i can confirm the temp problems without internet.
just today my internet went down for about 30 minutes..

they started beeping as usual when it detects no internet and all the fans turned off. i pretty much ignored it and went on doing what i was doing.
after a few minutes i noticed the s5 beep turned into a solid tone.. ive never heard that before.

i went to check it and when i touched the heat sink and it was so hot i couldn't put my finger on it. the fans were not spinning very fast and really hot air was coming out the back. i instantly shut it down.

the internet is back on again, it seems to be working ok.. today was the final day of my 90 day warranty.. i hope i dont have any problems because of this.

this is a problem and a potential fire hazard.. had i not been home who knows what would have happened.

i went and put the fan on a molex adapter.. its not ideal since its now at full speed.. but if the internet shuts off again the fan wont stop.

email bitmain START TALKING TO THEM NOW

Bitmain is already working on this issue, so wait for new S5 firmware.

nice I hope it's fixed, when ever I leave home, i turn off all my S5 .

for the over heat reason .

looks like a lot of network hash is coming online.. seems difficulty is about to go to the moon Sad

Next difficulty retarget occurs at block 360863.0 (eta 2.8 days): 46504486469.3 / -2.3% [est.]

going down I did read the blog about KNC and there 16 mm chip it's not suppose to increase hash, if I read it right but save more on Power then anything and be one of the most efficient farms around.
2483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [DISCONTINUED] cryp.today Mining revenue stats Scrypt Scrypt-N X11 X13 on: June 12, 2015, 01:14:06 AM
Here is some good news (especially for miaviator) - I'm not going to bump this thread anymore.

Due to Scrypt/GPU mining being quite unprofitable for the last few months I haven't been able to expand or update the website and the thread the way I would like to. Now I'm facing either having to replace a few defective ASICs and GPUs and continue mining for the sole purpose of collecting stats or dump the hardware on eBay and focus on something that makes more sense, like mining good old Bitcoin. Not a difficult decision really.

The original intent of the thread was to evaluate the reliability/profitability/trustworthiness/etc of mining pools (and later rental services), so let me leave a few observations to that effect.

Scrypt mining is obviously not as profitable as it used to be and is largely synonymous with Litecoin mining these days. Some multipools have closed down (Waffle and TMB to name a couple) and there is a couple of solid options remaining that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend: Nicehash/Westhash (NH) and Clevermining (CM). NH can sometimes be finicky due to it being a rental site disguised as a pool, so try them both and see which one works best for your situation.

GPU mining seems to be mostly focused around X11 and perhaps one or two other algorithms that come and go. Again NH would be my primary recommendation here.

And if you're not willing to put in a little more work than just point your rig at a pool - check out MiningRigRentals (MRR). There is a bit of extra effort needed to set up your rigs, update pricing, and keep an eye on downtime, but it often pays a lot better. My favorite set up is MRR with NH/CM as backup pools. And not just for Scrypt or GPU mining but for SHA256 as well.

I will keep the rental pricing page - including MRR and NH data - updated on http://cryp.today for as long as I can. The process is mostly automatic and does not involve my mining hardware, so it should stay running at least until any major changes happen to the APIs on the rental sites.

The revenue charts will stop being updated sometime between now and the end of June. Old data will still be available here: http://cryp.today/old-chart-page

And last but not least - thank you to all who supported this effort.

I agree until  i can afford a few A2s  or a even a titan or 2 i don't bro with script mining  any more other then because i like to from time to time .but mining bitcoins is still very profitable and  profitability is a point of view it seems,   i have reached ROI with my Three S5 i bought back in Jan of this year which did allow me to buy a used S5 which actually to me was blessing in discuss one blade stopped working after one day the seller sent me another S5 told me to keep the one blade working S5 which i will fix over time.

i think in total i have mined close to 7 bit coins or more with them i have re invested the coins i made and bought more hash etc i think you know the drill. ofc i have nothing to show for it because i spent what i didn't  invest, which now i am starting to save, for more miners etc .

P.S. Due to more pressing issues (medical), I will may sporadically have less time to work on things. Please open GitHub issues for problems so I don't forget about them, and thanks for your patience.

I hope don't seem off base or insensitive by asking and hope your OK .

Any idea as to when we might see something for S5 with BFG, I do hope your ok and can do more for us.

Hope that happens for S5's .

I mean that . Smiley ...
2485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: question about cgminer and temp control? on: June 11, 2015, 10:08:44 PM
how can i make cgminer hold my graphics card at a steady temperature?  I've adjusted the temp limit, overheat temp, and cutoff temp in my conf file but they dont seem to be making any difference.  my current holding temp is set at 70, overheat temp is 80, cutoff temp is 85.  but, my cgminer is regularly going way over 70, sometimes 75-80, and it doesnt detect an overheat or try to throttle the card down.  my graphics card is a msi r9 280x twin frozr 3gb gaming edition.

Thanks.

to stat with you want this or higher version http://cryptomining-blog.com/2586-download-sgminer-4-2-1-scrypt-gpu-miner-for-windows/

CGminer  does not support Scripting mining beyond 3.1 or so i believe

I would post this question here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0  I am  very sure you will get better results there and nicer comments then you might get in the SHA256 mining forums Smiley .
2486  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 10, 2015, 08:56:09 PM
I don't have a torn-down S3 to verify, but the S5 board and S1 board have the same holes. Actually the S5 has one fewer hole (top center) but it's present on the heatsink. As far as I can tell, the heatsinks from an S1 and the S5 I'm looking at are identical.

i have a few s1's 3's and 5's. i can tear em down tonight and look at them.

edit: actually they are the same because there was an s1 to s3 upgrade kit.

They are i  upgraded three S1 and still have one i use . and according to this these S3 water blocks will work with the S5 http://shop.syscooling.com/goods.php?id=47

TY man i just used fire fox and Google Translator on that page reading it now . Smiley .

from what I understand after the translator it is the  dead  power controller: LN1134 4VK 1.8V  they give a  link to that chip i may try it. I'm sure Ill mess up the board more there is no warr  but it if it fixes it then yea .
2489  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: antminer S5 - Chain #2 status : -'s on: June 06, 2015, 11:38:17 PM
well if either you figure it out and get it running lets us know i have two S5 the same way I'm planing to peace in to one and go from there .I'm also asking bitmian if i can buy two boards it might cost but will be cheaper then buying a brand new S5. they are both out of warr so no RMA for them .
2490  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying S5 from Bitmain Batch on: June 06, 2015, 11:29:27 PM
One or two that others have tested that work

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A460TK6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

http://www.amazon.com/Bearing-Cooling-NF-P14r-redux-1500-PWM/dp/B00KF7QO2G

i would say for really quiet you need two fans doing at least  CFM 131 each at stack speeds in push pull and if heat won't mater then get two really quiet fans and the S5 .

2491  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying S5 from Bitmain Batch on: June 06, 2015, 10:56:47 PM
Hi

I'm new to the world of bit mining hardware, and want a relatively decent miner for hobby.

Looking at geting ths Antminer S3 or S5.

If I buy from the Bitmain "Antminer S5 Batch 5", do I like wait until they meet a sell count threshold, or do they ship next business day?
https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020150303095018716e2uWKIA70662

Im skeptical about the S5 because I live in a room share in california where its warm in the summers, and apparently the S5 is NOISY. Is there a fan i can buy at frys to make this thing a whole lot less noisy (I think I could deal with heat generated)?

The alternative is buying an Antminer S3 on Ebay. Significantly less GH/s but im okay with this, as it will primarily be for hobby. And it doesn't seem to have the same noise issues as the S5? Insights are welcome

Thanks for all wisdom.

S3 for a hobby if you want it quiet , unless you want to mod the S5 to be quiet but if your not to worried about ROI or anything at all  S 3 for fun and hobby . S3 are very quiet and much cooler then the S5 but if its hobby you can buy two water blocks http://shop.syscooling.com/goods.php?id=47 and then build a water  cooling kit off ebay cheap.

turning off auto invest means making keeping the bitcoins.....sit idle.....
I know. But i own so less khs that i only can afford it to withdraw once a month. So i keep auto-invest on to get more and withdraw even more if i turn auto-invest off. So is it clever to turn off now and wait for a better price or go further and earn more khs to get much more in total?

or set a goal hope you can attain it turn off auto investment then start taking coins is how I'm doing it once i hit like 700 MH lets say i turn it off then start taking coin every few days . and re invest those coins other places in Bitcoins i not doing it for cash as much i am for fun and some thing to do .
2493  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: difference between kilowatt and kilowatt per hour on: June 06, 2015, 02:51:52 AM
I received a rate schedule from a power provider.

There are two charges.

demand charge per kilowatt: $1.71
electric charge $.05 per Kwh

I have determined that "per hour" am doing about 5 kilowatts at the moment.

Can you tell me how I figure my monthly charge with that demand line?

Without the demand line I am figuring that my electric bill would be $180 a month.  Is my math correct?

thank you in advance for your thoughts.

demand charge per kilowatt: $1.71    delivery  charge maybe ?
electric charge $.05 per Kwh is what you pay per KwH or your power cost with no fees or taxes added .

BG and E flat came out and said they make more off the fees then they do selling the power it self. They don't care who we get it from at what price .

They said that on public record in those all most exact words.

mine would be about that or close may be 20 or 30 bucks more  if it wast for all the lame ass fees they get a way with .

come live in Maryland you would not believe some of the fees i see on my bill each month.

The bill should have a  % in my state for fees by law they can't change the % and believe me if they could they would it should be on yours as well, x% per KWH you use each month should do it but to do that you might have to install a in  home meter that might cost 149 or more not including installing it unless you can for the good ones. or buy a kilo Wat Meter and watch the usage each month or try to figure up you whole house . I don't trust smart meters either they all ways post a price on there site that makes no sense if i add up what the smart mater usages was i used  that shows on there site, it never adds right. and BG and E is non for bad billing habits in this state has been sued a few times for it and yet they keep doing it . if you look for those law suits you won't find much info on it but i personal knew some one who had to go to the local TV stations to get BG and E off there back and stop them from turning off there power illegally. once he did he got all kinds of help you wouldn't believe and BG and E was find big time for it.

2494  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + 3D printied mods on: June 06, 2015, 01:57:36 AM
are we a loud to use the stl files on public pay services to have them made if we don't try to sell it as ours which i won't do . stealing is bad and in the end no one gets any were .
This is really expensive to print from shapeways.com not worth the cost.

noticed some one told me to ask some one on the forums . id be better off after i did some more research, buying my own 3d printer in the long run, then let them do it shapeways.com or any the online services that offer it. So ill stick to member here or may be one day buy one at 400, that 400$ model  would suit my use, I remember, a few years back the 400 dollar one going for 5 k or more so i never bored or gave it a thought  Grin Cheesy

but now it is temping there not expensive anymore.

now the good stuff goes on sell to late and i would have meet you some place two days ago i live in Maryland no cash right now just bought a S5 and got a second one kind of free used .

If you'd rather have a tube instead of the S5s I'll gladly trade, if they work...

I'm  good one does the other doesn't but I'm talking with Bitmain for parts so can't complain.

but if I  had seen this two days ago i would have bought it and meet you some place . just small talk and a day late and dollar short. there is a place in Canada i can get replacement board for the tube. kind of cheap but the S5 are better to me but this was a deal you have sigh wish i had it seen it sooner .I have all most reached my goal for my home farm then I'll set back pay the power bill and collect the coins and hope the bottom doesn't fall out before i reach my goal of saved coins and sell them off.

anyone know how to change the http port from 80 on the S5? i want to port forward to it and i need my second one on a different port.

I use ipscan24.exe  (freeware from last year on this thread)
All s5 are on one network.

scans all ports for all devices.

2498  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 05, 2015, 10:56:43 PM
So it looks like the fix is consistent. I reseated chips on a couple failed previous stick assemblies, applied the fixes and they both work now. It's almost cheeseburger time (and other errands, mostly spending money on awesome stuff...) but tomorrow I'll be in and build some more sticks. We're running low on sample chips after all the prototype testing of various things, so I need to save the rest for the 18-board test setup which means I'll be scavenging chips off dead S5 boards for the sticks. Should be fun? And then I have to build heatsinks for them all, which means cutting and drilling and tapping.

But maybe tomorrow end of the day I'll have a hub full of sticks all blasting away I can post a picture of. Be pretty sexy.

Guess you didn't see my PM yet i hope that's it just need a address I'll send off one dead S5 board in the next few days . and the other one once i get it .
