261  Economy / Economics / Re: Food for thought on: December 21, 2023, 12:08:21 PM
For those working for government or an entity, try  to  start a small business and grow it gradually while still doing your 9am- 5pm job.

With current economic situation, inflation and all things getting more expensive, side hustling is a must, even when without the possibility of being laid off by our company, and more reasons to do so when there is that risk. The inflation growing more rapidly compared to our salary growth, without side hustling we actually earn less.

Tho some argue that some people doesn't have the time for side hustle but we must spare the time, we couldn't only rely on government to fix this problem, need to find our own solution while blaming the government for their incompetence.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin ok in Viet Nam? on: December 20, 2023, 01:33:01 PM
I visited Vietnam Last year, I am not sure about the legality of Bitcoin in here, but you can't directly purchase anything with Bitcoin as far as I know. There is a Vietnam based crypto exchange https://bitcoinvn.io/ so I guess it's not completely illegal, but to use this exchange you will need to have account on Vietnam local bank.

My advice  if you still want to use Bitcoin as your main reserve is you can ask for Debit Card from your bank, then use your usual way to convert Bitcoin to your own local currency and then transfer it to your bank account, and use your debit card to withdraw some cash in Vietnam ATM.

That's what I did on my last visit to vietnam
263  Economy / Economics / Re: One of the biggest problem in our society is that average person don't have on: December 20, 2023, 01:14:45 PM
Average person don't have access to capital flow.
And cryptocurrency should be working that way like the average person so everybody can have access to capital and make wealthy themselfes and family.

I don't understand how do you think that Cryptocurrency can make more people to have access to capital, currently we still need money a.k.a capital to buy Cryptocurrency. You might get free crypto by working on some stuff, but then again you will still need tools and required capital to get those tools. The lack of capital on some people that lead to poverty is a very complex problem that not even crypto alone can solve it.
264  Economy / Economics / Re: Used cars and real estate market very volatile and a lot people will fomo in on: December 20, 2023, 01:10:29 PM
Cars specially used cars + real estate+bond market+sp500 Will be very volatile.

I don't understand why you put Cars in this list together with real estate and bond market. The other two are investment but Car is not, Car could be a used as a productive tool, but a certain thing is that Car is liability. You need to spend more money on your car for gas and maintenance. And most of the time if you own a generic car, the price will keep declining.

While real-estate and bond is an investment, those two can gain value.
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Secure your crypto wealth by not having it all in crypto on: December 20, 2023, 10:29:15 AM
If the fund is not in crypto, than it's not a crypto wealth actually. I do agree that we should diversify our investment, and I mean not only split between altcoins or bitcoin, but split into many other instruments like stock, bond, etc. And to be honest I have never meet anyone as in an Individual who own 1 Millions of crypto assets. Maybe some investments company owns 1 Million USD worth of crypto but that's belong to their mulitiple clients not one individual.
266  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you still use Banks ? on: December 20, 2023, 10:14:57 AM
I would say I currently trusting my fund to Bank more than to BTC not because Bank is better or more secured, I think Bitcoin is more secured, but currently Bitcoin is not a legal tender in my country.I don't have other options, I need to have Bank account to swap my Bitcoin into local fiat so I can spend the money to fulfill my needs.

There maybe other option like Bitcoin Debit Card, but it's very rare in here, and the fee to use it is too expensive. And I believe I am not the only one, I think most people in this forum has the same case with me.
267  Economy / Economics / Re: Are fast-fashion shopping apps hurting local economy? on: December 20, 2023, 09:25:42 AM
I think it's depends on the Platform, in my country the popular online marketplace platform is local platform, only few people shop on international marketplace like AliExpress, Temu, or Amazon, they only use those when there is no other alternative local product.

These local online marketplace were User Generated and totally autonomous, and most of the merchant is local business, the platform only act as moderators and escrow so scam and fraud could be minimized and the scammers could be banned. Each merchant were totally indepenndent and fully in control of what product they sell, the price, and how they ship their products. As I said that most of the merchant were local brands, it really helps those local brands to grow, before the trend of this online marketplace there are only less 10 local fashion brand, but after this online marketplace emerge many local brands were become popular because it usually cheaper, since it's produced locally less shipping and no custom and import fee.

268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You will burn on: December 19, 2023, 12:18:00 PM
I do agree that Altcoins is far more risky compared to Bitcoin, it's not automatically suicide when a person invest in Altcoins. For early investors sure, it's not good, even Bitcoin is still risky for early investor and altcoins is far more risky. But there are some people who actually knows what they are doing and doing a thorough research before they are investing in altcoins and they can actually make a sustainable profit.

But then again , I am very agree that altcoin is far more risky compared to Bitcoin.
269  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big buying opportunity might be on the horizon on: December 19, 2023, 12:12:13 PM

SEC denial of the approval can cause crypto to crash massively, if the ETF isn't approved by January buckle up for a spiral run down the hill kinda market behavior.

Even though I agree that this is a possibility, but looking at how the market previously react to ETF news, the price movement is not that huge. Sure, it will make some effect, but don't forget that the hype of halving is also on progress. Even without halving hype, I think SEC decision towards ETF will not make extreme price movement, the SEC has never made good decision regarding Bitcoin, but the market still survive.
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IPhone App For Cryptocurrency Price Alerts? on: December 19, 2023, 10:07:14 AM
I have been using the Coinmarketcap iOS app, and it has been great, my favorite feature is the Watchlist widget where you can pick some of your favorite cryptos then you just one swipe away to keep up to date to your favorite crypto price. Other good feature is the portfolio features, tho it's not as good as Blockfolio back then but it's still great, the cons only that you can put your portfolio on widget too, I wish they can add this on the widget in the future.
271  Economy / Economics / Re: Insurance is important on: December 19, 2023, 09:27:54 AM
~

It's not possible for people with average income to get into insurance because it has no meaning and that's why Op emphasize on those making money and have properties that are insurable. You can see that from the part of his post I quoted below. If to register for insurance is free and open for everyone, everybody will rush to register for it but as an average man struggling to feed three square meals, what are you insuring? Some can not even afford the first registration fee not to talk of monthly due. Insurance is only favorable to those who have enough money and properties that are worthy of reasonable amount in order to avoid great lose in case of any disaster or predicament occurring in the future.

If you make money, get health insurance for you and your family, and insure your assets that are a source of income, businesses. Get a life insurance to secure your family's future.
There's a saying " hope for the best and plan for the worst".

Definitely, if someone can not even fulfill their basic needs, they won't even think about insurance. But then I think health facility is a basic right that should be provided by governments. I didn't mean that Government's should provide free healthcare, but Government should provide an insurance system that are affordable to all economic class.
272  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How dangerous are email phishing links and youtube and twitter links? on: December 19, 2023, 09:16:08 AM

I always heard if you open an exe file, then you are screwed.  But as long as no program opens on the computer, you are generally fine?  But I did recall someone say they can open an exe file open without you knowing... is that true?

Yes, actually hacker can disguise .exe program as any files, .jpeg, .pdf, anything. People who don't have experience and knowledge about phising, could probably lured into installing hacking program and end up losing all of their money. But nowadays, other than .exe files, phising that targetting mobile user especially for phone that are using android. Similar case on PC, they will send something like fake Shipping Tracking, or Payment Proof that look like images or pdf files but actually those file will install hacking app.
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google is preparing for Spot Bitcoin ETF on: December 17, 2023, 09:53:29 PM

I never think that Google is opposed to Bitcoin, they just have big responsibilities toward their massive and extremely diverse users

They have big responsibilities towards their massive shareholders to make profits.

Well, that's also true, they are a 'for profit business' after all, not a non-profit, so from that point of view opening channel for Crypto business that is still emerging nowadays to use their platform, will significantly surging their profits. Also in that sense, there is a possibility that Google will back to ban crypto ads when the market is bad, they have done this before I think.
274  Economy / Economics / Re: Luxury and spending lifestyle fastest way to poverty rich kids on: December 17, 2023, 09:48:08 PM
It's true that parents should be able to provide comfort to their children, because of course they love their children because of that they provide comfort and pleasure including by spoiling them. wise parents will educate their children well and also by spoiling them. if they are educated harshly it can make them depressed and of course this can have consequences for them later when they grow up.

There are indeed some parents who educate their children harshly, but this harshness is in the sense that they set discipline firmly, the goal is for their own children to be independent and be able to take responsibility for everything well without having to avoid problems that occur. that's what parents who educate their children firmly want.

Eventhough I agree that strict and 'harsh' parents are not fully bad, because I myself have strict and harsh parent and I turns out fine. But more modern parent tend to be less harsh and more permissive toward their children nowadays. Back on my day no one would argue if a parent beat their children once in a while, but now everyone will gone mad when they see a parent land their hand on their children, even for just a quick slap. But to be fair those children who has more modern and permissive parent, actually still grow up to be a responsible adult, maybe because the easier access for information, some of them are even more economically educated than my generation who grew up with strict and harsh parent. They know investmeant early in their youth, and have a good money management.
275  Economy / Economics / Re: Forces of Inflation: Turkey's Central Bank Boss Will Move In With Her Parent on: December 17, 2023, 09:32:38 PM
Turkey's Lira has been experiencing devaluation for at least 1 year now, a lot of problem is happening on basic level of Turkey's economy. Their import far more compared to their export, and how the central bank handling the inflation problem is not helping at all. Turkey's Central Bank doesn't increase the interest rate, to discourage people from borrowing money and control the inflation. If nothing change on the economic policy, the trajectory seems to lead Turkey's to the same place as Venezuela.
276  Economy / Economics / Re: Retirement Age for Workers - Does this Make Sense? on: December 17, 2023, 02:21:30 PM
Quote
France's Constitutional Council on Friday approved an unpopular plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, in a victory for President Emmanuel Macron after three months of mass protests over the legislation that have damaged his leadership.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/france-retirement-age-raise-64-approved-constitutional-council/

This so-called measure has several benefits and drawbacks. The elder employees can benefit from their years of experience if they are retained on the job for longer, which is one advantage. The drawback of this is that many workplaces will report low performance because there is an inverse relationship between a person's success at work and their deterioration in cognitive and physical capacities.

Regardless, what I think is that the government shouldn't shove it down the throat of people. Workers who are approaching retirement age should be given a choice after appraisal to keep working or retire.

What sense does this make? Would you agree or disagree?

Raising Retirement Age when the life expectancy has become longer is actually make sense. The reason why retirement age exist is because at certain age a person was deemed to be unreliable to do some task. But along with the development of medical and nutritional science, people will have better life quality, compared to the previous generation, the later generation must have better nutrition and life style. And the result is that previously people who are on their 60s considered to be less reliable, but with better food and life-style nowadays people are still able to work even after their 60s.

All that being said, I would still prefer that elder are given a choice whether they are willing to continue to do their job or just retire.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we reduce the energy consumption of POW? And whether it is necessary on: December 17, 2023, 02:02:19 PM
Crypto mining is the least energy consumption people need to worry about, there are a lot of other stuff that consume massive energy. Food processing, transportation, .etc. According to this article, https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/bitcoin-energy-use-compare-industry Bitcoin only consumes 0.28% of energy of total energy consumption by Transportation.

https://www.techopedia.com/bitcoin-mining-and-energy-statistics#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20New%20York,cooling%20throughout%20the%20US%20annually.

In here, Bitcoin mining consumes roughly 0.5% of all energy produced worldwide.

That number is insignificant, even if all the miners stop, energy crisis will still happening.
278  Economy / Economics / Re: Which do you prefer on: December 17, 2023, 01:48:33 PM
Which do you prefer an why.

If I can do both, I will do both equally, but if I need to just pick one, or prioritize one than the other, then I would choose my stable monthly salary job, and I can do some trading on my spare time. Doing trading involve financial risk, while having normal job just required us to do the work, the worse could happened if the business collapse is that we will lose our job, we won't lose any money.
279  Economy / Economics / Re: Pay discrimination on: December 17, 2023, 08:55:02 AM
Salary or job payment is not only determined by the effort or stress you put into the work, but it's also affected the percentage of supply and demand of the workers who are able to do the job. Less people can do the high-skilled work on white-collar job compared to the people who has the skill to do blue collar job. Thus the market make the adjustment on the price of those work, high-skilled people has the leverage to demand for higher salary because not many people can do their job, employer doesn't have much of a choice. On the opposite, when blue-collar worker who do low-skilled job demands for higher salary, employer can just replace him with other people who are willing to do the job with less salary, that is how free market capitalism work.
280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ordinal blockchain irking me, causing almost $40 median fee now... on: December 17, 2023, 08:37:39 AM
Maybe only a much higher BTC price will stop those ords from infesting the mempool....

Or maybe until people stop buying ordinals and the hype ends. This shouldn't last long, could be just another trend. Currently the only solution is, as stated by many other are using accelerator.
To be honest I never expect that the day will come when Bitcoin blockchain are popularly used to issuing nonsense like NFT. We got enough smart-contract platform to issue NFT, people doesn't seem to feel enough of everything.
