2521  Other / Meta / Re: Complete overview of users on DT1 and DT2 and their ratings on: June 29, 2019, 03:51:04 PM
Interesting, how am I still on the DT1 list as I have already deleted my trust list probably a month ago? Wasn't one of the requirements to be a DT to have a custom trust list with at least (some number) of users in it? Maybe some things changed since the last time i read the rules..

What are you people talking about?? It's the vacation season here in Europe, and most of the people go on vacation from 1st of July. Since 1st is Monday the actual vacation stars today Smiley

2524  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {WARNING} Cybersecurity vulnerabilities/flaws that may affect you. Up to date. on: June 28, 2019, 10:37:01 PM
With all the ado going about these vulnerabilities where we are talking mostly about malwares, can someone throw some light on ransomware too which was on everyone's lips as it used to hack the PCs and hackers asking for BTC as extortion money to give back your data? That is one major thing that puts crypto under red light.

Well, you can live even without antivirus if you follow certain rules, you need to keep good digital hygiene, that includes to be careful which sites you are visiting, how you handle your mail and just the typical common sense kind of things. If you don't open a file you are not sure they are OK, and enable the shadow volume copy, you're going to be fine even with the randsomware.
2525  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {WARNING} Cybersecurity vulnerabilities/flaws that may affect you. Up to date. on: June 28, 2019, 07:49:55 PM
Maybe you can add this thread to your OP too https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4601535.0  guess a lot of new users dont know that this can be happen.

And it should be a warning for those that download things and that they should check it a few times before they download and install Software.

Also simple Browser extensions can also have some Malware in it .

Done man, good work. I haven't seen your thread before very useful information Smiley BTW if you see any threads that fall under this warning thread, please post them here Smiley
2526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calculate how much is Bitcoin? on: June 28, 2019, 03:08:35 PM
I don't see a way to actually accurately predict the price in a long term. For short terms TA helps a lot but again, it's quite unpredictable.
Example, an exchange is hacked, the price goes down, those occasions you cannot predict.
Another guy predicted that the price on 1st July will be 12345$, Looks like he is right, but i guess his "guessing strategy" won't work every time.

But don't give up, if you believe in what you are doing, you gonna be successfull Smiley
2527  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptopia exchange hacked on: June 28, 2019, 03:01:59 PM
Is there any way to check what people had on the exchange? I think I widraw everything from there but something keep me thinking that I still have (had) something.
So the site is down for quite some time now.
2528  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WARNING! to all VLC player users! Stop using VLC and update it now!! on: June 28, 2019, 06:05:35 AM
Even if my PC has a reputed Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware software to ^protect^ my PC, should I still consider it compromised if my OS is pirated?

Yes, your system is still vulnerable against zero-day exploit, especially due to update is disabled by default on some pirate distribution.

And what about a crack (or an activator) that allows you to freely update your software even with a fake key? If my OS remains updated, is it still vulnerable to hacks just because it isn't genuine?

4) I've an Antivirus which is itself cracked to use its Premium features

4) No Idea

Sorry for the incomplete statement there.
What I mean is:
What if I have an Antivirus software which is cracked by a software from some website to use its Premium features like adding extra database of all the known viruses from that Antivirus company, even though my Windows is genuine and not cracked?

Everything that's is cracked is not secure, just because it's very common that the cracking files are injected with Trojan horses. So you are infected right after your fresh installation. Try to avoid all the unlicensed software.
2529  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is there other exchage where you can withrdaw money to PayPal besides Coinbase? on: June 27, 2019, 06:44:56 PM
Then I guess I have to stick with Coinbase.
I have already a credit card and bank account connected there. Tested the PayPal withdraw and it worked good, of course you have the KYC.
2530  Other / Meta / Re: Copper Acct. Images Not Working on: June 27, 2019, 06:39:10 PM
In addition to everything that has been said, there is a restriction to 2 MB size for the forum proxy, if I remember correctly.
BTW, be sure that your image link always ends with .jpg, .gif or .png . This is not a regular forum like the others. Wink

2531  Economy / Exchanges / Is there other exchage where you can withrdaw money to PayPal besides Coinbase? on: June 27, 2019, 01:10:34 PM
I've been wondering lately if there is any other exchange where you can withdraw to Paypal besides Coinbase.
I have already registration in binance, livecoin and cryptopia (which is dead now).
2532  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: June 26, 2019, 12:26:16 PM
What's the easiest way to stake an address? Creating a paper wallet, from coinbase, or electrum? Or something else? Thanks!

Read this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
You cannot sign a message from Coinbase any longer so it's not an option. You need to own the private keys if you want to stake (properly)  an address here.
2533  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to post my articles on some big reputable new websites on: June 26, 2019, 07:49:31 AM
CNN is not new. Bitcoin Talk is big and reputable as well. Why not post them here.

I think he ment "news" instead of "new" and it was just a typo, or the other case is that he ment it's CCN and it's relativly new compared to CNN. I'm not quite sure that you can such service. Many reporters will kill to post on CNN.

"New Mac Malware Exploits GateKeeper Bypass Bug that Apple Left Unpatched"
Quote
macOS Gatekeeper Bypass Vulnerability

GateKeeper is a security feature built into Apple macOS that enforces code signing and verifies downloaded applications before allowing them to run, helping users protect their systems from malware and other malicious software.

That means, if you download an application from the Internet, GateKeeper will only allow it to execute without any warnings if it has been signed with a valid Apple-issued certificate, otherwise will prompt you to allow or deny the execution.
However, Gatekeeper has been designed to treat both external drives (USB or HDD) and network shares as "safe locations" from where users can run any application without involving GateKeeper's checks and prompts.

Until Apple patches this issue, researcher advised network administrators to block NFS communications with external IP addresses, and for home users, it is always important to not open email attachments from an unknown, suspicious, or untrustworthy source.

"Legit Apps Turned into Spyware' Targeting Android Users in Middle East"

Quote
Cybersecurity researchers are warning about an ongoing Android malware campaign that has been active since 2016 and was first publicly reported in August 2018.
Dubbed "ViceLeaker" by researchers at Kaspersky, the campaign has recently been found targeting Israeli citizens and some other middle eastern countries with a powerful surveillance malware designed to steal almost all accessible information, including call recordings, text messages, photos, videos, and location data—all without users' knowledge.
Quote
According to the researchers, the ViceLeaker attack campaign is still ongoing, and attackers could potentially distribute malicious repackaged versions of legitimate apps through third-party app stores, instant messengers, or attacker-controlled online webpages.
Since such apps masquerade as legitimate or popular apps, Android users are highly recommended to always download apps from trusted sources, like Google Play Store, to prevent themselves from becoming a victim to this attack.
However, you should also not trust every app available on the Play Store. So, always stick to only verified developers to avoid installing malicious apps.

Stay safe!

In other words if you have Dell laptop, don't use the Dell System Detect and update as soon as possible

Christ. Does this apply only if you have a Dell laptop, or is it PCs as well? In the article it mentions both laptops and PCs but here you only mention laptops, so could there be potentially some further clarification?

I guess to be safe, if you own any dell products, just check anyways.

Yikes. My Dell XPS 15 came with this software. Thankfully I installed Ubuntu right after it arrived.

Crazy how there are so many vulnerabilies everywhere (VLC, DELL software, ...) that goes unnoticed. Anything can be vulnerable to attack vectors. Undecided
it's sad how we can't just say anymore that we are safe as long as we don't download random stuff over the internet.

You really got to be extremely careful and stay up to date with these things.

And this is not just something that is brand discriminatory - it can happen to any OS, any manufacturer, any brand. There's a ton of people seem to think that they are protected simply because they use a OS different to windows, or that buying a certain brand's products will mean they can store their coins safely on a machine all of a sudden.

As I understand every system with installed dell support software is affected, but there is already a patch, so just patch it up and you will be good to go Smiley
2536  Other / Meta / Re: Stop shameless bumps if you have nothing new to say on: June 24, 2019, 03:40:07 PM
Personally I'm against necro-bumping when there is nothing relevant to say.

Fortunately, mods can sometimes delete the bump (and thus the visibility of the tread) if it is listed as off-topic. One of the greatest achievements of the merit sistem is that it stopped these gruesome people from posting in 2013 threads just to gain activity "because I have the right to post"

I hope those were the kind of bumps you were complanining about (and now you know you can report them)
My issue is that there aren't any defined/strict rulesets to depict how long a thread has to be inactive in order for a bump to be considered a necrobump.

Personally, I've encountered some barely-substantial posts bumping threads that have been inactive for a few months. I believe some of them were left there while others were deleted. The issue is, though, that it starts up a new wave of spam with old posts (some from over a year ago) being quoted and answered as if they were being asked now.

Example: "price reaching $X" post from 2015 being responded to now.

I would report it if I feel the bump is a necro one. Just report what you feel is wrong, don't really only on the rules. At least that is the impression I got from Theymos' comments from some time ago.
2537  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WARNING to all DELL users. Security Flaw in Pre-Installed Dell Support Software. on: June 24, 2019, 03:36:23 PM
From a browser software (Mozilla Firefox) to an exclusive security software built for Dell PCs and laptops there are now targeting a lot of softwares/programs outside of the scope of what we used to see. Before we are only just seeing Wallets getting phished and getting tracked on now they are getting more desperate on stealing money from us. If I were you I'll add another step on scanning my pc for malwares and biruses before opening up any of my wallets, storing your private keys in your PC is not an option anymore.

Hardware wallets, that's the key. Using a PC for regular browsing and storing crypto on it with this crazy price variations makes it just an easy target. I have Electrum on my regular PC only to sign and verify messages, so ... Keep your coins save.
2538  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: June 24, 2019, 01:57:38 PM
Some typos in the Guidelines I spotted Wink

Quote
Q: Someone insulted me. Why aren't you deleting his post/thread?
A: Possible (since we don't have the time or resources to check) insults are also allowed as long as they contain any kind of constructive opinion, info or something else substantial and aren't off-topic. For example, posting something like "you are dumb" will be deleted as it contains no meaningful content. However, if the post is somehwere along the lines of "You are dumb. This is wrong because this website/thread/etc. has explained it's not right", it's in most cases accepted.

Quote
Q: Why do I get the "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago." error when I haven't posted today?
A: Logging in, sending PMs and reporting posts to a moderator will also be counted as posting and extend this limit back to 360 seconds. Don't worry: as your activity increases, the 360 second limit will decrease as well. Here you can see the algorithm how the posting limit is caluclated based on your activity: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.msg4131557#msg4131557

If you want to try Linux (CLI experience only) you can do it directly in Windows 10 without making boot discs, reinstalling etc..
You just need to active the Windows Subsystem for Linux and then download the distro you like from the Windows store / i think there were few available > Ubuntu/Suse and some others.)

Good to know that those kind of threads really help, I'm keeping eye on the many security topics so maybe it will be useful to post important flaws/vulnerabilities here. Just wondering if this is a good place them.
