441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are We Need Satoshi? on: October 13, 2023, 09:15:48 PM
Right now, I don't think Satoshi will play any significant role in Bitcoin development going forward. Making him active again would even be risky for them and probably Bitcoin too, their identity will be hunted to be revealed, and when that happened and the world found that Satoshi is not a perfect person, we will start make connection between Bitcoin and Satoshi's flaw, and people will not have objective views anymore towards Bitcoin.

Satoshi has created such a sophisticated invention so let them rest.
442  Other / Meta / Re: How many people use Tor to access TalkImg? on: October 13, 2023, 09:10:42 PM
I only use TOR to access TalkImg (and some other site) while I was not in my home network, and I mostly use my home network, so I barely use it. And specifically to TalkImg I never encounter any difficulties, whether when accessing the site or uploading the image. Sometimes the image links doesn't work, but I guess that happens too on other image hosting site occasionally, so I never think that problem was related to TOR. But tbh idk.
443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Precious Metals - the final verdict is in. on: October 13, 2023, 01:03:05 PM

Gold is not going to make someone rich. How many people have you ever seen that say "investing in gold made me rich"? None!

This statement is so true, only few even almost no one could get rich buy buying gold or other precious metal. But, I Bitcoin and Gold has different usage. For speculator and people who seek for profit and their main goal for buying assets is speculating on the price and get profit from it, then Bitcoin beat gold in many ways, but just like any other investment, high profit also means high risk, so for people who seek for stability and reliability for their assets, Gold is definitely more suitable than Bitcoin.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many halvings have you witnessed? on: October 13, 2023, 12:56:57 PM
I have only known Bitcoin and crypto since mid 2017, so I only have witnessed 1 Halving previously on 2020. From I notice, the previous halving have more hype than the current upcoming halving. Probably because there was only few big news happening nearly towards the halving date, while for the upcoming halving there are too many big news like wars, ETF, recession, .etc. So the hype for halving is distracted.
445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between bitcoin and cryptocurrency. on: October 13, 2023, 10:35:28 AM
I've come to realise that many people still don't understand that there are other cryptocurrencies apart from the bitcoin,

If you mean by many people is many people outside this forum then you may be right, but since we don't have any data so we can't be certain, but if you mean by many people is many people in this forum, then you probably wrong, most of the people in here is bitcoin and crypto enthusiast, they should know the basic like distinguishing between Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, and Altcoin, they has their own section in this forum.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the Future of Bitcoin without the Inventor? on: October 12, 2023, 01:58:34 PM
I have been having some critical thinking lately on what the future of Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology will be. What will be the fate of Bitcoin should in case the founders of this great digital currency and assets die. It is not a wish but it is a known fact that all humans will taste the sad and irreplaceable part of this life – death.

Despite that the Bitcoin technology was designed in an open source software – a source code that everyone, including me and you, can inspect, modify and enhance. The effect of the founders could be felt if they are not available to in any way monitor the processes.

I don't have an in depth knowledge on how the open source software works, which has perhaps led me to more curiosity hence my question, yet I feel like Bitcoin still undergo some security guard and monitoring to safeguard it against the black-hats.

Can someone on this forum help me clarify (in simple terms) on some of the infrastructures or technologies put into the development of Bitcoin that can make it stand, forever?

The fact that Bitcoin's Creator Satoshi Nakamoto just gone MIA shortly after Bitcoin has been launched and never make any development or addition by himself, proof that Bitcoin is truly decentralized and doesn't need the Original Creator. And I think that's what satoshi wanted, he made Bitcoin open source so everyone can make the good out of it, even he has gone.
447  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How can I trade on P2P On Binance exchange? on: October 12, 2023, 01:47:26 PM
There is a tutorial from made by Binance officially in here,
https://www.binance.com/en/support/faq/how-to-sell-cryptocurrency-via-p2p-cash-trade-zone-on-binance-app-281b12d4a7c34598b3403eb7299663bc

We all know Binance is one of the best exchange in the world

One of the biggest exchange sure, but I doubt that many people consider binance as one of the best exchange, the mobile app is horrendous and laggy, even on the latest phone, the UI is extremely overwhelming, and frequent unannounced maintenance. Not to mention that they required KYC, sometimes more than ID. There are a lot of better exchange than Binance, like one I put on my signature, eXch
448  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You data is not safe on centralized exchanges on: October 12, 2023, 01:40:13 PM

Is the message randomly sent to people?

I doubt that, On 2019, Binance reported that there are data breach on their user data, users email probably stolen and it could be sold online to scammers. This note exclusive to Binance or even crypto exchange, marketplace and other sites too. All the user could do is be more careful while receiving email that seems suspicious. And I think even those exchange knows that KYC is useless, but they still need to do that for formality to pass the government regulation and be considered as 'compliant exchange'
449  Other / Meta / Re: best replies should appear first in a thread. on: October 12, 2023, 02:06:59 AM
I have this habit of reading through many replies to a thread before I will respond. At the course of reading through few pages of a thread before replying, I discovered that;
  • The earliest replies get more attention and earn more merit
  • Some of the replies from pages 3 upwards are repetition of what others said in pages 1 and 2.
  • I also understood that some of the quality contributors sometimes arrive late and their replies get buried easily
I therefore propose that, if possible, the arrangement of replies to a thread should be based on the number of merits that reply earned in that very thread. This will tend to sort the quality replies to appear in the first page no matter what time it was made. Even if the reply appeared on page 7, just 1 merit to that reply will send it to page 1. This will also help researchers to meet the most relevant posts in the first page, without having to search through tones o replies.
This sounds good to me but it may not go well with some other persons, I decided to drop the suggestion here. Although, I don't know much about the SMF version of the forum, but with the way people complain about it, it seems it doesn't allow some certain things to be incorporated to the forum.

I think the system will be similar to the upvote on reddit, but I don't think that kind of system is suitable in all thread/OP or in all section, especially on the thread or section when the focus is just to discuss, rather than finding a solution, in the thread where the focus in discussion like this OP, I prefer a chronological order like the current system, so I wouldn't miss the context for all argument/statement that quote other replies.

However, that system might be suitable on a certain forum section like Beginner and Help where the most of the thread were made to find a solution for a certain problems, so I guess an extra option won't hurt, but it shouldn't be the default option.
450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yesterday marked 200 days to Bitcoin Halving on: October 12, 2023, 01:59:46 AM
As mentioned by other replies we can't really do a daily countdown on Bitcoin halving, it would be better if you use block height as countdowns, as the time I write this reply, the block height is around 811,*** so about 29.*** more blocks into halving. I think the Bitcoin halving are getting less hype, because we got overwhelmed by many other news like ETF, and other crypto news.
451  Economy / Economics / Re: Help me analyze the feasibility of this business idea on: October 12, 2023, 01:37:51 AM
But now I have grown to know how much teachers are paid and the fact that a single source of income isn't enough to sustain one in today's world

The part when you say that salary from teaching will not be enough for everyday life is a bit sad actually, I thought it's only happening in my country, yet I am wrong.

I think this may depend on the area and whether you are an elementary or middle school or college teacher. In my country, many teachers have very low salaries and struggle to take care of their families, even forcing them to find other part-time jobs like what you and the OP mentioned. But besides that, many teachers have quite good income, in addition to income from school, they also open classes at home and have many students come to study. They don't even have time to rest and of course their income is huge.
In my country, teacher salaries are also low, so many teachers have to make money on the side by doing business, there are also those who sell online and quite a few are now taking advantage of developing technology such as YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. to become a content creator.

This is very different from developed countries where teacher salaries are the second highest after doctors and paramedics. Yes, in my country. The second lowest number is like disrespecting teachers. So this is the fate of the nation's children who do not give birth to intelligent people. The government should set teacher salaries because one of the reasons why great people are born is also because there are teachers who educate and teach. So we hope that in the future teacher performance will be increasingly appreciated. Sorry I vented, I talked like this. Coincidentally, my older brother is a high school teacher, he also earns extra income by giving private lessons and selling online too.

Education is the foundation that helps evaluate whether a country's economy is developed or not, the future of the country depends entirely on education. So it's terrible that many governments still don't see that importance and look down on the education sector. In my country, education is also gradually declining as schools and teachers begin to care more about students' achievements than their actual learning abilities. This is really alarming for the future of the country but it's too bad that the government doesn't see it and it's going downhill day by day.

The kind of method where education was more focused on the end results and a good score on the test has been happening for a long time in my country. I don't think it's merely teacher's will, they may be encouraged by the school, because in here when the school has students that has great score in a national test the school will be viewed to have more prestige.
452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Case of Global Conflict, Is BTC The Best Alternative? on: October 10, 2023, 01:42:16 PM
In case of Global Conflict, BTC would be better option than Fiat, but I don't think it's better option than Gold. I wouldn't just turn all my assets into Bitcoin. But all that being said, if my country is the one that are having a conflict or war, I wouldn't even think about money, I would just try to survive, gather any food and water, I mean trying to leave the country might be too late right?
453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin millionaire: Lucky or possesses more qualities that we don't have. on: October 10, 2023, 01:36:23 PM
Why not both? I know no one who become millionaire just because of Bitcoin investment, but I know people who make a lot of profit because they buy / trade Bitcoin, some of them are early adopter, most of those early adopter are software engineers who knows about Bitcoin and just mine it for a while, they just left their Bitcoin on their wallet, and when they heard that Bitcoin price was going crazy in late 2017 they sold it and they made a lot of money, I consider them as both Lucky and have more knowledge than others. While some other are buying bitcoin right before the price going up 2020, they aren't tech savvy, they never heard and never do any research on Bitcoin, they just buy bitcoin because they heard the popularity of Bitcoin, that's just pure luck.
Being lucky or skilled are not mutually exclusive options, you can be both and if you are, not only great fortune is too follow, you will also know how to keep yourself wealthy as well, something that those which are just lucky are unable to do.

However there is a great deal of newbies out there that think of the early adopters as just being at the right time and the right place, and mistakenly believe they would have achieved the same if they were on their shoes, but I sincerely doubt this is the case and instead I believe they would be the ones complaining about how they had a lot of bitcoin and then they sold it all for a low price.

Yes, and when skillful people got the chance or luck they will most likely be ready for that, so it would be better to have the skill when the luck came rather than just waiting for luck and when it came we are not ready. Yeah, and actually not all early adopter were able to hodl and get the much profit, few of them also sell the bitcoin before the price surge.
454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dangers of trading on: October 10, 2023, 01:24:51 PM
I don't think danger is the correct term, Risk is more suitable, danger is by nature, but risk is only for people who are not prepared. No one will be in any danger if they were prepared for trading, they know about the risk, they know about signal, the nature of the market, and how to manage their money.

Trading can be a wonderful venture, but it comes with its share of dangers.
It's about time you guys stopped seeing trading as an adventure.

And yeah I totally agree with this, to say that trading is an adventure seems like OP is underestimating trading, no one should do that, trading is full with analytic, it's not entertainment like gambling, and definitely not adventurouse, everything must be carefully calculated in trading.

I used to be like this too at my first time learning about crypto. I really thought that those app was where I store my Coin. I used to join multiple altcoins (erc-20) bounty campaign when the ICO boom happened, and I store all of my token in an app called IMToken, one day I buy a new phone and poof I lost all my tokens because I didn't save my private key/seed phrase.

What did you think would happen once you changed phones?

Nothing, obviously, I forgot the details, but it was like only my 3rd month learning about crypto, so yeah, I was pretty stupid back then.

OP's addressing a very common misconception that often is done by Newbie, I used to be like this too at my first time learning about crypto. I really thought that those app was where I store my Coin. But you could still use your IMToken wallet on your old phone, right? You wouldn't automatically lose all your tokens just because you bought a new phone, even if you didn't save your private key or seed phrase.  Just fire up that old phone, and you're back in business. unless, of course, your old phone is lost or destroyed and you can no longer use it.

Yeah, I did a hard reset on the phone, because my mom want to use that, so I all the app is gone on the old phone.

Seems like I need to clarify that this event happened like 3-4 years ago, and it's like my 3rd month learning about crypto.

The part when you say that salary from teaching will not be enough for everyday life is a bit sad actually, I thought it's only happening in my country, yet I am wrong.

I think the first thing you should consider is your current responsibility, do other people like your parent/brother/other family rely on you to make money?

If yes then the first option would be ideal, because if you teach professionally, at least you will get stable income immediately, and as you said you will still got spare time to get side income either from Crypto trading, or you can make video content on social media, or you could join some courses to learn new skills that will get you better salary.

The 2nd option would be ideal if you don't have any responsibility, you just life for yourself. Because starting business is not easy, there is no guarantee when you will actually earn money, you will need to struggle.

458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I recently convinced my employer to start paying me in BTC, it has been great on: October 08, 2023, 10:03:57 PM
Bitcoin is always my first choice to receive payment from my freelancing work, while most of the person or agencies what I work with could pay in few of them aren't and they use paypal. Compared to PayPal, the time from which they pay up to I received it in my local currency, Bitcoin is a lot faster since the transfer doesn't wait for working hours, it's 24/7, and the fee is much cheaper. More of that compared to a couple years ago, more people and agencies can pay in Bitcoin now.

Moreover Bitcoin is not a religion, we don't need a missionaries for it. People will come to this forum by their own will when they finally learn about Bitcoin.

460  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice to friend for financial improvement. on: October 08, 2023, 03:11:48 PM
That could be a doubled-edge sword both for you and your friend if your friend is not educated enough about Bitcoin and the nature of the market and then on the next few weeks or months, the market was going bad and the value of your friend portfolio is decreasing, he probably will blame you for that. I believe you have good intention, and I do agree instead of spending $800 on newest iPhone I would rather spare $200 for Bitcoin and the rest $600 I could use to buy used previous generation iPhone or just mid-end Android Phone. But if I were you, I would introduce your friend to Bitcoin in small step, rather than just make him spend $200 immediately.
