2561  Economy / Economics / Re: Effect of the FIFA world cup on Qatar's economy on: December 30, 2022, 02:25:50 PM
Qatar spent over $200 billion preparing to host the FIFA 2022 world cup. They spent that money on constructing roads, airports, public spaces, stadiums, gas stations, and more. They constructed seven new stadiums and renovated one to make it eight stadiums for the world cup. The cost of building these stadiums has been estimated to be $6.5 billion. They spent $36 billion to construct the Doha metro, and for the Pearl accommodation complex, they spent $15 billion.

So if Jakarta which is ranked at the top in traffic congestion, has about 33 million poeple in the metro area decided to host some Olympics or World tournament and build another metro line at the same time, it will count as a thing they did just for FIFA, right?   Wink

Quote
$6.5 billion to $10 billion: The range of estimates on how much Qatar spent to build seven soccer stadiums for this year’s World Cup.

That's how much they've spent for the stadium, the rest is on infrastructure that most likely would have been built even if there would have been no world cup hosted ever. They've just taken the whole amount spent on infrastructure in the last 10 years and declared this was for the world cup, completely ignoring that other countries that have nearly the same characteristics,  like Singapore, are also spending insane amounts on those, Singapore spends 30 billion a year in infrastructure and has just issued another round of 90 billion for the exact same thing that is booed in Qatar, subway, rail, and many others.

For real now, they've included in these 200 billion even the sum spent on a new hospital!!!!

2562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as Legal tender plan by Fiji's new prime minister on: December 30, 2022, 01:44:59 PM
more and more small countries are thinking of making btc a legal tender.

Yeah, if we go by what Bitcoinmagazine claims with every single possible thing in this universe as a real deal already in place you will see thousands of countries, oh wait, million adopting bitcoin. Do you know how many of these bitcoin legal tender is imminent in x we had lately?

and I'm tired of copy-pasting especially since I fell for the Lugano craze myself.

if it fails, they can easily go back to where they were. first or last, it doesn't matter.

Yeah, because forcing merchants to accept something they don't have a clue about, creating the infrastructure, employing and paying people to take care of the system to allow easy switch between currencies, and revamping the whole tax system is just a plug-and-play feature.
2563  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have dream This Chart On https://tradingview.com, Is This Correct? on: December 29, 2022, 06:00:42 PM
The moment you dream of a new chart every week it's probably the moment when you need to tell yourself to take a break and enjoy the holidays.  Wink
Overthinking daily stuff so much that you end up dreaming of them is a sign of real stress, and it's not a joking matter.
Anyhow, I find it quite interesting that between your two predictions the price moved exactly $11, you don't get this kind of occurrence, which basically tells you that nothing really happens only on expectations.

i'm xpecting more dump in coming days, on 25th we can se volitility to grab lp to hit SL,

Ok, here you got me totally confused, what are you expecting on the 25th, since today is the 29th?

PS.
Move this to speculation!

2564  Economy / Economics / Re: The fight over electric car batteries on: December 29, 2022, 05:26:28 PM
I'm sure it's the way I say it is, but it seems we have to agree to disagree. I don't have one at hand to record you a video.

Make sure in that video to record how many modes there are on that car because if it shows 7 I might ask again why did you say there are 4 yesterday  Wink
Common, you did it only to contradict me without knowing yourself how that car really looks, you fell for it, man up, and be done with it.

That's why I said you can compare ID.3 if you want. It's still much more expensive than the golf.

You started with the id4, get over with the id4, and don't switch cars as you fit just to try and avoid numbers.
Let's do the math for both cars now with the current! prices, current insurance, current tax, and current government bonus and see how this ends in 4 years of usage, are you up to it? Of course not, cause if you were you would have contradicted franky1 numbers!

Bruh, let me tell you this straight, this is bullshit and you know it too well.
You went for a sensationalist article without bothering to look at real prices!
Here is an example of a contract for exactly the town of Oud-Beijerland, with numbers that are half of what the article claims.

Just put a big banner in 100m red fonts with "electric cars suck" next time and be done with it, don't try to give the impression you're willing to debate or discuss numbers since you obviously don't want, you hate them and there is no way for anyone to convince you of anything else. So after the 3 out of 4 and 80cents/kwh I'm not trying it either anymore.
2565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as Legal tender plan by Fiji's new prime minister on: December 29, 2022, 05:03:14 PM
I can't find anything in this article about Fiji prime minister saying anything publicly about making bitcoin legal tender. As a matter of fact, it looks more like a clickbait article based on a rumour started by a Tonga politician who claimed Fiji PM is pro-Bitcoin.

And as I should have gotten used by now, you read the title, you open the article and the two are a world apart.

Quote
While Rabuka himself hasn’t been very public about his opinions on Bitcoin thus far, Lord Fusitu'a, a noble and former member of parliament of neighboring nation Tonga, has reportedly confirmed that the Fijian politician is a bitcoin bull.

In others news, a former member of parliament from Guyana has info that the United States plans to make bitcoin legal tender.
This is starting to look like desperation, we have a guy labeled as a bitcoin bull who has never ever mentioned crypto or bitcoin in public before and I'm starting to think he is more surprised about that news than we are. Btw, I lost count of how many times "coup d'état " is mentioned on this guy's Wikipedia page.

That lord from Tonga is already old news, and every time he appears in the media, a new date appears when Bitcoin will be legal tender in his country -

Hihi
https://twitter.com/LordFusitua/status/1481101011506774016
How easy it sounded, and now from 1-2-3, clap clap one week he is back with late 2023.

2566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin payment laundering in order to avoid taxation on: December 29, 2022, 03:42:38 PM
I think too many are focusing only on the spending part and not on the way they got these bitcoins in the first place.
He is getting paid in BTC  for services or products sold or offered by his company, which means that this must be a registered sale with an invoice, that it must be registered in his accounts, and not declaring it makes it tax evasion in the first place, and if he ever gets a thorough fiscal inspection they will see that there are products he purchased, he did not sell because he hasn't registered it and they have not been returned either,  so this will be the moment the nightmare begins.

In business relations, you always have to remember you're not alone, if a guy that has bought stuff for you thousands of dollars gets audited and when they check your books there is nothing there you're done for, no matter how cleverly you've been with spending those coins yourself.

Also, it would have been helpful to know what taxes are you looking at in your country for those payments and how many you think you can get because if your plan gets you an extra $50 without tax at the end of the month it's not worth even researching it, let alone doing it.

2567  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin debit card, no kyc on: December 29, 2022, 02:05:21 PM
Going through that medium article it seems like it has almost nothing to do with bitcoin, you end up with so many intermediaries that probably in case something happens you won't know who to call.

Quote
With the @v4vapp, we can use HIVE or HBD to pay Bitcoin Lightning invoices, which is what The Bitcoin Company generates for payments. Thus, we are able to spend HIVE or HBD on gift cards through the website.

So that article is more about how you want to spend some shitcoin than anything else.

Havent heard about the aforementioned website by you before. Is that company safe? I just went through their app on the playstore through the official link provided on their own site, and guess what? No reviews. I wouldn't trust such apps. If anyone even wants to try it out make sure you dont do it on your personal device, your privacy and security might be at risk.

They barely launched their business at the start of the year and didn't get any traction as it seems from the number of downloads, the apple store page has a few more reviews but I have the feeling those are written by the members of the team themselves, too many at the launch in late March early April and a huge pause after that. Even if it's a good product and not a scam if it has no usage you won't see any real feedback on it, and since they don't really offer anything new as the others mentioned, probably you won't see that many people using it from now on either.

2568  Economy / Economics / Re: The fight over electric car batteries on: December 29, 2022, 01:16:01 PM
You're saying it because you drove it, or read about it on the manufacturer's site?
There are 4 modes, but the "electric" is disabled until you warm up the car.
You can only start it in 3/4 modes and the electric becomes available after a while, so it doesn't allow you to drive straight out of the parking spot or your garage in electric mode.

You're saying that because you drove it or you read on the manufacturer's website?  Wink
The company that provides transport for us, airport shuttles, events, stuff like that has had for years two Sx50 hybrids, I know for sure those have 4 drive modes and I know for sure it can start and drive in full electric. Now, and this is where it becomes funny if I would have owned one or I would have gone to the manufacturer's website I would have known there are 7 drives modes out of which 6 are for driving from zero and one adaptive mode, so how did you get the 3 out 4? You realize at this point that you criticizing this model with your current knowledge is quite silly, right?

Quote
How many of these Porsche users are people who actually love the sound of the engine and would never sell their car to buy a new electric substitute? People who buy a car like that do it for various reasons, but being eco-friendly is not one of them.

Probably far fewer than you expect, noise is nothing without torque Wink
It's design, speed, handling, and not the noise that sells that car!

I used it to compare with the golf and and an electric car of similar size from the same manufacturer. It's obviously better to pay for more space, better looks, some useful features, than throw the same money into a silent running mode from a battery.

No, you didn't! Don't you realize how biased you are when you compare the id4 with a far small car when looking at the price and then you say it's better to have more room and more space when comparing it with a larger model that is, surprise not that large at all? Common, seriously I expected you to be far more objective on this!

You stick to the arbitrary things while ignoring the main thing that started this discussion and as much as it pains me to admit here I have to agree with franky1, you obviously and purposely toss aside numbers, ignore the running cost, ignore the average distance travel ignore everything bar the starting price, and this is no way of comparing two cars when you don't have an unlimited budget while stressing the decision is aimed at for saving money!

2569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Sam Bankman-Fried go to jail? on: December 28, 2022, 05:44:51 PM
I reckon Sam's lawyer can use this as a plead for a type of temporary insanity because he was under the influence of drugs.

He claimed battling depression in order to be released on bail, when you came to any kind of claim like this the judge will require you to go through an evaluation, which is quite common and it saves the court the trouble of another evaluation when the actual hearing starts as well. Neah, the insanity excuse has flown a long time ago, he can't play that card, especially since that would mean he was under the influence even during events like the testimony in Congress a year ago,  he won't go through something that can send him in more troubles, he will just say he was stupid, he made mistakes but he truly believed everything was fine, just like a kid would say he's sorry

2570  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto exchange Kraken to stop operations in Japan on: December 28, 2022, 05:16:05 PM
The article isn't saying everything and the way it's written may mislead people.

Yeah, there is no reason to really panic, not only will those funds be accessible but also, quite funny, Kraken has a lot of experience in the field, this is the second time they are leaving Japan, after all, the first period they were active was 2014-2018, now it's 2020-2022, so probably in 2024 they will be offering their services again for a year, just in time for the halving!
Japan has some serious capital control laws, the whole MtGox fiasco has made them look for more regulations, higher security standards which are more costly for companies, with this bear market and probably lack of interest it's the obvious choice, you either adapt or you go out Celsius style!

Of curse, just because this might go smoothly it doesn't mean to trust Kraken with all your coins and leave them there for months!

2571  Economy / Reputation / Re: Please save me. I can't anymore. on: December 28, 2022, 04:52:17 PM
I recently started a discussion to see if I could get a more precise answer about how much bounty hunters manage to earn through campaigns. to ignore the fact that signature spammers littered the thread with nonsense, as far as I've seen from a couple of experiences, hunters have only made a few hundred dollars in the last year or two.

Damn, I was so curious about that but the whole thread was spammed with useless things, 90% of them ignored the two years in the title and went for the 2017 period like a magnet, some just avoided typing a number, damn, a ton of useless feedback, lucky there were two or three who could actually read and take the time to type something useful. I'm wondering what a moderated topic with a part-time McDonalds vs bounty payout question would look like, but probably it will scare away most real bounty hunters for which each post count.

Are these people in such a desperate situation that this forum is their lifeline, or is it some kind of special mentality that is difficult for most people to understand? Besides, is it so difficult to read the rules of the forum and act in accordance with them?

This is the main problem, and this is why we're wasting time trying to explain to some what they did wrong, we all see this in different ways, just as it was with the endless plagiarism debates. They think like this: If I can do the "work" the two persons could do, why shouldn't I be remunerated like two persons? The whole thing is that we start with the rules and act from there, they start with their own interest and see if they can find faults in the rules in order to bypass them.
It's like thinking that driving over the speed limit is wrong only when you get in an accident!
2572  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: December 28, 2022, 03:24:35 PM
Yesterday I took a quick look over at blockchair and it was showing ~120 blocks in the last 24 hours, now it's back to 146, with the storm almost gone I think as I see the worst hit town Buffalo is seeing only positive temperatures (Celsius) probably we're going back to normal or whatever we can call normal these days.

The current pace is -10%, sure good news for miners but for some, lol  Grin, not quite enough.

Taking into account that even with all the possible discounts and bulk rates keeping all the miners active I would end up paying for them a consolidated 14 cents per kwh from around the 5-6th of January I will shut down all but two of them that I have moved in the main basement already before Christmas.
So, it's going to be cleaning, packing, and probably most likely selling for BTC (I already feel bad for the guy who is taking over), do a bit of not so honest accounting, and declaring myself happy with the outcome depending on how I juggle with BTC vs Euro profits.   Grin
The most amazing thing is that I try to be sad about it but I feel more relieved than sad, looking back, man that was a pain in the ass! Funny at times, exciting, but a pain in the ass nevertheless.

In other non news,
Bitcoin Miner Argo Will Avoid Bankruptcy With $100M Bailout from Novogratz’s Galaxy
They keep throwing money at those businesses faster than at the best stripper club in town!

Anyhow, a late Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to everyone, and I guess we'll move to a relaxed  Cool 2023 topic?
2573  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. National Debt Ceiling on: December 28, 2022, 02:59:55 PM
Because they also increase the cost of everything each year by some % factor and thus levy taxes on it to keep the nation going. Idk, but that’s a dirty business and we can’t really compare US and Japan. The US has always been ranked first for the GDP in comparison with any other nation while over the time public debts will also matter.

First, Japan has suffered from deflation so the whole increase was simply not happening.
Second, why not compare them, Japan is a 5 trillion economy that ranks 3rd in the world with one of the highest GDP per capita, so what would be a real argument for not comparing them?

The difference between Japan in 98 and US in 2022 is that, we have just crossed pandemic cycle.

And? The point still stands, we have a country that has managed to get over a GDP-to-debt ratio of 200%  over 14 years and as you can see despite going through the same pandemic is still acting the same, actually welcoming inflation, which barely managed to hit 4% and is set to decline again.
You do realize they have gone tough the 2000 recession,  the dot com bubble, the 2007 crisis, and the 2020 crash just like everyone else and we don't see the same panic of Japan collapsing? This shows just how biased the world is when just because they envy and hate the US they try to ignore how others have dealt with these issues for decades. Nigeria has a GDP-to-debt ratio of 20% Canada has exceeded 100% with consolidated debt, let's do a quick poll about where you would want to start a business or live  Wink

Sometime in future millions of peeps are going to withdraw their gratuity and provident funds from the government and it would intersection of chaos.

Yeah, somewhere in the future which can be 1 month from now and 100 years, in which case I have to ask, do you honestly make your financial planning based on what might happen in 2060?
2574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin decimals. Is 1.00000000 Bitcoin the same as 1.000000000000 Bitcoin? on: December 28, 2022, 02:21:51 PM
Curious to know what the general user thinks.

I'm quite curious why you would think that any kind of subdivision would mean injection, this is just the pure definition of trailing zeros, why would that thought even come to mind? It would be a different thing if we would increase the amount of each balance by an order of magnitude and add zero before the dot, that's another story.

And, speaking what the "average" user thinks, well, thank you for giving our troll a month's supply of candy so he doesn't get hungry explaining to us how bitcoin is not bitcoin. Furthermore, didn't we all have some kind of gentlemen's agreement that all these non-sense debates with a certain person should be contained in one topic?
Not that I expect the said person to respect it, but at least keep to keep his nonsense under 500 words per page?
2575  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Im new in crypto but i have idea on: December 28, 2022, 01:56:58 PM
Then how i make money in crypto?
I want to make 1000$ daily atleast then i see this crypto Has some point.

You want to make 1000$ daily, you want to charge 2%, and let's say the average deal settlement for this business would be 4 days, so you would need to roll over 200k over the said period, but let's make it easier and count it in 24h timeframes and that's just around 20 million a year since you gave an example for London, we look at B&Q and they have 12 million a year per shop or if we go big, Ikea has around 90 million.
So you think you could alone manage teh sales what shops with ~100-300 employees do?  Cheesy

I figured that crypto can be perfect way to make it safe aswell and no third party distrubtion.

Hmm, you're the third party in this case!

Wow, 1000$ a day from crypto? That sounds like a totally realistic and achievable goal! I'm sure all you have to do is snap your fingers, and the money will just magically appear. I mean, who needs to put in any hard work or effort when you can just sit back, relax and let the money roll in? Good luck with that!  Cheesy

You forgot to add with no capital whatsoever or risk, but yeah, you pretty much nailed it!
2576  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. National Debt Ceiling on: December 28, 2022, 01:44:04 PM
What do you think and the possible effects if the United States defaults on its debts or its credit rating is downgraded?

Simple, we're f*****!
Rember when the US economy coughed a decade ago? The entire world came down with a fever if now it would default on all the debt it would send us into a coma, everything that's happening now will be remembered as the not-so-bad times before the collapse.

Leaving the consequences aside, the level of debt doesn't matter as long as its serviceable, people have been talking about the default for decades, and every single raise has come with predictions of an imminent collapse and obviously, there was none, Japan's debt has surpassed GDP back in 98 and since then we have heard all these stories about how it will end, crash, burn and here we are 25 years from that, another 14 years since it has gone over 200% and nothing.
To put in perspective, from the start of that news, 1 billion people have died in this world of old age and haven't seen the "inevitable" happening, how many it will be till the US defaults? 10?

2577  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I am a bit confused about this... on: December 28, 2022, 01:24:22 PM
Does that mean that Binance can "unwrap" a bitcoin after a specific time, if they feel that the customer does not own the private key to the wrapped bitcoin anymore? I thought this would not be possible, because if it is this would be very unethical as you said in your post.

Wrapped, Safu, tokenized all useless words that try to hide reality.
As Loycev said, all those wrapped tokens, coins whatever are just IOU promises, there is no difference between WBTC and Terra, they were both backed by consent that was not in your control, so when the ones really controlling those decide it's time to pull the plug you're left with a coin backed by literally nothing and worth just as much as some moron who has not read the news is willing to pay.
Same for UST, the same for BUSD, same for every coin that promises stability or pegging to a value. If this can't work in the real world with currencies, do you think the likes of CZ or Kwon (ups) can solve it?

As for unethical, should we ask SBF what is considered ethical in the industry?

Back to the matter at hand, if Binance would really care about the fees and about Bitcoin, the order on that list would be a little different right? Not with a fake bitcoin being first and the real Bitcoin second? Or if they wound;t want to trick their customers, they could have simply made a different selection for BNB Bitcoin, whoever wants bitcoin click on Bitcoin and deals with that, the ones that want BNB scam coins click on BNB  and do the deposit from there.

Reminds me of a Simpsons scene, it's like you press to vote with Democrats, and the first option is Bush.

2578  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An BTC Assumption on: December 28, 2022, 12:55:47 PM
But your funds are gone.
What will you do with it?

What all people are going to do when they are in that situation in real life and not when they are reading a scenario on a forum?
Panic, curse, panic, curse, retry all the wallets 100 times in the hope I have loaded the wrong one, check the balances 1000 times on block explorers, curse again, take antihypertensive medication, start inquiring all family members, panic more, and then accept it and slowly starting to admit what happened, and return to the normal life, probably easier than others since I don't drink and don't smoke so I can't find "refuge" in those or other "alternatives".

That's one reason I don't hold all my life savings in one place, that's why I will never be full BTC no other saving in either deposits or treasury bonds or whatever, and why I don't plan on doing it and nobody should do either.

Oh, and everyone saying they will be calm and analyzing this and blabla, common people, be real, you won't stay calm if all your money would be gone. Nobody would! Drop the poker face!
2579  Economy / Economics / Re: The fight over electric car batteries on: December 28, 2022, 12:44:45 PM
Most people don't spend 100k EUR on a car. 99% of users will want something cheaper, and cheap doesn't go with electric. For instance, one of the most popular cars in Europe VW Golf starts at 30k EUR, but it's electric crossover version, the ID.4 starts at 46k.
To give you a perspective, you're spending so much money to upgrade your Golf to silent running, that for the same money you could get a new Arteon, their most luxurious model, but with a traditional engine.

The ID.4 is not the equivalent of the Golf as it's larger than both the Golf Variant and Tiguan, the Arteon is not luxury but a simple Passat CC, with 400k registered Porsche cars in Germany and with 16% of the sales going into the luxury and premium Sedan and SUV sales I think there are enough buyers, there is a 4k bonus for over 40k and 9k for under, even at the consumer rates for kwh so no charging stations, electric versus gas still getting 8k before 100k km at current rates for both petrol and electricity in Germany for the models mentioned. Did I get them all?

So for cheap and used cars yes, gasoline is way cheaper, for a mid-size the cost will be recovered somewhere between 100k and 150k km and for luxury it starts making less sense in terms of $.

These are their predictions.
Remember how similar people were saying that Bitcoin would die and go to 0 back in 2013? The same people were predicting the Internet would never be big and people wouldn't need to have computers at home.

Well, right now you're the one defending the regular mail and thinking email won't catch on.

People don't want this to happen though because in simplest terms electric cars suck.
Have you heard of those new Mercedes cars? Their new hybrid 63S doesn't allow you to start in electric mode, you first have to start the combustion engine and then switch to electric and its battery allows you to drive for less than 10km before you run out of power. It's a joke

All AMG hybrids have 4 start-up modes, you can safely drive with full electric in electric or start with comfort mode, but if you want the performance of course for god sake you need to turn the ICE on, it's a hybrid, it has a Biturbo V8 600hp+ engine, how can you get performance with the auxiliary in a hybrid?

After the well-known Nigerian price, we had the Ugandan gold tycoon who discovered a gold mine with 100 times the concentration fo any gold mine and now we have the richest lithium mine in the Universe, that could produce
Quote
If the Arcadia Lithium Mine, located 308 kms south of the capital Harare, is deployed then the annual production will reach 2.5 million tons, bringing in $3 billion in exports.
2.5 million tons a year from he total reserves Zimbabwe has of 500 000t, so , it will operate probably only for two months and close down  Grin

Also, Zimbabwe and protectionism, I remember how that went with their masterplan in agriculture, nationalize the evil white farmers' land, destroy the farms, render them useless, beg the farmers to return, beg them on all fours, beg them and pay more in damages and retributions than when nationalizing them, pretty well.

The real problems of lithium batteries in cars have not been addressed here.
Here's my list
1.  Expensive compared to just about every other car.

It depends a lot on the model, for the mini-cars definitely, if you go for the middle segment starts to dwindle as a Peugeot 2008 is 37k vs 26k, but for others like the luxury or large SUV the differences in percentage becomes rather insignificant or it becomes cheaper, the standard electric Q8 e-ton is 2000 euros lower than the gasoline basic.
