your casino account from there you may end up with the web wallet or exchange account locked (and also the funds you may have had in there).
2497  Economy / Economics / Re: Companies Are Hacking Their Way Around the Chip Shortage on: September 17, 2022, 08:20:36 PM
We don't want this, but the manufacturers of cars and other equipment want it to make a lot of money, so they release new models every year and put more chips in their products. this will lead humanity to a new digital concentration camp, as is happening in China.

Many people love to see their car can estimate how many miles their car can go with the current amount of gasoline, many love to see their car announce them when they don't keep the line, many would prefer more features like this.
Some know that this kind of complication makes the car easier to break and harder to fix, especially when some chips work erratically or not at all.
And some are just afraid or nostalgic about "how good were the cars <insert number here> years ago".

I am not sure what you say about China and the chips. I know that in there facial recognition is not just allowed, but used at an increasing scale, which can be a problem. In EU the laws seem to go in a better direction though.
But "digital concentration camp"? I hope you're not expecting Skynet get alive any day now...
2498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenNode is testing Bitcoin payments with the Central Bank of Bahrain on: September 17, 2022, 08:08:19 PM
Companies tend to care mostly about their income. If bitcoin adoption helps their income, then they will help in that. But don't expect miracles. (Still, the news is good.)
I also expect OpenNode develop some pretty much centralized solution "to save fees" (and be able to work mostly with IOUs).
It's good that they can handle both LN and on-chain tx, but I fear that the centralized solution is what they're eyeing. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree with what you said about companies that they care only about them, the fact most of us also care about ourselves, so I don't mean it negatively towards the companies.
The companies have to pay the employees for various services, and it can be a pain if they don't profit from bitcoin so they'll speak negatively about bitcoin or wouldn't approve of it.

Clearly. My point is that we should not expect them to implement the best setup/solution out of kindness, instead be aware that they may implement a solution we may not like, but brings them more profit.
2499  Economy / Economics / Re: King Charles pays no inheritance tax on the Queen's $750M private estate on: September 16, 2022, 12:03:06 PM
As far as the royal family goes, big surprise there that there's a law making them exempt from death taxes.  If you have the power to make laws (or basically control the people who do), there's rarely a case where some kind of laws aren't passed out of self interest.  It's a shitty thing, too, because I think they should have to pay that tax if it's basically what everyone else in the UK is required to do.

The thing is not necessarily about the royal family and exempts. Imho 40% is a huge amount for any sane person, hence I am sure that especially the wealthy people do their "optimizations" as early as they can to avoid surprises.
Gold and art are the first things that come into my mind. Bitcoin is also nicely suitable for the job.

The law is something that has to keep up with the times. Imho it should be changed/improved.

What is an appropriate subpoena?

So I want the summons.  the appropriate.

You use strange words, possibly cause by some translation software you're using.
This makes it difficult for the people understand your questions, hence the answers are guesses.
You also didn't say whether your problem is solved or not. If it's not, maybe you try to ask clearer (more words at the very least) or maybe you also ask in the subforum for your local language...
