You Folks made a very nice looking, organized, and informative front page.

edit; guess that is called an OP? not sure, but I like it anyway.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [VERGE][XVG] VERGE [POW][Scrypt][privacy focused - full TOR/i2P resources] on: February 24, 2016, 02:48:54 AM
Could someone please build a comparative table for Verge and it's major competitors or at least the mains differences. What makes it special

There is a list here of Anon coins:

https://minkiz.co/coin/anon

As for comparison, it's nothing I know of compares the functions etc.

What is I2P?

I2P is an anonymous overlay network - a network within a network. It is intended to protect communication from dragnet surveillance and monitoring by third parties such as ISPs.
I2P is used by many people who care about their privacy: activists, oppressed people, journalists and whistle blowers, as well as the average person.
No network can be "perfectly anonymous". The continued goal of I2P is to make attacks more and more difficult to mount. Its anonymity will get stronger as the size of the network increases and with ongoing academic review.

How does it work?

To anonymize the messages sent, each client application has their I2P "router" build a few inbound and outbound "tunnels" - a sequence of peers that pass messages in one direction (to and from the client, respectively). In turn, when a client wants to send a message to another client, the client passes that message out one of their outbound tunnels targeting one of the other client's inbound tunnels, eventually reaching the destination. Every participant in the network chooses the length of these tunnels, and in doing so, makes a tradeoff between anonymity, latency, and throughput according to their own needs. The result is that the number of peers relaying each end to end message is the absolute minimum necessary to meet both the sender's and the receiver's threat model.

The first time a client wants to contact another client, they make a query against the fully distributed "network database" - a custom structured  distributed hash table (DHT) based off the Kademlia algorithm. This is done to find the other client's inbound tunnels efficiently, but subsequent messages between them usually includes that data so no further network database lookups are required.

https://geti2p.net/en/about/intro

i2P by far offers the most privacy. i2P works like "another internet" and each user contributes to the network, like file sharing, but they do not know the entire content to which they share - kinda like a torrent type of sharing.

This is true anonymity - not compromised, by mixers.

Verge has a heap of resources and a very active Dev, who has worked his butt off.

Thanks for the explanation!

No problems. It has been explained before, but I thought I would post this, as no one answered the question.

We should probably be more concerned about questions like this, rather than talk about Poloniex adding XVG.

XVG has been on the first page of Bittrex since name change, but I am pretty sure that most people don't know why it is a better alternative to the "so called anonymous" other coins. The majority of people still believe we don't need anon coins, because of Bitcoin mixers.

Your data is not your data anymore, it is your ISP's, Governments, Googles and anyone else who has enough money or power.

Verge offers no boundaries - we are on the Verge!

I am convinced, I will setup i2p soon

My basic thoughts too.

I do not yet fully comprehend all of the I2P and anonymity stuff at this time, but I absolutely understand the need for it.

Started with DOGED a while back to help give me the incentive to look into it further and to be involved somehow. It also looked as if the dev was working his butt off to make one of the best currencies out there.

Focusing on VERGE's unique abilities and not worrying about Poloniex seems like a good idea to me.

Finally XVG is now online on Poloniex
https://www.poloniex.com/exchange#btc_xvg
.
.
.
.
Oh wait someone told me that was rumor... WTF?

Just joking... we'll see xvg on polo very soon  Smiley

Is there new info?

I'm sure as soon as DEV gets concrete information from Poloniex, then he will let us know. Until then we can only wait and hope that our volume remains relatively consistent.

Funny. LOL
I thought for a moment it was listed.

I did just send some BTC that way though, to use in case that does happen.

Yeah...while your job is watching over other people's money they are tying to make, while others are trying to steal it, while trying to follow regulations, while you can't keep everyone happy no matter what....too much pressure for me.
I would pick a small cabin in the woods over a dangling mansion.
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: February 19, 2016, 04:19:30 AM
Very few coins revivals prove successful.  I do like the idea of country focused coins. Good luck with this one!

AUR is one of my favorite coins.
I look at it as a sleeping giant, with the dedicated work we see as the determining factor that can make it's success happen.
I don't think luck is needed! LOL  Smiley

Hi,
Thank you for rebranding the coin.
Would like to know whether we can still withdraw coins dogecoindark from cryptsy to other exchanges ?
Thank you.

What is dogecoindark?

If the question is serious:
It was a very friendly but anonymous capable coin with an extremely active dev that has been rebranded to Verge.
Dogecoindark stuff should still work I believe.

Now Verge/XVG, definitely a coin to watch and look into.

If the question is not serious:
Yes, the name Dogecoindark is the past.

I just realized that you were kidding, but am leaving this here anyway in case somebody does happen upon it and wonders what that other name was.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [VERGE][XVG] VERGE [POW][Scrypt][privacy focused - full TOR/i2P resources] on: February 17, 2016, 05:51:18 PM
I'm jumping late in here but I've been talking to the dev and want to sum of what I told him:

We charge for swaps and renames for 2 reasons...

1) its very time intensive to do these renames/swaps.  For better or worse, that is how the system is designed.  Its purposefully difficult to change anything in the system that messes with audit ability.
2) for a while we had people "rescuing" old coins and "rebranding" them for nefarious purpose.  The fee was implemented to slow that down.

We implemented a policy that any renames/swaps would incur a fee. I just had to charge the LIMX folks for the same thing today, and thats after they paid for a spotlight to get listed.

For me to waive anything would be unfair to the other coins that we have forced to do this.  The best i can do is reduce the fee to 1.5 ...  If you choose not to go that route, I'll be happy to close the market and let people withdraw and we will re-evaluate the re-listing of XVG after we close down DOGED.

thanks
richie@bittrex

I'm sure Poloniex would make the right decision here. Is Bittrex seriously making a fairness argument when DOGED takes in so much in fees? Bittrex, ever heard of "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"? Bittrex just lost a customer if they don't waive this fee. Spend those funds on hosting DogedDev!

I kind of thought the same thing.  How dare they do that. Especially since the volume is high now.  Doged (Verge) is really starting to take off, and they are making a ton in fee's.   That was until I did the math.

   Lets use the latest 20 BTC volume a day.  20 * .0025 = .05 BTC * 410 USD = $20.5 a day.  And that's with the latest volume.

Would you take on all of the risks and headaches running an exchange for $20 a day?

The reason behind their charge to make a change is to weed out the groups out there that are looking to make quick money on PnD scams -- the implementation of the fee deters scammers and shitcoin makers from  posting their false coins on this exchange. I'd rather them charge us and know that there are hopefully less Scamcoins on trex.
DOGED has obviously been weeded already and blossomed into a fully-grown mature female sativa. Otherwise they would have kept the introduction fee in place when DOGED was a seedling. Since the reason for the fee is risk, and since they know it's not a scamcoin their risk is zero. Likewise the fee should be zero.

I am actually O.K. with a reasonable fee.
The requested change came from our end, initiating more work for the exchange.
We need the exchanges to be able to run profitably for the benefit of everybody here also, since we need them like they need us.
You guys made the donation happen quickly (before I even found out about it) which shows some awesome support.
Looking forward to good things happening with Verge.
Since there was a fee though, hopefully Bittrex can expedite the name change.
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [VERGE][XVG] VERGE [POW][Scrypt][privacy focused - full TOR/i2P resources] on: February 17, 2016, 05:35:04 PM

Verge has now been added the CoinWallet.co online wallet service.

https://www.coinwallet.co

Running since 2013.

As always use online wallets with caution and store the majority of your coins in cold storage or a secure / encrypted wallet on your computer.

Coinwallet.co serves as an easy to use and accessible wallet that you can access with just an internet connection. Handy to aggregate your mining income or have a small amount of coins accessible when you don't have access to your main wallet.

Fantastic news!

Thank you so much for the update !  Shocked Shocked Cool

It's good to see the name "Verge" being used.
Are they maybe the first to use "Verge/XVG" in their labeling of the coin?
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: February 15, 2016, 05:56:50 PM
Hey Adamastor,
Wanted to let you know that I think the pics are great!
Looks like a lot of work, but fun too, making those with some friends.
Your enthusiasm is appreciated.
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: February 05, 2016, 06:40:41 PM
There is alteady a gap between ISX and ''rest-of-the-world'' AUR trading. I personnaly enjoy to see a market without BTC as intermediary.

Give it some time. I still think arbitrage will do its magic at some point.

Yes I do indeed think it will - but still, how long before another altcoin exchange goes down ?  Option are vanishing pretty fast I'd say.

We're currently on only one exchange, bittrex, right?

There are two others that I know of:
BTER and Cryptopia.
I have used Cryptopia, but the volume seems fairly low.

It may mean more to Poloniex if you stated why YOU would like to see the coin listed.
Maybe something like this is the most privacy-centric currency out there (which seems more important as time goes by) with an extremely active dev, that you want more places to exchange, etc.....
A good solid reason why you would use their exchange.
I have made coin requests to exchanges before and found that they like to see activity in the forums, tweets, Facebook, and whatnot too.
Overall interest is probably one of the best methods to make this happen, such as your post looking into how to make it happen.  Smiley

VergeDev, Congrats to you and your gal on the arrival of the little one.  Smiley

Wish I knew more, but it should be as simple as downloading and installing the wallet, locating and editing the conf file if necessary, and restarting the wallet.
Maybe a typo somewhere? Not a Mac guy, so I wish you luck.
Good idea to get your coins off of an exchange if you are not trading.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DOGED][POD] DogeCoinDark [POW][Scrypt][privacy-full TOR/i2P resources] on: January 23, 2016, 05:56:49 PM
Dear Dev,
this weekend I am going to try sort out the Mac wallet. What is the latest download please (just to double check) and what must I put in the config file? Gas it changed?
I am looking forward to putting DOGED on my computer as opposed to exchanges.
I lost 12 BTC on Cryptsy but luckily managed to get my DOGED out just in the nick of time. Actually DOGED was my main priority to get out as it is the only one that has the potential to buy me a new house Smiley

Thanks,
Gravitate

probably just need some nodes in the DogeCoinDark.conf file:

addnode=108.61.10.90
addnode=104.131.121.96
addnode=128.199.130.227
addnode=104.236.47.63
addnode=178.62.72.112

OK I opened textedit.. I put the config files then it asks what file format to save it as... how do I save it as a .conf?
it needs to be called DogeCoinDark.conf, and it goes in the same directory as where your wallet.dat file is kept

Sure but how to make it a .conf.. Can you send me the file? to cheesebell@hotmail.com please? or drop box?

You should be able to simply rename the file.
Example: I edit in wordpad so it's a "txt" file, I right click and select "rename", swipe the "txt" and retype "conf". (edit: and hit "enter")

Yeah, I believe so.
That is why Doge has XDG and Bitcoin has XBT for example.
Thinking of the future.
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DOGED][POD] DogeCoinDark [POW][Scrypt][privacy-full TOR/i2P resources] on: January 21, 2016, 03:14:55 AM
You are most likely correct in regard to pronunciation, but I do not believe that any of the x** are actually concerned with that aspect.
IMHO, XVG looks more like the name VERGE than the other options so far, so most likely could represent it the best.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DOGED][POD] DogeCoinDark [POW][Scrypt][privacy-full TOR/i2P resources] on: January 20, 2016, 03:57:49 AM
Since we are still talking names, I wanted to throw my opinion out there:
"Clear" does sound good, but basically means the opposite to me, totally transparent, and unhidden.
If I could, I would go back and change my vote from Cogs to Verge.
I like the name, and believe it will grow on us.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DOGED][POD] DogeCoinDark [POW][Scrypt][privacy-full TOR/i2P resources] on: January 15, 2016, 06:52:20 AM
I like plain old "CAPITAL"

but if you like something more modern and catchy

CAPITALX

I take it no one wants my brilliant suggestion Wink

CAPITAL - (Money, First, etc)

I actually really do like it, along with others that I have seen here.

Looks like there are some good ideas floating around and glad to see that there is no rush to change too quickly.

One thought I had regarding this is that the Dev has put a lot into this coin, and most certainly is going to incur some expense if the name changes.

Maybe a donation address to contribute to, to show some support when/if that happens would be good to see?

edit: Forgot there was a development address on first page. Hazards of putting in too many hours at work.

279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: January 13, 2016, 09:02:44 PM
It sounds like you have done a lot.

You letter sounds very informative and reads in a very friendly and non-intimidating manner.

Feel free to PM me if you would like it reviewed and to have some of the punctuation fixed prior to sending.
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DOGED][POD] DogeCoinDark [POW][Scrypt][privacy-full TOR/i2P resources] on: January 11, 2016, 02:35:54 AM
Discussion and taking time to think this out seems like a good idea.
I have had the name "COGS" kind of grow on me.
My first thought was that it sounded too simple, but then realized that simplicity could be a good thing.
It is easy to pronounce, one syllable I believe (not sure how to count the "s"), and basically a gear mechanism that makes something happen, so it shows action/activity.
It also has the "cog" in there, maybe a carryover of it's [in(cog)nito] roots.
The coin logo could have the reeding made larger to make it into a cog, so the name could also be symbolized by it's logo.
The DogeCoinDark name got my attention a while back, but since it isn't exactly a copy, with "dark" attributes it may not be a perfect fit.
Probably time for the coin to stand on it's own too.
