I just hope we are able to establish a perm presence in space before Kessler syndrome hits us.  Then at least we have a chance to clean up.

I truly doubt it with companies like SpaceX. I just have a bad feeling about anything Elon Musk touches that guy is a snake oil salesman. He pushes hopium on the masses who believe such ridiculous things as a a viable hyperloop where you have people in a vacuum tube where if it failed they would all be shredded instantly into meat paste, or an economic way to put people in rockets and send them around the world somehow cheaper than airfare. Or that somehow a traffic system based on car elevators can match or surpass the throughput of ramps.

He takes ideas that are decades/centuries old. Adds the word hyper to them, then makes extroardinary claims and alsmost no-one calls him out. Like the reusable rocket that had already been done many years ago, he does his own demo and everyone acted as if it's a world first.

Although I really like the name of his space company. SpaceX.  Space Sex. SpaceXchange. Space Sex Exchange. SpaceSpec(tacular)Sexchange.
262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Glad to be part of BTC Talk I hope I am not late to the party on: May 28, 2020, 03:17:32 AM
It's never too late. Some members have only been on this forum for 1 or 2 years and are at the very top with over 1k merits, and tons of quality posts.

Also bitcoin is not about making money, it's more about having a money that you can trust. The government can't print it or freeze it or steal it from you.

And please don't day trade if you don't have experience. Something like 95% of people lose money. Hodling is much less risky but you still have to come to terms that bitcoin could lose a lot of value. 10k today maybe 2k in 5 months and 20k in a year. If you put 10k today and watch it turn to 2k my guess is you won't be very happy, then maybe you get sick and you sell out, and 2 years from now it goes to 20k.

Just don't view this as a get rich quick scheme but as the technology that will free us all from this corrupt disgusting old system of money that is owned by the already rich and well place people in our disgustingly unfair society.

Edit: mispelling too as to
263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How signing and verifying messages on bitcoin on: May 28, 2020, 03:03:48 AM
So this is a very interesting aspect to me since craig has once again been caught lying.

But I dont really grasp how signing that message works. As in when i verify that message i needed the public address the signature and the messege...  but how does one decrypt it to know the message?

Well, the same way any private/public keypair can be used to verify that a message was generated by someone.

I think craig has taken already signed messages in the past to try and prove stuff, so you see how it can happen the other way too, with no validity.

Once I generate a message that checks out, someone can copy it. So I guess it's a good idea to be unambiguous. Like, the time is this, and if someone else uses this message after the time of for the purposes of fraud, know that it is not me sort of thing.
264  Other / Off-topic / Re: where are you spending your time now? on: May 28, 2020, 02:59:06 AM
Almost no change for me.

I kept working (supermarket).
I kept going to my favorite spot in the woods, that due to a complicated jurisdiction, Federal, state and local combined, never actually closed down.
265  Other / Off-topic / Manned SpaceX Mission, I give it 50% ending in fatalities on: May 27, 2020, 11:01:18 PM
I just don't trust that SpaceX is very competent.

Tune in and let's all watch.... hopefully not the fireworks.

The launch name is SpaceX Crew Demo-2  and it got scrubbed. It's going to happen on May 30, 2020 19:22 UTC.

It's the first crewed mission. I remember a while ago when the Dragon launcher had substancial technical issues. The only reason I'd participate in a mission like that is if I was looking for the quick way out (suicide).

266  Other / Politics & Society / The Richest Billionaires in the US just got richer during the Covid-19 pandemic on: May 27, 2020, 05:30:55 AM
The system is broken. The government just gave a ton of money to the richest people there are and just gave us scraps so we won't complain about it.

It's obscene.

What George Carlin said is proven true once more. This country has owners. They own all the land and resources that's worth anything and we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else.

We've been sold out. At least with bitcoin the government doesn't get to print more of it and assign it to themselves.

Taylor Momsen from The Pretty Reckless has an amazing voice

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWvrxlyG5F8

But I don't really have a favorite at the moment

Edit:

Wait a minute no, it's actually Tom Lehrer

Here's a full performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHPmRJIoc2k
Here's some songs by him:

(Wernher von Braun) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJ9HrZq7Ro
(I wanna go back to Dixie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7CJovhhVq8
(Who's next) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRLON3ddZIw

Tim Minchin is pretty close to.
He's a notable atheist and mocks religion a lot so if you're not into that, you won't like him as much as I do, but he is a musical genius

Awesome live cover of Hallelujah (Must watch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSFCDhLhuB8

268  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is accelerationism ever a valid argument? on: May 25, 2020, 12:40:27 AM
I'd ask myself: what am I doing in a car with this man that I know to be a reckless driver?
Given a choice I wouldn't go with him, but if they forced me to do it, I'd try to save him from crashing because who knows what will happen. Maybe he gets stuck and the car catches fire and I'll have to watch him burn... You never know what consequences your actions will bring so it's best to go with your gut and ethics. This way whatever happens you'll be able to justify your actions.

Well, it's a small bridge after a turn in a neighborhood, so the car will be going like 20 mph. There will be damage to the car, and the bad driver will deservedly lose driving priviledges but the only damage will be to property. Should have been clearer in the OP.

I see this action, letting the accident happen, as the most ethical one.

I'll take lucky number 52!

You've been here for only 2 years and you have 2000 merit!
Congratulations, you should be proud!

270  Other / Politics & Society / Is accelerationism ever a valid argument? on: May 24, 2020, 04:04:40 AM
I'll give you an example:

You're in the car with an old man. He shouldn't have driving priviledges because he is a terrible driver. He has been in ridiculous accidents before, endangering others but he still has his licence.

You're driving slowly over a small bridge, when he fumbles looking for his sunglasses. He will obviously crash the car on the side of the bridge, at small speed and very small potential damages, but this will result in him losing his licence.

You are in the front passenger seat, you have plenty of time to react. You have 2 options.

1. Grab the wheel, prevent the small accident:

Consequences: Dangerous old man, with driving priviledges keeps driving.

2. Let it happen.

Consequences, the old man loses his driving priviledge, potentially saving lives in the process. There is a car accident that will cost some amount of money, that money is covered by insurance.

Personally I'd go with 2 every time.

Thoughts?

271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would anyone want to use a paper wallet with raw private key? on: May 24, 2020, 03:43:24 AM
I had some litecoin in essentially a raw paper wallet for over 5 years.... When I needed them I got them back...

Unlike what I was holding in 2 exchanges which both went down.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend it. I'd feel a lot better if I had a mnemonic seed and memorized that.

That being said, human memory is really weird. Today I forgot my special number that gives me access to change the inventory at the grocery store I work for. A 3 letter user id....(I never forgot the password)  And I remember a 25 alphanumeric key from over 10 years ago flawlessly.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is our killer app? on: May 17, 2020, 03:14:18 PM
Everyone aks me what I really want, as if it's all out there already.

A stock market that works on bitcoin. And let me just say, that we had one. The technical implementation wad done like 5 years ago, I think it got shut down due to legal concerns.

I want a site like what bitbet.us used to be:

Services and interoperable protocols will continue to be built on top, but they'll always be sideshows to Bitcoin's native value proposition. As far as adoption goes, Bitcoin sells itself -- no marketing or "killer app" needed. It's the hardest form of money ever known. That's why people and institutions are buying it.

Money has to be accepted widely to be useful. People don't want to have keys to bitcoin just so that they can control that small aspect of the network. I really like your answer but I think that adoption is important. I think of it in terms of the computer. If there was no good software, would almost everyone on the planet have a computer at home, a computer at work and a computer in their pocket? The killer app for personal computers wasn't the ability to solve math problems really quickly or to store really big numbers into memory.

Stocks denominated in bitcoin bought and sold with no restrictions can be done easily. Sites where you bet on outcomes (like the one linked on the OP) were also done.
I wish that the government would either step aside, or just create reasonable regulations instead of tying our hands up and not letting us do what we want to do. I'd protest for my position, I'd vote for it. I don't understand why we can't have nice things. I'm not against taxes or regulation.

274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where is our killer app? on: May 16, 2020, 02:08:17 AM
The title says it all. Will it be an awesome game where people can earn bitcoin by competing? Will it be the lightning network allowing transactions to happen painlessly and without restrictions? A Library of content?

So much work is being done, but it still feels like we don't even have bitcoin wallets with nice GUIs and I know I'm not helping, it's not like I'm creating anything either. Is there something I'm missing?

This is a huge space and everyone is innovating, perhaps bitcoin is doomed to end up as digital gold, a safe place to hold and transact value and all the fun/frivolous things happening with alts. I hate all the restrictions placed on online gambling and all of that nonsense.

I wish I could play a competitive battle royale game where everyone bets some sats and everytime you kill someone you get a slice and the winner takes a big pot. I wanna bet on certain outcomes like what bitbet.us used to be. I wish I could buy stocks in a bitcoin stock exchange.

I mean, I have a lot of patience with bitcoin and big things are happening, with this past halving, our annual inflation rate is below the USD FED inflation target rate and I like that. I just can't wait for what's next to come.

Edit: bitbet.us used to be like this https://web.archive.org/web/20130805070106/http://bitbet.us/
275  Other / Politics & Society / Re: No Mandatory Fear Masking at Sam's! on: May 13, 2020, 12:36:23 PM
Yeah, that's the thing, at my local Sam's club they're all wearing masks.

I work at a grocery store and masks are mandatory when we're dealing with customers in the sales floor or even just doing production in adjacent counters. But in the backroom we can take 'em off.

I really hate having to wear a mask. I personally don't think that it will really make a difference outside of a hospital, but if there are is credible research that they can slow down covid then the government has a responsibility to make people wear them.
276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Last block before the halving (#629999) had a special message on: May 12, 2020, 06:08:32 AM
We've all been making the same bet since day one. It's monopoly money versus scarce money. We can pretend that's not the case, that we think the dollar has a future, but I think, the people that have been there the longest mostly agree that money shouldn't be manipulated by those in power and that given enough time the dollar will be less valuable then toilet paper.

For a moment there in 2020, for a lot of people we could argue that toilet paper was more valuable then dollars. As dollars could no longer be exchanged for toilet paper.

That was a fantastic way to celebrate this momentous occassion.
277  Other / Politics & Society / Re: LOL!!! Greek Brothels To Reopen But Hookers And Clients Required To Wear Masks on: May 11, 2020, 10:19:44 AM
Deaths per 1 Million Population:
Greece: 14
Italy:     505
Spain:    569
USA:      244

Basically Greece has the situation under control. It's probably because the hospitals there are actual hospitals rather than fleecing tents and because the people there, despite not having been through this situation before understand the risks of what might happen.

By the way, I grew up in Greece and I never visited a brothel, even when I was invited to go to one with some friends. It's not because I don't wanna have a bunch of sex and it's not because I think prostitution is immoral. It's because I think it's lame to have to pay for sex, to a certain degree.
Although, true story, Greeks if not number 1 in sexual activity are somewhere in that ballpark.

I wonder if the police will get many volunteers to work as observers.

That wouldn't fly in Greece, it's not a police matter.

Greece, unlike many other places in this world, is not a police state. Living there, you're not constantly watched over by the police, society there expects everyone to be responsible, and also treats people like adults.

Edit: Minor additions.

Edit2: Also the whole thing is kinda reasonable, you don't spread coronavirus from having sex while wearing a condom, but from cough and spit. If someone's wearing a mask, spit isn't getting involved. So technically it should be about as safe as a haircut if everyone follows the rules also the only article I found in Greek media states that brothels will reopen not that they already have, and the news is only coming from one small part of the country in one small newspaper.

278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am feeling Regret on: May 11, 2020, 10:07:04 AM
Oh man, I think you should move all your funds to hardware wallet, since it's very safe. 44 Bitcoins worth $375.991,88 is very large amount, things again if you want put it all to online wallets. The cost is only $161,36 for Trezor T.

Everything can happen and it's unpredictable. Just holding and see the price in the future.

thank you for suggestion but i holding my BTC on online wallet since last 2 years and nothing happen, i think i trust very much on blockchain and btw still waiting for boom to 13k$ or 15k$ for cashout my funds.

Just because nothing has happened yet it doesn't mean your money is safe. If I had that much bitcoin, I'd be holding some of it in a paper wallet, most of it in a hardware wallet and some of it in a normal bitcoin wallet.

You can clearly afford to do all of that if you have that much bitcoin.

People trusted Mt.Gox with their funds before and Cryptsy. Even big companies in this space tend to dissappear without a trace.

As Andreas Antonopoulos always sais. Not your keys, not your bitcoin.

279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ₿ Bitcoin Halving Attracts World Attention on: May 11, 2020, 02:04:28 AM
This halving is more important than usual (and I've posted this before) because we're finally getting inflation lower then the FEDs' target.

At this point so much of bitcoin will have already been distributed that we'll be neck in neck or potentially beating the dollar when it comes to inflation. Then again I don't know how relevant that is when it comes to bitcoin's scarcity. If more people wanted to get into bitcoin the price would definitely skyrocket, but so far we don't really have the capacity to handle more people.

Either way, it's a historic halving and I can't wait. I'll be at work at the time.
